W.A.S.P. are here to provide a good time and to celebrate their legacy, and they do both of these things in spades tonight. – Metal Talk

“When you’re putting on a show as enjoyable as this, it’s no surprise why people keep coming back.” – Moshville

About W.A.S.P. [Text Wrapping Break]Few Bands in the history of Rock N’ Roll have ever incited the love, the hate, the raw emotional effect this Band has had on the world. From the very beginning, in the small venues of Los Angeles California, and later to the numerous countries worldwide that banned these Winged Assassins from performing live, the Band’s unique style of Shock and Rock caused Religious organizations, Local City Councils, Parliaments, and the Washington D.C. Senate to hold hearings in an effort to bar this group from selling records and trashing stages everywhere they played.

The band’s founding member, frontman Blackie Lawless, has led the group as its lead vocalist and primary songwriter since its beginning. His unique brand of visual, social and political comment took the group to worldwide heights and sold millions of records alongside a legacy of sold out shows across the globe for 4 decades.

Joined by bassist Mike Duda and guitarist Doug Blair, whose tenures in the band span 26 and 18 years respectively, along with drummer extraordinaire Aquiles Priester, will take the Band and the Fans back to where it all started. Complete with the stage show extravaganza that many fans never saw live.

Witness Live the Winged Assassins spectacle of “SHOCK and ROLL” as they take you Back…Back to the Beginning!

W.A.S.P. wrapped up its first U.S. tour in 10 years with a sold-out show on December 11 at The Wiltern in Los Angeles. This marked the 18th sold-out shows for the U.S. tour, which kicked off in late October. W.A.S.P. 's performances included the return of the band's classic song "Animal (Fuck Like a Beast)" , which hadn't been played live in over 15 years.

Looking back on the U.S. tour, Lawless said: "There have been a number of times in my life when I was caught between agony and ecstasy, many times while either making a record that had great meaning for me or a tour that was truly memorable. But the U.S. tour that we just finished has been a joy I've not felt since the first tour we did in '84-'85. When that first tour was over, I felt like a little kid that had his brand new toy taken away from him. When I got up on Elvis [ Blackie 's mic stand] at the end of the last show finale, I stayed up on him longer than I normally do. I held that pose for what seemed like forever, and in my mind, it was a blur and I was flashing in my head all the shows we had just done and how desperately I wished this tour would just keep going and going. I've never wanted something not to end so badly before… even more than the first world tour in '84-'85.

"I've been blessed with a good memory, and as I was on Elvis , I could see the faces of many of you that were at these shows. In a flash it flooded my head and I just wanted to stay up there.

"When we played the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, it had a profound effect on myself and the whole band. We knew we were standing on sacred ground. Where I was standing and singing was the exact spot where Loretta Lynn 's body had been lying at her funeral just a couple of weeks before. She was music royalty; she was true greatness…. the Coal Miner's Daughter. That was an emotional night for us and from that moment on for the rest of the tour, we all kept talking about how we absolutely did not want this tour to end. In these shows we got an awful lot of love from all you guy's and it was so heavy when we'd stand on stage it felt like we could cut it with a knife. Something truly special happened between all of you and us on this tour. More than I've ever felt before in my entire career.

"Additionally, I must take a couple of minutes to address the meet-and-greets. I had never done these before. Especially not where I could have a real dialog with those who were there. In the course of the 30-plus gatherings, I learned more about your true feelings than I've ever learned before. Someone might say I should have started doing them several years ago. If I did, I don't believe it would have had the same effect because the things I was hearing from you was an accumulation of years and years of you studying those lyrics and having the space to let them speak to you that only time can do. Time to let you really reflect on how it's spoken to your lives. The looks on your faces when you spoke was at times for me a frustration that is difficult to express, because mere words cannot paint the raw emotions I was feeling from many of you. And I'm supposed to be the writer here!"

Lawless has led W.A.S.P. as its lead vocalist and primary songwriter since its beginning. His unique brand of visual, social and political comment took the group to worldwide heights and sold millions of records alongside a legacy of sold-out shows across the globe for four decades. He is joined by bassist Mike Duda and guitarist Doug Blair , whose tenures in the band span 28 and 17 years respectively, along with drummer extraordinaire Aquiles Priester .

