CHERUB IN CONCERT: Combining sleek electro-funk, romantic falsettos, and clever lyrical wordplay, Cherub's wry songs about dating and clubbing are the stuff that dance parties are made of. The only thing these guys take seriously is having fun, and that's exactly what they do at their live shows, hyping up the crowd with their infectious energy and swaggering showmanship. Fans couldn't help but bust a move to synth-heavy bangers like "Jazzercise '95" and "XOXO" on the band's 2013 tour, and with another round of shows in 2014 they'll have the opportunity to do it all again. BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT: Tennessee-based Cherub is the brainchild of singer Jordan Kelley and guitarist Jason Huber, formed in 2010 with an eye towards updating the sounds of their funk idols like Prince and Zapp and Roger. The duo's digital debut album Man of the Hour was an underground hit, resulting in shows across the US and paving the way for polished 2012 follow-up "Mom and Dad." As tracks like "Doses and Mimosas" reverberated across the blogosphere, the band saw their reputation as a live act grow with performances at Bonnaroo and SXSW. With the release of the 100 Bottles EP in 2013, Cherub achieved their most infectious collection of songs yet, building excitement among dance-ready fans for their 2014 tour dates.

I love you cherub so much they never fail to disapoint me! The music and venue was great I would die for them I was so happy to meet Jordan after the show.

Amazing as usual!!!

Despite the nasty winter weather, Cherub put on an amazing 2 hour show full of their hits a catchy dance tunes. We ran into them at a local bar after the show and they signed my wife's Cherub jacket. Very cool, down to earth guys.

Nothing wrong with the venue, but cherub sucked. They’re washed up

The opener sucked DICK. It was two hours that sounded like music mixed with a garbage disposal. I wasn't even excited when Cherub came because the vibe was killed.

Cherub put on a really good show! The whole venue was full of energy, and the lights were incredible. Maddy O'Neal was also super cool.

Cherub was unforgettable!! Had a blast with my friends , the lights were crazy and I left with my ears ringing and voice gone

Recommend to everyone!

This show was amazing. I love seeing Cherub. They always brighten my day. The venues they choose are always a bit smaller which makes the show that much better!

Most fun I've ever had!

I went to this show for my birthday, I love Cherub, and they absolutely 100% did not disappoint! I met both guys, both cool as it gets. Probably the best night I've ever had! For real!

Cherub blew us away.

Overall a very positive experience. The crowd was completely engaged and Jordan and Jason were having just as much fun as us all.

!!!so good!!! All three performers were amazing. They performed with passion, enthusiasm and love for the crowd. So grateful to have went! Standing front row was the best thing ever, thanks for the drumstick ;)

Cherub is a funk-soul, electro-pop duo originating from Tennessee US. The twosome combine up-beat rhythms and eccentric vocals to produce a melodic, 1980s sound with a futuristic twist.

Cherub consists of Jordan Kelley and Jason Huber. They acknowledged each other’s talents in 2005 at Middle Tennessee State University whilst studying a music-business degree, before forming Cherub five years later. The quirky producers have emphasized their eagerness to produce great music which is personally relevant, rather than compromise their sound to the confinements of a particular genre.

The disco-holic duo have released three E.Ps for digital download; ‘Man of the Hour’ (2012), ‘100 Bottles EP’ (2013) and ‘Antipasto EP’ (2013). Cherub’s most successful single ‘Doses and Mimosas’ gained viral recognition across a range of social media platforms; it now has over 4.5 million views on YouTube, whilst it reached no.43 on Billboard’s Rock Airplay and no.23 on the Alternative Songs Chart. The hit record prompted a consequent major-label debut with Columbia Records in May 2014 titled ‘Year of the Caprese’ - an emotion-provoking album that was released a week early on Spotify, consisting of explicit lyrics on topical subjects such as sex, drugs and alcohol.

Both Jordan and Jason have performed individually, as Schtompa and I.V.Y League, alongside the likes of Two Fresh and GZA of Wu Tang Clan, whilst they have shared a stage with the credibly acclaimed Miami Horror and Alex B since the formation of Cherub in 2010. Having performed at prestigious festivals such as Lollapalooza and Loufest, the duo have managed to transform a particularly selective sound in to an increasingly mainstream proposition.

It’s difficult to stop yourself from dancing to the feel-good melodies of Cherub, and with an aura of Prince, Zapp and Har Mar Superstar intertwined amongst their productions, the exciting duo continue to revitalize a retro sound.

