Halsey (born September 29, 1994) is the stage name of American indie-pop singer-songwriter and musician Ashley Frangipane, hailing from Washington, New Jersey, U.S.

Born and raised in Washington, New Jersey, Frangipane also spent time in neighbouring New York where she soon developed ties. During her early years the musician learned to play the viola, violin, and the cello before at the age of 14, pickiing up the acoustic guitar. Frangipane subsequently enrolled in community college studying songwriting and began to build a list of musical connections. In order to pay for her classes the singer-songwriter would perform all over the East Coast using various monikers, ultimately landing on the anagram of her name, Halsey.

The musician’s big break came in 2014 when Frangipane uploaded the song “Ghost” to her SoundCloud page. The track soon became popular online and caught the attention of a number of interested labels. The singer subsequently signed with Astralwerks who issued her debut EP “Room 93” in October that year. Introducing the singer’s emotive vocal delivery and songwriting, reminiscent of British singer Ellie Goulding, the record catapulted Frangipane to online notoriety. Featuring the single “Ghost”, the EP also spawned four accompanying videos, garnering significant attention on music video platforms.

In support of the record the singer toured in support of The Kooks and embarked on her “American Youth Tour” alongside Young Rising Sons and OLIVVER. The remix EP “Room 93: The Remixes” was released in March 2015 featuring mixes by Arty, Lost Kings, and Sander Kleinenberg. Later in 2015 the singer made her South by Southwest festival debut, where according to social media, she was the most talked-about act of the festival.

Live reviews

I started listening to Halsey in the summer, as a lot of people that have the same music taste as me had been raving about her on twitter, tumblr and instagram. So i checked her music out on spotify and fell in love.

I then told my best friend about her and she too quickly became obsessed. When she released tickets for a London show we bought them straight away.

The effects were amazing, she looked amazing and her voice was incredible! Also, the two support acts (Flor and BØRNS) were really good.

I recommend getting standing tickets, as you will have a much better view (also the O2 Academy Brixton had the floor as a slope so you had a good view from wherever you were standing) and getting there when doors open as the queue moves fast and you'll be able to have a good spot and see the supporting acts.

I really loved her performance of New Americana, Ghost, Young God, Hurricane, Drive and Gasoline!!

The setlist was really well thought out and she was charming, beautiful and funny! One of the best shows I've been to!

There wasn't a massive variety of merch but, as someone who goes to concerts a lot, it was a really really good show. 100% worth the money!

The moment the bass kicked in and the lights went down, I could feel her energy in the air. All of her love, all of her peace was radiating throughout the ballroom and crashing like waves into each and every single persons chest. When she finally appeared in a red jumpsuit and a black top, my heart stopped. Everything in the world came to a pause and she was there, giving her life on stage. After several costume changes and adjustments and beautiful stage presence, Halsey began to address some issues that have come about in the US and in doing so, she reminded us all to be proud. Proud of our race, sexuality, gender and everything in between. And when she looked out into the crowd, scanning our faces, passing her love individually to every pair of eyes she met, I almost felt as though her eyes caught me, way up in the balcony beyond human sight, and I swear she smiled.

Not only is Halsey's stage presence intensely welcoming and energetic, but her voice is absolutely stunning. Even with all her movement and dancing she still manages to sound almost identical to her recordings. I have so much love and respect for her talent and I hope to see her again live very soon.

New Jersey pop singer Ashley Nicolette Frangipane better known by her stage persona of Halsey is the next in a long line of icy cool teen stars attempting to break out of the States. Although she is only 20 years old, there is something quite old headed and mature about Halsey. Perhaps it is due to the fact you can really understand the mixed inspirations of Slick Rick, Bone Thugs-n-Harmony, Alanis Morisette, The Cure and 2Pac when watching her live.

There is clear adoration for the indie scene that she grew up surrounded by whilst the hip hop bass lines are turned up to the max during the show. She has a great confidence too for somebody so young as she enthuses the crowd with ease and makes them jump along to tracks they have not even heard of. The debut album is set for release this year so therefore a number of tracks are showcased tonight and there is a strange electricity that seems to point towards this being one of the most exciting releases to come.

