RIVAL SONS Announce May/June 2023 U.S. Tour, Share 'Bird In The Hand' Single

Two-time- Grammy -nominated band RIVAL SONS has shared a new single, "Bird In The Hand" , which is available today on all streaming platforms. It stands out as the latest anthem to be unveiled from the group's upcoming full-length album, "Darkfighter" , set for release on June 2.

Commenting on the new track, vocalist Jay Buchannan noted: "There's a lyric in there, 'Let's go down to the river where the water runs still and deep, to scatter the ashes of the mess I used to be.' You can burn through a whole lot of time just trying to find your lane, your realized intention. At some point you accept reincarnation as a waking process. Build, refine and burn again and again and the lyric, 'A bird in the hand, now that's a miracle I can believe' is the immersive commitment to the present."

In support of new LP, RIVAL SONS will embark on an extensive five-week North American headline run dubbed "The Darkfighter Tour" which will feature support from THE BLACK ANGELS , THE RECORD COMPANY and STARCRAWLER on select dates. The trek kicks off on May 11 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma at the Diamond Ballroom, visits major markets across the country, and concludes on June 18 in Denver, Colorado at the Ogden Theatre. In between, the band will perform at a handful of festivals such as Welcome To Rockville in Daytona Beach, Florida on May 20 and Sonic Temple in Columbus, Ohio on May 27.

"SO happy to finally announce our full North America headline tour and have new music to play for you," exclaimed guitarist Scott Holiday . "Expect this tour to comprise of the forthcoming 'Darkfighter' album in its entirety, along with familiar songs and a few deeper cuts. We're working on plans to make it extra special. With a big added bonus of the incredible acts we're taking with us: THE BLACK ANGELS , THE RECORD COMPANY and STARCRAWLER . It's going to make for a REALLY fantastic night of music!"

Heightening excitement for this next chapter of RIVAL SONS , the band has also shared details of a companion album titled "Lightbringer" — due out in late 2023.

Expanding on the two-album set, Buchanan commented: "In comparison to our previous records, we certainly took our time both writing and recording this collection. When we set out, the intention was mostly to dig as deep as possible. Even in the beginning before the body had formed, we agreed to throw the map away and chop our way through the woods to make a new path. Then lockdown hit and it felt like the whole damn country decided to throw the map away too. For myself, 2022 was like an eight-stage rocket of life changing events, so every time I thought I was finished writing, a new bull would come tearing through the clothesline and I'd have to illustrate it in some way. By the end, there were really two different sides to the same story being told. On one side, you're fighting the darkness and, on the other, you're bringing your own light to where there is none. One side in a corner, on the ropes, and the other advancing, cleaning the ring. Without an intermission, a refractory period, the collection would be too big a bite, so splitting it in two was the only way to do it."

"Darkfighter" and "Lightbringer" were both produced by longtime collaborator and multi- Grammy Award -winner Dave Cobb . These albums mark the first new music from RIVAL SONS since the release of 2019's "Feral Roots" , which earned the band two Grammy Award nominations.

In 2021, RIVAL SONS celebrated the 10th anniversary of their 2011 album, "Pressure And Time" , by performing the landmark longplayer live in its entirety on the "Pressure And Time" tour for the first time. They also lit up Southern California with a two-night livestream event, "Rival Sons: Pair Of Aces" , live from the historic Catalina Casino on Santa Catalina Island. They performed their debut LP, "Before The Fire" (2009),in its entirety on the first night and their self-titled EP, "Rival Sons" (2010),on the second.

"Darkfighter" track listing:

01. Mirrors 02. Nobody Wants To Die 03. Bird In The Hand 04. Bright Light 05. Rapture 06. Guillotine 07. Horses Breath 08. Darkside

RIVAL SONS is Jay Buchanan (vocals, harmonica, rhythm guitar), Scott Holiday (lead guitar), Mike Miley (drums) and Dave Beste (bass).

Greta Van Fleet announce 2022 world tour

Greta Van Fleet are to head off on tour in support of their recent album The Battle At Garden’s Gate in 2022

Greta Van Fleet

Greta Van Fleet have announced that they will be hitting the road for a world tour in 2022.

