By Althea Legaspi

Ringo Starr has decided to cancel the handful of remaining shows on his 2022 tour because he has tested positive for Covid-19 again.

“I’m sure you’ll be as surprised as I was I tested positive again for Covid the rest of the tour is off I send you peace and love Ringo,” the drummer wrote on Twitter (followed by a requisite parade of emojis).

The five canceled shows were part of a short run that Starr and his All-Starr Band were supposed to kick off tonight, Oct. 14, in San Jose, California. He was then set to play Paso Robles, California and Los Angeles, before two concerts in Mexico City.

Starr was initially forced to cancel a handful of shows, and put the remainder of their tour on hold, earlier this month after Starr came down with Covid-19.

On Saturday, Oct. 1, Starr canceled his show at Four Winds Casino Resort in New Buffalo, MI, mere hours before he and his band were set to take the stage. At the time, the venue posted that Starr did not have Covid. A rep for the venue tells Rolling Stone that statement was provided by Starr’s management. Ringo Starr has tested positive for COVID-19 again. The musician revealed his diagnosis late on Thursday (Oct. 13), and announced that he’s canceling the remainder of his tour.

The second leg of the nine-time Grammy winner’s All Starr Band tour kicked off September in Bridgeport, Conn. The tour dates were initially planned for 2020, but when the global coronavirus pandemic hit, the former Beatle’s tour — like many musicians’ around the world — was postponed.

Since touring has resumed, various musicians have had to cancel or postpone shows as they and/or their touring crew contracted COVID-19 while on the road. Drake, The Rolling Stones, Alan Jackson, and Justin Bieber are among those who have delayed shows after testing positive for COVID-19.

Sorry, Los Angeles. Looks like Ringo Starr and his All Starr Band won’t be coming to the Greek Theatre on Sunday, after all.

The former Beatles drummer, 82, announced Thursday that he tested positive for COVID-19 again and will cancel the rest of his tour, which also included upcoming shows at the San Jose Civic on Friday and the Vina Robles Amphitheatre in Paso Robles on Saturday.

“I’m sure you’ll be as surprised as I was I tested positive for Covid,” he tweeted Thursday afternoon . “the rest off the tour is off I send you peace and love Ringo.”

The tour cancellation comes less than two weeks after he contracted the illness on Oct. 3 , forcing him and his All Starr Band to postpone their show at the Canada Life Centre. The show was eventually canceled while Starr recovered.

Ringo Starr has pushed back his upcoming summer tour with the All Starr Band to September after two of the band’s members contracted COVID-19.

June 13, 2022

The Grammy winner resumed his tour on Monday, tweeting that he is “on the road again.”

“I am negative peace and love everybody thanks for waiting,” he wrote, while posing with his negative COVID-19 test. On Tuesday, he performed in Seattle and played Portland on Wednesday.

In addition to the California shows, Starr and his band were set for a pair of shows at Mexico City’s Auditorio Nacional next Monday and Tuesday.

The tour, which was initially planned for 2020 but postponed due to the pandemic, kicked off in May 2022. However, the tour has experienced less than smooth sailing. In June, Starr announced that he would push back the summer tour after two All Starr Band members, keyboardist Edgar Winter and guitarist Steve Lukather, tested positive for COVID.

“We are so sorry to let the fans down. It’s been wonderful to be back out on the road and we have been having such a great time playing for you all,” Starr said in a statement shared on his website . “But as we all know, Covid is still here and despite being careful these things happen.”

Ringo Starr Cancels Tour After Second Covid Diagnosis: 'I'm Sure You'll Be as Surprised as I Was'

The former Beatles drummer had previously been diagnosed with COVID in early October

Ringo Starr has a rebound COVID-19 infection, just three days after recovering from his first round with the virus.

The former Beatles drummer , 82, announced through Twitter on Thursday that he is canceling the final shows on his North American tour.

"I'm sure you'll be surprised as I was. I tested positive again for Covid," wrote the rock icon in his announcement.

Starr had been forced to cancel shows in Winnipeg, Saskatoon, Lethbridge, Abbotsford, Penticton, Canada and the Mystic Lake Casino in Minnesota, after first testing positive for COVID.

A spokesperson said in a statement on Oct. 3: "It has been confirmed today that Ringo has Covid and the tour will be on hold while Ringo recuperates. Ringo hopes to resume as soon as possible and is recovering at home. As always, he and the All Starrs send peace and love to their fans and hope to see them back out on the road soon."

The spokesperson added to PEOPLE that Starr was "starting to feel better already."

After the break, Starr shared on Monday that he had recovered from the virus.

He added an Instagram post alongside a picture of him smiling while flashing a peace sign and wearing a necklace that declared him negative for COVID: "I will see you in Seattle on Tuesday the 11th Portland Wednesday I am negative peace and love everybody thanks for waiting."

