15 Music Cruises To Book For 2024 & Beyond

A Flower Power Cruise concert

If music is your jam, it's time to think about booking a themed cruise . A funky way to spend a few days or more, music cruises allow guests to bee-bop, jive, groove, and get down to tunes from a variety of genres. Whether you're a fan of jazz, country, emo, Hip Hop, or the '80s, you're bound to find a cruise devoted to your favorite songs. And with so many fun music cruises available, it's easy to become a dancing queen on the high seas.

Celebrity artists mix with up-and-comers to entertain ship guests with live concerts and meet-and-greets. Plus, there's a chance you'll run into your favorite band at breakfast or on the pool deck in the afternoon. When you aren't rocking out to funky beats, you'll still have all the perks of cruising, like playing pickleball or volleyball, swimming, dining, taking a fitness class, checking out the casino, or disembarking to explore a new town or island.

Not sure where to start your search? We've sifted through online reviews and researched each cruise's amenities, artists, and concert venues to find the best music cruises to book for 2024 and beyond. All you have to do is choose the one that sings to you, pack your dancing shoes (and maybe a sparkly outfit or two), and book soon — they fill up quickly.

Our methodology

To be included on this list, each cruise must be centered around music, obviously. And when we say "music," we're not talking about a small acapella group singing in the atrium or a pianist accompanying the dinner rush. We're looking at big-scale, well-organized, fabulous shows featuring acts so good you may get goosebumps. Whether they sing like angels or play a mean guitar, the musicians on these cruises will make your journey one you'll likely wish to repeat.

We consulted a ton of online reviews to ensure the cruises we mention on this list will live up to the hype. In addition to boasting talented performers, we searched for ships that were loaded with fun amenities, good concert venues, great food, and interesting ports of call. There's little worse than being stuck on a boat with nowhere to go, nothing to do, and nothing decent to munch on. That's why we made sure to do a deep dive, researching each cruise company to ensure they would fit the proverbial bill.

We also contacted music cruise organizers like Sixthman and StarVista LIVE to enquire about future dates. They told us that next year's cruise dates are announced during the current cruise, so there are no definitive dates until that time. They did, however, mention that the following year's cruises should take place around the same time. Be sure to check each cruise's website and book early — they fill up super quickly.

Music Cruises

CruiseMapper logo

At CruiseMapper's Music Cruise survey you will find departure dates, itineraries, and various "music and dance" theme cruise information and tips. We offer you a list of Classical music concerts and dance cruise specials on deals to visit the Caribbean, Europe, and Australia on a big cruise ship vacation. Caution - music cruises are super fun, generally promoting a lot of drinking and dancing activities. Cruise drinking and dancing fun generally involve big money spending. Very special are also all the music concert voyages on big riverboats in Europe.

For your convenience, the following link jumps down directly to CruiseMapper's music-cruises schedule , listing lines, ships, departure dates, and homeports. Follow Mardi Gras Carnival cruises visiting the US port cities New Orleans Louisiana, Galveston Texas, Tampa Florida, Long Beach (Los Angeles) California, NYC New York, Mobile Alabama, and of course - Rio De Janeiro (Brazil). This survey is integrated with our Themed Cruises .

"Dance and Music" themed cruises

Themed as "Music Cruises" deals are from the list of the industry's newest inventions. They are very similar to all the music concerts arranged at land-based facilities (music halls, theaters, stadiums, etc. And since modern cruise ships can accommodate from 2500 (on average) to more than 5000 people, these so special marine vessels become the perfect place for the mixed "music concert and party" cruise vacation the world has never seen before.

From what Wikipedia has said about music - it's the art form "whose medium is sound and silence". However, on cruise ships there's no such thing as silence - it's party time all the time! The word "music" derives from Greek "mousike" meaning the "art of the Muses". And what is better than a Muses-inspired vacation of several days at sea, right?

Dance-themed cruises

The dance cruise experience is a major part of the "Music Cruise" specials - especially when famous bands and singers are involved in these actions. And these "musical" deals suggest a hell of a lot dancing on the ship. Imagine you can enjoy (if fortunate enough) your super cool band's performance at sea. There are some truly unique sailings, which include huge crowd dancing parties featuring NKOTB (with the "New Kids On The Block" celebrities).

Christian-themed music cruises are another unique offer in this category. On those, you'll enjoy the company of hundreds and even thousands of like-minded folks sharing your ideas of God, right and wrong. And quite often, preachers there dance and enjoy the music more than the audience itself.

Popular musical genders on the specially themed music and dance cruises are Rock, Country, and Folk bands. And Classical music and Jazz themed cruises offer one truly sophisticated experience at sea. Often music-themed sailings are combined with specials from the category of Food and Wine cruises . These are usually Jazz- or Classic music-themed (often river cruise) deals, offering a gourmet voyage on some of Europe's biggest rivers, such as the Danube, or Rhone and Seine in France.

P&O Cruises UK ships offer each year several Music Cruises leaving from Southampton, and their Australia brand may offer such themed deals from Sydney, Australia. Most of them are Mediterranean cruises from Southampton, and  Cruises To Nowhere from Sydney - i.e. without additional ports of call (which significantly lowers their cost by not including port charges).

How much do "Music Cruises" cost,  what is included in prices?

Your dance/music cruise infrastructure is pretty much like a normal sailing - but it's not, ok? The cruise part as always, includes tanning, swimming, drinking, dining, sleeping (with the "repeat until" command) summarized as "easy big-time fun". Your "music cruise tickets" prices are inclusive of all meals on the boat and add to that the 24-hr room service onboard. This means all main dining rooms and the buffet dining, specialty restaurants charge extra (from ~$20 to $50 per meal). Alcohol, soda and soft drinks are not in the list of inclusions.

