However, if you’re travelling to Bali for a quieter escape, there’s still plenty to do. For example, its mighty Mount Agung, where you’ll be able to catch the sunrise from a prime location near the top (if you wake up early enough, that is!).

If you want a more tranquil hike, you can head to the Ubud Monkey Forest and spend a day spotting its tree-dwelling residents! While you are there, take the opportunity to pick up some art pieces as Ubud is known for its art and traditional craft.

Relaxation abounds at Bali’s spas, with opulent body treatment and stunning vibes to match! If anything, Bali has always been a popular choice amongst Singaporeans because of its proximity to Singapore. If flying to Bali is in your vacation plans, we have an enticing offer for you to experience a splendid beach and resort vacation!

Look out for promotions and snag the best fare deals when you book your flight tickets to Bali at the Singapore Airlines Time to Fly Travel Fair happening from 3 to 5 November 2023.

2. Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam

travel fair suntec

Skyscrapers, historic monuments and buildings reaching for the sky in the vibrant heart of Ho Chi Minh City.

There’s no place in Southeast Asia like Vietnam. Its unique and storied history, melting pot of a metropolitan capital, and a range of cuisine delights have made it an unmissable destination.

Ho Chi Minh City, its capital, is bustling and teeming with popular tourist spots and hidden gems that reward the most patient visitors. It’s no secret that, if you want the best food the city has to offer, it’s preferred to eat by the roadside–either at the colourful Vĩnh Khánh street, which offers a mouth-watering selection of seafood, or among the travelling grilled meat trolleys on the streets of Trần Khắc Chân.

View this post on Instagram A post shared by East West Brewing Co. (@eastwestbrewery)

Once you’ve chowed down to your heart’s content, you can head to one of the city’s many craft beer pubs or specialised coffee joints. To make the search easier, go to East West Brewery, where you can find an amazing selection of local and imported craft beers. Its owner hails from Portland, Oregon–which has been known as the craft beer capital of the world–and you can be rest assured that he knows what he’s doing with its regularly-rotating menu of pints. For a unique local pick, they offer the Saigon Rose, a fruity craft beer perfect for a relaxing afternoon in-between shopping.

View this post on Instagram A post shared by Cong Caphe (@congcaphe)

If you spot a Cộng Cà Phê outlet, you know that you’re in the hands of pure coffee experts,  with its ubiquitous presence across the city (they have 18 outlets in Ho Chi Minh alone!).

The best part about Vietnam: it won’t cost an arm and a leg to get you there. Not when you can get a deal with the Singapore Airlines Time to Fly Travel Fair at Suntec Convention & Exhibition Centre!

3. Seoul, South Korea

travel fair suntec

Be immersed in the timeless charm of Seoul’s streets and explore its rich heritage.

Of course, who can forget Seoul? The beating heart and, yes, soul of South Korean culture–from royal history to the modern-day Hallyu wave–is a destination of wonders for so many Singaporeans.

travel fair suntec

Step back in time amid the grandeur of Gyeongbokgung Palace. Don’t forget your camera to capture the timeless symbol of history and culture at this iconic palace.

There are the iconic sights like the Gyeongbokgung Palace, where you can immerse yourself in the heritage of the Joseon dynasty, along with Hanbok costumes that you can try for a unique photo-op.

Seoul, being the entertainment capital of Asia, is where you’ll be able to attend K-pop concerts and festivals–a huge plus if you always miss out on tickets whenever these artists sell-out shows in Singapore.

travel fair suntec

Find all sorts of Korean delicacies from street vendors at Myeongdong as they line the streets with hot and piping snacks and dishes.

At Myeongdong, you’ll be able to feast on famous Korean delicacies as you walk through its streets, where you can also find riches of beauty products that are more affordably-priced, compared to the pricey imports you find at local retailers. If you want to spend your night at a more trendy and colourful location, head over to Ikseon-dong, where hip new cafes take residence alongside age-old businesses.

During its winter season–from December to March–you can try your hand at skiing at Seoul’s Elysian Gangchon Ski Resort, which is most famously the closest resort to the city.

