Legendary rock band The Rolling Stones sent Aussie fans into overdrive this week with rumours that the band will announce Australian tour dates soon.

While Frontier Touring shut down the gossip, other promoters have told The Daily Telegraph  that the band are keen to extend their 60th anniversary tour beyond 2022 and Australia may very well be on the cards.

The band, which consists of  Mick Jagger , Keith Richards and Ronnie Wood , last toured Australia in 2014.

There's also no word on Eminem, Beyoncé and Metallica heading Down Under either.

Meanwhile, Rod Stewart, Slipknot and Iron Maiden are yet to announce their rescheduled dates after pulling out of their recent tours.

The Rolling Stones recently returned to the stage at the beginning of July after postponing their show for a month.

Their reason for the delay was that Mick had tested positive for COVID-19.

And last month, the rock star shared an update with his fans insisting that he was 'feeling much better' and thanked them all for their well wishes.

Taking to Instagram, Jagger said: 'Thank you all so much for your well wishes and messages the last few days.'

He signed off: 'See you soon! Mick'.

Keith Richards Confirms New Music And A Tour On The Way For The Rolling Stones

by Paul Cashmere on January 12, 2023

Keith Richards is a few weeks late to the (New Years Eve) party but he has finally turned up to wish us all a Happy New Year and confirm new music and a tour is on the way.

In a post at his socials, Keith said, “Hi guys, here we are again. Wishing you all a belated Happy New Year. There is some new music on the way and hopefully we’ll get to see you. Anyway, lets keep our fingers crossed.”

The first thing we know definitely is coming from The Rolling Stones is the ‘GRRR Live!’ album on 10 February 2023. ‘GRRR Live!’ features the 15 December 2012 concert from Newark, New Jersey on the ’50 & Counting’ tour. The concert will feature guest appearances from The Black Keys, Gary Clark Jr, Lady Gaga, John Mayer, Bruce Springsteen & Mick Taylor.

What we are waiting to hear about is news on the long-awaited Rolling Stones studio album and a tour to go along with it. Ozzy Osbourne blabbed a few weeks ago that his producer Andrew Watt has been working on the new Stones album which we except to see by mid this year.

Ronnie Wood also confirmed a new Stones album will be released for the Northern Hemisphere summer, telling The Sun in 2022 “We are recording the new album now and we are going to LA in a few weeks to carry it on and finish it off.” We know a number of tracks were finished with Charlie Watts before he passed away and the remainder were done with new drummer Steve Jordan.

The last Rolling Stones album of original material was ‘A Bigger Bang’ in 2005. In 2016 they released the blues covers album ‘Blue & Lonesome’. 2012 also had two new tracks with ‘Doom and Gloom’ and ‘One More Shot’ included on the ‘GRRR’ compilation.

The last new music from The Stones was ‘Living In A Ghost Town’ in 2020. It has been performed live but, to date, has not been included on any albums.

As for a tour, the Stones played their ‘Sixty’ tour dates across Europe, in 2021 there was the ‘No Filter’ tour in North America and Europe in 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2021. In 2016 there were the ‘In The Desert’ dates for America and ‘America Latina Ole’ dates for South America. North America had the Zip Code dates in 2015. The last time The Rolling Stones played in Australia was on the ’14 on Fire’ tour of 2014.

At this stage there is speculation of a return to Australia and New Zealand on the upcoming tour. With a new album, the tour tends to be a World Tour, but that is all guess work right now. The recent shorter tours were to accommodate Charlie. With Steve Jordan, it is very possible that The Stones will once again embark on a World tour, especially with a new album to spruik up.

Rolling Stones announce first album of new music in 18 years, bring Sydney Sweeney along for the ride

Composite photo of The Rolling Stones and Sydney Sweeney

They might be six decades into their rock career but the Rolling Stones have announced the release plan for their new album Hackney Diamonds.

Key points:

  • Hackney Diamonds is the first album of new music from the Rolling Stones since 2005
  • Late drummer Charlie Watts will feature on two songs from the 12-track album
  • Feature artists include Lady Gaga, Paul McCartney and Stevie Wonder

The new album will mark the first new music released by the band in 18 years.

Fans have been promised features from superstars  Lady Gaga , Paul McCartney and Stevie Wonder .

Poignantly, it also features Charlie Watts , the stalwart Stones drummer who died in 2021 after almost six decades in the band.

His drumming, recorded in 2019, features on two of the album’s dozen tracks, with Steve Jordan playing on the rest.

Launching the album in London's Hackney district on Wednesday, guitarist Keith Richards touched on the loss of Watts.