Halsey was fucking amazing. It was a very fun show and I really liked that it was general admission. I waited in line in the cold for about 4 hours and there were around 150 to 200 people in front of me. When I got onto the venue everyone was really nice and I somehow worked my way up to 3rd row. There was a lot of pushing but that's to be expected at a general admission show. Olivver the kid went on first and he played about 5 songs his music was really good and even though the crowd didn't know him, we had a good time. Next was Young Rising Sons, Adam was very involved in the crowd and was always holding ours hands and signing to us. He handed a girl his mic for about 30 seconds was constantly making eye contact with people. Finally Halsey came on. She played 12 songs and fucking killed it. She had a lot of attitude and went all around the stage. She wasn't as involved in the crowd as YRS was but her show was fucking amazing

Halsey is truly amazing live. Her energy on stage was incredibly high throughout the entirety of the show: she never seems to get tired! Her voice sounds identical to that of the studio versions of her songs, even when she is jumping around and engaging with the crowd (interacting with the front row), and EVEN when the end of the show came, she still hit the notes effortlessly. Furthermore, her outfit changes were executed smoothly and quickly, not giving the crowd much time to even register her temporary disappearances. The lights and sounds also added to her performance (although I would say that there was quite a lot of fast flashing lights, which is bad for my head!). Overall, it was truly amazing, and she had everyone else tirelessly dancing and singing along through the entire concert. I would definitely go to see her again!

The best concert I've ever been to in my entire life... granted I've only been to 2... but Halsey has been my idol ever since I discovered her, and it was a dream come true seeing her life. If I get enough money I may go to her last concert at Madison Square Garden seeing as I'm originally from New York, and it would be cool to be able to say "yeah I went to the first concert and the last concert of her Final Installment" It is my dream come true, and I hope I can meet her one day... if I didn't cry enough at the concert from her being so amazing I can't even imagine meeting her!! But I 10/10 recommend you see her in concert. I can't stop posting about it everywhere, Twitter, Instagram, and Snapchat got SPAMMED with all my videos and pictures that I took. I can't wait to see her again! :)

Attended the second night of Halsey's residency at Webster Hall on Thursday (9th May). I was fortunate enough to get a ticket during the second round. (She had reclaimed prior tix from scalpers.) Her fan base is incredibly passionate about her, and tis easy to see why.

The majority of the set list covered her latest album, "Hopeless Fountain Kingdom". "Bad at Love" was a definite crowd pleaser. "Now or Never", "Sorry", "Walls Could Talk" and "Strangers" were additional gems. Though being in General Admission was an insane crush, I would gladly see her again.

She definitely fed off the energy of the crowd, and we returned it in spades. She effortlessly danced across WH's small stage. After remarking how far she was from her audience at one point, she then jumped into the crowd.

Halsey, she was absolutely amazing live. She spoke to the whole crowd and it felt like she really connected to the crowd. Her songs were amazing live and her dancing was breathtaking. The lights were as it was searching for the right crowd member to shine it's multicoloured brightness to illuminate oneself. But the lights were certainly not 'overdone' in any means. Halsey is a great person to who will try to take time to meet with the fans. In my personal experience I waited a couple hours outside to even catch another glimpse of her. When she came out she spoke again to us that were left about her experience and what really could you ask more of ? All and all I would definitely go to another one of her concerts if the opportunity came up again. Would recommend for any fan of hers.

I find it hard to put into words how amazing I felt at Halsey's Houston show on October 25th. There were fans of so many different races, sexualities, and ages, and once Halsey started singing it's as if the whole crowd became one person and we all just connected so deeply with the music and the artist. Halsey is one of the few artists who will go out of their way to communicate with their fans. She didn't just go up there, sing, and leave. She talked to us about love, heartache, and being strong in the face of hate and adversity and that just made her performance ten times more emotional and amazing for me. Not to mention, the special effects, dancing, and opening acts were breathtaking. Halsey can put on quite a show and I would strongly recommend going to see her live.

The concert was amazing. The stage was lit sooo well that even from far you could see it. It’s a must go to concert because in between songs Halsey sometimes has some really deep conversations with the audience and parts of it are very inspiring. In her concert yesterday in Wolf Trap Vienna she said that she doesn’t like being at the top away from the audience. That’s why she had a really pretty staircase that could take her closer to us. At one point she came walking down the side way of the crowd and everyone went crazy. She’s says that we’re all relatable no matter who you are: guy, girl someone’s girlfriend of ex. We can all relate in someway!! I could write an essay on this but it’ll be too long:)

Halsey has announced a new North American tour, dubbed Love And Power , to take place this summer in support of If I Can’t Have Love, I Want Power .

The New Jersey-born musician released their fourth album last August and will now take it on tour for the first time from May.

The gigs will kick off in West Palm Beach, FL on May 17 and continue on until July 9, when the tour concludes at FivePoint Amphitheatre in Irvine, CA. All shows will be held at outdoor venues and will follow Live Nation’s COVID-19 protocol, which requires all attendees to show proof of full vaccination or a negative COVID test.

