Port Coco Cay cruise ship schedule shows timetable calendars of all arrival and departure dates by month. The port's schedule lists all ships (in links) with cruises going to or leaving from Coco Cay, Bahamas, Royal Caribbean. To see the full itineraries (ports of call dates and arrival / departure times) and their lowest rates – just follow the corresponding ship-link.

CoCo Cay Island (officially Little Stirrup Cay ) is one of Bahamas' Berry Islands, an archipelago of small isles and cays. It is located approx 55 mi (90 km) north of Nassau The island is privately leased and used exclusively by RCG-Royal Caribbean Group-owned ships for cruise tourism purposes.

CocoCay is adjacent to the NCL-Norwegian Cruise Line 's private island Great Stirrup Cay . The nearest large island is Great Harbour Cay .

CocoCay is one of Royal Caribbean's "Perfect Day Island Collection" - privately developed land destinations in the regions of the Caribbean, Asia and Australia ( Lelepa Vanuatu ).

RCG's "Island Collection" project's total budget is USD 200 million. The first ship scheduled to visit the new "Perfect Day CocoCay" was Navigator of the Seas - during the 3-day Bahamas cruise (May 3-6, 2019) from Miami to CocoCay (May 4) and Nassau (May 5).

Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd (RCCL), which owns the brands Azamara , Celebrity , and RCI-Royal Caribbean International , assumed the lease of the isle upon Admiral Cruises' acquisition and renamed it Coco Cay. RCCL is one of the first companies to lease islands for exclusive use.

CocoCay has width ~1 mi / 1,5 km (east to west).

Most of the tourist activities are in its eastern part, where are also the beaches. They front a coral reef basin. On the island's northern side, there is a covered pier where the ship's tender boats dock to embark/disembark passengers.

For winter 2024-2025 season (October-November thru April), RCG's subsidiary Celebrity Cruises deployed in the Caribbean 4x ships ( Apex , Constellation , Equinox , Summit ) whose schedules included visits to CocoCay. For the first time ever, the travel brand scheduled visits to CocoCay in 2024 April, with 2x ships ( Beyond , Reflection ) both leaving roundtrip from Fort Lauderdale. Celebrity's USA homeports were 3x and all in Florida ( Port Canaveral/Orlando , Port Everglades/Fort Lauderdale , Tampa ). Those special voyages were open for booking on August 22nd, 2023.

CocoCay Island refurbishments 2015-2019

CocoCay was refurbished and expanded in the years 2015, 2016, 2017-2018, and in 2018-2019. With each project completed, to the island were added new venues, amenities and services, and many of the existing ones were redesigned, expanded and upgraded.

In mid-March 2018 was announced the private island renovation project ("Perfect Day at CocoCay"). It was completed in phases (starting September 2018). The official opening was on May 4, 2019 (most new attractions). The full completion was in December 2019 (when South Beach and Coco Beach Club were inaugurated).

For season 2020, RCI estimated that the island will be visited by 2+ million tourists. RCI also considered the option for 3-ship calls per day, thus increasing the island's max daily passenger capacity from 6000 to 12000 (with bigger liners ).

In 2023, CocoCay's facilities were expanded to easily accommodate up to 13000 guests daily.

Refurbishment 2015

In 2015, to CocoCay's amenities were added:

  • The old cabanas ("cabanettes", accommodating 2 guests) were renamed to "Beach Loungers". Cabana rental costs USD 59 (for 2 guests) and includes 2 bottles of water (in a cooler), towels, 2 beach mats (floating) and a fruit plate. Alternatively, beach mats cost USD 18 PP. UPDATE: Since September 2016, RCI lowered the beach lounger rental to USD 45 and "regrettably" removed all amenities previously included in the deal.
  • Previously, Royal Caribbean passengers were provided with tractor-pulled shuttle transportation as an alternative to long-distance walks. In 2015 were added new trams, which are quieter and taller, and the ride is smoother.
  • Previously, the tram's path was south of the nature trail (passing by the barracks and ending east of the cabanas. The 2015-added new tram route is shorter, running north of the nature trail and also ending east of the cabanas.
  • A new freshwater shower was added to the Barefoot Beach area (north of Beach Lounger Bar).

Note: For cabana rental prices see at port's "tours, shore excursion" section (at page bottom).

