Based on Roald Dahl’s classic children’s book of the same name, Matilda follows Matilda Wormwood, a bright little girl who immerses herself in books. Bryce Ryness was last seen on Broadway in Matilda  after originating the role on the first national tour. His other Broadway credits include Hair , First Date , Leap of Faith and Legally Blonde . Off-Broadway, he’s premiered and/or originated roles in Long Story Short , Fly by Night , See Rock City & Other Destinations , Around the World in 80 Days and Crossing Brooklyn . Ryness' screen credits include Tangled , Sacrifice , Law & Order: SVU , Peter Pan Live! , It Could Be Worse , Submissions Only , Political Animals and Just for Kicks .

Original Main Stem cast member and Broadway.com vlogger Lesli Margherita returned to Matilda  as Mrs. Wormwood for the production's final months on Broadway. She won an Olivier Award for her performance in Zorro in the West End. Her additional credits include Man of La Mancha , Showboat , Little Shop of Horrors and Dames at Sea .

MATILDA THE MUSICAL will be presented as part of Pittsburgh CLO's 2016 Summer Season and the PNC Broadway in Pittsburgh 2015-2016 series.

• Before making it to the stage as a musical in 2010, MATILDA bewitched audiences as a book by Roald Dahl in 1988 and then as a film starring Danny Devito and Mara Wilson in 1996.  
• The show originally opened at The Royal Shakespeare Company’s Courtyard Theatre in November 2010 before transferring to West End’s Cambridge Theatre where it continues to run. The show won seven Olivier Awards landing it in the Guinness Book of World Records.  
• MATILDA opened on Broadway in 2013 and received four Tony Awards for Best Book, Best Featured Actor, Best Lighting Design and Best Scenic Design.  
• A film adaptation of the musical is being planned according to composer and lyricist Tim Minchin and will hopefully begin production in “the next 4 or 5 years.”

National Tour Theater Review: MATILDA THE MUSICAL (Ahmanson Theatre)

Somewhere beneath this incredibly well-crafted tour is a wickedly delightful show. But when more than half of the presentation is indecipherable, (actually more than half), it is impossible to recommend. At the opening of Matilda The Musical ‘s North American tour here in Los Angeles, there were two characters I heard better than others, but in some songs, not one word came through. I wondered if it was the British dialect, yet I can understand the original cast album quite clearly. Fix the diction or get supertitles. There will be no review.

But for a bus-and-truck, the show looked great. Here are some photos.

Opening of Matilda The Musical International Tour

Today Matilda The Musical has begun an international tour at the Israeli Opera House, Tel Aviv. The tour will then transfer to Dubai before continuing with further dates in Asia.

The cast includes: Ryan de Villiers & James Wolstenholme (Miss Trunchbull), Carly Thoms & Gemma Scholes (Miss Honey), Matthew Rowland (Mr Wormwood), Emily Squibb (Mrs Wormwood), Londiwe Dhlomo-Dlamini (Mrs Phelps), Ryan Anderson (Rudolpho), Jason Kajdi (Escapologist), Jamie Kaye (Michael Wormwood/Tommy) and Lucy Warway (Lavender).

The ensemble includes: Lola Adaja, Renée Alexandra, Joe Atkinson, Jazmin Bird, Alex Charles, Joseph Craig, Sinéad Donnelly, Molly Rees Howe, Kent Jeycocke, Brooke Kelly, Weslee Swain Lauder, Katie Lee, Lizzie Nance, Jonathan Raath, Logan Timbre and Lucas Angelo Ward.

The three young performers playing the title role of Matilda are Yolani Balfour, Donna Craig and Myla Williams. They are joined by Daniel Abrahams, Erich Jordaan, Jayden Seder and Gideon van Biljon as Bruce and Eric.

MATILDA THE MUSICAL Will Embark on International Tour; Cast Revealed!

The tour kicks off next month in Tel Aviv.

Matilda The Musical will begin an international tour in August at the Israeli Opera House, Tel Aviv. The tour will then transfer to Dubai before continuing with further dates in Asia. Full dates have yet to be announced at this time but stay tuned for more information as it is released.

The previous international tour opened in South Africa in 2018 before playing in Singapore, Manila and twelve cities in China.

Thompson Announces Appointment of Mayra Briggs to the U.S. Naval Academy

WASHINGTON, D.C.  –  U.S. Representative Glenn “GT” Thompson  today announced that  Ms. Mayra Briggs , of Port Matilda, Pa. has accepted a fully-qualified appointment to the  U.S. Naval Academy  at Annapolis, Md. Briggs is a senior  at State College Area High School . She is the daughter of Kevin Briggs, of Port Matilda, Pa., and Tonya and Bob Cornwall of Port Matilda, Pa. She is the granddaughter of Bill and Teresa Allemang of Punxsutawney, Pa., and Tom and Margie Briggs of Lancaster, Pa. “Mayra is a great example of a well-rounded student and active community member. From her participation in the Spanish Club and Speech and Debate Club to her volunteer work with Dancing Against Hunger and Mini-Thon, she clearly has what it takes to succeed at the United States Naval Academy,”  Rep. Thompson said . “I know that her hard work as a student will serve her well as she starts her military career. I wish her the best of luck as a midshipman in Annapolis.” Briggs is an active member of the State College High School Girls Tennis Team, Spanish Club President, Director of Recruitment for the Speech and Debate Club, and Dancing Against Hunger. She is a certified lifeguard and pool manager for the Centre Region Parks and Recreation Department.

The Matilda White Riley Behavioral and Social Sciences Honors recognizes both emerging scientists and leaders in the field whose research reflects Dr. Matilda White Riley’s vision of research excellence in health-related behavioral and social sciences. Matilda White Riley, Ph.D., (1911–2004) (634 KB) was a celebrated scientist and member of the National Academy of Sciences whose transformative work and leadership left a lasting impact in the behavioral and social sciences across the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and beyond.
