2024 RBC Heritage leaderboard: Scottie Scheffler nears fourth win in five starts with event to finish Monday
Weather prevented the final round from completing, but scheffler is well on his way to continuing his hot streak.
Scottie Scheffler's fourth victory in his last five tournaments will have to wait one more day. With the 2024 RBC Heritage experiencing more than a 2.5-hour weather delay Sunday, tournament action was unable to be completed before nightfall; it will instead leak into the work week. The final round at Harbour Town Golf Links will resume Monday at 8 a.m. ET with Scheffler holding a five-stroke lead at 20 under.
The world No. 1 is well clear of his nearest pursuer, Wyndham Clark, with three holes left in his tournament. Clark, meanwhile, is in the clubhouse at 15 under hoping for another runner-up check behind Scheffler. Others on the golf course like J.T. Poston, Patrick Cantlay and Sahith Theegala stand at that same number with holes to play.
Monday morning may only be a formality as Scheffler looks to be in control of just about everything -- like he has been the last two months.
Scheffler began Sunday in Hilton Head Island with one arm already slipped in the tartan jacket. Possessing a one-stroke lead, the Texan was crowned by many late Saturday evening despite the bevy of stars who had plans to upend him.
After knocking in a 6-foot par save on the 1st, Scheffler more or less turned those predictions into a reality. Chipping in for eagle on the par-5 2nd from long of the green (his 11th hole-out from off the green this season), Scheffler opened a three-stroke lead on the field and never looked back.
Charges were made by many, including a familiar foe in Clark, but none were that threatening. The reigning U.S. Open champion turned in 7-under 29 and tacked on another birdie on the 11th to get within one of Scheffler, but the pressure of perfection proved too much.
Hitting a tree with his second shot on No. 12, Clark's ball ricocheted out of bounds and led to a double bogey. Another dropped shot came on the following hole and all but secured another near miss from the U.S. Open champion.
Collin Morikawa, Ludvig Åberg, Cantlay and Theegala all hovered on the first page of the leaderboard but never truly threatened. Instead, it was Patrick Rodgers who emerged as Scheffler's greatest threat thanks to an eagle-2 at the turn. A bogey a few holes later put an end to his Cinderella story.
Remaining in the wake of mistakes was a spotless Scheffler at 19 under, four ahead of the field. Turning in 3 under, the steadiest man in the game marched forward with a heavy diet of fairways and greens before a spell of thunderstorms halted his momentum on the par-4 12th.
Inclement weather was all that could stop Scheffler as the 27-year-old returned to the golf course more than two hours later and resumed his round without a hitch. While temperatures cooled and winds freshened, Scheffler was unaffected.
He picked off a birdie on the 13th to push his lead to five before a mud ball on the 15th led to his second finding the water on the par 5. It didn't matter as Scheffler launched a pitching wedge onto the surface, spinning it left and utilizing the slope to access the tucked pin. He avoided what would have been his first dropped shot since the 3rd hole on Thursday with an emphatic par save, and he will sleep easy Sunday night knowing five strokes separate him from the field and three holes separate him from victory.
Rick Gehman, Kyle Porter, Patrick McDonald and Greg DuCharme discuss Scottie Scheffler's hold on the RBC Heritage, Nelly Korda's fifth straight victory and Miles Russell finishing top 25 as a 15 year old. Follow & listen to The First Cut on Apple Podcasts and Spotify .
Play called for evening
The final group is on the green on the par-5 15th meaning they will have three holes to play on Monday. Scottie Scheffler faces a par putt from 10 feet to maintain his five-stroke lead as he stands at 20 under.
Five clear with five to go!
The only thing that can stop him is the sunlight at this rate. Scottie Scheffler adds a birdie on 13 to get to 20 under and five clear of the crew at 15 under. Without the world No. 1 this tournament would be very, very good, but alas they are all fighting for first flight honors it appears.
Conditions are considerably harder for these guys. The wind has switched, it's about 10 degrees cooler and they are racing against the clock. Scottie Scheffler and Sepp Straka make par on No. 12 and head to the par-4 13th. Wyndham Clark posts the clubhouse lead at 15 under, four behind Scheffler.