Some quiet time away from the city–without the hassle of long-haul travel–can be done on the Korea Wine Train, where you can find bottomless servings of wine before heading to the city of Yeongdong for a quick day-long escapade.

As you can imagine, Seoul is immensely popular amongst Singaporeans, so finding the right price for a flight from Singapore can feel like a heavy task in itself. At the Time to Fly Travel Fair, keep an eye out for fare deals to Seoul and secure your tickets to the popular city. You can also redeem a New Yorker Luggage when you book your travels with Citi Mastercard (with a minimum spend) at the Singapore Airlines Time to Fly Travel Fair.

4. Hong Kong

travel fair suntec

Exploring Hong Kong’s vibrant and buzzling streets is an experience, where urban development and traditional charm meets.

Through tides of cultural changes and historical shifts, Hong Kong has remained steadfast as a proud city in Asia. If you’ve ever visited the place, you’ll know that Hong Kong can be glitzy, but with a raw edge in its neighbourhoods, and that both locals and tourists adore that rare balance.

travel fair suntec

Be treated with panoramic views of Hong Kong at Victoria Peak. The most popular way to get to the peak is by trams that run from the Lower Terminus.

A place like Victoria Peak will afford you a panoramic view of the city, and you can see that brilliance in all its shades. An alternative would be Braemar Hill, which offers multiple view spots–you can find them along your hiking trail there.

View this post on Instagram A post shared by Dim Dim Sum Hong Kong (@dimdimsumhk)

In Singapore, we do not lack dim sum hotspots, but in Hong Kong, you’re getting a slice of local cuisine heaven that you can only get there. Put aside the Tim Ho Wans and Crystal Jades–those institutions have earned their flowers for a reason, but you’ll get a full-bodied experience visiting long-running dim sum restaurants like Spring Moon, Dim Dim Sum, and Ming Court. Each of these restaurants are headed by industry veterans, and they have served locals well for decades.

Hong Kong’s arts and culture is rich and diverse, and you can find a peek of it at The Mills, a veritable arts hub where you can view the works of legendary and contemporary artists.

Being a simple four-hour flight away, Hong Kong offers Asian heritage with a quick and fuss-free trip. Book tickets at the Time to Fly Travel Fair and enjoy fare promos and perks!  You can redeem a New Yorker Luggage when you book your flight tickets with Citi Mastercard (with a minimum spend) at the travel fair, while stocks last!

5. Perth, Australia

travel fair suntec

Experience western Australia’s coastal beauty and urban charm in Perth.

When it comes to Australia, its star cities are characterised by its local cultures: Melbourne with its bustling arts capital, while Sydney possesses the country’s most famous landmarks.

Perth, however, is where you find a thriving habitat for the world’s most unique wildlife. There, you can visit the AWQA, also known as the Aquarium of Western Australia, where you will be able to come face-to-face with giant sharks, turtles, stingrays, and a natural collection of aquatic species that range from familiar faces to rare creatures you can only find there.

View this post on Instagram A post shared by Wadjemup / Rottnest Island (@rottnestislandwa)

Offshore, there’s Rottnest Island, which is a simple boat ride away from the metropolitan city. While you can find a peaceful population of quokkas scurrying across its large grounds, this is the place in Perth for fun-filled picnics and leisurely hikes.

Within the city of Perth, however, you can also find tranquility at Kings Park and Botanic Garden, where it plays host to over 3,000 species of unique flora.

As you decide which city in Australia fits your holiday itinerary, don’t ponder too long–the Time to Fly Travel Fair is offering tickets to destinations across the world at discounted fares.

6. Paris, France

travel fair suntec

You have to experience the city of love at least once in your life – every street corner is picture-perfect.

Whether it be the city of love or city of lights, Paris is everything it’s been made out to be–and more! Its sights alone would already be embedded in your mind–the Louvre, the Arc de Triomphe and, of course, the Eiffel Tower–so seeing these remarkable structures up close and personal will be a transformative experience.

View this post on Instagram A post shared by Sainte Chapelle de Paris (@sainte_chapelle)

While the Notre Dame Cathedral is still undergoing reconstruction, following its unfortunate fire incident in 2019, you’ll be able to visit Sainte Chapelle, which is just a short walk away. The lines are long, but once you’re in, you’ll be spellbound by its collection of stained-glass art and life-sized architecture.

travel fair suntec

The Palace of Versailles is a popular landmark and destination that attracts between eight and 10 million visitors each year.

