Debuted in December 2018, the 2,918-passenger Celebrity Edge stands out for its modernity. The Edge is dressed to the nines in contemporary designs and features a diverse array of technologies, amenities, activities and dining venues on board. Passengers can delight in the ship's rooftop garden, take a dip in one of many ocean-facing pools, work up a sweat on the jogging track or relax at the on-site spa.

You'll find plenty of evening entertainment options, too, including themed bars and lounges, a club and a theater showcasing a variety of productions. The Edge was the first Celebrity ship fitted with the Magic Carpet – the line's cantilevered venue at sea that travels 13 stories. The open-air venue can be repositioned alongside several decks, allowing it to transform from a live music venue to a bar to an exclusive specialty restaurant, depending on its location.

For dining, passengers have 29 options to choose from. These include four main restaurants and specialty options serving a range of cuisines, from sashimi to French bistro classics. After a bite to eat, take a break and relax in your modern stateroom or suite. Every room offers technology that allows guests to control temperature, service and lighting with a touch screen. What's more, with a roughly 2-to-1 passenger-to-crew ratio, service across the ship will be spot on.

Celebrity Edge makes sailings across Europe, Asia, Australia and more.

What to Know About All 16 Ships in the Celebrity Cruises Fleet

Here’s what you need to know about every Celebrity Cruises ship.

celebrity cruise movies

Courtesy of Celebrity Cruises

Celebrity Cruises is among our readers' favorite mega-ship ocean lines — coming in at No. 1 in 2022 and No. 2 in 2023 as part of our World's Best Awards (WBA) — and it's easy to see why. This WBA Hall of Fame honoree truly shines with its sophisticated, tasteful decor and sleek onboard spaces, including swanky lounges, dazzling bars, gourmet specialty restaurants, and contemporary suites. Almost all Celebrity ships, except the three Xpedition-class vessels, offer standard amenities like casinos, retail shops, spas, and Broadway-level shows and entertainment. There's also the adults-only Solarium and The Retreat, the latter of which is reserved exclusively for suite guests. Paul Brady , Travel + Leisure ’s news director and cruise expert, told us, “Because its ships offer so much to do, Celebrity is a fantastic choice for families, who can choose from a huge array of well-designed staterooms and suites. Groups of friends, too, will find much to like, thanks to the brand's fantastic dining (and drinking) options.”

Meet the Expert

Paul Brady is the news director at Travel + Leisure and the brand's expert on all things cruise.

Kari Becker is a travel advisor at Marvelous Mouse Travels.

With a fleet of 16 ships, it can be tricky to determine which Celebrity ship is best suited for your specific needs.Travel advisor Kari Becker of Marvelous Mouse Travels explains, "Whatever your taste, there is a perfect Celebrity cruise to meet your needs." She continues, telling T+L, "There are three main classes: the Edge, Solstice, and Millennium classes, all with unique features, benefits, and advantages." The Millennium-class ships are smaller which, per Becker, may "offer a more personalized experience." Solstice is the largest class of Celebrity's fleet, says Becker. "When designed, these ships focused on innovation, with unique spaces including a real grass lawn, and unique onboard experiences, such as glass-making classes." Last but not least is Celebrity's Edge class. Per the pro, the ships in the line's newest class are "the largest of the fleet, offering more space for additional experiences and restaurants, including a massive pool deck, floating platform at sea (aptly called the Magic Carpet), and Rooftop Garden." All in all, she says, "The Edge series is for guests looking for transformative cruising and splendor with countless gourmet restaurants and immersive entertainment."

Ahead, we’ve listed every Celebrity ship currently in service — complete with their notable amenities, launch year, guest capacity, and other need-to-know insights — to help you determine which vessel is best for your next voyage.

Celebrity Ascent

Inaugural Year: 2023

Ship Class: Edge

Ship Capacity: 3,260 passengers

Celebrity’s newest ship is also its flashiest — in the best way possible. The Celebrity Ascent offers an expanded Retreat area (exclusive to suite guests), complete with a 40-percent-larger two-story sundeck, and the swanky Sunset Bar, which is 180 percent larger. Beyond The Retreat, there are 32 bars, restaurants, and lounges, a lush Rooftop Garden, an adults-only Solarium, the three-level Eden restaurant and entertainment venue, and the Magic Carpet, a floating platform that reaches 13 stories above sea level. Finally, stay in one of the Iconic Suites, the largest in the Celebrity fleet, for the ultimate splurge.