Let's play ball!
Players are on the golf course and play is set to resume. Scottie Scheffler in the final pairing has about 7.5 holes remaining and one hour until sunset meaning this thing is probably going to leak into Monday unfortunately.
Play to resume at 7 p.m.
Coverage information, play to resume at 6 p.m. et.
The expectation is this thing will be finished today as the range is open and play is set to resume in 40 minutes at 6 p.m. ET. This will leave Scottie Scheffler a couple hours to complete just about seven holes as he left off in the middle of the 12th fairway with a four-stroke lead at 19 under.
Play suspended due to weather
The horn has sounded at 4:28 p.m. ET as a large weather system (with lightning) has engulfed Harbour Town. This comes as Scottie Scheffler stands in the 12th fairway with a four-stroke lead at 19 under over a number of pursuers up ahead of him on the golf course. Players are being brought back into the clubhouse as rules officials make an assessment on when play will return.
Rain comin' down hard
Scheffler turns in 33 with three-stroke lead.
Scheffler lets a chance slide by on the short ninth and will instead settle for a 3-under 33 on his front nine. It was highlighted by his eagle-3 on the par-5 2nd and Scheffler will head to the back side with a three-stroke edge.
Theegala thriving
Theegala cards four 3s in a row to end his front nine and get within four of Scottie Scheffler. Sahith spoke yesterday about how cool it is what Scheffler is currently doing and how it is a motivating factor for someone like him to get better. It's a great perspective and Theegala continues to get better and better, but it may not be enough this week as he is four behind with nine to go.

Tour de Romandie 2024
Swiss stage race acts as a key test and form marker before the Giro d'Italia

Tour de Romandie
- Dates 23 Apr - 28 Apr
- Race Length 657 kms
- Race Category Elite Men
Updated: 23 April 2024
Tour de Romandie 2024 overview
The Tour de Romandie used to be one of the key warm-up races for both the Giro d’Italia and Tour de France due to its abundance of time trialling kilometres and high-altitude climbs. The race started back in 1947, and every year the course traverses the French-speaking Romandie region in the west of the country.
This time around, only a few of the big stars are starting both the Tour de Romandie and Giro d’Italia, namely Julian Alaphilippe (Soudal Quick-Step), Thymen Arensman (Ineos Grenadiers) and Eddie Dunbar (Jayco AlUla). But the teams of UAE Team Emirates , Bora-Hansgrohe and Lidl-Trek are all bringing star-studded rosters to the race.
The defending champion, Adam Yates , will be back to lead UAE Team Emirates, supported by a team including Juan Ayuso and Brandon McNulty , whilst Giulio Ciccone and Tao Geoghegan Hart will continue their respective recoveries in Switzerland. Geoghegan Hart is looking to trend towards becoming a Grand Tour contender once more, whereas Ciccone will be making his first appearance of the season after suffering from saddle sores.
Beginning with a prologue on Tuesday 23 April, the Tour de Romandie will feature one short individual time trial and two summit finishes before the race is decided on Sunday 28 April.

Tour de Romandie 2024 key information
When is the Tour de Romandie 2024? The race will begin on 23 April and conclude on 28 April.
Where does the Tour de Romandie take place? The race takes place in the Romandie region of Switzerland, taking in a prologue, an individual time trial and four road stages over six days.
Who won the Tour de Romandie in 2023? Adam Yates won his first Tour de Romandie title in 2023, with Matteo Jorgenson impressing in second and veteran Damiano Caruso rounding out the race podium in third place.
When did the Tour de Romandie start? The Tour de Romandie began back in 1947 and as a result, the Swiss stage race continues to be one of the most prestigious titles of the season for GC talents.
Who won the first Tour de Romandie? The first edition of the Tour de Romandie was won by Désiré Keteleer of Belgium, which was a mighty victory given the calibre of his opposition. Second place in the inaugural edition was Gino Bartali, whilst Swizerland’s own Ferdi Kübler finished third. Kübler went on to win two editions of his home race over the next four years.
