Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour concert film is getting a UK release: here’s where you can watch it

Taylor’s biggest tour yet is coming to a cinema near you

Ed Cunningham

UK Swifties, it really looked like you might miss out on Taylor’s Eras tour film. Back when the cinematic-spectacle-to-be was announced a few weeks ago, Swift didn’t specify whether the film would be getting a UK release – instead, she only detailed a US and North American release date.

But today (September 26), there’s been some very good news. Taylor’s Eras tour film is getting a proper worldwide release, meaning that we’ll all get a hint of what these shows have been like a whole eight months before the tour itself arrives on UK shores .

The concert movie (officially titled ‘Taylor Swift The Eras Tour’) was apparently recorded over three nights of Swift’s Eras tour at the SoFi stadium in California back in August. Swift’s fourth concert film, it was directed by Sam Wrench and will have a 165-minute runtime. Here’s everything you need to know about going to a screening of it in the UK.

When is Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour film getting released in the UK?

The UK release date is the same day the film will be shown all over the world: October 13.

Which cinemas in the UK are showing Taylor Swift’s Eras film?

Pretty much all of them! You can find a nearby cinema showing the film either on official cinema websites or on Taylor Swift’s official website here , which identifies nearby showings.

Big chains like Odeon, Vue, Everyman, Reel Cinemas, Empire and the BFI are all showing the film.

How much are tickets to Taylor Swift’s Eras movie?

Tickets vary a lot depending on the cinema, though expect to pay between £13 and £19 for a standard ticket.

Taylor Swift's Eras Tour film is coming to the UK - here's how to get tickets

Taylor Swift's record-breaking Eras Tour will be shown in cinemas from October.

Tuesday 26 September 2023 14:27, UK

Attention Swifties - the Taylor Swift Eras Tour film is coming to the UK.

The film was announced in August but it was only scheduled to play in the US.

However, UK fans of the pop megastar can now enjoy the movie here too.

Announcing the film, Swift said: "The Eras Tour has been the most meaningful, electric experience of my life so far and I'm overjoyed to tell you that it'll be coming to the big screen soon."

The Eras Tour was attended by more than three million fans during the first leg of its US run.

Shows in the US sold out almost instantly when they went on sale, despite multiple dates in almost every corner of the country.

That's despite chaos at Ticketmaster , with fans saying they were repeatedly kicked off the site , left waiting hours in queues, and in some cases, had their tickets cancelled.

AMC Theatres has ramped up its capacity for ticket sales in response.

"AMC has bolstered its ticket server capacity to handle traffic at more than five times the current record for the most ever tickets sold in an hour," it said.

How can you get tickets and when is it being released?

The film will be shown at all ODEON cinemas in the UK so head to their website to grab your seats.

The release date is 13 October but you can book from now - tickets are about £20 each.

You may need to queue to get on to the website, as there seemed to be heavy traffic shortly after the announcement...

Be prepared to get into full Swift mode, because she star encourages people to go all out.

"Eras attire, friendship bracelets, singing and dancing encouraged 1, 2, 3 LGB!!!! (iykyk)."

A storm delayed a Taylor Swift concert in Nashville, Tennessee forcing fans to take shelter from rain and lightning. Attendees sang songs as they waited for the go-ahead to take their seats.

The Eras Tour started in the US in March, wrapping up at the start of August before the star headed to Central and South America, ending in Brazil in November.

Following a break, the star will pick up the shows in Japan in February 2024, moving to Australia and Singapore before the European leg gets under way in Paris in May 2024.

Swift's UK gigs take place in June 2024, starting in Edinburgh and ending in London.

UK cinemas will screen Taylor Swift's Eras tour next month, giving Swifties who missed out on concert tickets the opportunity to experience the next best thing.

Cameras have already been closely following the 'Blank Space' singer as her highly-anticipated tour kicked off in March.

And in October, fans will be able to watch a film version of the show in UK cinemas.

Vue International and Odeon made the announcement on Tuesday, which was followed by a post on Instagram by Taylor Swift herself.

“The tour isn’t the only thing we’re taking worldwide…", she teased readers.

"Been so excited to tell you all that The Eras Tour concert film is now officially coming to theatres worldwide on Oct 13.”

Cinema chain, AMC Theatres Distribution, said when it announced the concert film for US audiences in August, the run beat the company’s “record for the highest ticket-sales revenue during a single day in AMC’s 103-year history”.

Tim Richards, chief executive and founder of Vue International, said: “As part of our growing programme of event cinema, we are delighted to be screening Taylor Swift’s sold-out Eras tour.

“Since our first event working with (Sir) Brian May and Queen in 2005 to one of the first live concerts ever working with Genesis in 2007, we have screened a wide range of cultural and sporting events.