Celebrity Beyond

Inaugural Year: 2022

Celebrity Beyond is nearly identical to Celebrity Ascent . Both Edge-class sister ships have the same spectacular amenities and features, including a state-of-the-art spa and fitness center that’s sure to impress wellness-seekers, who will also be happy in one of the AquaClass Sky Suites, which offer in-room yoga mats and fitness equipment. It’s also worth noting that these suite guests also enjoy access to the SEA Thermal Suite and a dedicated spa concierge. Don’t miss the adults-only Solarium, the Rooftop Garden, the aforementioned Eden, or the Magic Carpet, which offers the best views at sea.

Paul Brady was onboard the Beyond in October 2022. “My stateroom, 9164, was a Sky Suite, with a king bed facing a private terrace and a clever roll-open mirror that let natural light into the spacious bathroom. Dining at the Daniel Boulud restaurant Le Voyage was one highlight — with seven courses — but so too were casual cocktails at Sunset Bar, with its touch of Moroccan design influence courtesy of Nate Berkus, who dreamed up the multi-level lounge,” said Brady of his experience.

Celebrity Apex

Inaugural Year: 2020

Ship Capacity: 2,910 passengers

The second Edge-class ship, Celebrity Apex , made its grand debut in 2020. It boasts an abundance of stylish onboard spaces, including the Rooftop Garden and the adults-only Solarium. Access to the exclusive Retreat area is reason alone to book one of the contemporary suites. Other highlights include the dazzling three-story Grand Plaza, where you’ll find the aptly named Martini Bar, one of 29 bars, lounges, and restaurants aboard Apex , along with the orange-hued Magic Carpet, which offers live music and a full bar 13 feet above sea level.

“I was fortunate to snag one of just a handful of Royal Suites on the ship, 12105, which had the look of a chic coastal Florida cottage, elevated with pops of bright green, geometric tiling, and contemporary art on the walls. The bathroom, with a deep soaking tub and spacious shower, rivaled any I’ve seen at land-based resorts,” said Brady of his November 2021 sailing. “Same with the Grand Plaza at the heart of the ship, a gathering place with a hotel lobby vibe in the best possible sense — and a glitzy Martini Bar.”

Ship Class: Xpedition

Ship Capacity: 16 passengers

With a passenger capacity of just 16, the Xploration is Celebrity’s smallest ship. As such, cruisers can expect an intimate onboard ambiance. When not out and about exploring the Galapagos, guests can hang in the lounge, relax in their suite (some with private balconies), and soak up some rays — or stargaze — on the hot tub-equipped sundeck.

Celebrity Constellation

Inaugural Year: 2002

Ship Class: Millennium

Ship Capacity: 2,184 passengers

This 22-year-old Celebrity ship offers a more refined, subdued atmosphere compared to the line’s newer ships, which boast flashier features like the Magic Carpet. The Rooftop Terrace area serves as a restaurant, bar, and outdoor movie theater, complete with cozy furnishings coupled with mouthwatering bites and sips. Meanwhile, the adults-only Persian Garden area in the spa is ideal for wellness-seeking cruisers.

Celebrity Summit

Inaugural Year: 2001

Ship Capacity: 2,218 passengers

Celebrity Summit, which cruises Alaska and the Caribbean, technically dates back to 2001; however, in 2019, it received a $75-million refurbishment to bring it a little more in line with Celebrity’s newest ships, including 2018’s Celebrity Edge . Expect stylish spaces galore, including the Sunset and Martini bars, plus a sleek Rooftop Terrace where cruisers can catch outdoor flicks while basking in the ocean views.

Celebrity Xpedition

Ship Class: Xpedition

Ship Capacity: 48 passengers

Last refurbished in 2018, Celebrity Xpedition was purposely built to cruise the Galapagos. The immersive onboard experience includes nightly lectures by certified naturalists from Galapagos National Park, who will be on board the entire sailing. Enjoy postcard-worthy views from the Panorama Deck, or take a dip in the hot tub on the Sunrise Deck. Passengers can choose from a handful of elegant rooms and suites; however, those who want their own balcony will need to spring on the latter.

Celebrity Infinity

Inaugural Year: 2000

Ship Capacity: 2,170 passengers

Celebrity Infinity is a favorite among laid-back cruisers — primarily couples and adult friend groups. Popular onboard hangout spots include the adults-only Solarium, the buzzy Rooftop Terrace, and, for suite guests, The Retreat. The ship also has a handful of specialty dining restaurants (in addition to complimentary ones, of course). Le Petit Chef is well worth the added fee thanks to a combination of gourmet eats and exhilarating entertainment complete with tabletop animations.