As a cabana alternative, on the South Beach (fka Barefoot Beach) are offered the new Beach Loungers - shaded (clamshell) loungers called "cabanette". Upon arrival, you go to the open-air bar area, meet your attendant and get towels.

  • Loungers are available on a first-come-first-served basis.
  • Coco Loco (souvenir cups) are available at the beach bar.
  • The new Floating Bar is located just a quick walk away from the lounger area.
  • Beach Loungers can be pre-cruise booked (reserved) via the RCI's "Cruise Planner". Note: You only need to book the lounger under one person.

Refurbishment 2016

Among CocoCay's newly added amenities is the new swim-up bar located near Barefoot Beach (aka South Beach). The new bar is adults-only and was inaugurated in July 2016. It is freely floating in the ocean, meaning to get a drink the island's visitors have to swim to it. The bar's rules forbid diving, flips, stunts, horseplay, trucks, pushing, also diving or swimming under the bar. Other new (2016) additions are new cabanas and a new island dock.

Next is the floorplan of the 2019-added floating / overwater cabanas at Coco Beach Club (capacity 450 tourists). Each cabana is fitted with wet bar, freshwater shower, lockable storage, overwater hammock, USB charging power outlet, ice-cold cooler, beach towels, waterslide, cabana concierge (dedicated food and drinks service).

Coco Beach Club has a total of 20 floating plus 10 land cabanas, each with max occupancy 8 tourists. The premium resort complex also offers as facilities and amenities a clubhouse, an infinity swimming pool, daybeds, beverage service, The Grille (complimentary restaurant).

A total of 35 beach bungalows (max capacity 6 guests each) are located in the island's South Beach ("members-only") area. The rental costs USD 225 per day. Each bungalow rental deal includes beach mats (floating), beach towels and water. Transportation to and from the area is via private shuttles. To the amenities of CocoCay's South Beach area were added new restrooms (located nearby, at ~5-min walking distance) and a total of 650 sun loungers.

Since 2016, CocoCay offers full-day beach bed rentals. Rental costs USD 150 capacity up to 6 guests each) and is inclusive of 2 floating beach mats, beach towels and a cooler (with 4 bottles of water). Beach beds are positioned among South Beach's palm trees and have adjustable curtain walls. Transportation to and from the area is via private Cocolimo shuttle.

Refurbishments and island expansion 2017-2018

In early March 2017, Royal Caribbean announced a planned investment in Coco Cay. The expansion project included building of a dedicated cruise ship docking pier, adding new facilities, amenities and duty-free shopping options.

The new pier is covered and able to handle RCI's largest (Oasis-class) ships. Construction works will be done in several phases, with scheduled completion in 2019. The project will not affect the RCI's scheduled cruises to CocoCay. According to RCI, CocoCay's pier was completed in June 2018.

Royal Caribbean also signed a 5-year agreement with The Bahamas government aimed to increase the cruise company's employment of Bahamian citizens. The company will also invest in a hospitality training program. The company will create a curriculum to prepare thousands of Bahamian students for maritime careers on RCCL ships. Classes will be lead by certified instructors providing theoretical and practical information and training to help students develop hospitality skills. Besides classroom teaching, students will also receive training from the company's onboard staff.

On April 26, 2017, Royal Caribbean held an official groundbreaking ceremony while Enchantment of the Seas was docked here on a 4-day Bahamas cruise roundtrip from Miami to Nassau , (April 25), Coco Cay and Key West Florida (April 27).

Among the island's newly added amenities are a basketball court, bocce ball court (for up to 4 players), bowling court, volleyball nets, large-size pool table.

Island expansion 2018-2019

Thrill Waterpark attraction was constructed with 2 water towers (Daredevil's Tower, Family Tower) and a total of 13 slides. Daredevil's Tower complex consists of North America's tallest waterslide "Daredevil's Peak" (height 135 ft / 41 m), Dueling Demons (2 drop slides), Manta Racers (2 high-speed slides), Screeching Serpent (fully vertical slide), Green Mamba (coiling slide), Tidal Wave (boomerang-style slide in the Family Tower area), as well as Caribbean's largest wave pool (Adventure Pool) with obstacle course (lily pads), rock-climbing wall and rope swing (in the swimming pool). Family Tower complex consists of all 6 waterslides, including 1 tubed (The Twister, capacity 2 persons sharing 1 raft), 1 zero-gravity (The Slingshot, capacity 4 persons) and 1 racing (Splash Speedway, with 4 lanes). NOTE: For waterslides height and weight restrictions see at port's "tours, shore excursion" section (page bottom).