Beware - enjoying the music cruise fun in a not healthy and not cheap combination with lots of beverages could cost you way more than the ticket itself. Virtually all music and dance cruise deals are on round-trip departures from some of the world's biggest cruise ports - like Miami and Fort Lauderdale in Florida, NYC New York, Boston MA, Los Angeles, Southampton UK, Sydney AU.

Music Cruises 2023-2024 schedule

Most of the following voyages are themed on Classic, Folk, Country, Rock, or Jazz music.

Dance and Music Cruises - CruiseMapper

Note: In the following table, all links are internal (CruiseMapper) redirecting to the ship’s itinerary schedule where you can compare dates and prices per person (double occupancy rates).

Mardi Gras carnival cruises

Mardi Gras cruises are music and dance-themed voyages with itineraries that visit the US port cities  New Orleans Louisiana ,  Galveston Texas ,  Tampa Florida ,  Long Beach (Los Angeles) California ,  NYC New York ,  Mobile Alabama , and of course,  Rio De Janeiro Brazil .

Mardi Gras Carnival

The Mardi Gras carnival aka "Carnival season" (the name literally means "Fat Tuesday" in French) is a Catholic festival celebrated in the countries of Anglican nations. The celebrations start on Epiphany (or "the feast day" on January 6th) and culminate on the day before Ash Wednesday (called "Fat Tuesday" and "Mardi Gras Day" - positioned exactly 46 days before Easter).

When is the Mardi Gras carnival day?

Because day's timing is set according to Easter, it varies by year - between February 3 and March 9. Follows a list with the Mardi Gras dates in the next couple of years (all dates will be on Tuesdays, though  - no matter the year).

Carnival Mardi Gras - CruiseMapper

The Mardi Gras dates are:

  • in 2020 on February 25
  • in 2021 on February 16
  • in 2022 on March 1
  • in 2023 on February 21
  • in 2024 on February 13
  • in 2025 on March 4
  • in 2026 on February 17
  • in 2027 on February 9

To find your "Mardi Gras cruise ship", just pick departure port ( New Orleans ,  Galveston ,  Tampa ,  Los Angeles ,  New York ,  Mobile , Rio De Janeiro ). In the port's schedule, you'll find listed ships leaving from or going to that seaport. Then choose itineraries that include the year's carnival day.

Mardi Gras New Orleans is second only to the "Rio Carnival" in Brazil. According to Wikipedia, the Rio Carnival draws record numbers of day tourists to Brazil - 2,2 million for the Carnival Day in 2012. Add to this more than 5 million people for the whole week (around 70% of all annual guests to Rio De Janeiro), with over 400,000 foreigners participating in the week-long day and night music and dancing, and boozing.

They provide a chance to see your favorite acts up close and rub shoulders with and even meet them while shipboard and interact and party with your fellow fans.

Top 23 Music Festival Cruises To Experience Before You Die (2024 Update)

Looking for the best music festival cruises in 2024!? Well, you’ve come to the right place! I’ve spent a lot of time on EDM cruises & music cruises during the past few years, and I think they are definitely something you must experience at least once in your life!

However, I should warn you… after you spend a few days raving/partying at sea, the idea of going back to camping festivals might not sound too appealing!

Music cruises are simply the most comfortable way to enjoy a festival, because it’s also an incredible vacation!  The destinations are always beautiful, the cruise amenities are top-notch, and the sunrises/ sunsets you’ll witness while onboard the ship will leave you speechless.  They also can be a fantastic way to get up close and personal with your favorite EDM artists and DJ’s.  It’s a really nice and intimate vibe on board these cruises, especially compared to the massive festivals, and it’s pretty common to see artists just strolling around the ship.

Also, read: How to Sneak Alcohol on a Cruise | 15 Must-Try Products

While they do tend to be a bit more expensive than your typical festival, it’s a bucket list adventure that’ll keep you coming back for more!

No Jamrock or ubersoca cruise? Very surprised as these ar epic

Never heard of those! Will have to look into them! Thanks!

I know another DONG!””Every noise at once”” is a website where music genres are ordered according to how accustic or electronic they are… how dark or light… you can listen to demo tracks and even see what bands are in witch genre and and how good they fit within the genre itself.

Hey…. Thanks for this website and your material, really an eye opener for anyone trying to get into industry, getting record label deal is no longer a priority, i would say before young producers approach record labels, they need to have a great fan base, awesome music, so this serves as a foundation to artists who want to grow in the scene, nothing is over night success and producers chasing record labels deals are not in right mindset to understand how music industry works now, i would say to new artists that make music everyday, learn and get better at producing skills, stay away from cookie cutter EDM/dance style, innovate the way you write music, world needs new sounds, so don’t follow similar genre, build your artist fan base organically, don’t spam social media outlets, if record label deal is what an individual artist wants, show them the traction of your artist success while you were an indie artist, so your proving your worth there.

Music Themed Cruises - Cruising Earth

Music themed cruises.

Cruising Earth - Music Themed Cruises

Music Themed Cruises are the most popular category of themed cruises. Whether you are an all night partier or just like to get your groove on in the afternoon to some classic hits there is a music themed cruise for you! The benefits of a music themed cruise over a traditional concert is the fact that you have more access and more time with the artists. That, and you'll be surrounded by fellow cruisers with like-minded interests in music at the same time. There will also be other scheduled events onboard, and possibly in port, involving the artist(s) as well. A pub crawl lead be your favorite drummer or band trivia lead by your favorite lead singer - does that interest you? If any of it does then a music themed cruise may be for you!

Rockin’ the Waves: Catch Tunes on These Music Cruises

On these ships, music is the draw.

a band playing on a cruise ship while people cheer for them

Music-themed cruises have long drawn dance crowds to the seas, and now that the travel industry is back at full force post-pandemic, the ships are rocking again , with popular acts booked and often interacting with passengers too.

“We tear down the walls between artists, celebrities, creators and their passionate communities by fully taking over a ship to provide immersive experiences,” says Taniqua Martin, senior marketing and communications specialist for Sixthman, a company that has staged more than 150 music-themed vacations at resorts and on cruises since 2001.