Celebrity Millennium

Inaugural Year: 1999

Ship Class: Millennium

Don’t sleep on Celebrity’s oldest ship, which includes a handful of fan-favorite amenities and spaces such as The Retreat, the Solarium, the Rooftop Terrace, and the Grand Foyer. Last refurbished in 2019, Millennium now features a more contemporary design aesthetic, similar to what you’d find on the newer ships. There are also more than 15 bars and restaurants on board.

5 things to love about Celebrity Beyond

Erica Silverstein

It's a risky move to name a ship Beyond, but Celebrity Cruises ' third Edge-class ship goes above and beyond in ways both expected and not.

The ship is the line's biggest yet , one deck higher and 20 meters longer than the two other ships in Celebrity's newest class, Celebrity Edge (which launched the line's new ship design concept in 2018) and Celebrity Apex (which debuted after a pandemic delay in 2021). The extra space allows for expanded and enhanced onboard venues as compared to Beyond's sister ships.

The detail and design that went into both public spaces and accommodations go beyond what I've seen on other cruise ships. And, hopefully, with an April launch, the ship will take cruisers past the limits of pandemic-era travel and into a new heyday for post-COVID-19 travel.

I was beyond thrilled to experience my first Edge-class ship during a two-night preview cruise to introduce Celebrity Beyond before its official debut cruise on April 27.

It's a ship targeted at Gen Xers, said Lisa Lutoff-Perlo, Celebrity Cruises' president and CEO, but with appeal for all. That's my generation, and I admit I fell hard for the ship's design-forward looks, inviting conversational nooks and cabins that are both modern and functional.

For cruise news, reviews and tips, sign up for TPG's cruise newsletter .

A short sailing was not enough time to truly experience all Celebrity Beyond has to offer and to learn where it shines and where it could still use some polish. Still, based on my intense two-day bonding session with the ship, here are five things to love about Celebrity Beyond.

Grand Plaza

celebrity cruise movies

The Grand Plaza is Celebrity's three-deck atrium area that the line has smartly designed to become the social heart of the ship. It's not a new concept for Celebrity or even its Edge class, but Beyond's version might just be the best because it was expanded to include one new restaurant (Daniel Boulud's Le Voyage) and one new-to-Edge-class bar (World Class Bar, previously found only on Solstice-class ships).

On older cruise ships across cruise lines, the atrium area can be dominated by shops, guest services and uninspiring lobby bars that are more convenience stops than destinations. Celebrity places those outlets elsewhere, anchors the Grand Plaza with its renowned Martini Bar and surrounds it with its top restaurants, coffee shop and bars. Not only is the Grand Plaza a key destination on the ship, but it's easy to get sucked into its lively scene when you're passing by on the way to or from dinner or the theater.

Related: 4 types of Celebrity Cruises ships, explained

By day, everyone pops round to Cafe al Bacio for a coffee or a complimentary pastry or to grab a beer and check the scores at Craft Social Bar. At night, the atrium is all abuzz with cruisers grabbing a pre- or post-dinner cocktail, watching the juggling martini bartenders compete with the LED chandelier for best show and grabbing a table at the terraced landings for a quick catch-up.

Dining venues like Raw on 5 and Fine Cut Steakhouse have lattice-style walls facing the plaza for diners who want to feel a part of the social hub, with seats along the windows as well for those who prefer sea views and quiet chats during mealtime. Only Le Voyage is hidden away behind sliding opaque doors, but the music and laughter leak in every time a new party comes through to dinner.

Sunset Bar and Rooftop Garden

celebrity cruise movies

Celebrity took some of Beyond's extra length and used it to expand the Rooftop Garden and Sunset Bar area of its top deck. The cruise line also let its design ambassador, Nate Berkus, have his way with the bar area. The result is an alfresco lounge area that feels like a chic resort hangout rather than simply another poolside bar.

The Rooftop Garden has gained two plunge pools cantilevered over the side of the ship. (Note: They're pools, not hot tubs.) You encounter them first as you make your way into the garden where patio seating sits between a large LED screen and the alfresco Rooftop Grill.

If you don't get distracted here by a meal or a movie, keep heading aft to the Sunset Bar. You'll be tempted to grab a seat at one of the inviting conversation nooks, but make your way first to the tropical-resort-style bar inspired by Berkus' travels. Here you can pick up a cool cocktail to sip while preening in your designer shades and sarong. You'll feel like an old-time movie star living it up in Miami, Havana, Singapore ... or wherever Beyond is currently sailing.

Cabin design

celebrity cruise movies

Celebrity put a lot of thought into designing accommodations for its Edge-class ships, and I instantly felt the difference when entering my AquaClass cabin. Not only does the room feel more spacious than your average cruise room, it was more functional as well.