The Dreams And Gold tour will see the quartet play songs from their most recent album The Battle At Garden's Gate. It will kick off on March 10 in Kalamazoo, MI and come to a close on June 29 in Manchester, UK.

Playing in support on the dates in the United States will be Rival Sons and the Velveteers.

Earlier this year, Greta Van Fleet's frontman Josh Kiszka hit back at Kiss' Gene Simmons for suggesting that "rock is dead".

"Maybe the world of rock [Gene] remembers is dead” Kizka said. “It seems like every once in a while, a generation reinterprets what that is… and I’ve heard a lot, throughout the years, I guess people blowing hot air about…I think rock and roll can become dormant, but you can’t kill something that supersedes time.”

Tickets for the shows go on sale on November 12 on Live Nation. There will also be a pre-sale on November 10 which can be purchased from the tour's website.

See  HERE for more info and a complete list of dates follows below.

Strange Horizons, the band’s specialty events in 2021, saw sold-out shows in Nashville, Bridgeport, Chicago and Los Angeles. The group’s critically acclaimed album  The Battle at Garden’s Gate  was released earlier this year to extensive chart success and fanfare, debuting at  #1 Billboard Rock Album, #1 Billboard Hard Rock Album, #1 Billboard Vinyl Album, #2 Billboard Top Album Sales  and in the  Top 10  on the  Billboard 200 .

The Battle at Garden’s Gate  explores the boundaries of the group’s artistry and reflects heavily on the individual members’ personal and spiritual growth during their rapid rise. “There was a lot of self-evolution happening during the writing of this album that was prompted by experiences I had, experiences we all had,” explains vocalist Josh Kiszka. “It’s reflecting a lot of the world that we’ve seen, and I think that it’s reflecting a lot of personal truth,” says guitarist Jake Kiszka.

Forming in Frankenmuth, Michigan back in 2012, Greta Van Fleet consists of three brothers, vocalist Josh Kiszka, guitarist Jake Kiszka, bassist/keyboardist Sam Kiszka, as well as drummer Danny Wagner. Together they have performed across multiple continents, sold over two million albums worldwide, performed on late night television shows, topped the Billboard U.S. Mainstream Rock and Active Rock charts and won the Grammy Award for Best Rock Album in 2019.

Greta Van Fleet Details 2022 ‘Dreams in Gold’ Tour with Rival Sons & The Velveteers (Tix on Sale 11/12)

greta van fleet tour 2022

Back in April, dynamic young band Greta Van Fleet reaffirmed its status as one of the foremost entities in rock music today with The Battle At Garden’s Gate , a new studio album produced by Greg Kurstin that landed atop the Billboard Rock charts .

Next year, the group will head out on a massive headlining tour in support of the record and its earlier material, including the songs that put the group on the map a few years back.

The Dreams in Gold Tour, announced officially on Tuesday, features special guests Rival Sons and The Velveteers. Tickets will go on sale starting this Friday, Nov. 12.

Here are the dates:

March 10—Wings Event Center—Kalamazoo, MI March 12—The DeltaPlex Arena—Grand Rapids, MI March 13—Dow Event Center—Saginaw, MI March 16—Dort Financial Center—Flint, MI March 17—EMU Convocation Center—Ypsilanti, MI March 19— Mountain Health Arena—Huntington, WV March 22—Kohl Center—Madison, WI March 23—Resch Center—Green Bay, WI March 25—CHI Health Center Omaha—Omaha, NE March 26— Peoria Civic Center—Peoria, IL March 29—Heritage Bank Center—Cincinnati, OH March 30— GIANT Center — Hershey, PA April 1—Hard Rock Live at Etess Arena—Atlantic City, NJ April 2—Hard Rock Live at Etess Arena—Atlantic City, NJ May 3 —Qualistage — Rio de Janeiro, Brazil May 16—Pepsi Center—Mexico City, Mexico June 5—Grona Lund—Stockholm, Sweden June 11—Theatre Antique de Vienne—Vienne, France June 14—Tanzbrunnen—Cologne, Germany June 15—Jarhunderthalle—Frankfurt, Germany June 23—Fairview—Dublin, Ireland June 25—Alexandra Palace, London, UK June 28—O2 Apollo—Manchester, UK June 29—O2 Apollo—Manchester, UK

If you haven’t yet listened to the latest Greta Van Fleet record, you should fix that.

