The first trip we limited out on Snapper, on the second trip we limited out on shark, and a had a few other fish as well... at the end of the trip the crew will pass a bucket for tips. On other outfitters I have tipped 20% of the cost of the trip. It's not required but I highly recommend that you budget for it. The crew works very hard and I would say they deserve it.

Yep. All our trips are regulated by Texas Parks and Wildlife and NOAA .

• A Texas saltwater fishing license is required for each person over the age of 16.
• Sunblock, sunglasses, and a hat.
• All the food you’ll need for the day. Our only rule: no bananas!
• Anything you want to drink. We recommend some waters along with the beers.
• Comfortable shoes -- tennis shoes or flip flops are fine. No black soles, no boots. We go barefoot!
• A waterproof pouch for your phone in case the water gets rough when you’re trying to snap a picture.
• Comfortable life jackets (puddle jumpers) for your kids. Kids on a boat under 31’ long need to wear a life jacket while onboard, and while we do have some, they’re not as comfortable as what you can get elsewhere!

Mahi Mahi, Blue and White Marlin, Tunas and Amberjacks can be found widely. You will also be targeting Wahoo, Mackerel, Cobia, Grouper, Jack Crevalle, Rainbow Runner and everyone’s favorite Red Snapper, depending on the season. Here’s a basic monthly guide to what we catch when:

• June 1 - August 1: Snapper season! Plus everything else except Amberjack.
• July 15 - September: Snapper season closes Aug 1, so shrimp boats come in, and we’ll start getting Kingfish, Ling, Wahoo, and Blackfin Tuna.
• September & October: Amberjack opens again.
• November-February: Usually Wahoo, Kingfish, and Makos. Makos like the cold weather, from January through March.
• March-April: Kingfish, Sharks, Wahoo, and state water fish.
• May: Amberjack season, plus all others.

We do take a credit card number at the time of booking to hold your spot, but we prefer cash or checks at the dock on the morning of your trip. We add a 4% fee to all credit card payments. When you book online, your credit card will be required to secure your trip date. The credit card won't be automatically billed unless it is related to a no-show or cancelation fewer than 14 days from the trip date. See cancellation policy for more details.

Please bring extra cash to show your appreciation for your crew after the trip!

We expect respect from everyone and give the same in return. If something comes up, give us a call. If the weather is looking bad, we’ll call you and talk through options. All cancellations made 14 days in advance will be refunded 100%.

If you cancel fewer than 14-days before your trip date, the credit card on file will be charged for the trip deposit ($500). If you do not show up on the day of your trip, the credit card on file will be charged for the total trip cost.

Lancaster Sportfishing specializes in offshore fishing excursions out of Port Aransas and Aransas Pass, Texas.

Capt. Jay Lancaster has been a Licensed Captain for over 47 years and puts special emphasis in making sure his customers have a safe and enjoyable fishing trip.   

Our boat, "EL CUCUY", closest translation, Boogie man, is a 42 foot Bertram powered by two 450 horse power Cummins diesel engines with an average cruising speed 0f approximately 21 knots. This is a comfortable boat that features a large air conditioned cabin with galley and full size head. There is plenty of seating including seating on the bridge.  

Our trips are for up to 6 passengers per USCG regulations.

All fuel, bait, ice and tackle is included, so all you need to bring is an ice chest with your food and drinks.

6-hour trips are popular during the early summer months during the federal Red Snapper season. King Mackerel and other types of fish are typically found closer to shore during this time of year making It possible to run a shorter trip. No hidden charges. All fuel, bait, ice, and tackle are included in the price. 

8 HR Offshore Fishing Trip.    $2750

8-hour trips are our most popular throughout the summer and early Fall. These trips typically take you out up to 35 miles. Several species are targeted with King Mackerel usually being the most often caught. Other types of fish you might catch are Mahi Mahi, Blackfin Tuna, Cobia, Bonito, and several species of shark. Most sharks are catch and release. Red Snapper is targeted during the federal Red Snapper season. No hidden charges. All Fuel, bait, ice, and tackle is included in the price.

Our tuna fishing charters targets yellowfin tuna off the coast of port aransas..