Halsey will be supported by British grunge star Beabadoobee and London alt-pop newcomer PinkPantheress between May 17 to June 8 (except May 21). LA indie-pop band The Marias and TikTok make-up artist-turned-pop star Abby Roberts will join them from June 16 to July 9, excluding June 21 where Wolf Alice will open.

“it’s been far too long and i could not be more excited to see you all,” Halsey wrote on Twitter . “the love and power tour is coming this summer.” Tickets will go on general sale on Friday (February 4) and will be available to purchase here .

Some of the tour dates include festival headline appearances, including at Hangout Fest in Alabama and Governors Ball in New York .

In December, Halsey released an extended edition of If I Can’t Have Love, I Want Power , featuring two versions of their 2020 single “Nightmare,” as well as the track “People Disappear Here.” Both songs had previously been released on special US retailer releases of the record last year.

Weeks before that release, the pop icon shared a new video for “Honey,” which appeared on the Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross-produced album. The clip saw the star getting covered in honey while performing the track.

On March 2, Halsey will be honored at the BandLab NME Awards 2022 , where she will receive the Innovation Award. “I wasn’t expecting [this], I was very surprised,” she told NME when the news was announced last year. “But it’s really, really awesome – I think you start to get really sad and nervous about how your music connects when you’re not around to bring it to life, and to know that it’s still resonating is really, really cool.”

About halsey.

Ashley Nicolette Frangipane (IPA: /ˌfrændʒɪˈpɑːni/ FRAN-jih-PAH-nee; born September 29, 1994), known professionally as Halsey (/ˈhɔːlzi/ HAWL-zee), is an American singer and songwriter. Halsey was born and raised in New Jersey. Gaining attention from self-released music on social media platforms, she was signed by Astralwerks in 2014 and released her debut EP, Room 93, later that year. She released her debut studio album, Badlands, in 2015. The album was later certified Double Platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), as were its tracks "Colors" and "Gasoline". In 2016, Halsey was featured on The Chainsmokers' single "Closer", which topped the charts in over 10 countries, and was later certified 14× Platinum by the RIAA. Her second studio album, Hopeless Fountain Kingdom (2017), consisted of more "radio-friendly" music than her previous releases; its singles "Now or Never" and "Bad at Love", both reached the top 20 of the Billboard Hot 100, with the latter peaking in the top five. In 2018, she released the single "Eastside" alongside Benny Blanco and Khalid, which reached the top ten on the Billboard Hot 100. That same year, she was moved to Capitol Records. Halsey's third studio album, Manic (2020), became her best selling album worldwide, while its lead single "Without Me" became her most successful single as a lead artist. Her fourth studio album, If I Can't Have Love, I Want Power (2021), moved away from her previous sound in favor of a darker industrial sound; described by Halsey as "the album [she] always wanted to make", it was produced by Nine Inch Nails members Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross and received generally positive reviews. In 2023, Halsey left Capitol, following a controversy surrounding the release of the non-album single "So Good" the previous year. In 2020, Billboard reported that Halsey has sold over 1 million albums and received over 6 billion streams in the United States. She is noted for her distinctive singing voice. Her awards include three Billboard Music Awards, as well as a Billboard Women in Music Award, an American Music Award, one GLAAD Media Award, an MTV Video Music Award, and nominations for three Grammy Awards. Halsey was named Songwriter of the Year by BMI Film & TV Awards in 2021. She was also included on Time's annual list of the 100 most influential people in the world in 2020. Aside from music, she has been involved in suicide prevention awareness, sexual assault victim advocacy, and racial justice protests.

Halsey’s ‘Love and Power’ Tour Only Hitting Outdoor Venues

By Larisha Paul

Larisha Paul

Halsey is gearing up to get back on the road for the first time since their Manic world tour was cut short in early 2020. Now, the singer is returning for a tour of North America hitting solely outdoor venues in support of If I Can’t Have Love, I Want Power.

The aptly titled Love and Power tour will kick off at the iThink Financial Amphitheater in West Palm Beach, Florida, on May 17 and stretch through July 9, when it will conclude with a show at Irvine, California’s FivePoint Amphitheater. Ticket sales begin Friday, Feb. 4.

Joining Halsey on the Love and Power tour for select dates will be Beabadoobee, Pinkpantheress, the Marías, Abby Roberts, and Wolf Alice. A number of shows on the tour, including stops in New York, Alabama, and Wisconsin, double as festival appearances. Last week, it was announced that Halsey would headline Governors Ball in New York on June 11.

