Alicia Keys Announces ‘Keys to the Summer’ 2023 North American Tour
- By Larisha Paul
Larisha Paul
Alicia Keys will spend her upcoming summer on the road playing shows as part of the Keys to the Summer tour. The stretch of North American dates will find the singer making stops at 23 arenas with a 360-degree stage set to pack in as many fans as possible.
“The Keys to the Summer tour is going to be completely unforgettable and unmissable,” Keys shared in a statement. “I describe it as a celebration of freedom and self-liberation! It’s going to be colorful, magical and will light up your body, soul and all of your senses! This is my first time creating a 360 experience and we’ve made sure it’s like nothing you’ve ever seen! I’m so excited to see y’all this summer!”

The Keys to the Summer tour marks the singer’s return to North America just under a year after she wrapped the second leg of the Alicia + Keys world tour in support of her seventh and eighth studio albums Alicia and Keys , released in 2020 and 2021, respectively. Before then, she hadn’t been on an official tour since 2013’s Set the World on Fire tour. Now, it seems, Keys is making up for lost time.

Alicia keys is soulful and sensational, she can get the crowd on their feet and she can also get them sat down listening as she hits every note perfectly as she hammers out her beautiful ballads. You may think you don't know many of her songs but tune after tune you scream " I know this song". As much as she is a soulful singer she can also play the piano thrashing them keys to make the songs come alive and wow does she make a party swing. We all have our favourite songs but mine has got to be "one" although not accompanied by U2 it still sounds awesome with her backing singers. Her dancers are hot and sassy and that is just the men but she has fun with her dancers and although not one to chat for ever during her set she does interact with the crowd.
Towards the end of her set when she sang Empire State of mind / New York the roof lifted ... So tickets were reasonable priced, the set was long and the quality of the artist was spot on.... Don't miss out next time Alicia tours - you won't be disappointed.

After over 2 years, Alicia Keys made her return to Nashville, Tennessee on Sept. 24, 2022 to conclude “The Alicia + Keys World Tour”. From the moment her silhouette emerged on stage to her last wave goodbye, the crowd’s energy, love, and admiration for the 15-time Grammy award-winning artist was emphatic. Keys opened with songs like “Wasted Energy” off the 2020 album ALICIA and “New Day” from the 2012 album Girl On Fire and continued to sing through her impressive catalog as the night went on.
Keys welcomed Jill Scott to the stage to give their first-ever, live joint performance of Keys’ song titled “Jill Scott” that features the 3-time Grammy award-winning artist. Keys and Scott also performed “The Way” off of Scott’s 2000 album Who is Jill Scott? – Words and Sounds, Vol. 1 .
Amidst the many cheers between songs, Keys’ expressed how the crowd’s energy was just what she wanted as she said, “I wanted us to reconnect after being disconnected for so long”. Keys then made her way to a B-Stage set up in the lawn-seat section of Ascend Amphitheater where she played the songs “Skydive”, “Is It Insane” and “Only You” off of her 2021 album KEYS . She gave the crowd two options for each song and allowed their cheers to determine which version of each song would be performed – either the “Original” version played on piano, or the “Unlocked” version played with its fully produced studio tracks. Keys stated this portion of her set was inspired by the Apollo Theater in New York City where the audience gets to choose what is best.
Keys took a moment to introduce her next song stating, “this song is about faith, this song is about hope, this song is about never giving up on your wildest dream.” She then asked the crowd to shine their cell phone lights like stars in the night sky. As she made her way through the crowd back to the main stage, Keys performed her iconic chorus from “Empire State Of Mind”.
As Keys came closer to the end of her set, she welcomed Nashville’s own Fisk Jubilee Singers to join her on stage for a rendition of her hit song, “Fallin’”. Keys closed out the night with a powerful encore performance of “If I Ain’t Got You” from the 2003 album The Diary Of Alicia Keys .