“Vue’s unparalleled screen, seat and sound experience will truly bring Taylor Swift’s Eras tour show to life and – for many people across the UK – this will be the most accessible and affordable way to enjoy Taylor’s live performances."

Earlier this year many fans struggled to secure tickets, with Ticketmaster previously asking fans to be patient as “millions” tried to buy seats in the US, causing “historically unprecedented demand”.

But the site eventually crashed , and the provider said it did not have enough tickets.

An estimated 750,076 tickets are available for the UK tour but 2.9 million UK-based fans were predicted to buy one, based on Ticketmaster's US data, Buzz Bingo said.

This summer the release of Barbie and Oppenheimer on the same day saw a surge in cinemagoers.

Mr Richards said: "From Barbenheimer to Gentleminions, we’ve recently seen huge cultural phenomenon driven by the shared experience of cinema, and we look forward to welcoming all the ‘Swifties’ to our screens.”

More than 7,500 theatres globally will show the Swift tour film beginning on October 13.

In June, Swift announced a host of international dates for her Eras Tour, including shows in Edinburgh, Liverpool, Cardiff and London.

The UK and Ireland leg of the tour will start in Edinburgh with three shows at Murrayfield Stadium on June 7, 8 and 9, 2024, before she heads to Liverpool’s Anfield stadium for June 13, 14 and 15.

Cardiff’s Principality Stadium follows on June 18 before three dates in London’s Wembley Stadium on June 21, 22 and 23.

She will then play dates in Dublin, Amsterdam, Switzerland, Italy, Germany, Poland and Austria before returning to Wembley to close the international dates on August 15, 16 and 17.

Good news, UK Swifties, it’s now just one week until Taylor Swift brings her Eras Tour concert film across the pond.

And today, the film has become a box office blockbuster before it has even hit cinemas. According to its distributor AMC, global advance ticket sales have topped $100m (£82m). It added that demand “has been incredible from the moment it was first announced”.

It already has the highest one-day sales in less than 24 hours, and has overtaken Justin Bieber’s Never Say Never as the most profitable concert film in history. Never Say Never made $99m (£81m) in 2011.

AMC is also distributing the movie of Beyoncé’s Renaissance tour, which is set to be released in December.

Cinema operators in the UK are “licking their lips” at the news of these releases, said Michael Field, European equity strategist at Morningstar.

They “are desperately searching for the next big thing to drive revenue growth, after the success of Barbie and Oppenheimer movies this summer,” he added.

The film will first be screened on Friday, October 13, at cinemas across the UK (as well as 100 other countries) and, just like the tour itself , fans have to act quickly if they want in.

Tickets for the concert film are on sale now, with prices ranging from £13.13 to £19.89 depending on the cinema chain (referring to Swift’s fifth studio album title and her lucky number).

Announcing the news on Twitter, the Cruel Summer singer said: “The tour isn’t the only thing we’re taking worldwide……..

“Been so excited to tell you all that The Eras Tour concert film is now officially coming to theatres WORLDWIDE on Oct 13!”

The Eras Tour concert film was announced on August 31 , initially being released in the US.

It took less than 24 hours for the film to break AMC’s US record for the highest ticket sales revenue during a single day in its 103-year history.

The concert film will be screened at major cinema chains like Odeon and Vue , as well as independent cinemas.

FILES-US-ENTERTAINMENT-MUSIC-SWIFT-FILM

Toby Bradon, general manager for Vue UK and Ireland, said: “While summer was all about the ‘Barbenheimer’ phenomenon, it looks as if autumn is set to be dominated by Taylor-mania — and we couldn’t be happier.

“It’s been brilliant to see the growing buzz since Taylor Swift’s announcement just last month and we’re thrilled to call Vue the home of the Eras Tour, with venues up and down the country holding multi-screenings of what is set to be one of the biggest events of the year.”

So Swifties, don your friendship bracelets and get down to your local cinema to experience the Eras Tour for yourself.

Taylor Swift: Eras tour concert film to get global release in October

Film will play in more than 100 countries including the UK from 13 October, in line with its previously announced US, Canada and Mexico release

Eight months before the real thing is due to hit the UK , the concert film of Taylor Swift ’s behemoth Eras tour will screen in British cinemas this October.

Taylor Swift The Eras Tour will play in more than 100 countries from 13 October, the same day as its previously announced US, Canada and Mexico release.

The film was recorded over the first three of six nights that Swift played at the SoFi stadium in California in August. In its first day of US presales, it amassed a record $37m (£30.3m).

It is directed by Sam Wrench , who previously directed concert films for Billie Eilish and Lizzo, and produced independently by Taylor Swift Productions.

The film’s run time is 165 minutes, and so presumably will not contain the entirety of the Eras tour setlist, which runs to 44 songs and lasts more than three hours. No further details on the film’s contents have been made available.

