Kalapaki Catamaran Sunset Cruise

Join the legendary Kauai Beach Boys aboard their new 50′ catamaran on a scenic and relaxing sunset cruise of the historically significant areas of Kalapaki Bay, Nawiliwili, Haupu Mountain Range, Hulei’a River and Ninini Point.  When the ocean is calm we cruise the waters beyond Nawiliwili Bay where sightings of dolphins, turtles and North Pacific Humpback Whales (December – March) are likely.  The Hulei’a River is where we visit the historic Alekoko Menehune Fish Pond as well as the Hulei’a National Wildlife Refuge.  You will learn about some of the famous movies that were filmed in the area.  Relax and unwind as you drift away into the fading sun while sipping tropical cocktails and enjoy a pleasant evening tour with friends and family.

What to Bring

A light jacket or sweatshirt is recommended especially during the winter months, plus a hat, sunglasses and camera.  Although our vessel is extremely stable, if you are prone to seasickness, we recommend taking seasick medicine an hour prior to boarding the vessel.

Cruise Itinerary varies depending on ocean and weather conditions.  A portion of all ticket sales is donated to the National Wildlife Refuge in support of their ongoing restoration efforts in the Hulei’a Valley.  USCG Certified for up to 49 passengers.

My family and I have hosted two parties (a birthday and a going away party) on the Kalapaki Kai II with Kamal and his stellar Kauai Beach Boy crew and both events were exceptional! The boat is spacious and comfortable, with a bar and an area for serving food as well as clean and easy to use bathrooms. The spacious open design provided room to mingle and dance during a light sprinkle of rain as we cruised the river with lush jungle on each side of us and the stunning mountain range towering over head. The evening light made for awesome photos and fond memories that will last a lifetime.

We took the sunset cruise for my mother's birthday and we all loved it! The captain and first mate were so nice and knowledgeable. It was great to hear the history of the hotel where we were staying (Marriott) and Kauai. The greenery and waters were beautiful and calming. The open bar included cocktails and an assortment of beers, as well as locally brewed beers.

We've been coming here to the Marriott for 22 years and we were excited about this new offering. My family and I went on the boat tour and it was awesome! It was a beautiful evening with a mid sized party. Louie and Jason were really cool, laid back, congenial and professional guys. Jason's drinks were killer and well balanced. It was a beautiful and fun experience.

My husband and I had a wonderful time on the Kalapaki Sunset Tour while on our honeymoon. Our tour guides were Louie and Jay. They made the tour an absolute blast with their wonderful, friendly energy and knowledge of the area. It was a perfect pay to start our trip cruising through the beautiful landscape around Kalapaki. Highly recommend this excursion. For those that want to experience a boat ride, but don’t do well on waves this one’s for you!. Awesome sunsets, drinks and simple local appetizers. Guides were polite and informative.

We had the best time ever. The Captain and Bartender were absolutely top of the line. We enjoyed the boat, the staff, and the views. Drinks were great!! It was lovely!! Smooth sailing down the river. I would highly recommend.

This was a very fun relaxing sunset cruise down a river with some narration about the island. forget name of driver but he's a local and knows a lot! Eric was the bartender and made great drinks. Some snacks were provided but don't go on a booze cruise with an empty stomach. Unfortunately no sunset as you are on the East side of the island but still a lovely time on the water. You do see some amazing cloud formations with sun setting behind the mountain. I highly recommend.

This was the first time my wife and I took a sunset cruise in Kauai. It was excellent. Louie and Erric were terrific hosts and very informative about the various sites/views we encountered.

Nice alternative option for an open water excursion for those who have motion sickness issues. A very nice leisurely ride up river with a wonderful and knowledgeable staff about the history of the region. Drinks are included in the price and are more than generous to your needs , but without the Frat party environment. Great trip for the whole family or just friends and couples. Very light snacks included (Peanuts & Potato Chips) so recommend to eat before hand as this is not a drink and appetizers excursion. Local small Family owned boat that is giving visitors an alternative option to experience the waterways and beauty of Kauai that can’t be reached by car without the potential worry of feeling queasy. Great value, especially considering the other water excursions alternatives.

The Na Pali Dinner Sunset Sail is our premier "dinner with a view" experience. Sunsets at sea, viewed from the Star are spectacular. Passengers will enjoy a panoramic view of the entire coastline from Haena to Milolii, with the "forbidden" island of Ni'ihau in the distance. Each day is unique, as the light reacts with clouds and landscapes. Rainbows frequently add color to the distant mountains.

The sail starts with a short briefing and introduction as we depart from Port Allen and head West, then North and upwind on the Na Pali (depending on the conditions).

Meanwhile our team of onboard chefs will get busy preparing the fresh meal. Unlike other charter boats, The Star is equipped with a full galley (kitchen) and bar. This means that the meal can be prepared fresh onboard instead of the standard practice of pre-cooking food.