Music Cruises | Music-theme Cruise Holidays

From bach to bowie, jazz to jackson, or ella to elvis - there's a music cruise to suit all tastes..

Music-themed cruises have taken centre stage in recent years.

The rhythm of the sea makes for the perfect accompaniment to live performances, while grandioso vessels boast luxurious symphonies of fine dining and themed evenings. Of course, a music cruise isn’t for everyone. Some think there’s too much sax and violins . C, E-flat and G often note that they cannot be served at the bar - because they’re minors . Right, now that the music puns are out of the way…

Music fans of all genres have discovered that music cruises offer the best venue for getting close to their favourite bands and musicians. The intimate setting of a cruise ship also allows audible aficionados to meet like-minded shipmates with a shared musical passion.

Unlike most festivals and concerts, a music cruise allows the opportunity to chat with singers and songwriters over breakfast or drinks, and gain a window into backstage activity through Q&A sessions. No need to huddle around the grubby exit of a divebar! Some cruises even offer yoga classes, pub crawls, and quiz nights - led by rockstars and pop icons. Regardless of whether you’ve gone Chopin and will be Bach in a minuet, you’ll find some amazing music cruise deals on this page.

Why book a music cruise?

Regardless of whether you're a two-steppin' fan of Country & Western music, a keen Classical enthusiast, or you swoon over the heartthrobs of yesteryear - there's a musical cruise for all tastes! Music-themed cruises usually include an array of concerts, dance sessions, autograph opportunities, and the chance to speak one-to-one with your favourite musicians. These cruises also incorporate huge dollops of nostalgia, and no matter the decade you reminisce over, you will always find a voyage that suits your taste. Don't forget to pack your flares and perm your hair (wigs are available for the follically challenged), for there's a world of Elvis impersonators, disco balls, and love beads to explore. Prefer smooth jazz, hard rock, or crisp baroque? Check out our inventory. You won't be disappointed!

Rock The Boat: The Best Music Cruises

As a music lover, I’m always on the hunt for new and exciting ways to experience my favorite bands and artists. And what better way to do that than on a luxury cruise ship?

Themed music cruises have become increasingly popular over the years, offering fans the chance to see their favorite acts perform live while enjoying all the amenities of a top-notch cruise experience. From classic rock to reggae, country to heavy metal, there’s a themed music cruise out there for every type of music lover.

In this article, I’ll be taking a closer look at the best music cruises for 2023, 2024, and beyond. We’ll explore the different genres represented, the interactive experiences available, and the all-inclusive options that make these cruises the ultimate escape for music fans.

Whether you’re looking to rock out with your favorite band, learn some new dance moves, or even renew your vows at sea, there’s a themed music cruise out there that’s sure to satisfy your cravings for adventure and freedom. So get ready to set sail and rock the boat like never before!

  • Themed music cruises offer a mix of music genres and interactive experiences, including live performances, memorabilia auctions, photo opportunities, and Q&As.
  • Specific music cruises cater to different tastes, such as reggae, country, rock, classic rock, blues, jazz, and RB music.
  • Some music cruises are all-inclusive and feature top-tier musicians and celebrity-attended events.
  • Music cruises provide a regular cruise experience with the added bonus of quality live music and unique collaborations.

Themed Music Cruises

I love themed music cruises because they offer a unique experience with live performances and interactive activities, and there are so many options to choose from, including rock, country, reggae, and even polka, like the Polka Magic Cruise.

One of the benefits of themed music cruises is that they offer a chance to enjoy quality live music while also enjoying a regular cruise experience. Themed music cruises are perfect for fans of different music genres, and they offer a mix of ballads, pop-rock, and more. Each themed music cruise has its own unique offering, including memorabilia auctions, photo opportunities, QAs, jam sessions, and autograph signings.

Choosing the right themed music cruise for your taste can be overwhelming, but it’s worth the effort to find the perfect match. The Malt Shop Memories Cruise is perfect for fans of 50s and 60s music, while the Texas Country Music Cruise is perfect for country music fans. The Kiss Kruise offers rock music with KISS as the headliner, while the Love and Harmony Cruise offers reggae music. The Polka Magic Cruise is perfect for fans of polka music.

With so many options available, there’s a themed music cruise for everyone, and it’s a great way to enjoy live music while also experiencing the adventure of a cruise.

Specific Music Cruises

Outlaw Country West is the perfect music cruise for fans of country rock. This themed cruise celebrates the fusion of country and rock music through multiple performances by Blackberry Smoke, Steve Earle, Ray Wylie Hubbard, and more. The cruise offers a unique experience that combines the thrill of a live performance with the beauty of a cruise ship.

To help you visualize the experience, check out the table below. It provides a summary of the cruise line, destination, and date for the Far East Reggae Cruise and the Flower Power Cruise. These cruises offer unique music experiences that cater to different tastes. The Far East Reggae Cruise is perfect for fans of reggae music, while the Flower Power Cruise is ideal for those who enjoy the sounds of the 60s. No matter what your musical preference is, there is a themed music cruise out there for you.

All-Inclusive Options

For those looking for a stress-free vacation, all-inclusive options are available on some themed music cruises. These packages offer a range of benefits, including unlimited food and drinks, access to exclusive areas, and priority boarding.

All-inclusive options are perfect for those who want to budget their expenses and enjoy their time on board without worrying about extra costs. Not only are they budget-friendly, but they also allow for a more relaxed vacation experience. Guests can indulge in delicious meals, enjoy unlimited drinks, and take part in a variety of activities without worrying about additional costs.

With priority boarding, guests can skip the lines and start their vacation right away. All-inclusive options provide a hassle-free and enjoyable way to experience a themed music cruise.

Top Genres Represented

With its blend of soulful ballads, reggae rhythms, and hard-hitting metal, the themed music cruises offer an array of genres for fans to enjoy. Whether you’re a fan of country music or electronic beats, there’s a music cruise out there for you.