W.A.S.P. 's latest release was "ReIdolized (The Soundtrack To The Crimson Idol)" , which came out in February 2018. It was a new version of the band's classic 1992 album "The Crimson Idol" , which was re-recorded to accompany the movie of the same name to mark the 25th anniversary of the original LP's release. The re-recorded version also features four songs missing from the original album.

W.A.S.P. 's most recent studio album of all-new original material was 2015's "Golgotha" .

W.A.S.P. 's first live performance since December 2019 took place on July 23, 2022 at Skansen in Stockholm, Sweden.

W.A.S.P. is in the middle of its massive European leg of the 40th-anniversary world tour, with upcoming shows taking place in Spain, Belgium, The Netherlands, Denmark, Sweden, Germany and more before wrapping on May 18 in Sofia, Bulgaria at Universidada Sports Hall.

Top 10 W.A.S.P. Songs

With the benefit of hindsight, it's clear that W.A.S.P. were a fish out of water among L.A. bands of their generation. Too heavy and ugly for glam, and not fast or inaccessible enough for thrash, the quartet still somehow walked a tightrope to unlikely stardom with forceful metal anthems and an outrageous ‘80s update of ‘70s shock-rock tactics. Credit charismatic leader Blackie Lawless -- a short-term New York Doll, Killer Kane co-founder and bandmate of Nikki Sixx in the seminal L.A. metal band London -- and a loyal fan base who already knows these tracks by heart. Join us as we celebrate the Top 10 W.A.S.P. Songs:

'Thunder Red'

If you thought our Top 10 W.A.S.P. Songs list would be a traipse down ancient memory lane, think again. Lawless and his minions are still going strong, churning out reliably powerful and provocative heavy metal albums like ‘Babylon,’ an album loaded with tasty cuts like the standout ‘Thunder Red.’

'The Headless Children'

Facing something of a critical backlash and commendably looking to mature, W.A.S.P. ventured into less blatantly sexual, more thought-provoking material on ‘The Headless Children,’ which became a favorite among die-hard fans while yielding this memorable title track.

Arguably the most venomous, pissed-off song in W.A.S.P.’s long and controversial career (and that’s saying something), the economically titled ‘U’ comes to us courtesy of the indicatively named ‘Kill, F—k, Die,’ album. Here, Blackie’s bunch briefly entertaining industrial music flavors, but losing none of their caustic shock-rock bite in the process.

'Wild Child'

One of W.A.S.P.’s signature tunes, ‘Wild Child’ kicked off the band’s breakthrough sophomore album with a surprisingly tempered, mid-paced groove and improbably catchy melodic embellishments. Of course, this was nothing that a typically over-the-top-music video, complete with fast bikes, freaky babes, and setting the desert on fire couldn’t spice up.

'Animal (‘F—k Like a Beast)'

Undoubtedly the most notorious song of W.A.S.P.’s career, ‘Animal’ was allegedly dropped from the band’s debut album at the 11th hour, and subsequently released only as a mail-order single. But you’d think it was always there, for all the press chatter it encouraged as an unavoidable interview topic — and as a favorite target of the PMRC’s famous crusade against explicit lyrics.

'9.5.-N.A.S.T.Y.'

The tried-and-true W.A.S.P. formula was definitely starting to wear a little thin by the release of their third LP in three years. But, hey, that never hurt AC/DC or Motorhead . Still, their tribute to phone sex combined all of this band’s key strengths (thunderous power chords, howling choruses, and sexual depravity) as well as anything in their catalog.

'Jack Action'

If not for its brazenly perverted subject matter (well, we don’t know for sure, but we can guess), the incredibly infectious ‘Jack Action’ had all the makings of a massive hit single for W.A.S.P. But, perhaps due to the controversy surrounding them at the time, there were no singles issued from 'The Last Command.' Regardless, the album reached No. 47 on the Billboard 200, and went platinum.

'L.O.V.E. Machine'

After several years devoted to painstakingly fine-tuning their formula through trial and error (anyone remember Circus Circus ?), W.A.S.P. had compiled enough top-shelf material to make an absolute juggernaut of their 1984 debut. And arguably none of its songs married the band’s wanton power and anthemic hooks as effectively as ‘L.O.V.E. Machine’ — the first in a long series of acronym tunes for fans to dissect in search of deeper meaning, even though there wasn’t any.