The rock icon, who released his third EP, titled EP3 in September, has also shared that he is vaccinated against the virus. He told USA Today in March 2021: "I've got both jabs and I'm feeling groovy."

Ringo Starr has canceled seven dates on his current tour with his All Starr Band after testing positive for COVID-19.

On Monday, after the group had already canceled its Saturday and Sunday shows in Michigan and Minnesota, Starr's social media posted: "It has been confirmed today that Ringo has Covid and his current All Starr tour will be on hold while he recuperates."

In addition to those two shows, the 82-year-old, nine-time Grammy Award-winning drummer — a two-time Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee, with The Beatles and as a solo artist — canceled five Canadian concerts from Oct. 4 to 9. "Ringo hopes to resume as soon as possible and is recovering at home," the message continued. "As always, he and the All Starrs send peace and love to their fans and hope to see them back out on the road soon. Check his website for any further updates. Peace and Love, Team Ringo."

The tour's next stop is Seattle on Oct. 11. Earlier this year, the band had postponed 12 dates after band members Edgar Winter and Steve Lukather tested positive for COVID-19.

Ringo Starr cancels tour dates after contracting COVID-19

Starr is "recovering at home" and "hopes to resume as soon as possible"

Ringo Starr in February 2022

Ringo Starr has cancelled several shows he had planned in Canada for this week, with the Beatle putting his tour on hold to recuperate after contracting COVID-19 .

  • READ MORE: Soundtrack Of My Life: Ringo Starr

After shows in New Buffalo, Michigan and Prior Lake, Minnesota were cancelled over the weekend “due to illness”, an official statement from Starr’s team confirmed the musician had tested positive for COVID. As a result, five shows that were scheduled for this week – in Winnipeg, Saskatoon, Lethbridge, Abbotsford and Penticton – have been axed.

“Ringo hopes to resume as soon as possible and is recovering at home,” the statement said. “As always, he and the All Starrs send peace and love to their fans and hope to see them back out on the road soon.”

Starr’s tour is set to restart on October 11 in Seattle, Washington, before continuing along to Portland, San Jose, Paso Robles, Los Angeles and Mexico City. See those dates here .

It’s not the first time Starr’s tour dates have been affected by COVID-19 this year. Back in June, Starr postponed a slew of North American dates with his All-Starr Band after two of its members – keyboardist Edgar Winter and guitarist Steve Lukather – tested positive.

“We are so sorry to let the fans down,” Starr wrote in a message to fans at the time. “It’s been wonderful to be back out on the road and we have been having such a great time playing for you all. But as we all know, [COVID-19] is still here and despite being careful these things happen.”

Starr put out his latest solo album, ‘What’s My Name’, in 2019. He shared two EPs in 2021: ‘Zoom In’ and  ‘Change The World’ . NME  described ‘Zoom In’ as “the sort of upbeat, unrelenting jollity we expect from Ringo” in a three-star review upon its arrival.

Last month, Starr released a new EP titled ‘EP3’ , playing drums and singing on every track. It was recorded at the musician’s home studio, Roccabella West, and made with longtime collaborators Lukather, Linda Perry , Dave Koz, José Antonio Rodriguez and Bruce Sugar.

Speaking about the project, Starr said: “I am in my studio writing and recording every chance I get. “It’s what I have always done and will continue to do, and releasing EPs more frequently allows me to continue to be creative and give each song a little more love.”

Starr, along with late Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins , Stewart Copeland of The Police , Stephen Perkins from Jane’s Addiction , Red Hot Chili Peppers ‘ Chad Smith and more, are set to feature in an upcoming documentary titled  Let There Be Drums!

Set to be released in cinemas on October 28, the film was directed by Justin Kreutzmann – son of Grateful Dead drummer Bill Kreutzmann – and according to Deadline , “examines the essential role drumming plays in great bands and how music passes from generation to generation.” It is set to feature one of Hawkins’ final interviews before he died in March of this year .

As part of the promotion for the release of his upcoming EP Crooked Boy , Starr stopped by Amoeba Records in Hollywood on April 18 with Linda Perry . The four-song collection – "February Sky," "Adeline," "Gonna Need Someone," and "Crooked Boy" – was written and produced by the Songwriters Hall of Fame inductee and in turn, she sent them to Starr for drumming and vocal contribution.

"Linda put the whole thing together," Starr explained when asked how the collaboration came together. "During the pandemic, I just decided to make EPs. I was determined to work with people I hadn't worked with before and Linda was one of them, a great songwriter." Perry in turn acknowledged Starr's influence early in her life. "I was brought up with this incredible music of the Beatles, watching Ringo and him always being my favorite, 'cause I thought he was the most charming and funniest one."