Some of the top music cruise destinations include the Caribbean, Japan, and the Western Caribbean, with plenty of options for different dates and itineraries.

If you’re looking to book a music cruise, the best time to do so is typically several months in advance. Many of the most popular cruises sell out quickly, so it’s important to plan ahead and secure your spot. And with all-inclusive options available for some cruises, you can enjoy live music, delicious food, and exciting activities without worrying about additional expenses.

So why not rock the boat and book a themed music cruise for your next vacation?

Meet and Greets

I always get excited for the chance to meet my favorite musicians on themed music cruises, with many offering meet and greets, autograph signings, and even photo opportunities with the performers. It’s an incredible experience to be able to chat with them, get their autographs, and take a picture with them.

Here are some benefits of meet and greets, as well as tips for making the most of them:

Benefits of Meet and Greets:

You get to meet your favorite musicians in person and connect with them on a personal level.

You can get autographs and take pictures with them, which are great souvenirs to remember the cruise by.

You might be able to ask them questions or get some insider information about their music or upcoming projects.

It’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that you’ll never forget.

tips for Making the Most of Meet and Greets:

Get to the meet and greet early to ensure you get a good spot in line.

Prepare some questions or topics to talk about beforehand, so you don’t freeze up when you meet the musician.

Be respectful of their time and space, and don’t overstay your welcome.

Remember to enjoy the moment and take in the experience fully.

Interactive Experiences

Attending themed music cruises is an incredible opportunity to participate in interactive experiences that you won’t find on regular cruises. From memorabilia auctions to jam sessions and QAs with your favorite musicians, there’s always something exciting happening onboard. These interactive experiences allow you to get up close and personal with the artists and create memories that will last a lifetime.

One of the most popular interactive experiences on themed music cruises is the fan meet up. These events give fans the chance to connect with each other and share their love for the music. You can meet people from all over the world who share the same passion for your favorite artists, and make new friends that you’ll stay in touch with long after the cruise is over.

With virtual concerts becoming more popular, some themed music cruises are now offering exclusive online shows that you can watch from the comfort of your own home. These virtual concerts are a great way to stay connected with your favorite artists and relive the memories of your cruise experience.

Memorabilia Auctions

As a fan of themed music cruises, I always look forward to the exciting memorabilia auctions that take place onboard. The auctions offer a unique opportunity for fans to bid on one-of-a-kind items, such as autographed guitars, concert posters, and rare vinyl records.

The collectibles market has grown significantly in recent years, and these auctions provide fans with a chance to own a piece of music history. What I love most about these auctions is the thrill of the bidding process. It’s always exciting to see who will come out on top and win the coveted item.

And even if I don’t win anything, it’s still fascinating to see what other fans are willing to pay for a piece of memorabilia. Overall, the memorabilia auctions add an extra layer of excitement to themed music cruises, and I highly recommend checking them out if you get the chance.

Photo Opportunities

One of my favorite aspects of themed music cruises are the photo opportunities with talented musicians and fellow fans. These moments allow us to capture memories that will last a lifetime.

To make the most of your photo opportunities on music cruises, get creative with your poses. Don’t be afraid to strike a silly pose or show off your fandom with a t-shirt or sign. Many cruises even offer professional photo sessions with the artists, so be sure to take advantage of those as well.

When taking photos on a music cruise, it’s important to remember a few tips and tricks for capturing great shots. First, make sure to have a good quality camera or phone with you at all times. Lighting can also be tricky on a ship, so try to take advantage of natural light and avoid using flash if possible.

Finally, don’t forget to take photos of the ship and the beautiful destinations you visit along the way. These photos will add to the overall experience and allow you to relive the trip long after it’s over.

Panel Discussions

I love participating in panel discussions on themed cruises because they offer unique insights and perspectives from both musicians and fellow fans, fostering engaging and thought-provoking conversations. These discussions provide an opportunity to delve deeper into the music, the artists, and the industry behind the themed cruise.

From analyzing the impact of the cruise industry on the music industry to discussing the future of music cruises, these conversations open up a world of possibilities for music enthusiasts. Panel discussions on music cruises often feature artists as well as industry insiders, giving fans a chance to hear directly from those involved in the creation and production of the music they love.

These discussions can cover a wide range of topics, from the creative process behind an album to the business side of the music industry. They also provide a chance for fans to connect with each other and share their thoughts and opinions on music and the industry. As the popularity of themed cruises continues to grow, I believe that panel discussions will become an even more integral part of the music cruise experience, offering unique insights and experiences that can’t be found anywhere else.

Special Themed Nights

During themed music cruises, I always look forward to the special themed nights that offer a chance to dress up, dance, and immerse myself in the music and culture of the genre.

Some of the best themed night ideas that I’ve experienced include a 70s disco night, a beach party night, and a rockstar karaoke night.

These themed nights not only allow me to have fun and let loose, but they also create a sense of community among fellow cruisers who share the same passion for the music.

When it comes to the best cruise lines for themed nights, I highly recommend the Rock Legends Cruise X and The Kiss Kruise for rock music lovers. These cruises offer themed nights such as a KISS costume party and a rockstar jam session.

For those who enjoy country music, the Texas Country Music Cruise is a great option with its country western night and line dancing lessons.

Overall, themed nights on music cruises are an excellent way to fully immerse oneself in the music and culture of the genre while having a blast with fellow cruisers.

Hosted Parties

Attending hosted parties on themed music cruises is an experience like no other. These parties are a great way to connect with fellow music lovers and enjoy live performances from top-tier musicians. They are usually held in the evenings and often have specific themes such as disco, 80s, or rock and roll.

Different cruise lines have their own unique party themes and styles. For example, the Rock Legends Cruise X has a ‘Rockin’ the Boat’ party where guests dress up in their best rock and roll attire and dance the night away. On the other hand, the Love and Harmony Cruise has a ‘White Night’ where guests wear all-white outfits and dance to reggae music under the stars.