Live reviews

The energy at the show was spectacular as the crowd was jamming from the start. Cherub opened with fan favorite "Disco Shit," right into "XOXO." The crowd jumped, danced, grinded and sang along. It definitely felt more like a club or even a rave than a standard concert.

Cherub has three albums out now and they played material from all, but a bit heavier from their newest album - Year of the Caprese. I believe the strongest song of the night was from their debut -MoM and Dad, with "Monogomy," which was played in the early part of the show. Following that single, the guys didn't waste any time. They flowed one song into the next, never letting the music die down. They fit 18 songs into their set, staying high energy the entire time.

They took a very brief break following their set closer before coming back on stage for their most popular tune - "Doses and Mimosas." This single has actually been so successful that they re-released it on their third album. The opening notes sent the crowd into a huge frenzy.

Overall impressions - it's been cool seeing this band grow over the past year. They should continue to get bigger but I don't imagine the venues they play getting larger. They're a band that benefits the most from playing small clubs, as it creates a more intimate setting. The main take away is that crowds for Cherub shows are nuts! Get ready for a dancing experience. I guarantee nobody you're standing around will be a stranger by the end of the night.

It's really hard to describe how good Cherub is live. You wouldn't believe how amazing they sound - Jason and Jordan will actually not just hit their falsettos, but they sound twice as good live than they do on the radio. I think they'd be even better in a closed air environment, but I saw them at the Sleep Train Amphitheatre in San Diego and they were still awesome.

I thought they would use a Macbook like most electronica-esque artists these days, but they don't - they actually bring guitars and play their songs, which is refreshing. Doses and Mimosas was definitely the best - when Jason hits those falsetto highs, it's absolutely stunning to hear. I also really enjoyed Jazzercise - the whole crowd danced along to it.

You shouldn't expect their music to sound exactly like it does when they recorded it in the studio - it has so much more energy and personality when performed live, there's no comparison to one another anymore. You can think of one like steak and the other is lobster - both are fantastic, in different ways.

Both members of the band have great synergy with one another, and they were joking with each other and making fun of one another. They even covered a song by another artist which I didn't recognize. The crowd was mostly teens and young adults, and you can expect the smell of alcohol in the air.

Worst concert I've ever been to. I saw Cherub a year ago at the same venue and it was great. This year, the openers were embarrassingly bad (unless pressing play on someone else's remix, bouncing up and down and incessantly dropping f-bombs is somehow good to some people)...so bad that I almost left twice because I couldn't bear the idiocy. That being said...I didn't even see Cherub, because at 11:30, they were still running setup and sound check. I understand that changing out setups is complicated, but when the two "acts" before you consisted of nothing more than drunken morons with a single DJ table, there's no reason that you shouldn't already be fully operational with your full band setup. Cherub has fun music, but it isn't good enough to justify sitting through the drivel that preceded them while they do god knows what backstage while clinging to an inflated sense of self importance that makes them think they can traipse on stage at midnight for a show with an 8 PM door. I'll continue listening to them for free on Amazon Prime and won't make the mistake of a third attempt to see them live.

Cherub, where do we start. From connecting with the audience to enlightening the crowds, and paying attention to what attracts and inspires individuals. This entire team stays aspired to inspire. I for one enjoy how Nifty Cherub gets on stage. Keeping the floor interacting with the stage making each and every one of us feeling connected and part of the show. Cherub keeps us connected in the music like old African tribes around the watering hole the fans start to chant and Cherub shows how organic and talented they are by incorporating our voice into the performance like band practice in the barn. This Crew has some of the few performers that really participate with a veriety of methods to keep the fans asking for more!!

Not only was Cherub amazing, but the opening bands as well (Gibbz and Ghost Beach.) Gibbz is adorably talented and Ghost Beach is crazy! I knew a few songs by both bands but even the songs I didn't know we're so fun live and made me a big fan. CHERUB WAS AWESOME! It was a fantastic mix of new and old songs, and the chemistry between Jason Jordan and the audience was magical. After the show I got a really cool sweatshirt and then me and my friend were standing out front and I saw Jason get into a car right infront of us! I was waving at him and he rolled down the window and invited us to an after party! I swear! He was so sweet and I'll always remember it. THANK YOU CHERUB!

This was one of the best shows I've ever been to—and I've been to a decent number of shows. They totally killed it. It was just like a big party the whole time, you could tell they were loving the audience and we were loving them right back. The best part is that they're really cool guys. We hung out with them after the show and they were totally normal dudes. Cherub fan for life.