"Of course he's missed incredibly. But thanks to Charlie we have Steve Jordan, who was his recommendation if anything should happen to him," Richards said.

"It would have been a lot harder without Charlie’s blessing."

The first taste of the 12-track album is single Angry, which comes complete with a music video featuring White Lotus star Sydney Sweeney.

Sweeney is seen cruising LA's Sunset Boulevard in a red convertible, past billboards of the Stones from various eras.

Why did it take 18 years to release new music?

As to why the band waited almost two decades between albums, Richards said the timing was largely down to Mick Jagger.

"When you have a singer that wants to sing, you grab him and throw him in the studio," Richards told AP.

He said when they did get in the studio, the songs tumbled out with "energy and urgency".

Jagger, for his part, blamed the delay on laziness.

"I don't want to be big-headed but we wouldn't have put this album out if we hadn't really liked it," he said.

"We said we had to make a record we really love ourselves.

"We are quite pleased with it, we are not big-headed about it, but we hope you all like it."

The Stones released Blue & Lonesome in 2016, an album entirely made up of Blues covers.

The Rolling Stones launched their forthcoming album, Hackney Diamonds, in London with comedian Jimmy Fallon.

Superstar features and special sounds

While Angry carries the trademark jagged Stones vibe, Jagger said the album also contained “love songs, ballads, country-type” sounds.

Recorded in studios around the world, the new album sees the Stones team up with Grammy-winning producer Andrew Watt (Ozzy Osbourne, Miley Cyrus, Justin Bieber, Post Malone), who helped assemble the starry guest list.

But one of the albums featured vocalists came by accident.

Jagger said Lady Gaga — who sings on "Sweet Sound of Heaven" — was recording in a next-door studio while the Stones were in Los Angeles and ended up on the album after she popped in to say hello.

"She walked in next to me and we started singing together," Jagger said.

"She sang it live and then we went in and tidied it up a bit."

Rolling Stones rule out retirement

Founded in 1962, the Stones show no signs of planning to retire.

Frontman Mick Jagger recently turned 80, guitarist Keith Richards is 79 and bassist Ronnie Woods is 76.

Despite their age, the band is still on a consistent touring cycle.

The band played a 60th-anniversary tour of Europe in 2022, and Wood said they had an American tour "pencilled in" for next year.

Ronnie Wood said retirement would be "impossible."

"You've got to keep playing," he said.

Hackney Diamonds is slated for release on October 20 .

Hi there. The Rolling Stones in Prague the best show ever. The concert was absolutely amazing, fantastic, super great. The performance of the Rolling stones is in the highest quality, they are the living legend,I love them for ever and wish to all of them the best off everything. Thank you for unforgettable experience. So this was about the show, but I would like to tell you my worst nightmare I also had just before the concert. I bought three tickets from Viagogo office and to my horror I find out that the tickets were not valid and they were not in database. I paid 23.000KC.So to get to the event I've had to buy another three tickets for standing. THERE WAS MORE fans off the Rolling stones with some experience. I don't what to do about the matter. So this was MY best experience and the worst. Yours Luda Horakova Krasicka 53 Prostejov Czech republic .

The greatest rock n roll band in the world - No doubt about it. Mick, Keef, Charlie and Ronnie were sensational. From the opening Street Fighting Man to the encores of Gimme Shelter and Satisfaction they were as great as ever. Mick was the imperious frontman, Keith the axe wielding lunatic, Charlie the rock upon which the driving rhythms of Paint it Black are built, Ronnie the joker whose rhythm guitar convinces you the Stones play the devil’s music. Sensational just sensational. It was a privilege to be there.

The Rolling Stones concert was absolutely amazing. The singing, the music, the lighting, the fireworks and those large screens were great. They strutted their stuff through all the favourite numbers and some other great songs. Before you go, read the list of items not allowed inside the concert because you will lose them. Handbags larger than A5 size not allowed, including bumbags, cameras and camera bags, to name a few. All in All, everything went very smoothly, everyone loved it and we all had an amazing night, never to be forgotten.

The Rolling Stones Vs Australia: A Short History

By Greg Moskovitch

It’s now been confirmed that The Rolling Stones , arguably the world’s most legendary active rock and roll band, will soon be making their return to Australia to play a series of very special one-off shows around the country, with Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Perth, Hanging Rock and their previously announced show at the Adelaide Oval all on the cards.

The chatter first began in October, when it was revealed that the Adelaide government were vying to get the Stones to return to the country in which they’ve played some of their most memorable shows, and returning to a city in which they hadn’t played since they performed at Football Park in 1995.

