About the author

Marco Polo was the original, trailblazing tourist. He was born into a wealthy Venetian merchant family in 1254 and at the age of 17 he embarked on an epic journey to Asia, as one of the first westerners to ever visit China. When he returned 24 years later he recorded his extensive travels in a book – publishing possibly the first travel guide ever – and introducing Europeans to Central Asia and China.

Marco Polo’s travels have since inspired countless adventurers to set off and see the world. Allegedly, Christopher Columbus set off across the Atlantic with a copy of Marco Polo’s original book!

Travel Journal Review: My Way by Marco Polo

Oh you know me, just perving on another travel journal again. Standard. I think I have a problem.

This time it’s the brand new ‘My Way’ travel journals by Marco Polo Guides. You may remember I’ve featured some of their travel guides on here because I think they’re just great for city breaks. Well now they have released some bright-eyed and bushy-tailed journals ready to be filled with adventures!

The journals are split into three sections, ‘Before The Journey’, ‘On The Journey’ and ‘After The Journey’. And are mainly filled with nice dotted pages to fill.

But to make these journals extra special the back of the books are filled with themed stickers you can use in your writing from emoticons to headings! There is also the obligatory slot at the back of the journal for saving ticket stubs and postcards from your trip. Love those.

Overall, I liked the simplicity of these journals. There are lots of pages to fill which is what you want from your travel diary and the themed stickers are a nice touch. I’ve just featured two cover designs in this post but there are actually four designs to choose from and they retail at £7.99 which is pretty good.

The My Way Marco Polo Travel Journal is a handy-sized travel book with a difference. Basically it contains no words, information, plots, maps or advice (apart from a few themed stickers and emoticons) – just lots of lovely blank pages waiting to be filled up by the book’s owner.

In other words the story will be told by the traveller him/herself– a travel diary.

Sensibly the book is divided into three sections – Before the Journey (handy for notes on all the things you want to do and see, things to take, etc); On the Journey and a few pages for After the Journey (memorable highlights) – plus a reasonable size pocket for keepsakes such as tickets and special post cards.

And later on, back home, it will look good on the book shelves. A splendid idea.