'Blind in Texas'

Thirty years later, W.A.S.P.’s biggest hit, ‘Blind in Texas,’ and its accompanying music video have lost none of their absurd but irresistible charm. Heck, the song’s vast catalog of Lone Star State hi-jinx is amusing enough. But this clip’s intentionally corny Old West cliches take everything to the next level of ‘80s excess.

'I Wanna Be Somebody'

Our apologies if this is, in any way, a predictable finish for our list of Top 10 W.A.S.P. Songs. But the band’s buzz saw-wielding, raw meat-tossing and, oh yeah, head-banging career never got any better than this boisterous and irrepressible album-opening statement of intent. Indeed, you’d be hard pressed to find another rock and roll paean to do-or-die ambition that's more direct, urgent and earnest as ‘I Wanna Be Somebody,’ with its promise to “ live in fame and die in flames ” instead of growing old.

Footage From Taylor Swift’s ‘Eras Tour’ Rehearsals Hint She’s Adding ‘The Tortured Poets Department’ Songs

Taylor Swift European Eras Tour Rehearsals Seemingly Have Tortured Poets Department Clues

Taylor Swift might be gearing up to hold a Tortured Poets Department board meeting in the middle of her European Eras Tour concerts.

Swift, 34, uploaded a video of her tour prep to YouTube Shorts on Thursday, April 25, with the caption, “A fortnight till Paris.” In the clip, Swift practiced her setlist alongside her backup dancers.

While eagle-eyed fans noticed that Swift had run through performances of the likes of “Miss Americana & the Heartbreak Prince” and “Karma,” they also noticed snippets from a few numbers that had seemingly never been seen on stage.

In one instance, Swift played a white guitar and fans clocked that ivory hue matches the iconography of her new album , The Tortured Poets Department . There also appears to be a desk positioned on stage at one point in the video that could be another reference to the department. In another clip, Swift — wearing her now-viral PopFlex Active skort — leaned against a railing with white letters in the center. Fans have speculated the letters spell out “TTPD.”

“That’s the TTPD logo on the railing,” one user pointed out via X. “Omg TTPD is getting her own set at The Eras Tour !”

Swift also wore black lace-up heels as she posed on the railing, which other social media users compared to the similar Victorian-inspired pumps she sported in her “Fortnight” music video with Post Malone . (“Fortnight” is also the lead single off of TTPD.)

Another moment in the YouTube clip shows Swift surrounded by her backup dancers, the latter of whom are wearing circus-inspired top hats. Fans believe it is teeing up a TTPD performance of “Who’s Afraid of Little Old Me?” because of the big top lyrical reference, “I was tame, I was gentle ’til the circus life made me mean / ‘Don’t you worry, folks, we took out all her teeth.”

Another social media fan speculated: “Why do I feel like these are definitely rehearsal pics for TTPD songs ‘cause when have we ever had the dancers with hats and sticks.”

A selection of Swifties even think that they figured out the entire TTPD set that will be added based on an Instagram post by Pandora. The streaming station posted a “What song are you listening to next from The Tortured Poets Department?” graphic, specifically naming “Fortnight,” “The Alchemy,” “But Daddy I Love Him” “Down Bad” and “I Can Do It With a Broken Heart.” Swift’s official fan account, Taylor Nation, reshared the upload onto its Instagram Story page on Thursday.

One of Apple Music’s Swift-themed playlists, aptly titled “Taylor Swift Essentials,” has since been updated to include “Fortnight” and “Down Bad,” which other fans think further tease setlist plans. Apple’s official Eras “Setlist” playlist, however, has not been updated to include any TTPD hits.

Swift kicked off her Eras Tour in March 2023, traversing the United States and Central America to perform her sold-out show before beginning the international leg. Following overseas shows in Japan, Australia and Singapore earlier this year, Swift has currently been on a month long hiatus.

The Grammy winner’s next show is in Paris on Thursday, May 9, but she has not publicly revealed if or how the set list is changing to accommodate TTPD . It is also possible that the newly released tracks could pop up during her acoustic “surprise song” section .