Alicia Keys brings Keys To The Summer Tour to KFC Yum! Center
In any other week, Alicia Keys coming to Louisville would’ve been the talk of the town, but this week she had the unenviable position of following Beyoncé’s Renaissance World Tour by just a few days. It’s hard not to compare the two icons, both Black women with R&B roots who blew up in the early aughts and whose music and identities have helped shape American culture in the 21st century. They’ve recorded together, they’ve toured together, and less than a week before playing in Kentucky, they dined together . The difference in their success is one of scale. Despite her enormous successes, Keys has half the Grammy Awards that Beyoncé has collected, half the monthly listeners on Spotify, and is playing a venue with less than half the capacity. But if one were to expect less of a show because of these details, they’d be setting themselves up for a pleasant surprise.
The Keys to the Summer Tour has been promoted as a 360-degree, in-the-round experience, but that really doesn’t do it justice. The diamond-shaped stage at the center of the arena would’ve been enough to deliver on the experience promised, but there are also two runways extending out from each end of the stage that run lengthwise across the arena. One runway leads into a large staircase that carves into a lower section of seating, with another platform stage on top. Not only does this in-the-round design allow Keys to perform in 360-degrees to her audience, but it also gives her two walkways, a staircase, and a second stage to perform on. Sacrificing a few sections of seating to create a larger performance space is evidence of Keys’ intentional prioritization of intimacy over capacity, and this extra mobility ensured that every seat in the house had a good view of the artist. Even the cheapest seats felt unusually close for a large arena show.
The setlist leaned further into greatest hits territory than any individual album, which meant that fans got to hear popular singles from all of her albums (except for 2022’s Santa Baby, for obvious reasons). The show began appropriately with “Fallin’,” her massive debut single from 2001, which she sang while sauntering onto the stage to her piano. Keys wore a green pantsuit with wavy lines descending vertically — white on one side, and shades of green on the others. She had a matching green bra beneath the unbuttoned jacket and wore her hair tied back into a long braid decorated with dozens of sparkling hair clips. Keys swaggered and danced across the stage all night, considerately offering her attention to each section of the arena. Occasionally Keys would lock into her piano, but she never sat down. In fact she had no seat, instead choosing to maintain a power stance while playing with one foot resting on the elevated platform that her piano rests upon. Additionally, the portion of the stage with her piano on it slowly rotated to offer the entire arena a 360-degree view as she played.
Although Alicia Keys was clearly the star, it was the concept and staging of the production that allowed her talent to shine so brightly. To execute this Keys brought in prolific music video director Diane Martel. In addition to directing three of Keys’ own videos, Martel has crafted her own visual legacy in pop culture. She’s worked with everyone from Beyoncé and J-Lo to Wu-Tang Clan and Insane Clown Posse, but is perhaps best known now for directing the controversial “Blurred Lines” video with Robin Thicke, T.I. and Pharrell Williams. Working with Keys and Martel to conceive and execute their shared vision was Chiara Stephenson, a fabulously talented production designer whose past work has elevated performances from Lorde, Björk and Florence and the Machine. Their keen visual eyes added an extra layer to the performance, and the images displayed on the video monitors would at times look less like a live event taking place and more like a music video being filmed right before your eyes. Whether it was the blue laser pyramid formed around the center diamond stage or the circular halo light that descended and rotated, the production was notably and consistently impressive.
With the exception of a few solo features, Keys was supported throughout the night by a minimalist band of musicians who mostly stuck to the center diamond. When it came time to perform her 2004 Grammy Award winning single “My Boo,” Keys was joined by a male dancer who acted as a surrogate for her duet partner Usher. Shortly afterwards she climbed the staircase to her second stage where a hidden elevator allowed her to descend out of view, giving her dancer and her band time to flex in the spotlight. After the jam, Keys ascended from beneath the second stage with a new outfit and a new upright piano. Her costume change maintained the green color theme of her first outfit but with an added degree of glamor. Custom designed by Self-Portrait, the glistening green bodysuit featured a triangle window at her midriff and was complemented by a floor-length trench coat of the same design. Keys used this portion of the set to highlight the women in attendance, dedicating solo renditions of “A Woman’s Worth” and “Superwoman” to the ladies in the house while a montage of women’s faces displayed across the video screens.
Although the set was littered with hit songs from the past 20 years, it was the final stretch of the set that delivered the most excitement. In rapid succession, Keys ran through “Girl on Fire,” “Empire State of Mind (Part II) Broken Down,” “In Common,” “No One” and “If I Ain’t Got You.” If you added up the RIAA certifications for all of these songs then this section alone would be certified 23x Platinum. If you include ringtone sales and Jay-Z’s version of “Empire State of Mind” on which Keys sang the chorus , then it’s closer to 34x Platinum . This portion of the set even included a cover of “Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)” by Eurythmics, the only song of the night that she hasn’t recorded in the studio.
By the end of her hour and 45-minute performance, Alicia Keys had made abundantly clear why she’s a household name. The number of hits she’s had is staggering, and the charisma, talent and showmanship on display at the Keys to the Summer Tour is enough to silence any critic. Those who attended were treated to a more intimate experience than what’s being offered on the other headline-grabbing stadium tours this summer, and Keys puts forth a strong argument that sometimes, smaller can be better. Rather than relying on costume changes and big setpieces to dazzle the audience, Keys’ current tour proves that you can make just as big of an impact by polishing and refining your presentation to near perfection. In other words, it’s not the size of the stage that matters, but how you use it.
Of course, the real winner in all of this is the city and residents of Louisville. Not only were we fortunate enough to host two major musical icons in the same week, but both venues were completely packed and both artists made a point to compliment our collective voices while we sang along to their songs. Do crowds in Louisville really sound better than in other cities? Beyoncé said so, and Alicia Keys seemed similarly impressed by our harmonies. Pop star compliments may not be something we can take to the bank per sé, but it does reflect well on us as a city. Positive experiences for the artists that come here and the audiences that see them, plus strong ticket sales, suggests that Louisville’s future as a concert destination could be bright.