The Stones have a storied history with our golden shores, notably marked by some unforgettable performances and some kerfuffles they probably wish we would forget. But, in the interest of the rock and roll education of our readers, and to celebrate the return of one of modern music’s greatest and most celebrated acts, Music Feeds has archived a few of the more interesting interactions that the mighty Stones have had with our fair land.

1. The First Tour

The Rolling Stones first toured Australia in January and February of 1965, at the very height of Stones fever and following the release of their second UK album, The Rolling Stones No. 2 , which netted them a classic Stones recording in the form of their cover of Time Is on My Side .

During their first trip, the band played two Melbourne gigs at St. Kilda’s Palais Theatre, three for lucky Sydney, two in Brisbane and single shows for Adelaide and Perth as part of a package tour with future legend Roy Orbison , The Newbeats , and Ray Columbus & the Invaders .

The Newbeats, Ray Columbus & The Invaders and the Stones all appeared on almost-forgotten Aussie music program Big Beat , with Jagger and band performing three tracks to playback.

2. Mick Jagger Is Ned Kelly

Who better to play Australia’s most notorious bushranger and iconic folk hero, than one of rock and roll’s most notorious frontmen and the subject of extensive rock apocrypha? This 1970 film was filmed entirely in Australia, with photography conducted mostly around Braidwood, near Canberra in NSW.

The film was an unmitigated success in making a bad film, so much so that, as of 1980, Jagger had never actually seen the picture. Neither Jagger nor the film’s director Tony Richardson attended the film’s London premiere, and the film was panned for being awkward and poorly paced.

You can see the carnage for yourself in the below clip, which features fake rain in sunlight, shabby continuity, Jagger’s woeful accent, casual racism and the world’s worst long jump contest.

3. Jagger Flops With The Director Of Walkabout

Nicolas Roeg is widely regarded as one of post-war cinema’s darkest and most calculating directors, his style notable for incredible cinematography and highly cerebral meditations on fish-out-of-water characters. He is arguably best known for his Australia-set 1971 film Walkabout .

Before that, however, and before Jagger starred as the bearded baddie Kelly, Roeg co-directed Jagger in the 1970 British crime drama Performance , which critic Richard Schickel described as “the most completely worthless film I have seen since I began reviewing.” Leave the films to Bowie, Mick.

4. Rolling Stones Pacific Tour 1973

By the ’70s, The Rolling Stones’ reputation as the troublemakers of rock and roll had truly been cemented. The band’s ’65 Australian shows were critically panned as a result of their reputation for being bad boys with long hair, and bad press and drug convictions were hounding the band.

Their 1973 ‘Pacific Tour’ was scheduled to bring the Stones back to Australia, which hadn’t seen the band since 1966, but was plagued by immigration troubles. Their 21st February show at Adelaide’s Memorial Drive Park saw 5,000 Stones fans clashing with local police, with 21 arrests made.

5. Brian Jones Dies, Mick Jagger Remembers Bondi

Sam Cutler , the band’s long-time tour manager, describes in his autobiography You Can’t Always Get What You Want: My Life With The Rolling Stones, The Grateful Dead and Other Wonderful Reprobates speaking to Mick Jagger about the death of Stones member Brian Jones .

Jones was found dead on the bottom of his pool in July 1969, which coroners ruled as misadventure, though some claim was murder. In the book Cutler describes an Australian tour moment Jagger shared with him upon hearing of Jones’ death.

Jagger told Cutler that the guitarist’s death couldn’t possibly have been a result of drowning, recalling a time when the Stones were at Bondi Beach in Sydney, and Jones “had swum so far out to sea that no-one could see him,” a testament to his strength as a swimmer.

Watch: Sam Cutler – You Can’t Always Get What You Want , Bondi interview

6. The Stones’ 2003 Enmore Theatre Show

For their 2003 visit to Australia, the band, now elder statesmen of rock, spent a week with their families and kids on some of the East Coast’s pleasure spots. Of course their gig at Sydney’s 2,000-seat Enmore Theatre proved that, while they may have been getting on in years, they were still an incendiary live act.

According to the ABC ‘s Hamish Fitzsimmons, who reported on the show, “Police had to block one the main roads in the inner west when the band took the stage and an impromptu street party got underway. Locals brought chairs and even a lounge down to the street for added comfort.”

And there was, of course, the guest appearance by AC/DC…

7. Aussie Reports Spark Rumours Of Charlie Watts’ Departure

Charlie Watts has a reputation as a contentious force in the Stones, once punching Mick Jagger in the mouth for referring to him as his drummer. “You’re my singer!” insisted Watts. So it wasn’t a huge shock when Aussie reports surfaced that he quit, even though they didn’t happen to be true.