Storage is always a tricky spot for cruise ship cabins, and I often complain about a lack of usable drawer space . Not on Celebrity Beyond. The closet is small, yes – especially with two giant spa bathrobes taking up half the space – but it's sectioned into one full-length hanging section and a shorter hanging section with three drawers underneath, perfectly sized for underwear, socks and swimsuits.

Related: Everything you need to know about Celebrity Cruises cabins and suites

Built into the wall next to it was additional hidden shelf storage. Out in the room, instead of a desk-style vanity with shallow drawers suitable only for small knick-knacks, Celebrity gave a nod to clean, Scandinavian design and paired a simple desktop with no shelves and a full-length mirror with an Ikea-style three-drawer bureau and hidden minifridge. All the drawers I needed, none of the ones I didn't.

celebrity cruise movies

You don't spend much time sitting side by side on a cruise ship couch, especially when the TV is across from the bed. So Celebrity ditched the traditional love seat for a chaise lounge-style sofa, where mostly I dumped my daypacks, but also I could lay back with my legs up and Wi-Fi call my family.

Celebrity Beyond, like its Edge-class sister ships, sports the line's controversial "infinite verandas." Instead of adding balconies externally to each cabin, Celebrity added a seating area and a wall of windows, where the top half comes down, like a car window, with the push of a button. Close the folding shutters behind the sitting area and you get a makeshift balcony. Leave them open and fresh air floods into the room.

I've heard that this concept isn't great in the hot, humid tropics. However, with cool, spring temperatures off the coast of England, it was amazing to lie on the bed with a book in the middle of the day and have the fresh air flow in. It does take more time to open and close the electric window and blinds, as well as the folding doors, than it does to draw drapes with a pull cord and open a door onto your private veranda.

The Retreat

celebrity cruise movies

If you can afford the suite life, Celebrity has taken its suite area a step beyond with this new ship. The suites and the suite spaces, designed by Kelly Hoppen, are gorgeous and have been regularly selling out, even with the ship not sailing full due to the pandemic.

Celebrity Beyond offers 22 more suites than its Edge-class siblings. That includes a new category of AquaClass Sky suites, which combine traditional Retreat suite perks and cabin size with AquaClass amenities, such as free passes to the thermal suite and breakfast and lunch at Blu, the AquaClass-only "clean cuisine" restaurant. The Iconic Suite is the largest in Celebrity's fleet, with an expansive private sun deck with hot tub and even a Peloton bike in the living room. Two-story Edge villas also impress with a private plunge pool and living wall.

Related: First look at Celebrity Apex, the second Edge-class ship

All of the 216 suites come with access to the Retreat Lounge, two-level sun deck (now 40% larger) with pool and Jacuzzi, and Luminae, the suite-only restaurant, with dishes created by chef Cornelius Gallagher and the line's culinary ambassador, Daniel Boulud. Cruisers also receive the services of a Personal Retreat Host (read: butler), 24-hour complimentary room service, premium Wi-Fi and drinks package, onboard and shore excursion credits, and priority everything, from boarding to theater seating.

Dining choices

celebrity cruise movies

I can't rate all of Beyond's dining after less than 48 hours on board, but the onboard dining concept deserves a shoutout. With the Edge class, Celebrity has taken both its complimentary and extra-charge restaurants to the next level.

On the included front, I loved the sleek and airy Oceanview Cafe buffet restaurant that actually feels inviting and spacious, rather than cramped with low ceilings, like on some cruise lines. Shoutouts to dedicated Indian food and gluten-free stations, not to mention a lunchtime cake display that put my own wedding cake to shame. The assortment of made-from-scratch breads and baked goods was always impressive.

Celebrity ditched the traditional main dining room for four themed restaurants that feel more intimate than banquet hall. The menus rotate nightly and are 75% the same, with the remaining quarter dedicated to exclusive dishes based on the theme of the venue (American, French, Italian and Mediterranean). You don't have to pay extra to eat in a different restaurant every night.

celebrity cruise movies

Among the extra-fee specialty venues, Celebrity Beyond boasts the first-ever Daniel Boulud restaurant at sea, Le Voyage, where he blends global flavors with his French cooking techniques. Honestly, I'd love to sample more of the buttery, warm brioche, but my meal in general was fine but didn't wow. I heard that the menu is still being fine-tuned as this was only Le Voyage's first week hosting guests, so perhaps in a few months meals will live up to Boulud's reputation and the $75 price tag to eat there.

The small venue can seat only 50 diners; a tasting menu ($125 cover charge) will soon roll out to accompany the current a la carte menu. Le Voyage is located just off the atrium, so grab a drink at the Martini Bar or World Class Bar before moseying on down for your two-hour dinner.