W ith the new album The Tortured Poets Department now out, Taylor Swift fans are wondering if the pop star will be adding a few of its songs to the Eras Tour setlist for the rest of the 2024 concerts. Here's everything you need to know.

Are Taylor Swift's Tortured Poets songs being added to The Eras Tour?

Based on a YouTube short with a few clips of Swift's rehearsals, fans have picked up clues suggesting that she will be adding new songs from The Tortured Poets Department to her 2024 Eras Tour setlist.

On May 9, Taylor Swift will take the stage once again to begin the European leg of her Eras Tour. Her usual concerts last just over three hours with her performing around 45 songs on average. But with The Tortured Poets Department, she has 31 more songs to choose from.

Swift recently added the above video showing moments from her rehearsals. But breaking down the video, fans believe that she teased the addition of a few tracks from The Tortured Poets Department into her upcoming concerts.

TikTok user ‘ Nikkiking23 ' posted the following video presenting a few pieces of evidence suggesting the addition of The Tortured Poets Department songs to Taylor Swift's Paris concert and beyond:

While this isn't confirmed yet, Swift could surprise fans across her European, American, and Canadian tours.

However, since the concerts are already big shows, she could choose to condense a few old songs or even remove them to incorporate the new songs. If this happens, it would be interesting to see how fans react to a change to her setlist.

Will Taylor Swift sing ‘Fortnight' during The Eras Tour 2024 shows?

Fans believe that Taylor Swift hinted at singing Fortnight from The Tortured Poets Department album during The Eras Tour 2024 shows.

Swift hasn’t confirmed whether she will sing The Tortured Poets Department songs during her upcoming shows. However, it's likely for "Fortnight" to be one of the songs she picks, if she chooses to sing new ones.

Fortnight is the lead song of The Tortured Poets Department. Considering that the European tour starts in a fortnight and Swift's above video heavily teases the song “Fortnight,” it's likely that Swift will at least perform this new song in Paris on May 9, and perhaps beyond.

Neil Young Stuns at 2024 Tour Launch, Unveils Lost ‘Cortez the Killer’ Verse

By Andy Greene

Andy Greene

In typical Neil Young fashion, virtually nothing was revealed about his 2024 U.S. tour before it kicked off Wednesday night at San Diego’s Cal Coast Credit Union Open Air Theatre, other than the fact he’d be backed by Crazy Horse , and that Micah Nelson would be taking over guitar duties from Nils Lofgren. Would he pull a Greendale and debut an entire rock opera nobody had ever heard? Would he focus the set around the three new studio albums he cut with Crazy Horse between 2019 and 2022? Might he repeat the concept of his 2023 solo tour by spotlighting obscure Eighties and Nineties album tracks and skipping most of his hits?

They jammed for six minutes before Young sang the opening lines, igniting the crowd into a frenzy, but the big moment came near the end, when he began singing completely unfamiliar words. As he teased earlier this month , it was the legendary lost segment of the song that failed to record during the 1975 Zuma sessions because the console briefly lost power. Young recently found the lyric manuscript, and worked out where they originally fit in the song.

“I floated on the water,” Young sang. “I ate that ocean wave/Two weeks after the slaughter/I was living in a cave/They came too late to get me/But there’s no one here to set me free/From this rocky grave/To that snowed-out ocean wave.”

It was a remarkable moment to witness. After 49 years and over 540 live performances, the world finally got to hear the song as Young originally wrote it.

Editor’s picks

The 250 greatest guitarists of all time, the 500 greatest albums of all time, the 50 worst decisions in movie history, every awful thing trump has promised to do in a second term.

Young was talking about “Scattered (Let’s Think About Livin’),” from 1996’s Broken Arrow, which was the newest song they played all evening. The rest of the set was music recorded when Briggs was alive, largely between 1969 and 1979, beginning with “Don’t Cry No Tears.” He followed it up with a triple shot of Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere : “Down by the River,” “The Losing End,” and the title track. And it was a particularly mesmerizing “Down by the River” that stretched out for 16 blissful minutes.