These themed parties are a great way to let loose and have fun while also enjoying the stunning views of the ocean.

Wellness Activities

Immerse yourself in a world of relaxation and rejuvenation with the wellness activities offered on themed cruises. These cruises provide a unique opportunity to unwind and disconnect from the stress of everyday life.

Here are some of the best wellness activities you can enjoy on themed music cruises:

  • Yoga and meditation sessions to help you find inner peace and serenity.
  • Spa treatments, such as massages and facials, to pamper your body and mind.
  • Fitness classes, such as Pilates and Zumba, to keep you active and energized.
  • Healthy food options, such as fresh juices and salads, to nourish your body and promote well-being.

With these wellness options, you can balance out the excitement of the music events with some much-needed self-care. Take advantage of these activities to rejuvenate and recharge, so you can fully enjoy all the experiences that themed music cruises have to offer.

Dance Lessons

I love taking dance lessons on themed cruises to learn new moves and have fun with fellow passengers. There are always so many dance lesson options available, from ballroom dancing to line dancing, and they cater to all skill levels. One of the benefits of participating in dance lessons on a music cruise is that they are often taught by professional dancers, which means you can learn from the best and improve your skills in a fun and relaxed environment.

Not only are dance lessons a great way to learn new moves, but they also provide an opportunity to socialize with other passengers. Dancing brings people together and creates a sense of community on the ship. It’s a chance to meet new people, make friends, and create lasting memories. Whether you’re a seasoned dancer or a beginner, taking dance lessons on a music cruise is an experience you won’t want to miss.

Vow Renewals

Renewing our vows on a themed cruise with a live music performance would be a dream come true. The atmosphere on a themed music cruise is already filled with excitement, so adding a vow renewal ceremony to the mix would make it even more memorable.

The options for vow renewal ceremonies on these cruises are endless, from intimate ceremonies on the beach to grand celebrations on the ship’s deck. In addition to the vow renewal options, there are also plenty of romantic activities to enjoy on these cruises.

Couples can snuggle up and watch live performances from their favorite musicians, take part in special themed events like a formal ball or a masquerade party, or simply relax and enjoy the stunning views of the ocean. No matter what activities couples choose, a themed music cruise provides the perfect backdrop for a romantic vow renewal ceremony.

Additional Themed Cruises

Vacationing on a themed cruise that caters to my interests has always been on my bucket list, especially one that offers unique experiences and activities. While the music-themed cruises mentioned in the previous section sound amazing, there are also many other themed cruises to consider.

Top destinations, cruise lines, and ships for themed music cruises include Norwegian Cruise Line, Royal Caribbean, MSC Cruises, and Carnival Cruise Line. Fan reviews and experiences reveal that these cruise lines offer a wide range of themed cruises, from culinary and wine cruises to wellness and fitness cruises.

One unique themed cruise that caught my eye is the Disney Cruise Line’s Marvel Day at Sea, which offers a superhero-filled day with meet and greets, live shows, and themed dining experiences. Another intriguing option is the Holland America Line’s Dancing with the Stars at Sea, where guests can learn dance steps from professional dancers and even compete in their own dance competition.

With so many themed cruises available, there truly is something for everyone to enjoy while sailing the high seas.

What is the average cost of a themed music cruise?

After researching, I found that the average cost of a themed music cruise varies depending on the cruise line, ship, and amenities. However, after comparing prices, some cruises are more affordable than others. Cruise ship amenities also play a role in the cost.

Are there any age restrictions for attending a themed music cruise?

Don’t let age restrictions stop you from attending a themed music cruise. While some cruises may require parental consent for minors, most cruises welcome music fans of all ages to enjoy live performances and interactive experiences.

Can attendees bring their own musical instruments to jam with other musicians on the cruise?

Yes, attendees can bring their own musical instruments to jam with other musicians on themed music cruises. Jam sessions and musical collaboration are great opportunities to explore your creative potential and connect with like-minded individuals.

Are there any options for non-alcoholic beverages on the cruise?

Yes, there are plenty of non-alcoholic options available on music cruises. As someone with dietary restrictions, I appreciate the variety of beverages offered. It’s great to have options that cater to everyone’s needs.

Are there any opportunities for attendees to participate in workshops or classes related to music on the cruise?

Can you imagine jamming with your favorite musicians or taking music masterclasses on a cruise? Many themed music cruises offer interactive experiences like jam sessions and workshops for attendees to learn from the best in the industry.

Specialty tours & events, get in the groove on the newest music-themed cruises.

April/May 2022

Whether you like to line dance, swing dance, rock out, salsa or just chill and listen to tunes, there’s a music- themed cruise for you. Mix all the best components of a music festival with the ease, amenities and excursion opportunities of a cruise, and you can see why music lovers are ready to set sail. In the past 20 years music cruises have proved popular, with just about every genre represented.

One of the largest producers of music cruises, Sixthman Productions , offers cruises such as the Rock Boat , KISS Kruise , Outlaw Country Cruise and Keeping the Blues Alive at Sea . Or choose Broadway, disco, soul and even cruises themed by decades.

In addition to the performances, music fans also enjoy a more relaxed atmosphere on most music cruises. “All rules are relaxed and changed,” said Scott Burnett, marketing director, Legendary Rhythm & Blues Cruise . “There is no formal dining and no dress code. Even the ship personnel are in a different vibe and mood.”

Some music cruises encourage a different type of dress code, with popular theme nights like Pajama Night, Mardi Gras or Wig Night.

Laura and Tom Calk of Atlanta, Georgia, went on a week-long cruise one year with Legendary Rhythm & Blues Cruise to celebrate their anniversary and see Tom’s favorite band, Tedeschi Trucks. According to the couple, “We had a blast. There was a theme night every night. One night we dressed as Gumby and Pokey. And we rode the elevator with members of Tedeschi Trucks!”