Who has the most wins at the Tour de Romandie? Ireland’s Stephen Roche holds the most victories at the Tour de Romandie, taking three titles between 1983 and 1987.

An overview of this year's Tour de Romandie
The Tour de Romandie used to be a happy hunting ground for the GC riders whose best asset was their time trialling, as evidenced by the victories of Cadel Evans and Bradley Wiggins in the past. This is no longer the case, with the race containing less than 20km against the clock this year.
With just a 2.3km prologue and a 15.5km individual time trial, the 2024 Tour de Romandie will most likely be decided in the mountains. The two defining days look to be stages 2 and 4, both ending with summit finishes and tasking the riders with plenty of climbing throughout the day. Stage 4 is the Queen stage, standing at just 151.2km but including 3,509m of climbing before a summit finish in Leysin.
The climbs in Switzerland are often long but consistent, with stage 4 ending on a 15km-long climb that averages 5.9% and remains at a similar gradient throughout its duration. Similarly, stage 2’s summit finish up to Les Marécottes will be slightly shorter at 8km, but averages a reliable 7.3%.
Aside from the two mountain stages and two tests against the clock, stage 1 between Château-d’Oex and Fribourg looks to be a rolling test that could suit a breakaway and the final day, beginning and ending in Vernier, looks certain to end in a sprint finish.
Tour de Romandie 2024 contenders
Only 17 riders on the current Tour de Romandie start list will be racing the Giro and of those 17, a few may be challenging for the final podium in both races.
Luke Plapp of Jayco AlUla has found success in week-long stage races in the past, but may struggle over the three weeks of the Giro. Alternatively, Damiano Caruso (Bahrain Victorious), Eddie Dunbar (Jayco AlUla) and Thymen Arensman (Ineos Grenadiers) may shine brightest in Italy, but can all be included in the list of contenders for a strong result in Switzerland.
Tour de Romandie 2024 top 10 contenders
Egan Bernal
Brandon McNulty
Jai Hindley
Aleksandr Vlasov
Thymen Arensman
Richard Carapaz
Tao Geoghegan Hart
David Gaudu
Elsewhere, there are a plethora of teams bringing multiple GC options to the Tour de Romandie, promising a tantalising showdown between the top WorldTour outfits in the peloton. Ineos Grenadiers will have Arensman and Egan Bernal working in unison, Bora-Hansgrohe brings Aleksandr Vlasov , Jai Hindley and Sergio Higuita , whilst Lidl-Trek feature Tao Geoghegan Hart and Giulio Ciccone .
Perhaps the outstanding team, however, are the defending champions UAE Team Emirates , who count last year’s winner Adam Yates , Spain’s Juan Ayuso and American’s Brandon McNulty amongst their number, not to mention the winner of a stage at the recent Giro d’Abruzzo, Pavel Sivakov . The riders in white will certainly be the most favoured heading into the race, with Yates the most probable to take his chance at leadership in the absence of Tadej Pogačar .
Meanwhile, David Gaudu (Groupama-FDJ), Enric Mas (Movistar) and Richard Carapaz (EF Education-EasyPost) will all show face but are unlikely to challenge for the final top three. It is Carapaz who will be most likely to break into the top group of contenders, with the Ecuadorian showing splendid form at Liège-Bastogne-Liège and out to prove that his team should support a GC bid at this summer’s Tour de France.
Teams of Tour de Romandie 2024
At this year’s Tour de Romandie, although the likes of UAE Team Emirates, Ineos Grenadiers and Bora-Hansgrohe will reserve much of the attention at the start of the race, there are a whole host of teams ready to take the bull by the horns. On the start list will be all 18 UCI WorldTeams and five UCI ProTeams, all of whom you can find below.

Tour de Romandie race history
Traditionally, this race has started with a short prologue before sending the riders into the high mountains. Many editions have also finished with another, slightly longer individual time trial to decide the final GC. Therefore, it’s an event that favours the GC riders who are also gifted time trialists, like Primož Roglič and Chris Froome – both two-time winners of this race. That’s not to say the race only favours time trial specialists, quite the contrary in fact.