Another place worth travelling to is the Palace of Versailles, a historic landmark that offers a tour of its palace grounds and royal garden.

If you need to visit one restaurant with authentic French cuisine, make it Le Bouillon, where you can tuck into an old-fashioned Parisian brunch meal in the morning or taste different types of wine at night.

Paris is both tourist-friendly and replete with hole-in-the-wall establishments if you have enough time to search for them.

It’s most advisable to free up time in your itinerary for at least a week in Paris. Make the planning easier by booking your flights at the Time to Fly Travel Fair with great fares, so that you can focus on perfecting your itinerary.

7. New York, USA

travel fair suntec

A visit to the iconic Time Square in New York at night will allow you to soak in the electric energy of the big city.

If Paris is reputed for being the city of lights and the city of love, New York completes the trifecta by being the city of dreams. You’ll find that what Alicia Keys sang about in ‘Empire State of Mind’ is not just accurate–it’s embellished on its concrete pavements and supersized billboards.

The city–while known for its thriving nightlife, cultural harbours, and endless offering of activities–became what it’s known for thanks to its strong communities, among them generations of Americans who’ve descended from migrants from all over the world.

This has resulted in New York being a food paradise. Sure, you can find a robust pizza joint at every corner, and most of them will provide you with tasty slices. But its bodegas are where you can get the freshest sandwiches and bagels–roast beef, salmon, cream cheese–and they’re also stunningly affordable.

Immerse yourself with culture: you can easily get tickets to a Broadway (or off-Broadway) show on an afternoon, while you can reserve a table at the legendary Blue Note jazz club for a night of enrapturing melody.

View this post on Instagram A post shared by Brooklyn Bridge, NYC (@brooklynbridgeig)

For a nice, long stroll, you can opt for the Coney Island Boardwalk or, if you’re willing to go the distance, the iconic Brooklyn Bridge.

New York feels worlds away, but it doesn’t have to be. Not when Singapore Airlines will make your trip easier (and less taxing on your budget) with tickets at the Time to Fly Travel Fair, where you can find discounted fares, and redeem a New Yorker Luggage when you book your flight tickets with a Citi Mastercard (with a minimum spend, while stocks last).

8. Brussels, Belgium

travel fair suntec

Explore Brussels, the capital city of Belgium, and often referred to the centre of European culture.

Let’s whisk you away to the heart of Europe, to a city that often flies under the radar but is nothing short of enchanting – Brussels, Belgium. With Singapore Airlines expected to launch non-stop flights between Singapore and Brussels from April 2024, it will make it the airline’s return to the Belgian capital for the first time in more than 20 years.

travel fair suntec

The Grand-Place is a huge square with many shops, historical buildings and visitors hoping to snap a perfect photo of this iconic site.

A must visit is the Grand-Place, the city’s Town Hall and a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1998. Many travellers have visited this spot due to its historical significance, ornate designs and original beauty – the place hasn’t changed much since the late 17th century! The best thing to do at the square? Stop by a café, order a plate of moules-frites (mussels and fries), the go-to dish in the city, and watch the world go by.

View this post on Instagram A post shared by Mary Chocolatier Brussels (@mary_chocolatier_brussels)

Next activity on the list? Checking out one of Belgium’s most famous exports: chocolate. Stroll along cobbled streets and discover artisanal shops serving up pralines and truffles that have been crafted to perfection. One of the most famous shops has got to be Artisan Chocolatier Mary with the original boutique on Rue Royale, with hand-rolled truffles and pralines for visitors to sample.

The blend of old-world charm and contemporary is the best way to describe Brussels.

Secure your flight tickets from Singapore to Brussels, with Singapore Airlines. The launch of non-stop flights between the two cities will certainly make your dream European getaway more accessible than ever before.

Here, we’ve covered some of the bucket list destinations that you should cross off your list at least once in your life. However, there’re even more places to discover and explore and they will all be available for you at the Time to Fly Travel Fair 2023, happening at Suntec Convention & Exhibition Centre (Halls 405 & 406) from 3 to 5 November 2023, 10:00am to 10:00pm.