Perry also came up with the image for the album, a photo taken in February 1964 in Miami Beach by photographer Harry Benson. Benson had been traveling with the Beatles on that fateful trip to America and snapped Starr in his swim trunks during the band's trip there for the Ed Sullivan broadcast from the Deauville Hotel.

Starr did let slip during the Amoeba Records appearance that he's in the middle of making another record, "a 10-tracker," but quickly got back to the record at hand. In honor of Record Store Day the Crooked Boy EP will be available in a 2,000-only pressing on black and white marble vinyl.

Crooked Boy will be released digitally on April 26. Black vinyl and CD formats will be available May 31.

The Beatles' Ringo Starr bringing 'All Starr Band' to Mohegan Sun

ringo starr tour cancelled

Get ready to sing and dance around this fall because Ringo Starr & His All Starr Band can be found at the Mohegan Sun Arena come September.

The fall tour kicks off in Omaha, Neb., Sept. 12 before stopping at Mohegan Sun on Sept. 20 at 8 p.m. Tickets go on sale April 26 at 10 a.m.

Starr, also known as Sir Richard Starkey, was the second — and best known — drummer of the Beatles. Starr replaced Pete Best as the Beatles' drummer in 1962, before they'd achieved fame. According to the biography "Ringo Starr: A Life," fans were initially so upset by Best's firing that one gave guitarist George Harrsion a black eye and Beatles manager Brian Epstein had his tires flattened.

Starr found success as a solo artist following the Beatles' 1970 breakup, with a string of top-charting singles that decade including "Photograph" and "You're Sixteen."

Starr formed his All Starr Band in 1989 as a rock supergroup where "everybody on stage is a star in their own right," he said on a 2003 tour. For more than 30 years, some of the biggest pop and rock musicians along with legendary studio musicians have joined the All Starrs.

The band is in its 15th iteration featuring Starr on vocals, drums and piano, while studio drummer Greg Bissonette handles the lion's share of drums; session musician and Toto guitarist Steve Lukather; "Frankenstein" composer Edgar Winter on saxophone, keys and vocals; Hamish Stuart of the Average White Band on bass and guitar; Warren Ham, who has worked with Kansas and Toto on saxophone and percussion and Colin Hay from Men at Work on guitar and vocals.

Music lovers still put those records on as they celebrate Record Store Day: What to know

If you love vinyl, saturday, april 20 is your day, record store day. apparently, many americans do. u.s. music lovers spent $1.4 billion on vinyl in 2023, 10% more than the year before..

ringo starr tour cancelled

Vinyl rules on Saturday. That's because it is Record Store Day .

This marks the 17th annual celebration of independent record stores with a slew of special, exclusive releases – available first in stores and for purchase in person. (Eventually, some of the precious vinyl LPs will be available online; and some may later be released on CD or digitally.)

More than 380 special releases will be available on Saturday, including new releases and reissues from a variety of artists spanning Ernest Tubb to 2 Chainz and Lil Wayne . There's also releases from Elton John, Gorillaz, Kristin Hersh, Parliament, Pearl Jam, Sabrina Carpenter and The Who. To see the complete list go to the Record Store Day website .

Why are vinyl records a big deal on Record Store Day 2024?

There's a reason vinyl lovers are rewarded in the age of streaming music. Sales of vinyl records rose 10% in 2023 to $1.4 billion – the format's 17th consecutive year of growth, according to the Recording Industry Association of America .

And for only the second time since 1987, vinyl outsold CDs in units (43 million vinyl, compared to 37 million in CDs), the RIAA says. Sales of CDs did increase 11% to $537 million. Streaming still accounted 84% of U.S. recorded music revenue, the RIAA says.

Record Store Day 2024: What you need to celebrate superbly

No surprise, the top selling vinyl artist in the U.S. in 2023 was Taylor Swift, who had the top three sellers – "1989 (Taylor's Version)" was No. 1 – and five of the top seven, according to Luminate Data .

Swifties, there's no Record Store Day specials for you like last year, when Swift dropped "folklore: the long pond studio sessions."  But you did just get a extra helping of tunes with her "The Tortured Poets Department: The Anthology," which landed early Friday.

However, some lucky buyers of her new album could also get a special printed note "From the Desk of Taylor Swift," in which the artist says: "Happy Record Store Day!! Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for welcoming The Tortured Poets Department into your vinyl collection and your life."

Here's a quick look at some of the most desired Record Store Day releases.

David Bowie: Record Store Day 2024 release predates 'Ziggy'

A special vinyl RSD release, "Waiting in the Sky (Before the Starman Came to Earth)," is an 11-track recreation of an early version of what would eventually become Bowie's 1972 release "The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars." Songs included here not on that album are the Chuck Berry cover "Round and Round," Jacque Brel's "Amsterdam," and non-LP favorites "Velvet Goldmine" and "Holy Holy."