Over the past decade, both Ilnur Zakarin (2015) and Nairo Quintana (2016) have won this race, two riders that are renowned for their poor time trialling abilities. Over the last 15 years, three winners of the Tour de Romandie – Cadel Evans, Bradley Wiggins and Chris Froome – have gone on to win the Tour de France in the same year, emphasising just how important this race can be for those riders with their eyes set on a yellow jersey come July.
No nation has managed to dominate this race over its 75 editions. Italy sits on top of the winners list with 13 wins, but Switzerland lie close behind on 12. Two of Switzerland’s most accomplished riders, Hugo Koblet and Ferdi Kübler, find themselves near the top of the stage winners list with eight apiece. But again it’s Italy that tops this particular list courtesy of Mario Cipollini who won 12 stages during his long career.
The Irishman, Stephen Roche, holds the record for the most overall titles with three, but the race’s 2018 and 2019 winner, Primož Roglič, lies ominously close behind on two. Roglič isn’t down to ride this year’s race, so Roche’s record is safe for at least another 12 months. The defending champion Adam Yates is though, and there’s a good chance that he could repeat his result from last year and join Roglič on two career wins.

Here's the prize money payout for each golfer at the 2024 Corales Puntacana Championship
B illy Horschel jumped out to an early scorching start with four birdies on the first five holes Sunday to quickly take the lead, one he would never relinquish. Horschel then added another four birdies and an eagle to his scorecard to shoot a final-round 63 and win the Corales Puntacana Championship for his eighth PGA Tour title. The 63 also matched a course record at the Corales course at Puntacana Resort in the Dominican Republic.
Horschel, 37, followed 67-69 with 66-63 over the weekend to end at 23-under-total, two shots ahead of Wesley Bryan, who was looking to go wire-to-wire while playing on a sponsor exemption this week. It was his best finish on tour since 2017.
This marks the sixth time in the previous seven playings of the event that the winner has been in his 30s. Horschel also earned $720,000 from the overall $4 million purse. Bryan earned $436,000.
For Horschel, it was his first victory since the Memorial in 2022, where he topped Aaron Wise by four shots that week.
"This game of golf's so fickle, I think you can put a lot into it and get everything you want out of it," Horschel said. "But I knew in my 14 years, 13 years previously on the PGA Tour that I had the ability, I had the talent, I just needed to continue to work hard and do the right things and continue to believe that good stuff was going to come to the forefront at some point in time."
Horschel was asked about winning an opposite field event for the first time in his career. He was not in the signature events as he finished last season ranked No. 90 in FedEx Cup standings. He entered this week ranked 83rd in the World Ranking, having missed the cut at his last start, the Valero Texas Open two weeks ago.
"The PGA Tour has a lot of tournaments and it's tough for every tournament to get their due," he said. "Opposite field events have been crucial for a lot of players coming up the ranks. Look at Tony Finau, Viktor Hovland winning in Puerto Rico, Matt Wallace won this. So listen, it's another opportunity to play, it's another opportunity to become a better player, to get that win on the PGA Tour.
Also of note, twin brothers Parker and Pierceson Coody both finished inside the top 20. Parker opened with a first-round 66 and ended tied for sixth place at 16 under par. Pierceson opened with consecutive rounds of 67 and tied for 18th place at 12 under par, four shots behind his brother.

Tour de Romandie: Gaviria wins final sprint as Adam Yates seals overall victory
Colombian launches long sprint in Geneva to take second win of season
How it unfolded
Fernando Gaviria sprinted to glory on the final stage of the Tour de Romandie , launching a long sprint to the line to take his second win in Movistar colours in Geneva.
The Colombian beat out Nikias Arndt (Bahrain Victorious) and Ethan Hayter (Ineos Grenadiers) to the line, leading from the front after starting his sprint a massive 300 metres from the finish.
Gaviria led the way around the final bend, surging clear to take two bike lengths on Milan Menten (Lotto-Dstny). As he eased to the win ahead of the rest, Arndt passed Menten on the right with Hayter jumping on the left.
The pair passed the Belgian fastman, but couldn't get close to Gaviria, who had time to sit up and celebrate as he crossed the line.