I've seen Cherub twice and they always put on a great show. The energy is insane! Jordan always talks between songs and really engages with the audience. We even got to meet Jason after the show the other night! Seeing them live really shows how talented they are and how much they care about their fans. Best concerts I've ever been to.

This is my third time seeing Cherub. They have never disappointed me. They play favorable tracks the crowd wants to hear. This past show they told us what bar they were going to afterward to meet them and we actually met them. Any chance I have to see them perform I will go.

Electro Indie Duo Cherub Returns From Two Year Hiatus – Quick Chat With Jordan Kelley and Jason Huber (INTERVIEW)

  • By Dedrick Hendrix

Cherub is an electro-indie band from Nashville, Tennessee formed in 2010 consisting of Jordan Kelley and Jason Huber. They have earned a big following courtesy of such unadulterated hits like “Doses & Mimosas,” “XOXO,” “Freaky Me, Freaky You.” Obviously, Cherub strays on the side of a good party, but that’s not to say their music itself is completely indulgent/

After almost a two year hiatus, Cherub has returned to the tour and music scene and have released four singles so far in 2018. The duo recently had the time talk to about their recent releases “Want That,” “All In,” “Dancin’ Shoes,” upcoming releases and some other fun random stuff as well.

So let’s start off, I saw you guys earlier this year at the Headwaters Beercade in Chicago for Valentines Day and you guys had a DJ set. You guys have a good time?

Jordan: Yeah, that was a blast! Those brunch parties are always super fun. Because we tale all of our shows very seriously. We try to be as professional as possible. But, those brunch parties are an excuse for us to get a little “loose.” And we just like to have a great time with everybody.

Jason: I want to take a second to acknowledge something you started the interview with  – yeah we took a minute just to write a bunch of music, and now we’re getting back out on tour. This is the first time we’re going out on an actual tour in a while, and to have so many people coming up after the shows and letting us know how long they’ve been rocking with us, letting us know that they’ve been listening since college, it’s super enduring to us. Thanks man, thanks for rocking with us.

cherub band tour

A friend of mine introduced me to you guys back in like 2013. I heard your album MoM & Dad then I heard “Doses & Mimosas,” in a club and I knew I was a fan. So, I know you guys are from Nashville, but how exactly was the group formed?

Jordan: Well, we both went to school together right outside Nashville and then we met in college. I started working on projects while I had been making music with a bunch of different rappers. I still hadn’t figured out that I wanted to sing yet, but I had always played guitar. I started to write and I always had melody ideas when I had singers come in. I started trying to feel comfortable in my own shoes and I wrote our first album Man Of The Hour. But,  I didn’t know how to properly set up a live show to perform. So, that was when I sent it to Jason and from there on we’ve just been building.

Let’s talk about some of the behind the scenes of the writing and recording process. What is going through your mind when your working on a new song?

Whatever feels like it’s getting to get us going. The vibe that it’s giving us in the studio when we’re recording… it is kind of what we feed off of. And if it feels right we’ll put it out. We never really try to pigeonhole ourselves with our sounds or a certain tempo, we just try to make music that feels right at the time and put it out. The process behind it is just doing what we feel.

I’ve heard people say you guys are electro-indie or even alternative. What genre would you guys say you are?

Jordan: Me and Jason both say just pop. I know when most people think of pop music they think it doesn’t sound like us, because they think of what you may hear on the radio. But, in the traditional sense of pop music you know we like the structure of having verses that lead up to a catchy hook.

So let’s talk about some of the new music. This year is the first I’ve heard since your 2016 album, Bleed Gold, Piss Excellence. But, now you guys are back in the groove. Let’s talk about one of your recent singles, “All In.” Great song and well produced video. I have to ask where was the video shot at?

Jason: That was at a good friend of mine from high school actually. We all grew up together and everybody went their separate ways and started doing creative projects. It’s really cool that everyone is out doing their own thing and we had the opportunity to come back together as friends and work on projects like this. That whole thing was shot in North Carolina and it was shot in one continuous take at altered speed. The whole thing was kind of crazy that Jordan was singing at double time and then to slow the whole down and have it sync up perfectly with the song. It was pretty cool concept and I think we all did a great job on it.

I know you guys have worked a lot with DJ Paul from Three Six Mafia. Do you guys have anything in the pipeline with him?