Caribbean's biggest freshwater swimming pool "Oasis Lagoon" (sized 3080 m2 / 33170 ft2) has a swim-up bar with in-water stools, benches and water loungers. Caribbean's only Zip-line with water landing has length 1600 ft (488 m) and crisscrosses the island at heights up to 50 ft (15 m). The Bahamas' highest vantage point (an attraction named "Up, Up and Away") is a helium balloon flying up to 450 ft (137 m) above ground.

CocoCay has 3 new beaches.

Chill Island Beach is accessed via a green pathway and has private cabanas and daybeds. This is CoCo Cay's most quiet area. Nearby is the Artisan Market (cash-only straw market) where local vendors sell handmade goods.

South Beach is specifically designed for beachside activities - volleyball, basketball, soccer, paddleboards, glass-bottom seakayaks, zorbs / inflatable bumper bubble balls. At South Beach are offered bungalows, daybeds, teepees (cone-shaped tents).

Coco Beach Club is a VIP (but not suite passenger-exclusive) beach with overwater cabanas providing premium island vacation experiences. Coco Beach cabana rentals are inclusive of 1 hammock (overwater), 1 waterslide, and dedicated service (by an attendant). The complex also includes a freshwater infinity pool, full bar, an exclusive restaurant (serving Mediterranean cuisine specialties).

Other newly added island attractions and amenities include:

  • Shipwreck Galleon ("Captain Jack's Galleon" kids park) has 30 water cannons. The Sprayaway Geyser sprays water up to 82 ft (25 m) in the air. Both are part of Splashaway Bay aquapark. This is the enlarged version of the Royal Caribbean ships' onboard aquaparks for kids, fitted with fountains, splash pools, sprinklers, geysers, cannons, whirlpools, slides, 2 drench buckets.CaptainJack's Galleon"
  • Captain Jack's is a new bar and dining venue - designed as a rowboat, with waterfront views, serving beverages and fast-food items (including chicken wings and steak fries).
  • The complimentary Skipper's Grill restaurant serves lunch fast food, including sandwiches, burgers, tacos, salads.
  • The complimentary beachside restaurant Chill Grill is CocoCay's largest. Also new is the food bar Snack Shack.
  • Newly added amenities include wave runner and boat tours, snorkeling, private cabanas and daybeds for rental, and several beach bars with upgraded menus.
  • At all swimming pools are allowed toddlers in swim diapers.

In May 2018, RCI announced plans to build permanent accommodations on CocoCay allowing Suite passengers to stay on the island overnight (or longer). The concept includes premium cabanas serving passengers on any of the RCI ships calling at CocoCay.

NOTE: For CocoCay prices see at port's "tours, shore excursion" section (page bottom).

In October 2019, RCI partnered with Funky Buddha Brewery (Oakland Park FL) for an exclusive beer label available only on CocoCay's Funky Buddha taproom. Royal Caribbean's private beer label "Chilla Thrilla" was trademarked on July 8, 2019. The craft beer (5% ABV) is a tropical ale (with mango and guava) packaged in 12-oz cans and is offered in different labels themed after CocoCay's areas.

CocoCay expansion 2022-2023 (Hideaway Beach Club/adults-only)

In September 2021 was announced the "Hideaway Beach" (CocoCay's western end) adjacent to/behind the aquapark.

The adults-only beach area is currently scheduled for inauguration during the first visit of RCI's largest ship Icon OTS on February 2, 2024.

In mid-October 2023 started construction works on Thrill Waterpark's Family Flume Water Slide. Being part of Splash Summit Tower, the new attraction has the capacity to accommodate 2-4 people simultaneously. At Splash Summit Tower are also installed the Sling Shot (raft slide), the Splash Speedway (mat slide), the Twister (tube ride) and the newest is Tailspin (2023-opened, using rafts like Sling Shot's).

Cost/Rent Price

Hideaway Beach is an add-on option (costs extra) and is only for passengers 18 years old and older. Access to Hideaway Beach is priced differently depending on season/date and if pre-purchased (via Cruise Planner) or onboard-purchased.