Related: The best meals you can have at sea

I was thoroughly wowed by my meal at Eden Restaurant, the back-of-ship dining and entertainment space filled with plants, views from a three-deck-high glass wall and more than a touch of whimsy. My halibut was beautifully crispy on top and moist inside, and the lemon berry tart was one of the better desserts I've eaten on a cruise ship. A meal here costs $55 per person.

Diners will also find numerous restaurant choices around the Grand Plaza, like a buzzy city neighborhood where something's always going on. These include Raw on 5, Fine Cut Steakhouse and Le Grand Bistro, which serves French bakery-style sandwiches and entrees at lunch and the animated Le Petit Chef menu in the evening.

Charges for In Room Movies on the Summit

Cool Cruiser

I couldn't believe that Celebrity Summit Charges $14.99 PPV for movies in your stateroom.  The only channels that were free was the making of the Edge, Safety video, and port shopping.  Errrr, I was very disappointed.  For a $4K cruise and they can't offer free movies.  I think that was pretty sad!  It's not like I wanted to watch movies all day, but my kids enjoy watching a movie at night before bed.  But at $15 a Pop....no way.

That must be a change.  We did 4 Celebrity cruises last year and had both free and pay per view movies as well a number of news, sports channels.

I would hope they have that same line-up if not more this spring!

Not on the Summit. If you got lucky, maybe you would hit a news channel if it came in clear.  Other than that, charge, charge, charge for ALL MOVIES they offered.    I was actually shocked.  I have never been on a cruise that charged for movies and or had nothing to watch other than "the port tapings" or a show they recorded of their dancers.

30,000+ Club

Wonder if that is going fleetwide?

At first,  S class ships had awesome movies..huge choice for free.  Gradually shrank...

M class had less of a choice but 1 or 2 free movie channels..

No way I'd pay!

Nebr.cruiser

Nebr.cruiser

Our recent Silhouette cruise had the $15 charge for movies also--ridiculous.  They also used to have a large variety of free on demand movies--dozens and dozens of choices.  In November there were six!! 'free' movies, and little else to watch.

I know this is petty, but we like to relax with movies at times.  The movies in the small theater were also bad, some were repeated, some very strange choices and it almost seemed as if they planned the times of those movies to interfere with almost anything else you wanted to do on purpose.

And that was the Christmas Cruise.    I felt the same way.....I was not going to pay $14.99 for a movie.  AND, they weren't even new releases.  They were old movies.

I agree.  The small movie screen they had on the back of the ship has sports playing most of the times.  They did have one or two holiday movies (but playing at dinner time).  Really??  Poor choices on the person planning times of the few movies they had.

:classic_wink:

Yes, I know. What do you think I am talking about.

20 minutes ago, funfamilytime said: Yes, I know. What do you think I am talking about.

I found out too after purchasing one and not realizing it was charged since I was used to the free On Demand ones (however it was like 2 in the morning w/ a few drinks under the belt). And they are only good for 48 hours so you're in trouble if you don't finish it in that time.

Guess going forward you'll just have to download some to your computer/Ipad/Tablet for in room viewing.

helen haywood

Interesting change!  Yes, there always used to be several free movies.  But we travel with our laptop and DVD case...

woldridge

We were on the Silhouette Dec.9- Dec. 21.  The first time I looked at the listings for free movies (first day on ship) there were only 3-4 movies listed.  But, after a few days I checked again and there were several movies listed, probably at least 15. Some were fairly recent, such as "Crazy Rich Asians."

You were lucky 🙂

Baron Barracuda

It's been a year since our last X cruise but they then offered ESPN Intl, a half dozen news stations, TNT, a movie channel called "Space" and I believe a cartoon channel.

Well, a cruise ship is a floating hotel and I don't know of many land hotels that show 'free' movies any longer. I like the suggestion of taking your video entertainment with you. That way you have the selection you want and you can save the fifteen dollars and have a glass of overprices wine whilst watching the movie of your choice. Or, have a glass of wine on the veranda and count the waves. 🙂 (smiling emoji)

phoenix_dream

All land hotels I stay at have free HBO and sometimes Showtime movies, plus a heck of a lot more channels than Celebrity ships!  I also like to relax at night in the cabin and I really wish there was something on the tv besides sports (mostly things more popular in Europe like soccer or rugby) and news channel after news channel.  They did add HGTV but that gets old pretty quick.  M class ships are the worst - at least S class has some free movies you can watch.  I don't know why the cruise lines are so against providing cabin entertainment on the TV.  Now that most people have drink packages, it actually saves them money to have people in their cabins watching the tube instead of out drinking.