Spend 2 nights  offshore fishing the deep-water rigs in the Gulf of Mexico . Targeting  Yellowfin Tuna  under the lights using live or dead baits, artificial flying fish, jigs, and surface poppers.

Other species targeted while either drifting at the deep-water rigs or trolling in the blue water include Dorado, Blackfin Tuna, Wahoo, Barracuda, Mako Shark and other shark species. Even the occasional Blue Marlin is not uncommon on this trip.

I f you find yourself longing for sun, sand, and surf, the Texas coastal town of Port Aransas should definitely be on your list! Located just south of Corpus Christi on Mustang Island, Port Aransas welcomes visitors of all ages year-round thanks to its beautiful beaches, tantalizing seafood, and amazing wildlife encounters.

Port Aransas is centered around the beautiful waters of the Gulf of Mexico, allowing visitors endless opportunities to relax and connect with nature. Whether you want to build sandcastles on the beach or prefer a day of adrenaline-dumping deep-sea fishing, Port Aransas has you covered.

As a native Texan, I have visited Port Aransas my entire life. There are so many fun things to do in Port Aransas, Texas, that you will surely find something you love. That’s why I am so excited to share my list of the best things to do in Port Aransas, Texas, with you!

1. Mustang Island State Park

Head just south of Port Aransas to the southern end of Mustang Island to find one of my favorite state parks in Texas, Mustang Island State Park . 

The fact that Mustang Island State Park is located on a barrier island guarantees that you are in for a fun and unique experience when you visit. Take time to roam the beaches, combing for sand dollars before trying deep-sea fishing. I love that the size of Mustang Island State Park makes it easy to find a section of the beach all to yourself. Of course, the park is magical at sunrise and sunset, so find your favorite spot on the beach or sand dunes, and enjoy all that Mother Nature has to offer when you visit.

In addition to the fabulous surf and sand, the park also offers numerous amenities for guests to enjoy. The park’s campsites with electricity include a shade shelter, picnic table, outdoor grill, and water and electricity hookups. If you prefer a more primitive experience, Mustang Island State Park offers 50 campsites spread out over 1.5 miles of beach.

2. Aransas National Wildlife Refuge

If you enjoy bird watching, you will love visiting the Aransas National Wildlife Refuge . Best known as the winter refuge for the endangered whooping cranes, the Aransas National Wildlife Refuge provides a safe haven for numerous species of birds and reptiles. 

The preservation boasts a diverse landscape that includes grasslands, sand dunes, and beaches. This diverse terrain makes the refuge a great place to see waterfowl, alligators, lizards, turtles, and more. In addition to wildlife viewing, Aransas National Wildlife Refuge visitors can enjoy hiking and fishing on the property.

3. Port Aransas Beach

Port Aransas Beach is one of my favorite beaches in Texas. This 6-mile stretch of sand lasts forever and is the perfect place to enjoy a day at the beach while visiting the Texas Gulf Coast. 

While at Port Aransas Beach, I prefer to just relax in a beach chair while watching the waves roll in. If you prefer a more active day at the beach, you can enjoy windsurfing, boogie boarding, fishing, or riding Jet Skis during your visit. 

One of my favorite things about Port Aransas Beach is that you can drive your vehicle onto the sand! After purchasing a beach parking permit from City Hall, beachgoers can drive onto the sand and park their vehicles between markers 0 and 62. There is a small amount of free beach parking between Pier 52 and 58.

4. Texas Sandfest

The Texas Sandfest is an annual sandcastle-building competition on Port Aransas Beach. This fun festival welcomes guests and artists to the sunny shores of Port Aransas. The 3-day competition includes both amateur and master sand sculptors, all showcasing their skills and artistry for the live crowd.

Of course, it wouldn’t be a festival without great live music and delicious fair-style food; luckily, the Texas Sandfest includes all that. See the sculptors crafting their sand creations before visiting the many food and merchandise vendors and checking out the live music. 

The Texas Sandfest closes on Sunday afternoon with a fun award ceremony celebrating the artists’ works. I am always so amazed at the talent of the artists during the Texas Sandfest. We have seen sand sculptures depicting everything from incredibly detailed castles to fun and quirky animals. Every year, the artists at the Texas Sandfest deliver unique, quality sand art pieces, making this festival one of my favorite things to do in Port Aransas, Texas.