'GIRL ON FIRE' GRAPHIC NOVEL
"girl on fire" graphic novel.
From New York Times bestselling author and 15-time GRAMMY® Award-winning artist Alicia Keys comes a new authentic and poignant coming-of-age young adult graphic novel, about finding the strength within when your whole world changes in an instant.
Lolo Wright always thought she was just a regular fourteen-year-old dealing with regular family drama: her brother, James, is struggling with his studies; her dad’s business constantly teeters on the edge of trouble; and her mother . . . she left long ago. But then Lolo’s world explodes when a cop pulls a gun on James in a dangerous case of mistaken identities. Staring down the barrel, with no one else to help, Lolo discovers powers she never knew she had. Using only her mind, she literally throws the cop out of the way.
Problem is that secrets like Lolo’s don’t stay a secret for long. Skin, a dangerous dealer with designs on taking over the neighborhood, hears of Lolo’s telekinetic abilities and decides that he needs her in his crew. Skin might not have Lolo’s powers, but he’s got nothing to lose and is willing to do whatever it takes to get what he wants. And what he wants is Lolo.
Lolo’s not willing to let Skin use her to hurt the people—and neighborhood—that she loves. But it’s going to take a whole different kind of bravery to stand-up for what’s right, especially after Lolo’s mom returns suddenly and turns Lolo’s whole world upside-down. For too long, it’s true, Lolo’s had her head in the clouds, but this time, it’s on her . . . and she’s not backing down.
Girl on Fire is a young adult graphic novel about a girl who’s a flame. It’s the first-ever graphic novel from beloved GRAMMY® Award-winning artist Alicia Keys, co-written by Andrew Weiner and illustrated by Brittney Williams.

Things To Do
Theater | review: ‘hell’s kitchen’ on broadway is alicia keys’ lively new york coming-of-age story.
NEW YORK — The music of Alicia Keys is well suited to a jukebox musical: the burst of energy that flows from hits like “Girl on Fire” are dynamic blasts perfectly suited to a show clearly drawing from Keys’ own origin story as a kid growing up in the federally subsidized artist’s haven Manhattan Plaza in Hell’s Kitchen, a transformative influence on that neighborhood and a tower that has sheltered all manner of Gotham creatives from the saxophonist Ricky Ford to the actor Timothée Chalamet .
“She’s livin’ in the world and it’s on fire,” that thrilling song goes, here calling out to the title of the new musical at the Shubert Theatre and aligned with Keys’ 17-year-old self. “Filled with catastrophe. But she knows she can fly away.”
There are many other Keys songs in “Hell’s Kitchen,” including “Fallin’,” “No One,” and “If I Ain’t Got You.” But, In essence, the book writer Kristoffer Diaz took the lean lyrics of “Girl on Fire” and crafted his happily romantic and adoringly biographical plot.
Therein, Ali (Maleah Joi Moon) is the Keys alter ego who describes opening the elevators of the building onto a loving community of dancers, musicians and actors, many of them surrogate parents and mentors, including a determined if elderly pianist and teacher, named Miss Liza Jane (Kecia Lewis). It’s visiting the soulful Miss Liza and her Ellington Room piano that helps the rebellious but deep-feeling and interracial Ali fly away from fights with her supremely protective white mom, Jersey (Shoshana Bean) and the disappointments of her mostly absent but well-meaning dad Davis (Brandon Victor Dixon), a jazz musician who completes the other side of Ali’s musical education.
In much the same way that Lin-Manuel Miranda’s “In the Heights” was a tribute to the people of Washington Heights, so is “Hells Kitchen” a tribute to the artistic history of Manhattan Plaza, although it’s a much more personal show. Its music and lyrics were written by a hugely talented star, and it tells of her formative years and much of its appeal relies on your fascination with all of that. I suspect there will be plenty of takers for the young life of Alicia Keys, even if we’re left wondering at times what is happening on all those other floors.
There’s a great deal to enjoy here, including a phenomenal performance by Lewis, not to mention how the director Michael Greif adds his signature steely edge to what is otherwise deeply sentimental material. Better yet, the choreographer Camille A. Brown adds a high-energy movement suite that manages to be performatively exciting without feeling overly removed from how real teenagers swagger around 10th Avenue after school. The show is a visual blast even though there is nothing excessive about Robert Brill’s set. It’s just so vibrant in its zest and energy.
The said, you will get zero surprises from a book that immediately signals it will be about a mother and daughter struggling through the latter’s teenage years and eventually arriving at a mutually appreciative rapprochement alongside a spiritual and creative mentor whose predictable exit creates the requisite sense of loss and recovery in Act 2.
Keys has sparked a big Broadway tribute to her mom, a wonderful thing to be able to do, especially since that mother is so spectacularly well played by Bean. A cynical marketeer might see this as a gambit for that ever-crucial Broadway audience of mother-daughter combo, but it nonetheless feels sincere, in part because Bean is so determined to keep everything grounded.