On most days the Hawaiian tradewinds are blowing from the East, which makes for a perfect downwind sail once we reach our turnaround point. The crew's objective on this sail is to position the boat for a calm, downwind sail during dinner service. Once we reach our turnaround, the crew will power down the boat's twin diesels and hoist the massive mainsail and jib. Now you're set up for some sailing, relaxing and yummy food.

We time the sail to pull in at Port Allen near dusk, our goal is to return you to shore safe, happy and full.

This is the best deal in Waikiki. Was there for a week and went on this cruise three times. ~$30 for one hour sail with open bar. So, you can sit in a hotel bar and nurse one drink or be on the ocean enjoying amazing views, listen to lively music and chug down multiple drinks. No brainer. CANCELLATION POLICY

Guests will receive a full refund only with a minimum 24-hour notice of cancellation. Full refunds are also issued in case of operator cancellation due to weather or other unforeseen circumstances.

During the slower seasons and typically the morning sails, tour cancellations can occur due to a minimum requirement of 6 booked guests. In these rare situations, guests are always given the option to rebook or refund. If you are concerned about your tour, please call with any questions.

Guests wishing to rebook or reschedule must give 24 hours notice. Contact us by phone directly to cancel or inquire about a cancellation. No-shows and guests canceling within 24 hours of departure will be charged full price .*Groups of 20 or larger are required to give 72-hour notice to cancel or modify bookings.

The boat itself was nice and the crew were lovely. Thankfully there was a place to hide slightly from the waves but it's also where the sea sickness gets really bad. My 14 son started to not feel well then a lady across ... from him got sick so that didn't help. When they say it's an "adventure and you WILL get wet" they aren't lying. There were huge ups and downs and everyone was soaked. The food was good and again the crew was lovely. Definitly not a "smooth dinner cruise"

Consider taking an over the counter motion sickness preventative before your cruise if you are worried about sea sickness. Ocean conditions can be unpredictable and may turn rough; this activity may not be suitable for all travelers.

What should I wear on the boat?

Comfortable clothing is recommended. It can get somewhat cool out at sea, so you may also want to bring a sweatshirt or light jacket. Please be aware that your clothing may get wet due to splashing sea water or light rain. Note that this is a bare-foot sail, so you will need to remove your shoes prior to boarding. Exceptions will be made at the captain's discretion.

Classic Feadship motor yacht Calypso newly for sale

The 38.4-metre Feadship motor yacht Calypso is newly listed for sale with Andrew LeBuhn and Randy Weir of Camper & Nicholsons .

Delivered in 1978, Calypso was built in steel and aluminium by Dutch superyacht yard Feadship to a design by De Voogt Naval Architects . She has undergone extensive refit periods since 2016, particularly in 2016 through to 2017 and most recently in 2019, and boasts an impressive, near 50-year history. 

Designed as a venue to entertain clients and host lavish parties, Calypso was originally commissioned for automotive millionaire E. Clayton Gengras. The yacht then fell into the hands of Malcolm Forbes, who was said to host royalty and Hollywood icons including Prince Charles, Elizabeth Taylor, and Henry Kissinger. In the early 2000s, Calypso added another string to her bow and was transformed into a family-owned yacht, working closely with National Geographic during remote explorations to conduct scientific research. 

The current and former owners have gone to great efforts to maintain the original Feadship aesthetics and feel while integrating the latest technology. The forward main dining room has been converted into the master cabin, while what was the full-beam lower deck master is now a VIP suite.

Accommodation is now for up to 11 guests in five cabins comprising a master suite, two cabins with queen beds, and a cabin with twin beds plus a Pullman berth. A sixth "Harry Potter" cabin adds a cosy charm and is an option for an additional guest or crew member.

The main saloon is bright and airy with oversized windows allowing for plenty of natural light. An inviting white L-shaped sofa, upholstered swivel chairs and ivory carpeting create an idyllic space to relax and enjoy the yacht's ambience. Rich teak wooden cabinetry is displayed throughout the for additional warmth, while the entertainment centre includes a 55-inch flatscreen television set.

The broker also noted that the large owner’s study "can easily be converted into a theatre, gym, massage area, or spa" should the owner wish.

With hosting in Calypso 's DNA, the yacht for sale has several outdoor highlights – including a Jacuzzi flanked by sunpads, barbecue, sun loungers, an alfresco, 12-person dining table and a 120-inch cinema screen. The upper deck offers panoramic views and is located under removable awnings, while a state-of-the-art audiovisual system ensures guests can enjoy entertainment across interior and exterior spaces.

With power coming from a pair of Caterpillar 600hp engines, Calypso' s top speed is 13 knots and she boasts an extensive cruising range of 3,200 nautical miles.

For added comfort and safety, she is fitted with zero-speed stabilisers.