Jordan: He linked up with us on social media. We just happened to be going through LA like a week after he hit us up. So,  It was kind of an immediate like hey what’s up let’s hit the studio and then we made it happen. And, we were going through LA on our way to Bangkok, so while we were in studio with him, we were like yeah you should come to Bangkok with us like (laughs). But, he actually bought a ticket to Bangkok. We shot a video while we were there for a song that we cut in LA. We don’t have like a secure release date, but it’s coming out very soon. I literally just yesterday approved a final edit for the video we shot. So, that’s coming out really, really soon. And we also have him featured on a song that we (Cherub) produced that will be coming out as well and that doesn’t have a release date either. But, definitely keep on the lookout for that.

Any plans to release an album soon?

Jordan: We’re just trying to consistently put out music man the way I feel how things are going right now. I still love albums the way they play through, but it’s been really cool to just put out singles to see how well they stick. With the way that releases go with Spotify, Apple Music and all that stuff is set it’s really doing us a favor by letting people really soak in the one or two songs that we release at a time rather than letting six songs get lost on a 12-track album. So, it’s been cool releasing one or two songs at a time with a video. We’ve been really into it.

Jason: We’ve got solid albums worth of material if not more. So we’re just slowly but surely releasing to the world and allowing us to really focus each piece of music. So far we’ve released four songs in the past couple of months. It’s really been cool going out on tour and to see the genuine reaction from the crowd to that new music. To the point where we’ll start playing one of the new songs and we’ll get that initial “WOO!” It’s really flattering to hear people doing that to our new music. It’s the feeling that we don’t get until we get to see until we’re out on tour in a room with a bunch of people that are ready to party.

How’s the Free Form tour been going so far?

Jason: Things have been good. This is the first time we’ve been out in like six years! We have an entire new crew, new lighting director, new stage manager, new tour manager. It’s been really cool to bring a whole bunch of friends out with us. We’ve almost had a big family affair on the bus. And to be able to expand that tour thing that much further. It’s something that’s really special for us. To be able to chill on a bus with some of your closest friends and traveling the country and throw parties with people. This is a really cool phenomenon. To be able to share it with our friends has been fun.

If you either of you guys could work with one person in the music industry who would it be?

Jordan: I want to do a song with Devin The Dude. I think that would be cool. Where he would do a verse and I would do a verse. That would be pretty cool.

Eleven Totally True Things About Cherub

Adam Gold

  • Feb 28, 2014
  • Feb 28, 2014 Updated May 4, 2021

Cherub is living large these days. Tomorrow night, the velvet-smooth electro-pop duo kicks off the two-month North American Blow’d Tour — on which they’ll bring along visually dazzling stage production and document the trek with a video crew — with a headlining gig at the 1,000-plus-cap Cannery Ballroom (tickets

!). What’s an even bigger BFD is that the band inked a major-label deal with Columbia Records at the end of 2013. Last week, the label sent the band’s semi-viral hit, the near-two-year-old “Doses and Mimosas,” to alternative rock radio, where it debuted in the Top 40.

Kicking back on couches in living room of their East Nashville crash pad — where the beers are ice cold and ice cubes fill the bong on the coffee table — the duo’s Jordan Kelley, 26, and Jason Huber, 25, (two chums who met as music business majors at MTSU and started their ‘80s R&B-fetishizing pop-EDM combo a mere three years ago) are pretty stoked as they talk to the Cream about their whirlwind career thus far. If they (and Columbia) get their way, expect a slew of articles from publications worldwide with ledes having some variation of “electro duo proves there’s more to Nashville than just country music.” From fun facts to crucial deets, here are some key things to know about the band.

They did it the old-fashioned way — through touring.

That’s right, a whole lotta viral love — which Cherub’s received to the tune of more than 1.7 million YouTube views on the “Doses and Mimosas” video — no doubt aided and abetted the band’s success, but it was through three years of relentless road-doggin’, including gig after gig at clubs, frat parties and rave-ish EDM-y shindigs, that they built the kind of word-of-mouth following that resulted in the band doing their first NYC show as headliners at the 700-capacity Highline Ballroom. “The bigger cities, even if you haven’t played them, they are just more up on what’s going out and what’s really new,” Kelley tells the Cream.

Now they’re on a major label.

“For the most part, really, nothing changed,” Kelley says of the bands decision to sign with Columbia Records. “Me and Jason have tried to keep everything as self-sufficient as possible. … We don’t want to be a band that collects a fuck-ton of debt and never makes any money.”

That spendthrift ethos includes cutting their records at a friend’s (producer Nick Curtis) home studio: The Stu, in Franklin, where they recorded their first three albums, in addition to their forthcoming fourth record, which will also be their major-label debut. They recorded most of the album before inking their deal, and finished it with minimal influence and interjection from their corporate overlords at Columbia — “They’re stoked with it,” Kelley says.