5. Deep-Sea Fishing

Anglers love to hit the waters of the Gulf of Mexico while visiting Port Aransas, thanks to the abundance of marine life that calls the area home. Numerous group and private charters are available for the perfect day of fishing on the Gulf’s waters. To top off your fishing adventure, take your catch of the day to one of the many restaurants in town that are happy to cook it for you. You get to enjoy a fun day of fishing and you might catch yourself some dinner as well.

6. Leonabelle Turnbull Birding Center

The Leonabelle Turnbull Birding Center is an incredible place to spend time bird watching during your visit to Port Aransas. Every year, numerous species of migrating birds go to the Leonabelle Turnbull Birding Center to rest in the incredible marshland found there. Some species that birders enjoy spotting here include osprey, peregrine falcons, and spoonbills, making the Leonabelle Turnbull Birding Center a great place to spend a quiet afternoon.

7. Port Aransas Museum

A visit to the Port Aransas Museum should be on everyone’s list of things to do in Port Aransas, Texas. Not only can you learn about the island’s history, but you can also see a building that was listed as one of the most endangered structures in the state. The Port Aransas Museum is housed in a 20th-century kit house that was listed as endangered due to the low number of these buildings still intact. The structure was donated to the Port Aransas Preservation and Historical Society in 2007 and turned into the Port Aransas Museum.

Inside, you will find photographs, artifacts, and documents that tell the story of this small Texas town. The museum is relatively small and doesn’t take very long to visit, so don’t miss the opportunity to learn more about the Port Aransas community during your time here. 

8. Port Aransas Nature Preserve

Photographers will love visiting the Port Aransas Nature Preserve thanks to the beautiful boardwalk that lets you get up close and personal with the area’s nature and wildlife. The Port Aransas Nature Preserve boardwalk was carefully constructed over a wetland preserve that welcomes birds and reptiles throughout the year. 

9. Port Aransas Community Theatre 

Port Aransas is more than just a beach town; it is also a great place to enjoy some live theater during your vacation, thanks to the Port Aransas Community Theatre .

Created over 25 years ago, the Port Aransas Community Theatre offers live performances in this beachside town. These performances include everything from live theater to nights of music. The University of Texas Marine Science Institute was founded in 1892 and is considered one of the most prestigious marine research facilities in the United States. During your time in Port Aransas, don’t miss the opportunity to visit the institute to learn more about the important research conducted here.

During your time at the Texas Marine Science Institute, you can learn about the history of the institute and its research by visiting the property’s public museum. In addition, there are also numerous aquarium exhibits highlighting marine life from many different ecosystems.

Sea Turtle Nesting Season in Port Aransas

The turtles are coming ashore.

It's that time of year again when sea turtles leave thier wet world behind and head for dry land. Making the journey to shore all in an effort to lay their eggs in a safe location. You can help protect these critters by doing your part to help detect and protect sea turtles coming ashore to lay their eggs.

Nesting Facts

Turtle nesting season runs from early April to mid-July.

Three kinds of sea turtles are commonly found in Texas waters: Kemp's Ridley, Green, and Loggerhead.

Kemp’s ridleys nest in arribadas, meaning they all come in to nest at once. During an "arribada," large groups of females gather offshore and come onto the beach to nest in large numbers, generally over several hours.

Turtles make two-foot wide tracks that look like check marks with a drag mark in the middle.

Kemp's Ridley turtles, the world's most endangered sea turtle, nest in the western Gulf of Mexico.

Sea turtles lay their eggs in a nest they dig in the sand with their rear flippers. The group of eggs is called a clutch.

Most sea turtles nest at night. Kemp’s ridleys are the only sea turtles that routinely nest during the day. 

They usually lay 100-125 eggs per nest and will nest multiple times, about two weeks apart, over several months.

The sex of sea turtles, like many other turtles, is determined by the temperature in the nest. Cooler incubation temperatures produce male hatchlings and warmer incubation temperatures produce female hatchlings.

To help ensure the survival of nesting sea turtles and eggs, biologists, and volunteers will patrol Texas beaches from April through July.