In the US, adult tickets have been priced at $19.89, in reference to Swift’s upcoming release of the re-recorded version of her 2014 album 1989, and child and senior prices at $13.13, a nod to the 33-year-old songwriter’s lucky number. In the UK, tickets for the concert ranged between £58 for seating and in excess of £660 for the top-tier VIP package.

The Eras Tour movie will be Swift’s fourth concert film, following similar documentations of her albums Fearless, 1989 and Reputation, and a film of the only concert she gave to promote her 2019 album Lover, the planned tour for which was scuppered by the pandemic.

In 2020, Swift released Miss Americana , a behind-the-scenes documentary directed by Lana Wilson that spanned 2018 to 2019 and saw Swift finding her political voice, addressing her experiences with body dysmorphia and an eating disorder, and her mother’s cancer diagnosis.

Swift is making her own feature directing debut for Searchlight Pictures. No further details have been made available. Swift has directed or co-directed all of her music videos since 2019’s Me!

The Eras tour will be in the UK for a sold-out run of shows in June 2024, starting in Edinburgh. The ticket sales were less frantic than in the US, where Ticketmaster’s practices spurred a government antitrust hearing , although many fans reported frustration at an opaque system that did not reveal ticket prices until the purchaser reached checkout and had 90 seconds to decide on whether to proceed.

Taylor Swift ’s Eras Tour concert film will be broadcast in the UK and around the world, in a move expected to provide a huge boost to ailing cinemas .

In August, Swift – who recently completed the first US leg of her album-spanning world tour – announced that she was releasing a new concert film .

Describing the tour as “the most meaningful, electric experience of my life so far”, Swift shared that the film would be released in AMC cinemas in the US on 13 October.

Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour smashed records for the cinema chain , making a whopping  $26m (£20.6m) in ticket revenue on its first day of presales alone. Across all theatre chains in the US, the film made a reported $37m (£29.4m) in first-day ticket presales.

Fans around the world, meanwhile, shared their frustration that the film was yet to receive a worldwide release date.

On Tuesday (26 September), however, Swift shared the news that the film will be released in more than 100 countries.

This includes the UK and Europe, where The Eras Tour film will play at every Odeon cinemas location.

“The tour isn’t the only thing we’re taking worldwide……..” she wrote. “Been so excited to tell you all that The Eras Tour concert film is now officially coming to theatres WORLDWIDE on Oct 13!”

The concert film will open in most countries on 13 October, with 13 other countries following on 3 November. You can find tickets here .

When the film by the “Love Story” singer was announced in the US last month, it blew past the AMC’s previous record for single-day presales in just three hours. This was previously held by Spider-Man: No Way Home , which made $16.9m (£13.8m) in first-day ticket presales.

The US cinema chain said that Swift’s film will play at every one of its locations in the country at least four times a day on Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday upon opening.

“In anticipation of this announcement, AMC has upgraded its website and ticketing engines to handle more than five times the largest influx of ticket-buying traffic the company has ever experienced before,” it said.

“But AMC is also aware that no ticketing system in history seems to have been able to accommodate the soaring demand from Taylor Swift fans when tickets are first placed on sale.”

Swift will play nine more dates of her Eras Tour in the US between October and November.

The international leg of the tour kicks off later that month, with Swift performing in Europe in May 2024. Her shows in the UK and Ireland begin in June, before Swift heads back across Europe in July. She returns to the UK for three additional shows in London’s Wembley Stadium in August.

Shot during her first three shows in LA in August , around 500,000 fans were in attendance at SoFi stadium when Taylor belted out her hits.

Taylor last toured the UK back in 2018, so these dates are highly anticipated by fans.

The singer's next album, 1989 (Taylor's Version) , is due for release on October 27 and could extend her hot streak of Official Albums Chart Number 1s. She already has 10 UK Number 1 albums to her name – more than any female artist bar Madonna , who has 12.

Swift attended the premiere of the film in Los Angeles last week, where the audience screamed, sang and danced throughout the near three-hour run time, and the BBC reports that, in the UK, fans are encouraged to join in with the music on screen.

An Odeon spokesperson told the BBC said Swifties could “absolutely celebrate by singing and dancing” during the film, while Cineworld said fans were welcome to “shake it off and dance along”, but must leave “confetti and glitter” at home.

The film, which was shot over the course of three concerts in Los Angeles’ SoFi Stadium in August, surpassed $100m in pre-sales a week before release, and opened a day early in North America due to “unprecedented demand.” Critics have been quick to praise the slicky produced film, congratulating Swift for giving her fans a close-up seat at her record-breaking live show, which features more than 40 songs from ten albums selected from Swift’s singularly successful 17-year career.

Following huge demand across the globe, the pop star announced in August she would screen a concert film of the tour in cinemas. “Eras attire, friendship bracelets, singing and dancing encouraged,” Swift wrote in the announcement post.