Dave Grohl joins Anthrax on special RSD release to help Bad Brains singer

Anthrax guitarist Scott Ian and drummer Charlie Benante were joined by Dave Grohl in the Foo Fighters frontman's studios a cover of the Bad Brain's "The Regulator." Grohl plays drums and sings, while Benante plays bass on the track, proceeds of which will go to help Bad Brains' singer H.R., who has undergone treatment for painful headaches. The flip side of the 7-inch single is etched.

Record Store Day ambassadors Paramore have a special single out

A special 12-inch single has the band's tribute to Talking Heads on one side – a cover of the song "Burning Down the House" – and David Byrne's version of Paramore's “Hard Times” on the other (available starting Saturday, only at participating record stores).

Also available: "Re: This Is Why," remixes of the album that earned the band Grammys in February 2024 for best rock album and best alternative music performance. The remix LP, made with the help of Wet Leg, Bartees Strange, Foals, the Linda Lindas and others, is available as a standalone LP or in a 2-LP set including the original album.

Talking Heads: A full live performance

Speaking of David Byrne , Talking Heads fans can seek out "Live at WCOZ 77," which captures the band's entire radio station performance from Nov. 17, 1977. (Some of the songs appeared on "The Name of This Band Is Talking Heads."

Also available: The Tom Tom Club's "Genius of Love 2001 Remixes,' a blue vinyl LP collecting nine remixes of the much-sampled 1981 song from Talking Heads co-founders Chris Frantz and Tina Weymouth.

Olivia Rodrigo and Noah Kahan cover RSD 2024 with dual single

Olivia Rodrigo covers the title track from Noah Kahan 's 2022 album "Stick Season," on one side of a special colored vinyl 7-inch single. On the other, Kahan provides a version of Rodrigo's "Lacy" from her 2023 album "Guts."

Sister Rosetta Tharpe: Live in France: The 1966 Concert in Limoges

This gem is a previously unreleased recording of a live solo performance by “The Godmother of Rock n’ Roll," at the Grand Theatre in Limoges, France on November 11, 1966. It comes on two 180-gram vinyl LPs and has an insert with rare photographs, liner notes and tributes from ZZ Top's Billy Gibbons, Susan Tedeschi and others.

This fab Beatles mini record player is a Record Store Day 2024 special

Beatlemania continues – mark May 8 on your calendar to stream the movie "Let It Be" on Disney+ . In the meantime, you can come together with this Beatles limited edition mini turntable ($179.99) from Crosley Radio , commemorating the Fab Four's performance in 1964 on The Ed Sullivan Show.

The turntable comes with four 3-inch records of songs the band performed then: "I Want To Hold Your Hand," "Til There Was You," "She Loves You," and "I Saw Her Standing There." (Note: the records are also available individually.)

The Turntable has a built-in speaker, but also connects to external speakers via Bluetooth.

Also available: Ringo Starr 's new four-track EP titled "Crooked Boy," in a special black and white colored vinyl edition, and two George Harrison albums, "Wonderwall Music" and "Electronic Sound," available as picture discs. — w

The Rolling Stones have something old, something new for RSD 2024

The Stones are dropping "Live At Racket, NYC," a 180-gram solid white vinyl release of the seven songs the band played at the October 19, 2023 launch event for "Hackney Diamonds." The tracks include the duet with Lady Gaga on “Sweet Sounds of Heaven."

Also available: a special black and white swirled vinyl version of the band's 1964 U.K. debut album, which comes stamped (6,000 are available) with a lithograph with classic photos of the band.

The Weeknd: 'Live at SoFi Stadium'

The Canadian artist's first live album, recorded during two November 2022 concerts in LA and released digitally last year, becomes available on a physical format (3 LPs).

Wilco: 'The Whole Love' expanded for RSD

An 3-LP version of the band's 2011 album fleshed out with live in-studio performances, bonus tracks, alternate mixes, demos and a version of the song "Cruel To Be Kind" with Nick Lowe.

Dwight Yoakam's 'Beginning' boxed up for RSD 2024

The country artist has a collection called "The Beginning And Then Some," compiling his first three albums – available on vinyl and CD – with an extra disc of '80s rarities.

The singer-songwriter's latest, "Fu##in' Up" is a reimaging of some past Young classics with a Crazy Horse lineup that includes Micah Nelson. The Record Store Day limited edition comes on two clear vinyl LPs with a lithograph of the album cover art.

It will be available in stores and through the Neil Young Archives store (though it appears to be sold out already). Regular versions of the album come out April 26.