The Cherub signing signifies how, more and more, major labels aren’t looking to take baby bands and build businesses around them, but rather jump on board with ones that are already building their own cottage industry and giving them a steroid injection of sorts.

“The way they pitched it to us, and the thing that made us feel comfortable with [signing], was that they were a magnifying glass and they just want to take our vision and put it on a platform that we couldn’t [get to ourselves],” says Huber.

The viral success of “Doses and Mimosas” helped them get a major-label deal.

“I think at this point if labels see a song get the slightest bit of a viral [presence] on the Internet, they contact management and say, ‘Hey, what’s up with [your artist],'” Kelley muses.

In other words, YouTube views and the like are the new A&R barometer, or the music industry’s Gallop poll.

“We didn’t need to take the deal,” he goes on, explaining that the team (booking agent, management, legal, et al.) they’d built was already turning the band into a profitable business. “During the negotiation process we decided that, if it came to it, we would be ready to walk away. … We knew that we were able to keep doing what we were doing and sustain it.”

Their major-label debut will be titled Year of the Caprese .

That’s right, Cherub’s next record will be called Year of the Caprese , and the band hopes to have it out this summer. They’re also planning on playing seven songs from it at tomorrow night’s Cannery show, and one of them is called “Disco Shit.”

Another song currently has the working title “The Back and Forth Song,” but they say they’ll have to change it to avoid similarities to Aaliyah’s 1994 hit “Back and Forth,” which they admit provided the inspiration for the song’s sound and title. In fact, they say that the song was, by sheer coincidence, so sonically similar to another (unnamed) pop song that they had to hire a musicologist to analyze it and make sure they weren’t in an intellectual-property-theft danger zone.

As far as the rest of the record, expect lots of fast tempos with saturated, half-time curveballs that come from left field. “It gets really drippy,” Kelley says, going on to explain that the material also has a heavy R&B influence along with more multi-instrumentation and a heavy dose of vintage, analog synth lines.

They wouldn’t mind being the biggest band in the world.

Columbia believes so much in “Doses and Mimosas,” that the label recently sent the not-all-that-new single to alternative-rock radio, where it cracked the Top 40, making it the “Sounds of Silence” of electro-pop. In Nashville, you might be able to catch a spin on 102.9 The Buzz. “I heard Korn, Disturbed and Stone Temple Pilots while I was listening for us,” Kelley says. “I was just [wondering] what people would think when ‘Doses’ popped up.”

“We were tempted to do the cliché thing and fight it — ‘No, we have so much new music!’ — but our dream for this whole thing is to have it reach a global scale,” Huber says.

They’re more than a party band

Cherub cut their teeth opening for EDM stars like Pretty Lights and MiMOSA and jam-band-friendly outfits like Sound Tribe Sector 9 and Umphrey’s McGhee, so don’t be surprised if you go to one of their gigs and get shoulder-tapped by ravers on the look out for doses and rolls. That said, Kelley and Huber aim to be more than just a “party band.”

“I feel like it’s so temporary when you’re a ‘party band,’” Kelley, the duo’s principal songwriter says. “There’s a catch-22 there — we don’t mind playing and having people party to our music, but I also don’t want it to be a thing where it’s like, the next week they find the next party song. I want to make songs that can connect with people.”

That’s not a whole lot unlike jam culture, though, where one faction of the crowd is their to hang on (or excitedly vibe on) every note, while the rest of the crowd is there because it’s a good place to get the best drugs and party.

They opened for STS9 at Red Rocks.

“Colorado is a really strong market for us,” Kelley says.

They get trolled on hard by STS9 fans

In January, a wiley Sound Tribe Sector 9 fan punked Cherub by tweeting a Photoshopped image implying the duo had stolen STS9 bassist David Murphy, along with the hashtag #Sector9NoMore.

As serendipitously dumb luck would have it, Murphy announced he actually was leaving his own band two hours later. Compounding matters, Murphy actually was due to record some bass tracks on Caprese , but canceled in the wake of the whole leaving-the-band non-troversy.

“[Their fans] we like, ‘Oh shit, this is fucking true!’” Kelley recalls. “There were some heady-ass bros that were making us feel like they were going to kill us.” But most of those irate STS9 fans just tried to get under Kelley and Huber’s skin by “telling us how gay we are,” the singer says with an eye-roll, “like that would make us really defensive. … The thing that’s so mind-blowing about Internet haters is the amount of time and dedication that is spent on negative energy. The people have liked our page and commented on all our threads on, like, a daily basis.”