Fans also flock to music cruises to meet and chat with musicians, an experience you seldom get at a concert or music festival. Scheduled opportunities to meet artists include meet-and-greets and autograph sessions.

And you are literally in the same boat with all the musicians you came to see — they hang out by the pool, attend the same concerts, dine in the same restaurants and go on the same excursions.

Robert Levy from Glen Allen, Virginia, sailed on three music- themed cruises.

“I like the chance to see so many acts back-to-back-to-back and to meet the musicians and talk to them like normal people, one cruiser to another,” he said. “I met John Lodge of the Moody Blues at Ernest Hemingway’s house in Key West, Florida, and we just hung out and talked, one tourist to another.”

“We loved sitting in the audience with members of other bands,” Laura Calk said. “You may find yourself sitting next to a musician you had just seen play.”

On some cruises you can even jam with musicians. The Legendary Rhythm & Blues Cruise hosts nightly jams, and guests can join in and play or sing. It’s not unusual to see guests board a music cruise with a guitar or other instrument.

The artists love the jam sessions, as well. “Sometimes musicians get on the stage with other musicians they have never played with before, and you can hear combinations of artists you’ve never heard,” said Legendary’s Burnett. “Some of the magic happens with these open jam sessions.”

While music cruises can offer a place for emerging artists to play — and many started their careers that way — big-name musicians love to perform on board as well, including Melissa Etheridge, Kiss, Yes, The Moody Blues and Peter Frampton. After Johnny Winter played the Legendary Rhythm & Blues Cruise, he said, “This blues cruise was better than Woodstock!”

Burnett said a week-long Legendary cruise can present more than 100 acts, resulting in an intense pace. “Some people go to bed right after dinner and set an alarm to wake up later for their favorite acts,” he said.

No worries if you need a quiet moment away. “We loved hanging by the pool and seeing so many different acts. But I needed a break sometimes,” Laura Calk said. “I could always find a quiet place to escape and read three novels on my cruise.”

The percentage of repeat visitors on music cruises remains high, with fans returning for encore performances of their favorite bands every year and forming bonds with other fans.

“We have about a 70 percent repeat rate,” said Burnett. “We typically have guests from 15 to 20 countries on board. I’ve seen many of them make lasting friendships, then stay in touch through our chat room or on Facebook.”

Mindfulness City in Kingdom of Bhutan Unveiled as Future Economic Hub

In front of an audience of 30,000 Kingdom of Bhutan residents and officials, His Majesty King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck presented his vision for a new economic hub in Bhutan. Located between India to the south and China to the north, Bhutan is one of the most beautiful destinations in the world. Bhutan came late to global tourism. It opened its borders to international visitors in 1974 and, while tourism definitely increased, residents are enduring “light” rush-hour traffic in Thimphu , its capital city, as the only Asian capital without traffic lights.

14 Music Cruises That Really Rock

Daniel Kohn

In the past decade or so, rock cruises have taken over the high seas, bringing their fans closer than ever to their favorite bands. As these musical boat rides have become more popular, more and more of them have been popping up. Outside of the live performances featured on these cruises, there are also a flurry of "alternate" activities that make rock cruises different from attending traditional shows. Beyond just hanging with your fellow fans, you can kick it with band members, and even participate in activities with your favorite rockers.

So, what's the best music-themed cruise out there? That depends on what you're looking for. Classic rock cruises are the most widespread, but if you like metal, then there's a metal cruise - and the same goes for indie rock, jam bands, etc. - most genres of rock have dedicated music cruise packages. Whatever you're looking for, there's a musical cruise out there for you.

This is the definitive list of rock cruises. If you're looking for music cruise ship packages that will have you rockin' on the high seas, this list will serve as your guide to which rock cruise to select for your next vacation.

Rock Legends Cruise

Rock Legends Cruise

Heading into its fifth year, this cruise's name isn't misleading. Pat Benatar and Neil Giraldo, REO Speedwagon, Thin Lizzy, John Mayall, and Leon Russell highlight 2017's edition, while past performers included Peter Frampton, Gregg Allman, Ace Frehley, ZZ Top, and many more. Prepare to rock out with some legends of rock.

Go here for more info.

Monsters of Rock Cruise

Monsters of Rock Cruise

Started in 2011, this cruise is one of the longer cruises on this list. Unlike others, there's an east coast and west coast edition, allowing for fans to not only pick a different lineup that suits their interests, but a different travel experience as well.

In 2017, the ship will be out on the waters for six days and five nights. This hard rock/heavy metal-themed voyage features a number of activities that will entertain guests. On top of performances by the likes of Vince Neil, Nightranger, Slaughter, Cinderella’s Tom Keifer, Tesla, Stevie Vai, Uli Jon Roth, Queensrÿche, Warrant, Quiet Riot, Mr. Big, Great White, Firehouse, L.A. Guns, Faster Pussycat, and more through the years, there will be plenty of other activities.

There's artist photo experiences, a Monsters Rock & Roll Formal, and exclusive MOR Craft Beer Tasting, which will help take the edge off your rockin'. Additionally, the Monster Gong Show Karaoke and Cooking with Rock Stars hosted by Lisa Tirone add another element that goes beyond music.

Moodies Cruise

Moodies Cruise

Formed in 2013, this cruise, put together by the Moody Blues, is one of several prog rock jaunts. But unlike other rock cruises (and much like the band itself), Moodies Cruise is all about the music. Of course, the amenities are still plentiful - this is a standard cruise experience, albeit with multiple rock bands to take attendees through their days and nights.

Cruise to the Edge

Cruise to the Edge

This cruise is comprised of prog rock bands like Yes, Kansas, and a host of others. The beauty of Cruise to the Edge is that it also serves as a fantasy camp for wanna-be rockers. If you want to learn from some of the best musicians in rock history - and watch them on stage - then you may want to sail through the Gulf of Mexico with the bands on this cruise.