The tour also marks Halsey’s first complete collection of shows to be announced since they gave birth to their first child last year. Having publicly documented their experience with pregnancy and endometriosis over the course of their career, the singer opened up on the press cycle for If I Can’t Have Love, I Want Powe r about how finally reaching this milestone goal came with stigma for the future of their career.

“I think that the weight of … a female artist [is] deciphering time as not your enemy, when you’ve been taught for so long to think that it is. ‘Don’t get too old. Don’t get pregnant because then you can’t go on tour,’” Halsey told Apple Music’s Zane Lowe . “It’s really nice to be able to look at time as an ally, where for me time has been the best thing that’s ever happened to me. It’s allowed me to grow and allowed me to heal and allowed me to develop.”

Halsey Just Announced Her Summer Love And Power Tour

The tour includes only outdoor venues.

Halsey is the latest star to announce a tour. On Jan. 31, the singer (who uses she/they pronouns) revealed they’ll be hitting the road later this summer for their Love and Power tour. Halsey will tour across the United States and in Canada in support of her most recent album, If I Can't Have Love, I Want Power , which dropped in August.

Taylor Swift Is Not Attending the 2024 Met Gala to Focus on European Tour Dates

Swift kicks off her Europe tour in Paris on May 9

Melody Chiu is an Executive Editor at PEOPLE overseeing music, events and emerging content. She has been with the brand since 2009, editing, writing and reporting across all entertainment verticals. She has written cover stories on Taylor Swift, Selena Gomez, Melissa McCarthy, Blake Shelton, Jordan Turpin and Sandra Oh. The Los Angeles native graduated from the University of Southern California and has appeared on Extra! , The Talk, Access Hollywood and Good Morning America .

Taylor Swift is skipping the 2024 Met Gala , PEOPLE can confirm.

Despite reports that she would be attending , the singer, who just dropped her Tortured Poets Department album on April 19, is sitting out fashion's biggest night. Instead, she'll be focusing on rehearsals and tour prep ahead of her Eras Tour dates picking back up on May 9 in Paris before traveling all over Europe during the spring and summer.

The Met Gala, which always takes place on the first Monday in May, will be held on May 6, which would have been a tight squeeze ahead of the tour for Swift, 34.

Emma McIntyre/TAS23/Getty

TMZ previously reported that Swift and her boyfriend, Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, would not be attending the Met Gala this year.

Swift has already attended the prestigious night six times (her most recent appearance was in 2016) while Kelce has yet to make his debut at the prestigious event.

The Grammy winner has had a huge couple of weeks, following the release of The Tortured Poets Department as she prepares to head back out on tour. She has taken over the Billboard chart (again!), has seen her album rack up 1 billion Spotify streams in a week and emotionally shared glowing reviews for her work .

No big deal, right?

John Shearer/Getty

While there’s going to be a blank space with Swift absent, the Met Gala is sure to bring out all the heavy hitters in fashion.

This year’s theme is centered on the “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion” exhibit, which will feature approximately 250 items — including 15 significant pieces such as an 1877 Charles Frederick Worth silk satin ball gown — that span over 400 years of history. “It is very much an ode to nature and the emotional poetics of fashion,” said Andrew Bolton, Wendy Yu Curator in Charge of the Costume Institute.

Expectedly, the dress code is themed “The Garden of Time” and is inspired by J.G. Ballard’s 1962 short story of the same name. The story follows a count and countess living “in their utopia of leisure, art, and beauty,” as noted by Vogue , who predicts that stars will show up in ensembles paying homage to florals, music and time.

John Lamparski/Getty

Zendaya , Jennifer Lopez , Chris Hemsworth and Bad Bunny will lead the pack as the four co-chairs of the night. Despite the Met Gala being a few weeks away, some of them have yet to finalize their looks (who can blame them, it’s a lot of pressure).

The Challengers actress, an already five-time attendee (her insane Cinderella transformations on the famous steps is simply unforgettable) told Vanity Fair recently that she still doesn’t “really know” what she’s wearing, but she has “ideas.”

Meanwhile, the This is Me…Now singer is still ruminating over a few potentials. “I have a few different sketches. I’m still deciding,” Lopez told Vogue this week. “I’m also one of those people who chooses at the last minute. Like, I like choices, and then I go, ‘Okay, this is how I feel today,’ and then we try to kinda create some type of amazing look — ‘cause that is the night for looks!”

Thanks for contacting us. We've received your submission.

