The best way to visit Star Island is to sign up for one of our many programs (or “ conferences “) open to all.
For day visitors, Star Island offers a free launch boat service on weekend for boaters to get to the island from Gosport Harbor. Visitors are welcome to take a self-guided tour, grab a bite to eat at the Oceanic Snack Bar or the Gosport Grill or use designated facilities. Historical and environmental tours are also offered.
Ferry services to Star Island are located in Portsmouth through the Isles of Shoals Steamship Company and the Uncle Oscar in Rye. Reservations are suggested.
There are opportunities for individuals and families to spend the night and experience all Star has to offer outside of conferences with our Personal Retreat Program. Rooms are basic with shared bathrooms in the hotel and more private accommodations in the ancillary motel.
The island is open from June through September.

Day trip to Lymington
Very enjoyable day out on "The Spirit of Portsmouth" ferry from Gosport to Lymington in the New Forest. A two hour trip to Lymington, followed by 4 hours ashore and then 2 hours back to Gosport. Very well organised, including a bus to transport passengers to the top of the High Street in Lymington and back. We preferred to walk into town but got the bus back as we had too many shopping bags! Excellent Saturday market but next time, wouldn't go on a Bank Holiday week-end as extremely busy. There's a well stocked bar on the ferry with a very cheery barman. A really good day out and will definitely book again and perhaps do other days out next summer. Good value for money too at £19.25 per adult.
i had a cruise on the ferry boat , we went on the 2 river cruise.. the boat was clean and comfortable . not a lot in the way of beer and was disappointed that drinks came in plastic cups and tea in paper ones..the food came in containers and not on plates and with wooden cutlery .. i think the food was very poor and the rule you cant take your own not good.. i would suggest you opt for a sandwich and this would be easier to eat and better value.
Stumbled upon this by chance when I got off the train at Portsmouth Harbour. Only £3.40 for an adult return. Ferry is very quick and very clean. Overall a very positive experience.
We decided to park the car in Gosport and use the ferry service to nip across to Gunwharf Quays. The ferry was very quick, clean, efficient and very reasonably priced. The staff were happy and helpful. Made the trip much nicer than being stuck in traffic jams in the city and would chose this option on our next visit.
Always run on time very clean and well presented boats a credit and a good service to Portsmouth. The service gives easy access to Gunwharf and Portsmouth also on the Gosport side access to the submarine museum and other attractions.
We happened to be in Gosport over the America's Cup weekend and found the ferry trip to Portsmouth to be quick, efficient and the guys working it were great getting everyone safely from one side to the other.