The Battle at Garden’s Gate , much like everything else the band does, is steeped in themes of uplift:

“The Battle at Garden’s Gate is about hope and overcoming the challenges that humanity faces,”  says bassist/backing vocalist Sam Kiszka.  “We live in a world powered by superficial institutions and this album is a reminder that it’s up to us to sing out of the silence.”

Quotes like that hint at the grandiosity that is at work with Greta Van Fleet, a stylization that further adds to the group’s “throwback” appeal that is on full display throughout the new album.

Greta Van Fleet Kick Off 2022 Tour in Michigan: Recap + Setlist

The post Greta Van Fleet Kick Off 2022 Tour in Michigan: Recap + Setlist appeared first on Consequence .

Greta Van Fleet opened their “Dreams in Gold” tour in Kalamazoo on Thursday (March 10th), kicking off the run in their homeland of Michigan with the first of five dates in the state. With support from the Rival Sons and Velveteers, Greta Van Fleet left the Wings Event Center with a distinct taste of rock and a night to remember.

First, The Velveteers took to the stage, opening with “Motel #27.” The Colorado trio, led by singer Demi Demitro, set the mood for an energetic evening; Demitro thrashed appropriately as she sang about a hazy and uneasy world of loving.

Next was Long Beach, California’s Rival Sons, who also held their own in a competition of which opener could wow fans the quickest. For those unfamiliar with the five-piece, they are old enough to have a few grays, and cool enough that you want them to be your uncles. As they grooved into “Electric Man,” frontman Jay Buchanan effortlessly captivated the crowd.

Then it was time for the main event. Black curtains hiding the headliner’s set blew back, and the introductory instrumental of “The Weight of Dreams” from the band’s 2021 album The Battle at Garden’s Gate was heard beneath the audience’s anticipatory screams.

Fear not, GVF is intent on checking every box: new songs, old songs, drum solo, repeat. A rendition of “Black Smoke Rising” against lights of white and red rolled into the thunderous “Caravel,” before frontman Josh Kiszka formally welcomed the crowd.

Editor's Pick

How to Get Tickets to Greta Van Fleet’s 2022 Tour

As the three-ringed towers circling the stage turned blue, guitarist Jake Kiszka embarked upon another solo, this one seemingly a lost friend of “Weight of Dreams.” (A note about Kiszka: on this tour, more than ever, it’s clear that he’s secured his place among modern rock royalty. Leaned back, hair cascading, you’d think this is his one and only natural state — that once we all go home, he’ll still be there tomorrow, waging a war between his fingers and winning every time.) Then the strings slowed into a methodic rotation, automatic and dreary as “Age of Machine” took hold.

Spells of celebration and wonder were cast over the audience with tracks like the unhinged “Trip the Light Fantastic,” while fire danced and smoke streamed across the stage for the reflective “The Weight of Dreams.” While GVF is certainly future-facing, they also honored where they’ve been, including earlier tracks like “Watching Over” and “Age of Man.”

As the night wound down, the band played “When the Curtain Falls” (yes, a little on the nose, but like most everything GVF does, it works). Next, whistles bounced off the walls and “GRETA” became the only intelligible word as the crowd realized they might have to work for an encore.

After the band returned, hands formed hearts GVF threw it back with a performance of “Age of Man” from their 2017 EP From the Fires . The extended rendition was complete with the string players sharing center stage as Jake played guitar behind his head, voice nearly drowned out by the screams. Finally, “Highway Tune” and the rambunctious hit “My Way, Soon” capped off the set.

Hands stayed up as the lights turned on. A sea of velvet, bell bottoms, and gold indiciated fans dispersing in waves, at once exhausted, energized, and wanting to relive the night as soon as they reached their cars.