The young actress Moon has a formidable task on her plate here and she’s a charming lead. But she doesn’t always sing in the middle of the notes of these blazing Keys songs, or at least that was the case at the performance I saw. In all fairness, it sounded like her instrument was not at its healthiest in the typically exhausting run up to opening night. So that may not be your experience.
Dixon, though, sounds just as spectacular as Davis, embodying as he does the unreliable charmer, a stereotypical musician-dad for sure. I had to fight some irritation there and elsewhere at the broadness of the narrative strokes.
But kudos to Keys for making her younger self a needy pain in the neck, otherwise known as an artistically inclined teenager.

Former First Lady Michelle Obama shared photos on Monday of her recent trip to New York City for the opening night of the new musical “Hell’s Kitchen.” The former FLOTUS attended the Broadway event alongside a bevy of A-list stars on Saturday night.
For the occasion, Obama fashioned a belted Brandon Maxwell strapless top with a sheer long-sleeve shirt beneath. She also fashioned a pair of black cargo pants and completed the look with black, pointed toe heels. As for her accessories, Obama wore a pair of silver statement earrings, and styled her hair in a long, dramatic braid.

You and the cast should feel so proud.” Obama’s post also featured a candid snapshot of the former first lady chatting with the Grammy-winning singer. Keys wore an elevated denim look, fashioning a design by Paul Gaultier .
Obama’s post-White House style has certainly showcased a contemporary approach to fashion for the former first lady. The clothes she’s worn at past events feature a high-fashion, modern edge that is in direct contrast to the traditional ensembles she wore during her eight years in the White House. Obama demonstrated her proclivity for such modern style when she attended the New Orleans screening of “American Symphony,” for which she wore a Sergio Hudson leather look.
“Hell’s Kitchen” is a new jukebox musical with book by Kristoffer Diaz and music and lyrics by Alicia Keys. The show is a semi-autobiographical story of Keys’ life growing up in the titular New York City neighborhood.

The play stars a young woman, Ali, played by Maleah Joi Moon, and is centered around her life in Hell’s Kitchen—a neighborhood just steps away from Broadway. While there are themes of coming to age and everyday NYC life, it’s also a love story between the mother and the daughter. “My mother was and is a big part of my personal story. She’ll be joining me tonight on the blue carpet and I’m so glad to be sharing this milestone with her,” says Keys.

Hell’s Kitchen takes place in New York City during the ’90s, so Keys leaned into that for her hair. “This is the ’90s ‘wet look’! The perfect style to match my makeup and my head-to-to denim for the blue carpet,” she says. While ‘no makeup, makeup’ is now the choice for many of the “it girls” and has led to an explosion of skin tints on the market, Keys was an early adopter of this look. Her pared down look causing headlines. “I love embracing my skin, my choice, my power, and how I get to present,” states Keys. She expresses how her vibe has changed over the years. “When I first started out in the industry, I leaned into the smokey eye and a ’90s brown lip. I experimented with color. At one point in my journey, I felt like I didn’t have control over how I looked, and that’s the biggest change I’ve noticed compared to now,” she says.
Before Keys hit the carpet for the debut of Hell’s Kitchen , she let ELLE.com have an exclusive glimpse inside her prep process. Keep reading to see the products she used for her glowing skin and an accessory that screams “New York City.”