Billie Eilish, Lorde, Green Day Among Artists to Sign Letter in Support of Ticketing Reform Act

Pearl jam, neil young, alanis morissette lead ohana fest 2024, phish reach jam-band bliss at the sphere in las vegas.

After the Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere mini-set, the quartet (Crazy Horse 4.0?) kicked into one of the greatest renditions of “Powderfinger” I’ve ever heard, thanks to improvisational guitar work prior to each verse by Young and Nelson. What came next was a 16-minute “Love and Only Love,” the band walking offstage, and then Young strapping on an harmonica rack for solo acoustic renditions of “Comes a Time,” “Heart of Gold,” and “Human Highway” that had the entire amphitheater singing along.

The band returned to wrap up the night with “Don’t Be Denied,” an autobiographical tale that carries a lot more emotional weight when Young sings it at age 78 as opposed to 28, and a thrashed-out “Hey Hey, My My (Into the Black).”

Kristi noem describes executing puppy she 'hated' in new book, kanye west announces 'yeezy porn' amid reports of adult film company, ellen degeneres addresses ‘getting kicked out of show business’ on her new comedy tour: ‘it’s been a toll on my ego’.

He might duplicate this exact set when the tour continues the following night at the same venue. He might not repeat a single song. He may even perform a complete classic album, which is something he started doing late last year. The joy of seeing Neil Young is that you never have any idea what’s going to happen once the lights dim.

When Love Means Being Selfish

I knew I had to hold onto what I needed — even if that meant using a lawyer to get custody (of a dog).

An illustration of a man and a dog wearing ski equipment on a chairlift, with a woman on the chair behind them sitting alone with her arms crossed.

By Frederick Reimers

“You cannot use my dog to attract other girls,” my ex emailed from Taiwan. She could see on social media that I had been on a ski tour with a woman, and there were photos of the dog, Bhoga, bounding downhill in the broken snow of our ski tracks.

Not that I believed she had a say in how Bhoga and I spent our time. A year earlier, she had moved from Portland, Ore., to Taiwan to teach English, a mercy killing for our on-again-off-again relationship. There had never been enough trust between us. She had disturbing dreams of me tattooing strange things onto her body. What I really did to her was withhold love.

When we first got together, a snowstorm shut down the city. She skipped work and we skied through the streets. I later fell for her when she played cello in a bathrobe. But a year later, she would sometimes disappear for a whole weekend and call me for a ride home Sunday night.

My ex had brought Bhoga into our relationship as a little puppy. Eighteen months later, when she planned to leave the country, we agreed the dog would stay with me because Taiwan required a six-week quarantine for arriving dogs. It was unbearable for me to think of this sensitive pup, who trembled with fear when city buses trundled by, being confined in a concrete kennel for that long.

Bhoga was an unlikely lure for a new love. “She’s kind of homely,” my mother said when I brought her to Wyoming for a visit. Her adoption papers said German shepherd mixed with boxer, a common pet shelter euphemism for pit bull. She had a wasp waist and barrel chest with a rough brown-and-black brindled coat. The stripes made her brow appeared furrowed, and with her black muzzle and flattened ears, she could look murderous. People gave us a wide berth on walks. Even the name my ex gave her was ungainly sounding, a Sanskrit word for enjoyment, or indulgence.

Up close, though, Bhoga’s yellow eyes conveyed love. She was exceptional in ways I admired — polite, athletic and confident (except in the case of city buses). On the river, she would sit placidly on the nose of a paddleboard as we bobbed through white water.

As someone who had been bullied as a child, I loved her grit: She never started a fight but never lost one either. If she wanted something — to go outside, a scratch behind the ears — she would quietly tap her toenails on the wooden floor until you noticed.

With friends, she swerved from outstretched hands but later invited affection. Her attention felt bestowed, which was a revelation to me. I had been sent away to boarding school at age 11, and in college my first real love had dumped me hard.

Those betrayals stuck with me, and I struggled to trust relationships. This confident animal behaved as if there were no person she would rather be with, no errand she didn’t want to join. So of course I would bring her on dates, to prove to the women I was interested in, and to myself, that I was worthy and capable of love.