On our recent Summit cruise to New England the television experience was the WORST I have ever had at sea after 25+ cruises. I know, I am on a cruise, do I really need to watch TV? Yes. Because my wife and I both caught horrible colds and just needed a day to be sick in our cabin. Wanted to take our minds off of how we felt by watching television. Good luck!

Nothing on at all. Barely got the map of where we were. When somethings would come on the reception was horrible and the selection even worse. HGTV that flickered in and out. Cooking Channel that repeated the same shows over and over again. Celebrity's television experience has gotten worse and worse over the years. They used to have some really old series they would run. That would have been better.

Now I totally get problems with satellite reception. Weather can screw that up and on this cruise we had some crazy weather. But couldn't they PLEASE put some movies, TV shows, anything on their server that we can access while at sea. The only option other than the aforementioned lousy programming were movies that were chargeable at $14.95 per viewing. Most of them were old. Something that I would find free on Netflix or Amazon Prime.

Last summer we did a quick HAL cruise to Alaska and their TV was AWESOME! Tons of free movies, the full catalog of BBC nature films and so much more. Incredible 4K televisions in every cabin. Makes X look sad in that department.

I have had people ask me why I didn't just stream Netflix or Amazon? Well besides only having Elite Plus internet minutes, in our aft cabin, the connectivity was HORRID! I ran a couple of speed tests and got barely .3 megabytes per second up (at home I get 50 MB up and down). And I didn't bring a lot of stuff to download because to be honest, we didn't expect to be sick.

In-room television is something that would cost X next to nothing (comparatively) to improve drastically. Supposedly all the televisions are fed by Macs. If that's the case, they should be able to stream TV in an instant.

Like

I totally agree with you.  I have been on Princess so many times and all their movies are free.  And a great selection too.

It's not like Celebrity is an "economy" cruise line.  Give me a break!  I didnt' mention that the reception was horrible.  And I think we got the same cooking channel running the same shows for the entire week.

When you have kids, you want the entire experience (that includes in-room movies to keep them quite at night).  And yes, we bought the internet package that never worked!!  Yup, we paid for that 🙂

But, to give them credit, the rest of the cruise was really great.  Except the room service - they never got it right.  The Manager sent me up some chocolate covered strawberries to make up for it though.

Good question. We stay in Marriott, for the most part. I seem to recall that most movies are on a pay per view system. But, we don't really watch TV as a source of entertainment. We used to watch the news, but it's now heavily tainted by some guy with bleached hair and orange skin so we have stopped watching news channels, as well. We sometimes have books with actual pages that need to be turned when read. Or maybe a story on a tablet. Or maybe just counting waves and sipping vino.

Since you don’t watch much television you probably never went past the hotel offering you their pay movies. I can tell you from experience that pretty much every Marriott has more than 50 free channels of movies and other entertainment.

While I share your sentiments about television news and while we realize there are some people who are not television watchers did you miss the original poster mentioning that he was trying to get his kids to sleep. Or that my wife and I were sicker than dogs and just trying to find something to distract us from our misery. Sometimes you just want to watch something and be distracted not have to hold up a Kindle or a book. And as much as I would love to be “just counting waves and sipping vino” with the cold medication I was taking that would not have been a good idea and sitting outside counting waves was out as well as we had to skip a port.

I didn't miss that. This is just conversation and I shared my personal experiences. Not being critical.

The bottom line is the OP is upset about having to pay for movies. I get that. Is that fair? Probably not, but it is business, whether fair or not. I have no idea what other cruise lines or individual ships are charging. Maybe some here does and would like to share. I suppose one could apply on board credit toward movies so there would by no cash outlay at the end of the cruise? Maybe read a story to the kids to get them to fall asleep?

Sorry you were sick and in bed. I had one of those days a few cruises back. Not good, at all.

Both of Celebrity's closest mass-market competitors -- Princess and HAL -- offer substantially more free movies and television shows (over and above whatever channels are received) than Celebrity apparently does.

I recently ran into this $14.99 movie charge on Azamara, but chalked it up to it being a premium line -- rather like some higher cost hotel chains charge an arm and a leg for internet access whereas more moderate chains offer it at no charge.  However, I'm surprised that Celebrity has the same charge.

Nicole Kidman Seemingly Acknowledges Ex-Husband Tom Cruise Who Gave the Actress Her First Major Hollywood Break in a 1990 Blockbuster

N icole Kidman and Tom Cruise were once the Hollywood “it” couple. They were married for 11 years after meeting on a movie set, but soon realized that their marriage was not going to last forever. They divorced in 2001.