The band were quick to rubbish the Herald Sun ‘s claims that Watts had retired from touring and was being replaced with another drummer, calling them “a fabricated and ill-informed report that appeared yesterday on a small music website in Australia”. Now that’s a burn.

Rolling Stones Add Concert Dates in Australia and New Zealand

By Eric R Danton

Eric R Danton

The Rolling Stones are augmenting a concert in Adelaide, Australia, with six additional dates down under next spring, according to an itinerary the posted on the band’s mobile app this morning.

Where Do the Rolling Stones Rank on Our 100 Greatest Artists List?

The rockers will now begin their trek March 19th in Perth and wrap up April 5th in Auckland, New Zealand. The Stones last performed in Australia and New Zealand in 2006 on their Bigger Bang tour. The group announced last month that they would inaugurate the Oval, a new stadium in Adelaide, with a concert there on March 22nd. Tickets sold out within three hours, the band reported.

An “info” page inside the app mentions “14 On Fire one night only concerts,” suggesting that the Stones could expand their itinerary with another seven shows.

After a handful of gigs late last year in London , New York and New Jersey , the Rolling Stones performed across North America this past spring and summer on their “50 and Counting” tour. They wrapped up with performances at the Glastonbury festival in England and Hyde Park in London, capturing the latter for the DVD and Blu-ray release Sweet Summer Sun – Hyde Park Live .

'We Leave Our Egos At The Door': How Nothing But Thieves Harnessed The Light On 'Dead Club City'

The Rolling Stones Announce Full Australian Tour Dates

What more can we say?

will the rolling stones tour australia in 2023

There's been talk of it happening for months, and now we can finally reveal the full details of The Rolling Stones ' imminent return to Australian shores for a quick run of shows in March of 2014 that are bound to have fans of all ages madly scrambling for tickets. The 14 On Fire tour sees them perform in capital cities around the country for one night only.

It seems ridiculous to even try and talk about why this is a big freakin' deal; there are no bands currently performing who are more important in the spectrum of rock'n'roll music – simple as that. Even if you don't like them (for Christ's sake, how could you not like them?) you need to know that this is a band that has essentially dominated the rock'n'roll world for 50 years and who still manage to put together enormous shows that draw

We got so excited about the prospect of a Rolling Stones tour that we polled our entire staff here at theMusic about their favourite Stones song. Here are the top ten tracks in playlist form!

Don't miss a beat with our FREE daily newsletter

You can subscribe to this awesome playlist here.

Anyway, enough about us, what do the band reckon about the shows?

“Can't wait to reconnect with all our friends in Australia and New Zealand,” frontman Mick Jagger says. “It's been a while since we've played to you all, so we are looking forward to being back on stage and playing your favourite songs.”

“We all had such a ball this year and so we wanted to keep it going!” guitarist Keith Richards adds. “The energy between the band is better than ever and we're all looking forward to coming back Down Under. I can't wait to get back on the stage with the boys.”

The band had already announced they would be the main attraction when the Adelaide Oval reopens early next year and promised further dates would be forthcoming. As many have tipped, the band will join the list of incredible acts – Leonard Cohen, Bruce Springsteen, Rod Stewart – who have performed at Hanging Rock when they make a special appearance there on Sunday 30 March.

Fomer guitarist Mick Taylor has been confirmed to appear at each of the Australian dates on this tour.

Promoter Michael Gudinski says that bringing out the legendary band sees him ticking a big feat off his personal bucket list.

“It's been a lifelong ambition of mine to bring the legendary Stones back down under and I cannot say how excited I am about their 2014 tour,” he says. “With just one night only confirmed for each city plus a very special one-off concert at Hanging Rock, this tour will be talked about for decades to come.”

This is the seventh time the Stones have toured Australia. We don't recommend waiting for an eighth.

Aussie Depeche Mode fans are an incredibly patient bunch. The last time the British synth-pop titans toured the country was in 1994, meaning nearly three decades have passed since they last paid us a visit. But good things come to those who wait, and it seems there is a glimmer of hope for those hoping to catch the band Down Under.

  • Gary Graff, special to cleveland.com

Rolling Stones fans in Cleveland will apparently have to wait awhile to get their satisfaction.

Last week, the trusted Rolling Stones Fan Club fan site It’s Only Rock ‘n’ Roll ( iorr.org ) reported rumors of a summer North American tour that would include a July 20 stop at FirstEnergy Stadium. Over the weekend, however, the site changed its tunes, reporting that, “The announcement of the Rolling Stones tour this summer has been canceled. The tour was including twelve shows in the USA and two shows in Canada. There might be a rescheduling for the fall.”