Matty Healy’s ex Halsey appears to have shown her support for Taylor Swift after the release of “The Tortured Poets Department.”

The “Without Me” singer shared a photo of her boyfriend, Avan Jogia , wearing a pair of sweatpants released in conjunction with Swift’s emotional new album, which features many songs about the demise of her relationship with Healy.

Halsey, 29, famously dated The 1975 frontman in 2015, but they ultimately split, prompting each artist to pen songs about the other. Halsey’s biting hit “Colors” is rumored to be about Healy and his past drug abuse, while fans believe the British band’s “The Sound” could be about the former couple’s brief romance.

The “Fortnight” singer, meanwhile, first had a short-lived romance with Healy in 2014, and the pair rekindled once again last summer.

Healy, 35, attended a few of Swift’s Eras Tour concerts last summer, and the musical artists were also spotted kissing during intimate date nights in New York City.

Swift, 34, and the “Chocolate” crooner’s relationship eventually fizzled in light of the backlash from Swifties who disapproved of Healy and his controversial antics .

Healy, who is now dating model Gabbriette Bechtel, faced questions from paparazzi this week about Swift’s new album, but the “She’s American” singer claimed he hadn’t “really listened to that much of it, but I’m sure it’s good.”

Healy’s mom, famed broadcaster Denise Welch, also joked this week that she “wasn’t aware” of Swift’s new diss track-filled album , which also takes aim at Kim Kardashian and Kanye West .

“I haven’t heard anything about it,” Welch said on her talk show, “Loose Women.” “Anyway, I wish her all the best.”

Billie Eilish flashes a devilish grin on the red carpet.

At just 22-years-old, Billie Eilish has accomplished more than most recording artists will in their entire lives.

Over the past decade, the “Bad Guy” singer released two number one albums, hosted “Saturday Night Live” and collected nine Grammy Awards and two Academy Awards to name just a few of her many impressive achievements.

This year, she’s going back for more.

Eilish just announced she is embarking on the worldwide ‘HIT ME HARD AND SOFT: THE TOUR’ in support of her upcoming album with the same name, due out May 17.

The worldwide tour includes a stop at Newark, NJ’s Prudential Center on Wednesday, Oct. 9 as well a trio of back-to-back-to-back gigs at New York City’s Madison Square Garden on Oct. 16-18.

After Eilish wraps the North American leg of ‘HIT ME HARD AND SOFT,’ she’s slated to perform at venues all over the world including in Australia, Sweden, Germany, France, and the United Kingdom.

Her 10-month run concludes at Dublin’s 3Arena on July 27, 2025.

If you want tickets to see Eilish deliver the hits as well as debut tracks from her new album live this year, tickets for all U.S. and Canadian concerts can be found as soon as today.

Although inventory isn’t available on Ticketmaster until Friday, May 3, fans who want to ensure they have tickets ahead of time can purchase on sites like Vivid Seats before tickets are officially on sale.

Vivid Seats is a secondary market ticketing platform, and prices may be higher or lower than face value, depending on demand.

They have a 100% buyer guarantee that states your transaction will be safe and secure and will be delivered before the event.

The tour will head from Canada to the U.S. for cross-country dates from October through December. In February and March, Eilish hits Australia then travels to Europe from April through July. There are 12 UK dates including six in London.

Eilish, who is a proponent of sustainability, has said the upcoming tour will be the most eco-friendly yet. For the forthcoming album, she will release a limit of eight variants of vinyl through her website as well as all major retailers and all produced with “the most sustainable practices available.” The standard black variant is made from 100% recycled black vinyl and the other seven colored vinyl issues will be made from ECO-MIX or BioVinyl.

Per her website , Eilish “is using a range of solutions as she works with her team towards constant improvement. All merchandise clothing uses residual dead stock from prior productions, organic or recycled polyester or cotton, non-toxic dye inputs and intentional design processes for circularity, reduced climate impact and regeneration to reduce harm to people and planet. Posters are made from 100% recycled paper.”

Since 2019, Eilish has partnered with nonprofit Reverb to reduce her tours’ environmental footprint, engage fans in climate action, and support nonprofit organizations and climate projects.

She has also said she would not be releasing any singles in advance of the album, telling Rolling Stone , “Every single time an artist I love puts out a single without the context of the album, I’m just already prone to hating on it. I really don’t like when things are out of context. This album is like a family: I don’t want one little kid to be in the middle of the room alone.” She also previously wrote on Instagram, “not doing singles i wanna give it to you all at once… finneas and i truly could not be more proud of this album and we absolutely can’t wait for you to hear it.”