It’s quite sad to see famous couples breaking up, but Kidman and Cruise remained good pals who share mutual respect and love for each other. The actress even acknowledged her ex-husband in a recent event.

Nicole Kidman Makes A Heartwarming Reference To Tom Cruise In Her Acceptance Speech

Nicole Kidman received a 49th AFI Life Achievement Award on Saturday as the actress and her colleagues relive the journey of her career in Hollywood. She gave a moving speech that chronicled the joys and the sorrows of being a celebrity as well as forging relationships with her costars.

“You won’t have a career, you’re too tall”: Tom Cruise’s Ex-Wife Nicole Kidman Was Bullied in Hollywood Because of Her Height

In an article posted by The Hollywood Reporter , the outlet remarked how Kidman gave a nudge to Tom Cruise .

“ In her speech, Kidman reflected on her journey to Hollywood stardom, which started in Australia and with her sleeping on friends’ floors and sofas while she tried to book jobs. She spoke about her love of actors and learning from them along the way, noting, ‘some of them you may never meet again and some of them you do meet again. Some of them you have incredible laughter and jokes with and you cry with; some of them you fall in love with, some of them you marry,’ seemingly referencing ex-husband Tom Cruise .”

Indeed, she and Cruise were very much infatuated with each other that they decided to marry the same year their first movie together came out. The Mission: Impossible actor was so smitten by Kidman when he first saw her at a private screening of the movie Dead Calm .

Of course, Cruise worked on his magic in order to partner up with Kidman in 1990’s Days of Thunder . A budding romance grew since then, and that was the beginning of their journey as Hollywood’s famous couple.

Even After Katie Holmes and Nicole Kidman Left Him, Tom Cruise Is Still a “Hopeless Romantic” Who Strongly Believes in Love at First Sight

It’s nice to hear that Kidman remembers the good times she had with her ex-lover even though she’s now married to country music singer Keith Urban . Kidman and Cruise share two children, Bella and Connor.

Nicole Kidman’s Shot To Hollywood Fame

Kidman may have met Cruise while filming Days of Thunder , but this was also the movie that gave her the biggest break of her career. Looking back on her 1990 movie, the Australian star told Yahoo Entertainment :

“ I just remember being amazed that I was in America, and suddenly I had this role in this huge Tom Cruise movie .”

“She wanted to do it herself”: Nicole Kidman Refused to Use Body Double for Violent S*x Scene With James Gunn’s Rumored Superman Actor That Left Her Bruised

The actress’ work on the said movie helped her secure more movie roles, including the ones that catapulted her to extreme fame, such as Moulin Rouge , The Hours , and Rabbit Hole . Since her divorce from Cruise, she had found her own path in Hollywood and even made her star shine brighter.

Days of Thunder is available to stream on Prime Video and Apple TV.

Chris Pine Says He Grew Up Idolizing Tom Cruise, Harrison Ford and Gary Oldman (Exclusive)

The actor also named Lee Marvin and Walter Brennan among some of his early influences

As a burgeoning actor, Chris Pine had his sights set high.

Speaking with PEOPLE on Wednesday, April 24, at the premiere of his directorial debut Poolman in Los Angeles, the 43-year-old named several actors who got their start in Hollywood before him who he looked up to when he was growing up.

"I remember being 8 years old and dressing up in a fedora and a three-piece suit and pretending to be a character in Bugsy Malone . Or taking a pencil and pretending I was Tom Cruise in Top Gun ," Pine says. "So all of the business appealed to me and all the characters."

"But certainly ... I guess I simultaneously wanted to be Harrison Ford and also wanted to be like Gary Oldman or Lee Marvin , or Walter Brennan," he adds.

Set in Los Angeles, Poolman follows pool attendee Darren Barrenman (Pine), "a native Los Angeleno who spends his days looking after the pool of the Tahitian Tiki apartment block and fighting to make his hometown a better place to live," according to a synopsis of the film, which Pine also co-wrote.

"When he is tasked by a femme fatale to uncover the truth behind a shady business deal, Darren enlists the help of his friends to take on a corrupt politician and a greedy land developer," the synopsis adds. "His investigation reveals a hidden truth about his beloved city and himself."

Pine recalled to PEOPLE at Wednesday's premiere how he "grew up in a specific kind of L.A. that was kind of on the Boulevard of Dreams and kind of on the Boulevard of Broken Dreams."

"I saw the highs and lows of the industry. And I grew up around people that were living the dream and people that desperately wanted to be in the dream," he says. "So it's no accident that everybody in this film, even the bad guy, was a musical-theater major that came out here to do a pilot."