For travel fair attendees who book their flights at the event–and, importantly, with a Citi Mastercard – you will receive a free New Yorker Luggage (with a minimum spend). There are limited redemptions, so plan out your travels and book your flights at the event to secure the free luggage.

The deals do not stop there. If you can’t make it to the travel fair happening from 3 to 5 November 2023, simply enrol and use your Citi Mastercard for your flight bookings on the Singapore Airlines Website and/or SingaporeAir Mobile App and you can redeem an American Tourister Argyle Spinner 68/25 Luggage with a minimum spend of S$2,000. While stocks last too, valid from 3 November 2023 to 31 December 2023.

How to enrol? Send an SMS to 72484 in this format using your mobile number registered with Citi: CITISQTTF<space>Last 4 digits of your eligible Citi Mastercard number (e.g. CITISQTTF 1234).

Not a Citi Cardmember yet? Sign up for the Citi PremierMiles Card and you can get to enjoy a variety of perks. First - earn up to 1.2 Citi Miles per S$1 local spend and 2 Citi Miles per S$1 foreign currency spend. Next – your Citi miles never expire so you can redeem and use them whenever you want.

Guide to Singapore Travel Fairs 2023: NATAS Travel Fair, Japan Travel Fair, and Klook Japan Deals (24-26 February 2023)

Japan and Taiwan

Are you planning your 2023 holidays and looking for travel deals? There are two big travel fairs this weekend (24-26 February 2023)! The NATAS Travel Fair 2023 at Singapore Expo and Japan Travel Fair by Japan National Tourism Organization (JNTO) at Suntec City (with a special Klook Express booth with amazing Japan deals).

As I am a cheapo, #auntiewendy, and “bargain hunter,” I have “scrutinized” the travel fairs and put together this quick guide to the travel fairs in Singapore and the best travel deals and discounts.

NATAS Travel Fair 2023

travel fair suntec

The NATAS Travel Fair is Singapore’s largest consumer travel fair and is held twice a year. Its organizing body, the National Association of Travel Agents Singapore (NATAS), brings together numerous travel agencies, tourism boards, airlines, and hotels under one roof to showcase the latest tourism products and trends.

  • Date: 24-26 February 2023
  • Venue: Singapore Expo, 1 Expo Dr, Singapore 486150, Hall 5
  • Free admission

Based on my past experiences, it’s best to go head down to the NATAS Travel Fair as early as possible. You will avoid the crowds, queues for customer service, and grab good deals and gifts (especially credit card deals that may have limited quantity). This year, my game plan is to visit my favorite Taiwan Tourism Bureau Booth, Peace Boat booth, and do research for Europe packaged tours.

NATAS TRAVEL FAIR 2023 – EXHIBITORS AND EXHIBITION FLOOR PLAN

There are over 51 exhibitors and they range from national tourism organizations, travel agents, hotels, airlines, cruises, banks, insurers, and more.

Some exhibitors that I am interested to check out:

National Tourism Organizations

  • Taiwan Tourism Bureau
  • Tourism Authority of Thailand
  • Sarawak Tourism Board

Interestingly, Tokai Tourism Japan has a booth in the NATAS Travel Fair and not the Japan Travel Fair. You can also find more Japan deals at JTB and H.I.S. Travel booths.

Taiwan Tourism Bureau’s booth looks very attractive and they are planning a series of informative talks and fun activities (see below). Make sure you check out their booth!

Planning a trip to Taiwan in 2023? Check out all my Taiwan guides and itineraries here . For more travel hacks and discount codes, check out How to plan a free and easy trip to Taiwan on a budget .

travel fair suntec

As I am looking for deals for Europe packaged tours, I would be checking out these travel agents:

  • Chan Brothers Travel
  • EU Holidays
  • Nam Ho Travel
  • ASA Holidays

If you are looking for credit cards discounts or would like to sign up for new credit cards, check out the bank booths! Most banks usually have good giveaways and discounts for new credit card sign-ups at travel fairs.