As much as the “Dreams in Gold” tour is about escapism, its brilliance is in the universe the band has built out of our own — mirroring the constant duality in our daily lives, and bridging the thematic and sonic realities of medieval and modern times in a somehow simultaneously timeless and timely discography that will live on through the ages. It’s clear Greta Van Fleet only goes big, even if they are at home.

Greta Van Fleet next perform on Saturday, March 12th at the The DeltaPlex Arena in Grand Rapids, MI. Tickets for that show, and for the rest of the tour, are available via Ticketmaster .

Greta Van Fleet with Rival Sons and The Velveteers Concert Review

Greta Van Fleet with Rival Sons and The Velveteers Concert Review Peoria Civic Center Peoria, Illinois Monday July 25th, 2022

Greta Van Fleet

Greta Van Fleet

The Dreams in Gold Tour finally made its way to Peoria, Illinois after being delayed by Covid. The Peoria Civic Center show was sold out. I accurately predicted that Greta Van Fleet would be selling out arenas when they came to Peoria in 2017 and sold out the Limelight for Nutcracker. Read my review and see how much they have changed here: Nutcracker 2017 . Greta Van Fleet has had a meteoric rise over the past five years. The band comes from Frankenmuth, Michigan and now have begun touring all over the world. You may have heard them on the radio and been interested because they sould like Led Zeppelin. Or your friends may have told you about them and you started listening and love them. Their newest album is The Battle at Garden’s Gate and is out now.

The Dreams in Gold Tour is joined by The Velveteers and Rival Sons. The Velveteers were the first openers. The band is a three piece rock band from Boulder, Colorado. They are in the space between hard rock and punk. The band consists of vocalist, guitarist Demi Demitro, drummer Baby Pottersmith and drummer, keyboardist, Jonny Fig. The Velveteers debut album, Nightmare Daydream , was released October 8, 2021. Their live show instantly grabbed the attention of the fans. Their dual drum kit was sitting close to the front of the stage. The energy was frenetic from the start. Baby Pottersmith took their drum into the crowd and the crowd helped them hold it while they did not miss a beat. Find out more on their website: The Velveteers

Rival Sons tooks the stage next. They are a Grammy nominated rock band from Long Beach, California. The band consists of vocalist Jay Buchanan, guitarist Scott Holiday, bassist Dave Beste, and drummer Michael Miley. Rivals Sons were impressive performers. They impressed the crowd with their blues rock sound. Their setlist included “Electric Man”, “Do Your Worst”, and “Nobody Wants to Die”. During their set, they took time to dedicate an acoustic version of “Shooting Stars” to Ukraine. You can see where they are next on their website: Rival Sons

Greta Van Fleet sold out Peoria Civic Center with a capacity of twelve thousand. The band consists of brothers, vocalist Josh Kiszka, bassist Sam Kiszka, and guitarist Jake Kiszka and drummer Danny Wagner. Sam and Jake are twins. I know critics of Greta Van Fleet will say that they are not the best technical artists. The band has a huge following of fans of all ages. I met people who were seventy and then many young girls who were right in the front row. They are not passing fans of the band. They actually knew all the songs. The fashion for the fans consisted of a lot of velvet and see through. The outfits ran the gamut of hippie fashion to punk to just plain black t-shirt and jeans.

What impresses me about Greta Van Fleet is their draw of fans to rock music. Many of the fans would never listen Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, or Jethro Tull but they may now to hear the comparisons. The band has matured in sound and presence in leaps and bounds over the past few years. According to their Spotify artist profile, “Expectations may run high, but Greta Van Fleet is indifferent to opinion. The band doesn’t have to say a certain thing or act a certain way to convince anyone of their capacity. All they have to do is play.”