The Rolling Stones’ camp has not commented about touring plans for 2023, although guitarist Keith Richards, in a social media message last month, said that “there’s some new music on its way and hopefully we’ll get to see you.” The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame troupe has reportedly been working on a new album -- the first since the Grammy Award-winning covers album “Blue & Lonesome” in 2016 and the first of original material since “A Bigger Bang” in 2005 -- in New York and the Bahamas with producers Don Was and Andrew Watt.

The Stones were to bring its No Filter Tour to FirstEnergy on June 19, 2020, but that was postponed by the pandemic and ultimately canceled. The group hasn’t played in Cleveland since 2002, when its Licks Tour played at Gund Arena (now Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse).

The group did play in 2015 at Ohio Stadium in Columbus. The band has performed 11 times in Cleveland, starting in June of 1964 at Public Auditorium and including the World Series of Rock in 1975 at the old Cleveland Stadium.

The Stones ranked No. 7 on Forbes magazine’s new list of 2022′s highest-paid entertainers with $98 million.-- have not played in Ohio since drummer Charlie Watts passed away in 2021 at the age of 80.

In addition to their own new music, the Stones will be the subject of an all-star “Stone Cold Country” tribute album due out March 17.

Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour took over Houston in 2023. Can The Rolling Stones top it?

T he Rolling Stones tour is set to make a stop at NRG Stadium Sunday for the band’s first Houston concert since 2019. The performance comes on the heels of an album release by another music legend — Taylor Swift — whose three-day stop in Houston one year ago received shows of appreciation from fans and elected officials alike.

With the Stones' Hackney Diamonds Tour underway and Swift's 11th studio album , "The Tortured Poets Department,” that dropped last week, both music industry icons maintain dedicated fanbases worldwide.

The 1960s rock n' roll band has been performing for decades. The Stones hold a record for drawing one of the largest crowds in rock n’ roll history during a show in Rio de Janeiro , with 1.5 million people, PBS reported. Swift is no stranger to large crowds either, with one of her shows in Melbourne seeing more than 96,000 people, according to Deadline.

However, both music artists made their mark in Houston during their most recent concerts: the Stones' No Filter Tour in 2019 and Swift's Eras Tour in 2023. The success of their concerts highlighted their strong fanbases in the Bayou City.

TAYLOR SWIFT : Here's a look at Texas ties to the latest release 'The Tortured Poets Department'

How did the city react to The Rolling Stones' 2019 concert?

Excited fans first caught on to the Rolling Stones’ planned 2019 Houston concert when NRG Park teased the tour stop in an email. Park officials sent an email to subscribers with the band's logo at the end of the email and no further explanation.

The 2019 show would be the Stones’ first Houston appearance in more than 10 years. The group even teamed up with the NFL for a Houston Texans—Rolling Stones jersey.

NRG Stadium officials said the venue is happy to have the band back any time.

"We're thrilled to host the legendary Rolling Stones at NRG Stadium as the first stop on their Hackney Diamonds Tour. As Mick Jagger might say, 'Start me up' – and what better place to kick off this iconic tour than right here in Houston? We look forward to welcoming fans from near and far to enjoy a night of timeless rock 'n' roll classics. Get ready to rock the night away at NRG Stadium!" stadium officials said in a statement.

How did the city react to Taylor Swift's 2023 concert?

Houston was the second city on Swift's Eras Tour .

A marketing campaign was launched to temporarily rename NRG Stadium to "NRG Stadium - Taylor's Version," initiated by NRG Park and Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo's office. Banners were placed with the temporary name on the stadium's north and south entrances.

The City Hall also honored Swift and her mother, a University of Houston alum, by lighting the building in a “lavender haze.”

How many tickets were sold at The Rolling Stones' 2019 concert?

The Rolling Stones had to postpone their 2019 No Filter Tour dates in North America because of Mick Jagger’s heart surgery. But the rescheduled concert still brought in more than 40,000 fans for its one-night stop in Houston.

How many tickets were sold at Taylor Swift's 2023 concert?

During Taylor Swift's three sold-out performances at NRG Stadium, more than 180,000 tickets were distributed, which averaged about 60,000 a day.

The impact of Taylor Swift's 2023 concert in Houston

The impact of Taylor Swift's three-day tour in Houston wasn't only shown through the name change at NRG Stadium, but also in the economic impact.

Her tour happened the same weekend as a large convention downtown which likely contributed to the boost in Houston’s market, according to Houston First. Still, the organization found that the hotel market revenue was a whopping $34 million between April 21-23, 2023, which was a 30% increase from the same three days in 2022. The occupancy was about 78%.
