The latest book by megachurch pastor Joel Osteen continues selling millions of copies even though a book tour promoting it ended at Cincinnati's Joseph-Beth Booksellers store Thursday night.

Every Day a Friday: How to be Happier 7 Days a Week  debuted in September to strong sales. The book shares Osteen's secrets for enjoying every day as it comes and living one's life to the fullest. It debuted at No. 1 on the New York Times' advice, how-to and miscellaneous bestsellers list for hard covers, and currently stands at No. 2.

It marks the third successful book for the popular pastor of Houston's Lakewood Church – America’s largest church. Osteen made his publishing debut in 2004 with Your Best Life Now: 7 Steps to Living at Your Full Potential  before following it with 2007's Become a Better You: 7 Keys to Improving Your Life Every Day . Both works also landed on the New York Times bestsellers list.

Penny Alder-Jusko, a long-time Osteen reader who attended his Cincinnati book signing event last night, said such success isn't surprising given the pastor's positivity. She said his mix of inspirational testimony and sunny demeanor makes him a natural fit for mainstream success.

"Joel is very genuine," Alder-Jusko said. "He could be my neighbor. I think this is the best book he's written."

Diane Reed, another attendee of the Cincinnati book signing event, said she originally encountered Osteen through his television broadcasts. Every Day a Friday  was the first Osteen book she has read, and it helped her with her bipolar disorder, she shared to The Christian Post. Only five chapters deep, she said she was hooked.

"Once I started one chapter, I couldn't stop myself," Reed said. "I realize now I can look at every day differently than what I have been. Each one is a superb blessing. It has made an immediate difference."

Osteen also visited bookstores in New York, New Jersey, Albuquerque, Dallas, San Antonio, Atlanta, Birmingham and D.C. before stopping in Cincinnati. He'll appear again in Cincinnati tonight, making a stop on his "Night of Hope" tour at the city's U.S. Bank Arena. The tour is a monthly event that mixes Osteen's ministry with praise music at arenas all across America.

Reed and Alder-Jusko each said they're attending tonight's tour stop. Both women said Osteen’s work had profoundly changed the way they approached their everyday lives.

"I have learned a lot from Joel," Alder-Jusko said. "I work so hard to make sure everyone is OK but I need to focus on God instead. That's what matters."

"Good things happen to me every day but I haven't always appreciated them," Reed added. "Faith can carry you through no matter the circumstances. This book is a true blessing from God."

But not everyone views Osteen's feel-good, think-positive message as a God-send. In his Oct. 26 opinion piece, "Does Joel Osteen Not Know, or Not Care?" evangelical cultural commentator Dr. R. Albert Mohler, Jr., criticized Osteen for his secularism and biblically questionable teaching.

"Joel, of course, is proof positive that you can build a crowd without building a church," he wrote. "By now, it is clear Joel Osteen's carelessness is deliberate and calculated. He is not inclined much to deal in theological conviction."

Alder-Jusko, for her part, said that Osteen's themes of kindness and positivity help a world often full of hardship and heartache.

"Joel talks a lot in his new book about how infectious smiling is," she said. "It's true. I'm happy that he wrote a happy book as everyone needs that right now."

As a bishop, author and filmmaker, T.D. Jakes is one of the veteran figures in the business of religion, according to Time. In 1996, he founded a non-denominational American megachurch called The Potter's House in Dallas, Texas with a congregation of over 30,000 members.

He produces faith-based films and television shows that combine his religious ideologies and motivational messages with popular culture. Rick Warren is an author and evangelical Christian pastor who founded the Saddleback Church in Lake Forest, California, in 1980. Formerly part of the Southern Baptist Convention, "the nation's largest Protestant denomination," per Orange County Register, Saddleback was expelled for ordaining female pastors.

In 2008, the church made headlines when it hosted Barack Obama and John McCain for the Saddleback Civil Forum on The Presidency. Obama later asked Warren to speak at his 2009 inauguration.

6. Creflo Dollar, 62

Estimated net worth: us$30 million.

Televangelist pastor Creflo Dollar is the founder of Christian non-denominational, Georgia-based ministry World Changers Church International. He is known for his controversial prosperity theologies that link financial success to divine favour, encouraging adherents to believe that donations will ultimately see them materially rewarded.

The appropriately named Dollar has been widely criticised for his extravagant lifestyle. Not surprisingly, he has constantly refused to publicly disclose details of his wealth, including during a 2007 investigation by the US Senate Finance Committee.

5. Andy Stanley, 65

Estimated net worth: us$40 million-us$45 million.

Andy Stanley is the founder and senior pastor of multiple churches, including North Point Ministries, in the area around Atlanta, Georgia. He is also the son of the late Charles Stanley, who started the First Baptist Church of Atlanta. Not all televangelists are in their 60s or older. Meet founder and senior pastor of the Elevation Church, Steven Furtick. The New York Times bestselling author makes his millions through his work with the church, YouTube videos and book sales. Like others on this list, he refuses to talk about his wealth, though Elevation has clarified that Furtick's salary is set by a board comprised of other megachurch pastors. The Success Bug estimates his net worth to be US$61 million.

3. Benny Hinn, 71

Israeli-born televangelist Benny Hinn is famous for his "Miracle Crusades", faith-healing sermons held in large stadiums and broadcast on television.

He has famously made a number of prophecies over the years that have failed to come true, including the end of homosexuality in the US, and the end of the world in 1992 and 1999.

Like Dollar, Hinn faced the Senate Committee on Finance in 2007 and has also been challenged by Ministry Watch, an independent organisation that reviews the financial accountability and transparency of protestant ministries.

Preacher, televangelist and author Joel Osteen is best known for being the pastor of Lakewood Church, founded by his father in Houston, Texas. Mandisa , a Season 5 Top 10 American Idol competitor who went on to a Grammy-winning career in Christian music, died at her home in Nashville yesterday. She was 47.

Her death was announced by K-Love, the Christian radio network. No cause of death was disclosed.

“Mandisa loved Jesus, and she used her unusually extensive platform to talk about Him at every turn,” said David Pierce, K-Love Chief Media Officer. “Her kindness was epic, her smile electric, her voice massive, but it was no match for the size of her heart.

“Mandisa struggled, and she was vulnerable enough to share that with us, which helped us talk about our own struggles,” Pierce continued. “Mandisa’s struggles are over. Mandisa’s 2013 album Overcomer won a Grammy for Best Contemporary Christian Music Album.

Born Mandisa Hundley and raised in California, Mandisa built a national profile with her participation in 2006 on Season 5 of American Idol . She finished in the season’s Top 10, and the following year released her debut album True Beauty.

Her 2013 album Overcomer would prove to be her signature effort, a popular album with critics and audiences. Overcomer became a Christian radio staple with singles including “Stronger,” “Good Morning (feat. TobyMac)” and “My Deliverer.” The album went on to win the Grammy for Best Contemporary Christian Music Album.  

Over the course of her nearly 20-year recording career, she released five albums and a Christmas compilation.

Information on survivors was not immediately available.