The stage was all white with keyboards on risers and the drum kit on a riser also. The band took the stage barefoot as that is how they like to perform. Josh wore a gold jumpsuit with a gauzy royal looking gold floor length jacket. He has gold accents on his the tops of his cheeks. Sam wore a suit jacket with a left wing and no shirt. Jake wore an embroidered suit jacket and no shirt. Danny Wagner was almost unrecognizable as he had dark eye make-up looking every bit of a glam rock star. He also had a gold and black tank top. On the stage, behind the band were space age looking lighted rings. During the performance, pyrotechnics of fire and cannons went off during the show. The pyro must have made them hot because Sam lost the suit jacket about halfway through and performed shirtless. There were light boards that made rainbows during their set. They played and improvised their songs. Jake Kiszka did that trick of playing behind his head. One song the band was jamming for over twenty minutes. Jake was playing guitar non-stop, Sam was on keys and Danny keeping the beat with Josh interspersing short vocals.

If you can make it to one of their shows, it is a must see this year. We cannot wait to see what the future holds for rock music and Greta Van Fleet.

Greta Van Fleet with Rival Sons and The Velveteers Concert Review — 2 Comments

07.29.2022 Friday. I just them all in Hershey PA Giant Center. Hershey Giant Center not good for live concerts as it is a sports stadium arena not meant for live shows sound quality not the best nor clear. Anyway, my first but not last time seeing GVF live. Yes, GVF obvious Led Zeppelin influence but never a bad thing. Other influences are Queen Black Crowes Joe Cocker etc. Second time seeing Rival Sons live. The first time MSG NYC opening for Black Sabbath 2018. Always solid songs and performances. The Velveteers were awesome too but not enough use of the stage and amplifiers because opening band. Awesome show nonetheless. It was amazing how many young people were there and the gals all ages dressed in the 1960s 1970s clothing styles. Will be interesting to see where GVF is in 10-20yrs from now. These three bands show that rock n roll ain’t dead and won’t be going anywhere anytime soon.

I agree that it was great to see that rock n roll is definitely alive and well!!

With the Frankenmuth-bred stars playing five Michigan shows in a single week, the homecoming run began with a pyrotechnic flourish at Wings Event Center Thursday. Photos, set list.

Greta Van Fleet’s Michigan homecoming has begun with a bang.

With a sold-out crowd of 6,000-plus at Kalamazoo’s Wings Event Center cheering them on, the young new mantle bearers of ’70s-inspired hard rock unleashed a solid 90-minute set on Thursday night before launching into an encore filled with pyrotechnics and dazzling lights.

The Frankenmuth-bred band – which plays four more Michigan shows over the next week, including Saturday’s stop at Grand Rapids’ DeltaPlex Arena – is touring behind its 2021 album, “The Battle at Garden’s Gate.” And clearly, there’s pent-up demand for its live spectacle after the COVID shutdown.

“This is what we live for,” one fan exclaimed amid a throng that included attendees from beyond the Great Lakes State, with devotees traveling to the show from as far away as Texas, Minnesota, Indiana and Illinois.

Before the show, fans snapped photos in the lobby and lined up to buy T-shirts and other merchandise, many clad in outfits fitting for the band’s modern take on classic rock.

Launching with “Heat Above” – the opening track from GVF’s latest album – the band also rolled out longtime fan favorites from earlier releases, including “Black Smoke Rising” and “Highway Tune,” the latter unfurled during an encore that closed out the show with “My Way, Soon” from “The Battle at Garden’s Gate.”

Through it all, fans smiled, sang along and even shed tears. Before it even began, a proud band mother was even spotted taking video of the capacity stadium crowd as fans cheered, waved and started to chant for GVF to take the stage — an amazing scene for a band that not so long ago was opening for touring acts at The Intersection.

Colorado’s The Velveteers and California’s Rival Sons opened the show, setting the stage for GVF and its extensive Michigan run on the “Dreams in Gold” tour. Some tickets for Saturday’s DeltaPlex show — $67 — are available online here . – Derek Ketchum

The Golden 1 Center beamed brightly on Tuesday evening as Greta Van Fleet’s “Dreams In Gold Tour” came to a bittersweet close in Sacramento, California. With the last remnants of golden hour dancing below the auspicious clouds, an array of concert goers filled the arena with the most beautiful energy.