"Really hard stage because in the climb we went up really fast," Gaviria said after the finish, having earlier come back to the peloton after finding himself among the sprinters dropped on the main climb of the day.
"I dropped but the team did an amazing job and waited on the climbs. We came back and did our best and it's really nice to get this victory for the team.
"I just stayed focussed, and waited for my moment. I started the sprint and had really good legs at the end. This race is really important for me because I bring a lot for the Giro d'Italia and now I'm ready for that."
Away from the drama of the dash for the line, Adam Yates (UAE Team Emirates) finished safely in the peloton back in 25th place to confirm his overall victory.
The Briton, whose victory was built with a solo triumph atop Thyon 2000 on Saturday, finished the week 19 seconds clear of Matteo Jorgenson (Movistar), while Damiano Caruso (Bahrain Victorious) rounded out the podium at 27 seconds.
"First of all, I want to say a big thanks to the guys," Yates said after the stage. "We controlled the race perfectly today. I didn't really do much so it's thanks to them that we won this race.
"It's been a perfect week for us. We have two stage wins and the overall so we can't ask for much more."
The final stage of the Tour de Romandie took the peloton over 170km from Vufflens-la-Ville to Geneva, with hilly ground along the way including second- and third-category climbs. With a flat run to the finish, however, it looked set to be another day for the sprinters following stage 4's summit finish.
A breakaway group of five riders went clear inside the opening 10km, with Thomas Gloag (Jumbo-Visma) and Robert Stannard (Alpecin-Deceuninck) joined out front by Paul Lapeira (AG2R Citroën), Alexander Kamp (Tudor Pro Cycling), and Antoine Aebi (Switzerland).
Back in the peloton, UAE Team Emirates settled into a final day of work for race leader Adam Yates. Along with Ineos Grenadiers, they worked to hold the advantage of the break to a maximum of four minutes.
After 90km of racing, the first-category climb of Grand Fuey (5.8km at 7.6%) would provide the toughest test of the stage. The break hit the climb just 2:30 up on the peloton, though Aebi would soon drop back, getting reabsorbed by the peloton before the top.
The pace in the peloton spat several stage contenders out the rear, with stage 1 winner Ethan Vernon (Soudal-QuickStep) dropping along with Fernando Gaviria (Movistar) and Luca Mozzato (Arkéa-Samsic).
They'd make it back before the third-category climb at Le Molard (3.3km at 6.8%) 55km out, though they fell back once more on the way up along with Lotto-Dstny fastman Milan Menten.
Following that climb and descent, a flat run of 40km lay ahead of the riders, with 30 seconds separating the reduced main peloton and the chasing sprinters. Vernon, meanwhile, lay a minute down.
Up in the break, the remaining quartet wouldn't survive to contest the race's final intermediate sprint at La Violette. Their adventure came to an end 34km from the finish as the charging peloton swept them up.
Two kilometres later, the main chase group got back on, bringing the likes of Gaviria, Menten, and Mozzato back into the fold as Vernon and several teammates continued to chase.
Geoffrey Bouchard (AG2R Citroën) gave it a go off the front with 28km to go, with Tudor duo Sébastien Reichenbach and Arthur Kluckers setting off in pursuit and bridging across the 15-second gap over the next 5km. At the rear of the race, Vernon's group got back on soon after, meaning there would be a full selection of sprinters for the finish.
Movistar, Lotto and UAE would lead the chase on the run-in, with Bouchard and the Tudor pair gaining 25 seconds on the flat roads. They held it at 20 seconds heading into the final 10km, but that advantage only slimmed as the kilometres rolled by.
The breakaway trio were finally brought back with just over 2km left to run, at which point Ineos Grenadiers and Bahrain Victorious took over the pacemaking.
There was no real overall control at the front as the peloton raced into the final kilometre. Ineos, Bahrain, and EF Education-EasyPost were the most prominent presences, however.
In the end it was Gaviria who got the jump on those teams and his sprint rivals, jumping from Magnus Cort's wheel and moving clear at the front, where he had no equals in the final burst to the line.