These were Hideaway Beach's admission prices per person (pre-/onboard) announced by RCI for the maiden visits in 2024 of Icon OTS (Feb 24th, US$53/$59), Wonder OTS (Mar 17th, US$44/$49), Icon OTS (June 29th, US80/$89), Utopia OTS (July 22nd, US$71/$79).

Coco Cay cruise terminal

Before 2018, Royal Caribbean ships to CocoCay Island were moored (anchored) and their passengers were offloaded (tendered ashore) via the ship's tender boats. The tendering ride was about 15 min. The liner's tenders docked at a dedicated pier to embark / disembark passengers.

Cruise ship disembarkation on the island is in the morning, at around 10:30 am. After the tendering, passengers go to the Shore Excursions desk. At building's back stops a tram going to the Beach Lounger area. The route is also a long walk on the beach, so walking to the loungers/beach area is a great option to see the island's vast majority along your way.

Since June 2018, cruise liners dock directly at the new pier, where are able to berth even the world's largest Oasis-class boats.

CocoCay offers the following complimentary amenities and facilities:

  • dining venues (Skipper's Grill, Chill Grill, three Snack Shack bars), self-serve ice cream machines
  • Oasis Lagoon (swimming pool)
  • beach chairs, towels, freshwater showers, changing rooms, restrooms, sports courts, island tram service, selected fitness classes
  • Beach umbrellas and lockers are available for a nominal rental fee.
  • Bars and self-service beer stations are a la carte priced.
  • Captain Jack's dining menu is a la carte priced.
  • At surcharge are cabanas, daybeds, watersports equipment (diving, snorkeling, seakayaks, boats, etc).
  • CocoCay serves  VOOM Internet and Wi-Fi packages and all RCI drink packages available for shipboard purchasing. Note: souvenir cups and beverages in coconuts/pineapples are not package-inclusive. WiFi coverage is island-wide.
  • CocoCay doesn't offer dedicated daycare services. However, Royal Caribbean's kids program "Adventure Ocean" is complimentary and provides dedicated staff for supervised activities on the island.
  • Gluten-free and vegetarian food is available at all dining venues.
  • There are designated smoking-allowed areas.
  • Charging stations are complimentary and available in all cabanas plus some public venues.
  • Most trash is recycled on the island, the rest is sent to the cruise ship.

There are no age restrictions on CocoCay, but some waterslides and activities (including helium balloon and zip-line) have height and weight restrictions.

  • Daredevil Peak waterslide (length 135 ft / 41 m) - 48 inches (122 cm) - 300 lbs (136 kg)

When should I arrive at the port terminal to board my cruise ship?

Guests should arrive at the terminal within the arrival time slot you selected during Royal App check-in. Those who arrive early will not be able to begin boarding, and those who arrive late will need to wait until we are able to work them into another group.

Due to government regulations requiring cruise lines to submit final departure manifests at least 60 minutes prior to sailing, guests are requested to complete Check-in no later than 3 days prior to their cruise. If you do not complete Check-in 3 days prior, you will be required to complete this process at the pier at least  two   hours  prior to the published sailing time.  Please note:  All guests must be checked-in and onboard the ship no later than 90 minutes prior to the published sailing time or you will not be permitted to sail.

If you choose to fly ChoiceAir, Royal Caribbean automatically displays only the airline schedules that will enable you to meet your cruise. For your return home, you have the ability to select the flight that best suits your schedule. Depending on your disembarkation time and port, the time needed to arrive at the airport will vary.

Things To Do

Subscriber only, travel | port canaveral chalks up record month amid growing cruise demand.

Royal Caribbean's Allure of the Seas arrived to Port Canaveral to home port for the first time on Wednesday, Oct. 25, 2023. (Richard Tribou/Orlando Sentinel)

Port Canaveral saw just under 800,000 cruise passengers move on and off its ships in March as part of a record year that keeps topping expectations.

That set a one-month record for the port with an average of nearly 25,600 people a day around 93 cruise ship calls. March is traditionally one of the strongest months of the year for the port with its spring break traffic.

It also marked the halfway point of the fiscal year that began in October 2023. Six months in, the port has seen 3.9 million passenger movements from 479 ship calls.