Through dusk’s moody hues, nightfall welcomed the powerhouse opener Rival Sons . Performing several of their hit songs, such as “Do Your Worst” from their 2019 album  Feral Roots , lead singer Jay Buchanan demanded the stage with his astounding vocal range and unbelievable stage presence. During the band’s performance of “Shooting Stars” from their 2019 album  Feral Roots , the audience was aglow. One by one, cellphones began to light up the venue, like a bioluminescent sea. Drummer Michael Miley smoothly walked through the pit with cellphone in hand, documenting this dazzling moment and interacting with adoring fans at barricade. The mesmerizing white sparkle continued as Rival Sons prepared the audience for their awaited voyage.

As the glimmer diminished, a piratical and sail like banner billowed from above the stage, adorned with the golden signature symbols from Greta Van Fleet’s sophomore album, The Battle at Garden’s Gate . Masking the achromatic staging, the audience began to applaud in anticipation for the voyage to take flight. A steady rhythm of instrumentals introduced the impactful words from lead singer Josh Kiszka. Words of peace, love, and living life freely, which rang true with the captivated audience. As percussion began, harmonious vocals entranced the crowd, while flashes of white light displayed silhouettes of the concealed staging, instruments and musicians. Flickers of amber and red accompanied Josh’s soaring vocals and lead guitarist Jake Kiszka’s riffing, as the Frankenmuth, Michigan natives took the stage, playing “Built by Nations” from their 2021 album, The Battle at Garden’s Gate .

rival sons greta van fleet tour

The black and gold banner elegantly rippled downwards, revealing the stage. The audience cheered wildly and sang along to each lyric. Adorned in gilded and rhinestone embellishments, Josh took a moment to thank concert goers in attendance. Expressing his appreciation for everyone joining them throughout this tour and coming together to celebrate their tour’s grand finale. Performing hit after hit, including four new songs, it was evident that this band of brothers and childhood friends were rocking Sacramento to its core. Pyrotechnics, dragonfire flames, and rainbow illumination lit up each song. From “Heat Above” to “The Weight of Dreams” from their 2021 album, The Battle at Garden’s Gate , they had the audience roaring. The impeccable synergy that all four band members share (Josh Kiszka, Jake Kiszka, Sam Kiszka, and Daniel Wagner) is refreshing to say the least. Combined with their phenomenal skills and playful showmanship, they truly have an unparalleled energy all their own.

Once each band member left the stage, the audience chanted for an encore. After a quick wardrobe change, the band took to the stage once more, performing “That’s Alright” from Elvis Presley’s 1956 album  Rock n’ Roll  and “Highway Tune” from their 2017 album,  From The Fires . Engaging with the audience, Josh welcomed festive boas and decorated hats from the fans. He, Sam, and Daniel continued performing with their newly added flair. While Jake hammered away on the electric guitar, Josh, Sam, and Danny took shots with concert goers at barricade.

As the final notes of “Highway Tune” rang, a secondary banner rhythmically glided downwards, revealing the title Starcatcher.  A truly tremendous and celebratory evening, filled with endless revelry, as the band ascended to the stars as one with the audience.

Greta Van Fleet is a four-person rock band originally formed in Frankenmuth, Michigan back in 2012, when twins Josh and Jake Kiszka, their younger brother, Sam, and Danny Wagner were only teenagers.

Now, with a Grammy for Best Rock Album — awarded for “From the Fires” in 2019 — and more than four million monthly listeners on Spotify, the band has expanded their range to include more than just the (already flattering) comparisons to Led Zeppelin, but also their own, established sound and fanbase. Their albums “Anthem of the Peaceful Army,” “The Battle at Garden’s Gate,” and more recently, “Starcatcher,” all topped Billboard’s rock band rankings.

Don’t miss Greta Van Fleet ’s upcoming home-state show in Grand Rapids. Van Andel Arena tickets are still available for Sunday, May 19.

  20. Rival Sons Opening : r/gretavanfleet

From what I've seen, the Rival Sons guys seemed pretty cool about opening for greta. Even the drummer made a post about being super grateful for the GVF fans. Reply.

As a big Greta Van Fleet fan, and a massive Rival Sons fan this is possibly the most god awful, spine tingling, palm sweating, nausea inducing, neanderthalic, barbaric, braindead, brutish, cantankerously vile takes in the history of all debate and conversation.