Bhoga and I went skiing with more than one prospective girlfriend. There was the camping trip where a woman and I awoke at dawn to an animal snuffling and pushing against the tent’s nylon walls. Terrified it was a bear, we laughed in relief when we saw it was Bhoga, having slipped out in the night and now pawing to get back in.

She and I had grown so inseparable that when my ex returned to Portland after two years, I couldn’t contemplate parting with her. By then I’d been caring for Bhoga almost her entire life, and she was more important to me than any other living being.

When my ex demanded that I return Bhoga, and then called the cops on me when I didn’t respond, I panicked and fled to my parents’ house in Wyoming. Then I got a lawyer. It was a terrible thing to do, my most selfish act ever, but also the most empowering.

The lawyer asked if I wanted to consider a shared custody agreement, but I didn’t trust that; I couldn’t imagine my ex showing up for the exchanges. So he suggested a strategy of putting a lien on the dog for fees owed for boarding Bhoga for the two years my ex was gone.

At $40 a day, it came to $27,000, an absurd amount. Some months later, my ex capitulated and proposed a settlement, but instead of paying her for the dog, I was to donate $2,500 to animal-related charities, which I happily did.

I wasn’t proud of the legal tactics, but the day I signed the papers, Bhoga and I went for a celebratory hike through the tall Wyoming summer grass. I had decided to stay, knowing that the easy access to open space better suited both of us.

It took nearly a decade for Bhoga to heal me. There were dalliances with new women and a yearlong attempt at something permanent, but for much of that time it was just her and me, curled together on the couch. Her coat smelled like suede and her paws like popcorn. Even a year into dating my now-wife Eve, she remarked with some frustration that I seemed more interested in snuggling the dog than her.

At one point, my friend Adam came to stay with me for a week amid his divorce. He was grieving, deep in introspection, and Bhoga slept on his bed every night.

“Do you know anything about your attachment style?” he asked, handing me the book he was reading.

“I think my attachment style is canine,” I joked.

“Exactly,” he said, “that’s a secure attachment.”

I had always fallen into anxious and avoidant pairings and been whiplashed by highs and lows. In Eve, I finally understood that I had found someone who preferred to laugh than to make the joke, and who took care to maintain her friendships.

Of course, Bhoga was a secure match for us both. There were countless hikes where she circled back to check on whichever of us was lagging. When Eve’s golden retriever died of cancer in 2017, walking with Bhoga was Eve’s balm. Later, Bhoga mothered our new puppy, Arlo, by licking his ears. And at our wedding three years ago, they both accompanied us down the aisle, a flower on her collar, a bow tie on his.

When we brought our baby home from the hospital, Bhoga, then 14, welcomed him with a sniff and a lick before easing herself arthritically onto her bed. Her ears stood up straight to compensate for her growing deafness, and on walks, when she came to cracks in the sidewalk, she would often leap extravagantly over them. We wondered what, exactly, she could still see. Strangers approached to pet her, drawn by her sweet sugar face and slow perseverance, and probably by the memories of the old dogs they themselves had lost.

A dozen times a day we would help her off the floor where she had fallen, grateful to be of service for all she had given us, which was essentially our family. Tears came often and unexpectedly to me, washing the dishes or folding laundry, knowing we were close to letting her go. Those old feelings of abandonment came knifing back. I didn’t want to do that to her, knowing her fear — common among dogs — of being left behind.

When we made the decision, we were lucky to have a vet come to our house and administer drugs to Bhoga through an IV while we sat with her in the sun beside the woodstove. She slipped away in our arms, perhaps the best-case scenario, but every bit as wrenching as I had imagined.

What was a comfort were the tributes that poured in from the scores of people who had known Bhoga; her self-possessed presence had touched them all. Compared to other losses I have endured, the support from friends and family in losing the dog felt unconditional. In the past, condolences over lost love always felt tinged by blame, as if I could have chosen more prudently, or behaved better.

The irony is that in suing my ex for custody of Bhoga, I couldn’t have behaved worse — at least as far as my ex was concerned. I learned that in love, selfishness can be as important as selflessness, about knowing what you need and holding onto it — even if that sometimes means hurting someone else. In keeping that dog, I was assuring my most secure relationship, one which allowed me to love myself, and, in time, others.