For travel insurance, Etiqa Insurance has a booth. But I don’t usually buy insurance at travel fair as I can find better deals online. I have recently purchased FWD travel insurance for my family. I like that I can enhance my coverage with COVID-19 add-on benefit and they have an app that facilitates claims easily. I have no issues making claims so far. Check out the policy coverage and cost here (use my link to get extra 2% discount on top of their existing promotional code). If you are planning a more complex trip that requires more coverage, read their policy wordings carefully.

Check out the full list of exhibitors here and plan your travel shopping route with the map below.

JAPAN TRAVEL FAIR 2023

travel fair suntec

Japan Travel Fair returns as a physical fair after three years since the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic! This fair is organized by the Japan National Tourism Organization (JNTO) Singapore Office, in collaboration with multiple prefectural government agencies from Japan and local travel partners.

  • Venue: Suntec City North and West Atrium, 3 Temasek Boulevard Singapore 038983

I’m so excited about the physical Japan Travel Fair 2023! The online travel fairs in the last 2 years were great but it’s always nice to explore the travel booths in person and talk to the travel consultants. Get ready for 3 days of Japan extravaganza and enjoy fun-filled activities, stage performances, and of course, exclusive free giveaways!

JAPAN TRAVEL FAIR 2023 – TRAVEL BOOTHS AND MAP

travel fair suntec

There are many travel booths at the Japan Travel Fair. Most of the booths by the prefectures are in North Atrium . It’s so nice to JR booths like JR East and JR Hokkaido, a big group of Kyushu booths (Fukuoka, Oita, Miyazaki, and more), and of course, my favorite prefecture Okinawa (Be.Okinawa)!

In the West Atrium , there are more booths and the highlight is the Klook Express Booth ! Klook is unleashing many goodies and freebies. Check out a quick summary of the exclusive Klook deals at the Japan Travel Fair in the next section.

Other than travel deals, you will be treated to entertaining stage programmes including an opening performance by Hibikiya, a professional organization that specializes in performing traditional Japanese music. NYANGOSTAR, a Japanese mascot who became popular in Singapore through his presence on Youtube, will also be taking the stage at Japan Travel Fair. Check out the action-packed stage program!

travel fair suntec

A stamp rally will be held throughout the 3 days! I love stamp rally and the Japanese have the best stamp rallies! It’s so fun collecting stamps or “chops”!

Collect all four stamps from four different booths located in the North Atrium to redeem an exclusively designed travel tote bag. What’s more! You can win a free trip to Japan if you collect all the chops!

A trip to Moscow

I'm going to organize a trip this summer. I want to plan everything. I’ll fly from London to Moscow, and I also want to visit St. Petersburg. Could you, please, advise me what places I should visit? I’ll stay in Moscow for about 10 days before going to St. Petersburg. Thank you!

Not a country I’d be spending my money in at the moment.

Ditto. Ditto!

I don't really see the point of shunning a country because you don't agree with its leader and/or its government. Would you go to Italy? China? Tourist dollars are more likely to get into the hands of the people rather than any corrupt bureaucracy and meeting friendly tourists might just change the locals opinions of foreigners and even give them some information they don't get from local news media.

Hopefully , I won't be starting a war here , but I must say I agree with Chani's comments . Having taken three year visas in 2015 , we have been to Moscow and St; Petersburg ( once to Moscow , and twice to St Petersburg ) . The History , Art , Music ( I am a classically trained musician ) and Culture , fascinate us . Much to experience there and advance preparation is essential , To get a good grounding for your visit , read this lavish and detailed book by Suzanne Massie , it's one of the best ways to immerse yourself in what you will experience - https://www.amazon.com/Land-Firebird-Beauty-Old-Russia/dp/096441841X/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1521652009&sr=8-1&keywords=land+of+the+firebird+massie&dpID=51CPK13XKGL&preST=_SX218_BO1,204,203,200_QL40_&dpSrc=srch

And while leaders of such countries can point to foreign visitor numbers as a sign of support ? I also believe that personal safety for certain travellers, especially obvious minorities, cannot be guaranteed, as fervent nationalism increases, and tolerance levels evaporate. Just as I may decide against a purchase at the supermarket because of a company’s behaviour, ethics will always be a consideration.