The '80s Cruise

The '80s Cruise

This cruise is exactly what you'd expect: it's totally '80s, with a lineup jam packed with bands from the decade of decadence. The 2016 edition featured Huey Lewis & the News, Richard Marx, Starship, Kool & The Gang, A Flock of Seagulls, Modern English, Naked Eyes, Tiffany, Wang Chung, celebrity DJ Biz Markie, and a Jessie's Girl tribute band.

Motorboat

One of the best (and hardest) rock cruises is Motörhead's Motorboat. Though it isn't setting sail in 2016 and beyond due to Lemmy's death, the Motorboat will be remembered for thrilling sets by Anthrax, Slayer, Suicidal Tendencies, and more. Basically, this was the cruise your principal would have suspended you for going on.

Def Leppard: Hysteria on the High Seas

Def Leppard: Hysteria on the High Seas

As you'd expect from the name of this one, Def Leppard bring their hijinx to the high seas. The Sheffield natives are the centerpiece of this cruise, and they will often bring out pals with them for their four-day adventure. Other highlights include theme nights, Q&As with the bands, and acoustic storyteller-inspired sets where musicians explain their songs.

KISS Kruise

KISS Kruise

Leaving from Miami, the KISS Kruise is everything you'd expect from the Rock n' Roll Hall of Famers. There are multiple sets included with rarities, photo opps with every band member, and more activities (including some with the members of KISS) throughout the cruise's four days. In addition to KISS, there are always plenty of bands performing that will keep the good times rolling while you head from Miami to Grand Cayman and Cozumel.

The Weezer Cruise

The Weezer Cruise

Though it appears to be inactive since 2015, the Weezer Cruise seems like it was probably a whole lot of fun. With a lineup of bands still making relevant music, that's one plus it has over some of their cruise competitors. There was trivia, a Q&A with the band, theme nights, a mini-museum, and even shuffleboard/vow renewals with band members.

Go here for more info on past cruises.

311 Cruise

This reggae-rock-themed cruise will see veteran stoner outfit 311 take pals like Rebelution, Reel Big Fish, and Stick Figure on a Norwegian Cruiseliner traveling from Tampa to Cozumel. Highlights here include activities hosted by artists, a photo with 311, and a whole lot more.

Carnival Live

Carnival Live

Every year, Carnival has a series of live shows across different genres that they bring to the high seas. The likes of Journey, Boston, Chicago, 38 Special, Styx, REO Speedwagon, Heart, Daughtry, Kansas, and Jewel have all played Carnival Live in the past.

Shiprocked

Now in its eighth edition, Shiprocked is old enough to be called a legacy act. But make no mistake of it, this hard rock joyride is full of thrills (and hopefully no spills). Starting off in Miami, and zipping through Grand Turk in the Turks & Caicos Islands and back, the likes of Sevendust, Breaking Benjamin, Papa Roach, and more will be entertaining the masses.

If that isn't enough, there's a tattoo parlor and other assorted theme nights to entertain you throughout the five-day voyage.

Train: Sail Across the Sun

Train: Sail Across the Sun

If MOR rock is your bag, then the new Train cruise is likely to be up your alley. Outside of the hosts, other acts include Matt Nathanson, Michael Franti & Spearhead, Natasha Bedingfield, Arrested Development, and more. Basically, the music will serve as the soundtrack to a relaxing few days at sea in the Caribbean.

Jam Cruise

As opposed to some of the cruises on this list, Jam Cruise has a pretty diverse lineup that stretches across genres, with the common thread being their ability to improvise, and well, jam. Artists ranging from moe. to Kamasi Washington to Galactic have set sail through the Caribbean.

For music nerds, this cruise also offers the opportunity to learn from the pros. You can take a jazz workshop with musicians, or have them hang as your backing band for a round of karaoke. If that isn't enough, there are special sets that take place in the Jam Room, and even a round of yoga soundtracked by your favorite musicians.

Music Cruises Have Caught Major Wind — And This Company Is The Motor Behind Them

From Broadway divas to metalheads to EDM DJs, stages on ships offer all kinds of artists a unique platform — and Sixthman has cornered the market.

Usually when Lyle Lovett performs, the stage does not move. But the 2010 Cayamo music festival took place on a luxury liner in the Caribbean — and 14-foot waves shook him out of his usual stoicism. “I grew up being the carsick kid. Couldn’t ride in the back seat,” says the Texas singer-songwriter. “I was doing an interview with Steve Earle for his Sirius radio show [while on board], and I had to step out of the room and come back in.”

Cayamo is one of 18 festivals this year run by Sixthman, an Atlanta-based company founded in 2001 when Sister Hazel’s then-manager, Andy Levine, invited 400 of the rock band’s superfans to take over 200 cabins of the Carnival Jubilee. It ended up kicking off an appealing new concert-business model: Music cruises gave artists the rare opportunity to play intimate shows for core groups of well-off devotees — all while enjoying access to high-end meals, luxury hotel rooms and slot machines (the occasional need for Dramamine notwithstanding).

Trending on billboard.

Lovett is one of dozens of artists, from Broadway divas to metalheads to EDM DJs, scheduled to headline Sixthman cruises over the next year. That’s because, unlike traditional, tightly curated festivals like Bonnaroo or Coachella, the company is open to booking acts of any genre — as long as their fans can afford roughly $600 to $5,000 for a cabin over four to seven nights.

In 2023 and 2024, Sixthman’s headliners include 311 (which just finished a cruise from Miami to Mexico and Honduras), guitar hero Joe Bonamassa (whose two Keeping the Blues Alive at Sea voyages per year include a trip from Greece to Croatia in August), Stevie Van Zandt (who curated this year’s eighth installment of Outlaw Country Cruise, topped by Blackberry Smoke, Lucinda Williams and Steve Earle) and Lamb of God (which headlines the Headbanger’s Boat on Halloween, along with GWAR, Mastodon, Hatebreed and others). “If it’s a passionate community, that is an opportunity for us,” says Jeff Cuellar, Sixthman’s vp of events, community management, marketing and branding. “We’ve done our research. We know their numbers.”