“The industry itself is very, very strong right now,” said Port CEO Capt. John Murray at the port commission meeting on Wednesday. “There’s a lot of expansion plans. The companies are starting to reorder ships again after the pandemic.”

NCL details new dining on Canaveral-bound Norwegian Aqua

That includes more ships from Norwegian Cruise Line, which has been sending its new vessels to Port Canaveral as they debut including next year’s Norwegian Aqua.

“So a lot of great things, a lot of great things, a lot of enthusiasm and I can say that the industry is 110% of what it was prior to the pandemic,” Murray said. “They are back and booming right now. So we’re fortunate to be taking advantage of that here at the port.”

Operating revenue for the year is already at $98 million, which is $3.6 million above budget. It also means the record projection of $187 million in operating revenue through the end of the fiscal year in September is likely to get surpassed as well.

Ship capacity is determined to be at 100% if each stateroom is occupied by two passengers, so ships sailing with families, for instance, will push capacity above 100% and in turn increase revenue for the port from the cruise lines as well as add to an uptick in parking charges.

Royal Caribbean to send massive Utopia of the Seas to Port Canaveral

One of the big drivers has been the addition of a second Oasis-class vessel by Royal Caribbean so that the port hosts two of the largest cruise ships in the world.

Allure of the Seas joined Wonder of the Seas last fall to begin short three- and four-night sailings to the Bahamas, and will continue that until the debut of Royal’s new Utopia of the Seas this summer. Since arriving, it has added more than 650,000 passenger movements to the port’s growing tally.

The port has been home port to 13 ships from Disney Cruise Line, Royal Caribbean, Carnival, Norwegian and MSC Cruises, and is set to welcome its first ships from both Princess Cruises and Celebrity Cruises this fall.

Port Canaveral plots timeline to take over marina for new cruise terminal

Right now it has six cruise terminals, but is beginning the work to eventually build a seventh later this decade. During an interview earlier in April at the Seatrade Cruise Global conference in Miami Beach, Murray said the key to growth for the port will be a shift in how the port gives access to each terminal, such as how it plans to operate its seventh terminal.

“It’s going to be multiuser. It’s not going to be a single-use facility. That’s going to be how our concept of operations would be going forward,” Murray said. “The only way you’re going to get good utilization of a terminal is if you can put multiple brands in there and not have it dedicated to just one user.”

That’s how it runs several of its terminals now including Disney Cruise Line at Cruise Terminal 8 and Carnival Cruise Line at its newest terminal, Cruise Terminal 3.

“If they’ve got seven days a week at one terminal and they’re only using three, maybe four days, that’s not high utilization,” Murray said. “Yet, it’s a facility that we’ve got blocked out that we’re not getting any benefit from it for the investment we’ve made.”

He notes Cruise Terminal 10, which gets used by three brands, gets used six days a week.

Murray said with newer and bigger ships on order from all the major lines, the demand is just going to continue to spike for parking space at Florida’s big three ports.

“I think the point now for all of the major brands is finding somewhere to operate,” Murray said. “Because there’s only Miami, [and] we all know how full Miami is; Everglades, [which has] limited capacity or opportunity for growth; and we have more land, but you know, it’s not all going to get committed to the cruise industry.”

“So the question is, how do we allow more opportunities for the cruise lines to operate? This is one — get high utilization out of the terminal.”

Carnival Freedom's next two cruises from Port Canaveral canceled after exhaust funnel fire

A fire in the exhaust funnel of the Carnival Freedom this weekend has disrupted a cruise of the Port Canaveral-based ship for the second time in less than two years — and will mean that the ship's next two cruises are canceled.

Damage to the funnel will require the cancellation of Carnival's next two cruises out of Port Canaveral, which were scheduled to depart Monday and Friday.

Thousands of passengers with scheduled cruises will be affected by the canceled cruises during a busy spring break period for Carnival and other cruise lines.

Start the day smarter. Get all the news you need in your inbox each morning.

Carnival initially had said it expected no changes in its upcoming cruises, but on Sunday afternoon said the cancellations would be required.