Well, I'd argue supermarket ethics does not readily translate to travel ethics - the latter is far more complex. Personally, I see the whole "vote with my hard-earned travel dollar" approach as overly simplistic, but if it's your position - I totally respect it.

What I don't understand is members volunteering ethical guidance in response to what seems an innocuous request for travel-related information.

Note a discussion on ethics hosted a year ago by the Webmaster of this very forum.

https://community.ricksteves.com/travel-forum/general-europe/travel-ethics-612334a0-0ca1-4128-b088-c13d1d8a91c3

I appreciate Rick Steves' point of view in his "Travel As A Political Act". That said, Putin's Russia is not a place I would support. But, to each his or her own....

From a practical point of view, travel between the two countries can be difficult. I understand the Russians who traveled in the US this past winter had to go to the US Embassy in the country of Georgia to get visas because the Russians expelled American embassy personnel. If you do travel to Russia, you may be on your own. See the American travel advisory: https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/traveladvisories/traveladvisories/russia-travel-advisory.html

Travel Advisory January 10, 2018 Russia – Level 3: Reconsider travel Reconsider travel to Russia due to terrorism and harassment. Some areas have increased risk. Read the entire Travel Advisory U.S. citizens are often victims of harassment, mistreatment, and extortion by law-enforcement and other officials. U.S. consular assistance to detained individuals is often unreasonably delayed by Russian officials. Russia also enforces special restrictions on dual U.S.-Russian nationals. Due to the Russian government-imposed reduction on U.S. diplomatic personnel in Russia, the U.S. government has reduced ability to provide services to U.S. citizens.

We have traveled to Moscow and St. Petersburg over the past few years. As in the US, most of the people we encountered helpful and not particularly political. In Moscow, we stayed at The Garden Ring Hotel which was a close walk to the metro. The hotel was very comfortable and quiet for being in the city. We loved the art museums and the Georgian restaurants. In St. Petersburg, we stayed at both The 3Mosta hotel near the Hermitage and the Art Hotel Demetra.. In St. Petersburg, we especially liked the Hermitage and Russian museum. Learning the Cyrillic alphabet and having a good map is a must.

As I think the point about ethical considerations has been made, please keep future replies more specific to the question at hand. Thanks.

Either read a good travel book or book a guide who can personally take you to the best places that interest you and tell about the sights you're seeing. We used Dan Petrov on 2 different trips to Moscow and found him to be wonderfully friendly and witty not to mention super knowledgeable.

Latest advice, Australian Governmemt, 1 April 2018. “Due to heightened political tensions, you should be aware of the possibility of anti-Western sentiment or harassment. While the Australian Government is not aware of any increased difficulties for Australians travelling in Russia at this time, you should follow the security and political situation closely and keep up to date with this travel advice. Remain vigilant, avoid any protests or demonstrations and avoid commenting publicly on political developments.”

We very much enjoyed our group trip to Moscow and St Petersburg last year. excellent guides and accommodations. While Steven who has replied here has excellent advice, ( and we took advantage of it), we felt an organized tour really facilitated our enjoyment of the country. You may want to consider a combination of an organized tour and than adding independent days . Some of the Australians on the tour had arrived a couple of days earlier than the tour stated and then some stayed later. If we were to go again (which I would), that"s how I would do it. And I must say , it was enlightening to have conversations with the Russian tour guides and the non Americans about the current world situation. Not that we went into any great depth, but I think we all went away with a little more understanding. Top places: allow lots of time in St Petersburg at the Hermitage- take a separate day for the Impressionist building. In Moscow, the Russian Art Museum was amazing.

Solid advice from Australian government quoted above, especially the keeping up to date part.

I checked the current version (Sep 18) of that advisory - and it hasn't been updated much. In fact, some sections don't seem to have changed since 2005 - their recommendations for importing/exporting currency and financial instruments, for example, are at least five years behind.

I do like reading governmental travel advisories for entertainment purposes - for instance, up until very recently the US one sternly advised potential travelers that Moscow was largely a cash-based economy (couldn't be further from the truth) and warned about intrinsic dangers of gypsy cabs (which had all but disappeared by 2015).