Although the COVID-19 pandemic dealt music cruises a one-two punch in 2020, when both cruises and concerts were shut down, the sectors have returned to full strength. Almost every event sells out quickly, according to Cuellar; some, like the old-school hip-hop Rock the Bells festival, even before their lineups are announced.

“You’ve got a really dedicated fan at your fingertips that artists get to be in front of for three, four, five, seven days,” says Lindsey Myers, a CAA music touring agent whose team has handled cruise bookings for artists including KISS and Kesha. “They wouldn’t necessarily have the same sort of avid fan at your average festival.”

Cruise attendance in general has boomed since the lockdowns: According to the latest Cruise Market Watch report, passenger numbers rebounded in 2021 with more than 13 million (though that’s still nearly half of 2019’s pre-pandemic attendance). The top company, Royal Caribbean, recently reported that yearly revenues jumped from $1.5 billion in 2021 to over $8.8 billion last year (due to high operating expenses, the cruise line did experience a net loss of $2.2 billion in 2022). Norwegian, according to its fourth-quarter 2022 results, disclosed a higher-than-expected loss (mostly due to $13.6 billion of debt), but overall revenue was up 225%, to $1.6 billion, and revenue generated from each passenger rose 23% compared with the same period in 2019.

Many cruise companies have music events — Royal Caribbean’s annual ’80s Cruise starred Devo, The Church and Living Colour in March, and Celebrity Summit’s Disco Cruise recently had Kool & The Gang and KC & The Sunshine Band. But Sixthman excels at lineups that feel contemporary — not like Sailing With the Oldies. “Sixthman have really become masters at determining which artists will work and which ones won’t,” says Cory Brennan, founder/CEO of management company 5B, which represents perennial Norwegian headliners like Flogging Molly and 311. “There’s a lot of homework and research that goes into this.”

And for such headliners, a ship is one giant marketing and branding opportunity. Train, which has its own wine company, holds tastings on its Sail Across the Sun cruises; singer Hayley Williams has sold her Good Dye Young hair color on Paramore’s Parahoy! cruises in recent years; and Melissa Etheridge raised money for her charitable foundation, which supports scientific research on opioid addiction. “That’s invaluable advertising,” Cuellar says. “Now everybody who’s there is converted: ‘I’m not only a fan of Hayley, I’m going out and spreading the word.’ ”

Artists who headline cruises participate in an economic “host model” as opposed to a standard flat-fee festival model, according to Cuellar. Part of their income is usually a guaranteed payment, similar to what they might receive at any land-based event. But they might also share some of the revenue from food and alcohol sales, which is not part of the deal for most concerts and festivals.

Most music cruises offer all-inclusive meal packages as part of the cost, but attendees pay extra for what Deb Klein, Etheridge’s manager, calls “onboard revenue” — including casinos, excursions in destination cities, art auctions and alcohol. Etheridge, whose most recent Sixthman headlining date was last fall, takes a guarantee, then participates in a 50-50 “rev share” deal for the rest of her salary, Klein says. (Transporting band, crew and freight to the cruise docks and on and off ships costs artists out of pocket.) “It’s really a joint venture,” Klein says. “Believe me, it’s a lot of work. For us, it’s about the community and the connection. And the finances, too.”

Overall music-cruise revenue, Bonamassa says, can be 30% to 50% higher than what a club promoter might pay for a Wednesday-night gig. So an artist making $10,000 for a dry-land festival date might make $15,000 for a cruise. (Nonheadliners’ salaries are comparable to traditional festivals, artist representatives say.) “Why does it cost more?” Bonamassa asks. “You’re doing multiple shows. You have the band and crew out there, you’re paying salaries for a week. By the time you add it all up, it’s an expensive undertaking.”

But other artist reps say expenses are low compared with traditional arena, amphitheater and festival dates. “The narrative you are going to hear from agents and managers is a justification for charging outrageous guarantees, because ‘you are locking up our band for a week and asking them to play multiple times,’ ” says Mark Willis, host partner for pro wrestler Chris Jericho’s Rock ’N’ Wrestling Rager at Sea, a Sixthman cruise that sails every January and stars Jericho’s own metal band, Fozzy. “But that agent/manager will never admit how much money their budget saves in accommodations and meals and drinks and backline and crew and staging and production and runners and bus drivers and hotels.”

As for the cost of admission, the ticket price is in line with a Bonnaroo or Coachella VIP experience, with Sixthman more like a travel agent than a box office, helping fans coordinate advance planning for food, lodging and transportation in addition to the concerts themselves. Attendees are what land-based concerts and festivals might call “super VIPs,” Cuellar adds — they pay extra to experience artist meet-and-greets, unexpected musical collaborations and glimpses of, say, The Beach Boys participating in a Family Feud game somewhere on deck or singer Mike Love bowling (as they did on their own cruise). Lovett has spied his bandmates playing poker in the ship’s casino. Headlining artists can “curate” their own festivals, too: Flogging Molly, for its cruise in November, will offer “the only floating skate ramp that I’m aware of,” says Brennan, and during its cruise, 311 plays basketball with fans. “Every aspect of the cruise is a chance for you to be involved financially and creatively,” he adds.

When cruises restarted in mid-2021, they required proof of vaccination and conducted COVID-19 testing on board — which worked for early music-cruise headliners such as Etheridge, who was doing the same for her own shows at the time. For Norwegian, COVID-19 remains a concern: In its December financial filings, the organization predicted the virus will still have “a significant impact on the company’s financial results and liquidity.”

But from a concert-business perspective, cruise-ship life is back to normal. “For a while, it seemed like, ‘Were people going to want to do these things anymore?’ ” says Bob McLynn, whose management clients include Train. “Just like the live industry, as far as I’m concerned, it’s fully back.”