"My girlfriend [in the movie] was once on Melrose Place and is now a Pilates instructor, and my best friend Jack Dennisoff, [played by] Danny DeVito , is a B-movie horror director that never really made it," Pine continues. "So this is really my tribute to that part of Los Angeles."

That doesn't mean the city doesn't have its downsides for him — in fact, he tells PEOPLE that what "frustrates" him about L.A. is "everything."

"The fact that we don't have above-ground public transportation, that the red cars were ripped out, that we don't really have a deep appreciation for some of the fabulous architecture that we have here, that we're building buildings right now that I feel like are built for practicality more than they are in the spirit of beauty," the Wonder Woman actor explains.

"That disappoints me, but it is my home," Pine adds.

Poolman hits theaters May 10.

Edmunds: 2024 Kia Niro versus 2024 Toyota Corolla Cross

Many car shoppers simply want a vehicle that’s practical, easy to drive and relatively inexpensive. High fuel economy is increasingly a popular desire as well. If this sounds like what you’re looking for in your next vehicle, consider the 2024 Kia Niro or the 2024 Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid .

The Kia Niro is fresh from a redesign last year. It’s one of Kia’s smaller crossover SUVs and it stands out with its distinctive styling, standard hybrid powertrain and plentiful technology features. Much of the same can also be said of Toyota’s Corolla Cross Hybrid. This fuel-sipping spinoff of the Corolla Cross is similarly fresh, introduced just last year. It’s also loaded with popular features and is a lot more practical than a regular Corolla sedan. Edmunds’ auto experts put these hybrid SUVs head-to-head to see which one offers more for your money.

ENGINES AND FUEL ECONOMY

Under the hood of the Niro is a four-cylinder hybrid electric powertrain that sends 139 horsepower to the front wheels. During testing, Edmunds found acceleration is pretty leisurely. The Niro is pleasantly punchy at city speeds but it rapidly runs out of steam on the highway. The trade-off is great fuel economy. Depending on the trim, its EPA-estimated combined average is a remarkable 49 to 53 mpg.

Motivating the Corolla Cross Hybrid is a 196-horsepower four-cylinder hybrid electric powertrain that sends power to all four wheels. That’s right, the Corolla Cross Hybrid comes standard with all-wheel drive. All-wheel drive is not available on the Niro. Its 42 mpg combined average trails the Niro’s, yet acceleration is stronger. Edmunds found the Corolla Cross Hybrid needed 7.9 seconds to sprint from zero to 60 mph — almost 2 seconds quicker than the Niro.

If great fuel economy is your top priority, the Niro wins. But Edmunds found the Corolla Cross Hybrid’s quicker acceleration and standard all-wheel drive to be worth the trade-off.

Winner: Corolla Cross Hybrid

FEATURES AND VALUE

Credit Kia and Toyota for packing in so many features into these budget-minded SUVs. In base format, they each come standard with keyless entry and ignition, an 8-inch infotainment touchscreen, and wireless connectivity for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration. Both also offer a robust set of driver assistance features including lane keeping assistance, blind-spot warning and adaptive cruise control.

There are a few aspects that help the Niro pull ahead. For one, it starts at $28,315, including destination fees. That’s about $1,200 less than the Toyota’s price of $29,570. Kia also offers top trim levels for the Niro that come with upscale features such as ventilated front seats and a premium sound system. You can’t get these on the Corolla Cross Hybrid.

The Niro is backed by a lengthy five-year/60,000-mile basic warranty paired with 10 years/100,000 miles of powertrain coverage. Toyota offers a more industry standard combo of three years/36,000 miles (basic) and five years/60,000 miles (powertrain), though it’s worth noting the Corolla Cross Hybrid has a two-year/25,000-mile free maintenance plan.

Winner: Niro

COMFORT AND UTILITY

Both of these SUVs are maneuverable in city driving and reasonably comfortable during highway jaunts. The Corolla Cross Hybrid rides more smoothly over bumps, but otherwise they’re pretty similar for all-around comfort. Cargo space is also similar. You’ll be able to fit a decent amount of stuff behind the rear seats or fold them down to load larger items.

The Niro does have one big advantage compared to the Toyota: rear legroom. Measuring in at 39.8 inches, the Niro has nearly 8 inches more than the rear confines of the Corolla Cross Hybrid. That extra space makes the Niro more comfortable for taller teens or adults sitting in back. Parents needing to install bulky child safety seats will appreciate it too.

EDMUNDS SAYS

The Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid is a solid and sensible choice. It goes about its business with a minimum of fuss and feels built to last. Yet the Niro has better fuel economy, added rear legroom and a more upscale interior. It’s sensible with a bit of pizzazz.