"Regrettably, the damage is more than we first thought, and will require an immediate repair to stabilize the funnel, resulting in the cancellation of the March 25 and March 29 cruises from Port Canaveral," according to a statement issued by Matt Lupoli, Carnival Cruise Line's senior manager of public relations. "The funnel has been stabilized for the ship’s return to Port Canaveral overnight to disembark guests, and then it will go to the Freeport shipyard on Monday afternoon to begin the required repairs."

Carnival said it made the decision after "our technical team completed a thorough assessment" during the ship’s visit Sunday to Freeport in the Bahamas.

In the statement, Carnival said: "We sincerely regret the impact to our embarking guests, as we know they have been looking forward to their spring break vacation. We are providing all guests on both canceled cruises a full refund and a 100% future cruise credit, so they can come back and enjoy a future cruise with us. We also greatly appreciate the terrific guests who are currently sailing with us, for their outstanding cooperation and support."

In a Facebook post, Carnival's widely followed brand ambassador, John Heald, conceded that many people who booked one of the canceled cruises are "feeling very disappointed," and he apologized for the turn of events.

But, Heald added that he wanted to assure affected passengers that, "when you rebook, using your full refund and your 100% future cruise credit, that the crew will be standing by to give you all the fun you deserve."

More than 500 people responded to the post, with many saying they thought Carnival was generous with the compensation offer. But some people who said they were on the cruise that experienced the fire said they thought Carnival should have done more for the people who were on the ship.

Carnival said the fire was confined to the funnel area. The cruise line said there are no reports of injuries to passengers. Two firefighting crew members were treated for minor smoke inhalation.

Carnival said that, at about 3:15 p.m. Saturday, the Carnival Freedom reported a fire on the port side of the ship’s exhaust funnel. The ship was 20 miles off Eleuthera Island, Bahamas, heading to Freeport after a canceled call to the Carnival private island of Princess Cay due to adverse weather.

Details of previous fire: Fire breaks out on Carnival Freedom while Port Canaveral-based ship was in Grand Turk

"The ship’s fire response team was quickly activated, and the ship’s captain also turned the vessel towards the heavy rain in the area to maximize the efforts to put out the flames," an earlier Carnival statement said. "Eyewitnesses reported the possibility of a lightning strike, and that is being investigated, but cannot yet be confirmed."

By 5:20 p.m. Saturday, the fire was extinguished.

Carnival said the ship's captain made multiple announcements to passengers and crew, and advised all but essential safety personnel to stay away from balconies and all open decks.

The port-side portion of the funnel had fallen onto Deck 10, and the firefighting response put out any flames.

The U.S. Coast Guard has been notified of the fire, and Carnival activated its incident response team to support the ship’s crew.

Carnival said there were no other operational issues with the ship’s systems, and the ship, which was on a four-night cruise, was visiting Freeport on Sunday.

The Freedom sailed into the channel at Port Canaveral around 7:30 a.m. Monday, and docked at Cruise Terminal 6, letting off the passengers who were on the cruise. Carnival then awaited a Coast Guard inspection of the ship before it could be cleared to leave Port Canaveral for the Freeport shipyard for repairs. The ship left the port about 6:20 p.m.

A cruise ship funnel generally serves as a smokestack to lift emissions above the deck, thus away from passengers and crew.

On Saturday evening, "Carnival Freedom guests enjoyed the Elegant Night dinner as planned, and, with the exception of the open decks, all areas of the ship are fully functioning," Carnival said in its statement.

The sailing had about 3,700 passengers onboard. And the two upcoming sailings that were canceled each likely would have had a similar passenger count, because this is a busy time for the cruise industry.

The Carnival Freedom's next voyage was scheduled to depart from Port Canaveral on Monday afternoon on a five-night Eastern Caribbean cruise. That cruise had port-of-call stops scheduled at Amber Cove in the Dominican Republic and at Grand Turk Island in the Turks and Caicos Islands.

But that sailing and a Friday sailing both have been canceled. Friday's five-night sailing also was scheduled to stop at those two ports of call, but in reverse order.

In May 2022, a fire broke out in the funnel area of the Carnival Freedom while it was docked in Grand Turk. Carnival then canceled three scheduled sailings of the Carnival Freedom out of Port Canaveral because of the need to repair the ship's fire damage at a shipyard in Grand Bahama.

More recently, in October 2023, the Carnival Freedom debuted a new iconic winged funnel after returning from a 16-day dry-dock refurbishment in Cadiz, Spain.