They at one point lived off McDonald’s while Jordan Kelley really did live off Subway.

Kelley is a former Subway sandwich artist. As luck would have it, a few years back he got laid off two weeks before he was about to quit and go on tour, and supported himself hand-to-mouth existence on the road from the meager unemployment checks. “That was lucky as fuck,” he says.

“We lived on the [McDonald’s] 20-piece for a while,” Huber says of the duo’s early days.

Jordan Kelley is a metalhead at heart

“We play pop music — that’s what it is at the end of the day, just catchy hooks and stuff people can hopefully not feel embarrassed singing [along] to.” Kelley, a native of Lincoln, Neb., explains. “[But] I grew up on metal. I love metal.”

So he was beyond proud when, at one Cherub show, he spotted a metal bro in a Soylent Green t-shirt, thrashing about to the band’s set with reckless abandon. “That’s so awesome that this music translated to him like that, because I just love metal; I love angry, drunken, screaming metal.”

They’re moving up the Bonnaroo marquee.

The band made its Bonnaroo debut two years ago on the modest Budweiser stage. This year they’ll appear on a much larger stage.

Cherub - Still DTF? Tour

With gibbz and mike floss.

Jordan Kelley and Jason Huber take their fun very, very seriously. The pair behind the ambitious and emphatic Nashville duo Cherub craft hooky electro-pop that lyrically captures the risqué, pleasure-seeking impulses of their youth, while their studio expertise results in alluring grooves.  The duo met while pursuing music business degrees at Middle Tennessee State, a large public university just outside of Nashville. Prior to meeting up at a dorm party, the two were figuring out how to become their own local legends. Huber was fronting a psychedelic folk-rock band, whereas Kelley was something of a mainstay in the Nashville hip-hop scene. Well, sort of. “I was making beats for this hip-hop duo and we got to open for GZA, but I didn’t know how to DJ my own stuff.” After meeting Huber, “I just asked ‘can you turn my beats into a live show?” Soon thereafter, Kelley sent Huber his self-composed Man of the Hour EP and the two realized the potential in their partnership. Cherub began in earnest, with Huber’s live production embellishing Kelley’s clever songcraft.   Fast forward a few years later, and Cherub’s popularity is soaring. The pair landed a major-label deal with Columbia Records— which released their smooth, palpitating album, Year of the Caprese in May 2014 — based in part on the runaway success of break-out single “Doses and Mimosas.” A FTW anthem that pits dripping falsettos against echo-chamber synths, it jettisoned to the top of The Hype Machine charts, while landing concurrently on Billboard’s Rock Airplay and Alternative Songs charts. Meanwhile, its DIY fever-dream video had attracted roughly 5 million sets of eyeballs on YouTube. And that was merely one of Cherub’s songs.  On Year of the Caprese — recorded over two years, with help from friend/engineer Nick Curtis — you can find a song like “Disco Shit” (a shimmering high-five to hedonism posited on rubber-band beats) alongside “Freaky Me, Freaky You” (a more wound-down ’90s-esque slow jam). One of Caprese’s more stand-out contemplative tracks, the latter finds Jordan delivering tortured sweet nothings in an almost unrecognizable tenor. “That’s from a perspective of someone thinking that they know what is going on in a relationship but they really don’t,” he said of the Teddy Pendergrass-sampling song. The album debuted on Billboard’s Top 200 and Digital Album Charts, and an electric performance at Bonnaroo lead to a late night TV booking on CONAN this past fall. In December 2014, the guys released The Leftovers EP, which served as a culmination of their many years of hard work.  But even before Year of the Caprese and The Leftovers, Cherub sprang to life with the self-release of the Man of the Hour EP in 2010. A debut album, Mom & Dad, and two subsequent EPs (100 Bottles and Antipasto) followed — along with a sprawling grassroots following born off three years of touring, earning the duo somewhat of a reputation for their live shows and as such, there is a certain degree of built-in elation expected from Cherub, live.  “Some people question how authentic or serious we are about music,” Jordan says. “All of it is from the heart. Me and Jason try hard not to create some sort of cool-guy environment — we want people to feel comfortable.” And sometimes that means pulling listeners out of their comfort zones. Says Jason, “We’re serious about what we do, but we’re also here to remind them to take themselves less serious once in a while.”  The duo is currently in the studio recording a new album.
