Replacing the tires on your car is an unavoidable yet necessary expense. Where you buy your tires can make a big difference when it comes to pricing, quality and services.

In this article, I’ll take a close look at Walmart’s tire center: an affordable and convenient option for buying tires. I researched the process and pricing at Walmart’s tire center to get an idea of what you can expect as well as how it compares to other popular places to buy tires .

Walmart’s Tire Center: What You Need To Know

Walmart is a convenient place to find good prices on nearly anything, including tires . If your local Walmart has an auto care center, you’ll likely find great prices there on tires and installation as well as other automotive services. Plus, you can order your tires online.

In addition to great prices, you’ll also find a variety of brands. When I checked out the selection online at Walmart, I found tires from Goodyear, Cooper, BF Goodrich, Pirelli, Bridgestone, Continental, Michelin and more. 

Before you order your next set of tires, consider these five things about Walmart’s tire center:

Below, you’ll find detailed information about Walmart’s auto care center including how to shop for tires, how the prices compare to other tire centers, how to schedule your installation and how to maximize your savings. 

1. How To Buy Tires at Walmart

There are two ways customers can buy tires from Walmart: in-store or online.

If you’re looking to shop in-store, you can use the online store finder to locate the nearest Walmart with an auto care center . From there, an associate can help you find the right tires for your vehicle. 

You can also shop at Walmart. com . By shopping online, you’ll be able to browse to company’s full selection of tires whether you’re near an auto care center or not. If you purchase your tires online, you can order them for same-day pickup (where available). You can also have them shipped for free directly to your door or the Walmart store of your choice.

When you first visit Walmart’s online tire center , you’ll see the option to use the “Tire Finder” at the top of the page. For most of us, the tire finder tool will be the easiest way to find a selection of tires that will fit your car. To get started, input your car’s information and click”view results.”

From there, you can search by size or further narrow your results. You should be able to find the intended tire size for your vehicle in the owner’s manual, but when I used the tire finder, I saw only one option for tire size. However, you do need to know the year, make and model of your car.

Once you’ve entered your vehicle information, you’ll be able to browse the selection of tires that fit your car. You can use the filters on the left-hand side of the screen to narrow your search results by brand, price, tire season, rating, special offers and more. You can also sort your results by price, popularity, rating and other factors by using the “Sort by” feature at the top of the screen. 

Once you’ve found a selection of tires that fit, you can click on specific tires for additional information including pickup/shipping timelines, installation availability and product details.

After you’ve made your selection, you can add the tires to your online shopping cart and enter your billing and shipping information. If you plan on having your tires installed at a Walmart auto care center, you can have the tires sent there instead. You will need to call the center to schedule your installation.

2. How Much Are Tires at Walmart?

Compared to other stores, Walmart offers some of the lowest average prices on tires with a median per-tire price of $134 according to Consumer Reports . For my 2017 Toyota Camry, tire prices ranged from $60.00 to $233.21 in November 2023.

To get a better idea of how Walmart’s tire selection compares to other tire retailers, I looked up the prices of two specific popular tires at each store. Then, I checked out the range of prices and availability of tires for two popular vehicles. 

In the table below, you’ll see prices for a Bridgestone Turanza Quiettrack 215/55R17 tire that fits my 2017 Toyota Camry and for a Michelin Defender LTX M/S 20″ tire that fits the popular Ford-F150. Prices are accurate as of November 2023.

As you can see, Walmart offers some of the lowest average per-tire prices compared to Sam’s Club , Discount Tire Direct , BJ’s Tire Center and Costco .

In addition to great prices, Walmart says it offers price matching if you find a better deal on an identical item from a qualifying retailer. To see the full details and limitations, check out Walmart.com’s Price Match Policy online . To submit a price match request, contact Walmart Customer Care before placing your order. 

Finally, be sure to check out the “Special Offers” section on the left-hand side of the Walmart.com tire center webpage . There, you’ll find rebates, clearance items. gift card bundles and other ways to save money on tires.

3. How Much Does Walmart Charge To Install Tires?

If you purchase your tires from Walmart or Walmart.com , you can get your tires installed at a Walmart Auto Care Center for around $18 per tire. That means you’ll be looking at a total of $72 for basic installation on four tires. However, prices may vary slightly based on location.

If you need to have tires installed that you bought somewhere else, you can still get the same basic installation for an additional $11 per tire. That brings the total to $116 for four tires. And Walmart’s “basic installation” includes more than just installing the new tires.

$18 per tire if purchased at Walmart (additional $11 per tire if purchased elsewhere) :

• Tire mounting
• Valve stems/TPMS service pack
• Lifetime balance and rotation every 7,500 miles
• 50-mile lug re-torque

• Road hazard warranty: $10 per tire
• Lifetime balance & rotation: $15 per tire
• Valve stem/TPMS service pack installation: $3 per tire
• Flat tire repair (tubeless): $15 per tire
• Tire mounting (carry-in): $11 per tire
• Tire mounting (specialty): $11 per tire
• Rotation: $5 per tire
• Lug nut replacement: $3.50 per lug nut
• Reset tire pressure monitoring system sensors: free as needed

Remember that if you plan on purchasing your tires online and having them delivered to a Walmart Auto Care Center for installation, you’ll need to call the center separately and schedule a time to bring in your car.

4. Walmart Tires: Return Policy and Warranty Information

According to Walmart’s website , most tires that have never been installed or driven on can be returned to the Customer Service desk of any Walmart store that has a tire center.  

Unfortunately, Walmart stores that don’t have tire centers can’t accept returns, and you can’t return the tires by mail. Walmart also won’t accept returns on snow tires or any tires that have been used.

Walmart offers a road hazard warranty for $10 per tire. This price is included in the total for the Value Tire Installation Package, and the warranty is available only for tires purchased in-store or online at Walmart. The warranty covers unforeseen road hazards, flat repairs and free replacement of non-repairable tires within the first 25% of tread wear.

Note that the standard manufacturer’s warranty should be enough to cover your tires . In fact, Consumer Reports argues that tread-life warranties are next to useless and money expert Clark Howard never buys extended warranties. 

“My position on extended warranties remains the same always: I don’t like them, and I don’t buy them at any store.”

If you aren’t completely satisfied with the tires you’ve ordered, you’ll have 90 days from the date of purchase to return them . Of course, if you had the tires shipped directly to your home, you’ll have to make arrangements to get them to an eligible Walmart location.

Overall, Walmart is a great place to shop for tires both online and in-store. You’ll find a great selection of popular tire brands and some of the lowest average per-tire prices compared to other popular tire stores. And installation is cheaper at Walmart than nearly anywhere else.

Because most motorized and towable RVs are driven less than passenger vehicles, their tires tend to last between three and six years on average. The more you drive, the more frequently you’ll need to replace your tires. 

The tread wear is the metric to monitor over your tires’ lifespan. When that tread falls below a depth of 4/32”, it’s time to replace your RV tires. But even if your tires have plenty of tread left, keeping them for more than 8-10 years is not recommended. 

Most RV and travel trailer tires should be replaced every 10,000 to 15,000 miles. But each manufacturer recommends a service life for their tires, so it’s best to seek their advice on tire replacement intervals.  

RV tire covers can protect your tires from UV exposure, dry rot, and other wear and tear that can shorten your tire’s lifespan. Even if you aren’t driving your recreational vehicle a lot, leaving your tires exposed to the elements will decrease their serviceable life.

How to Change an RV Tire

Blowouts happen, so if you find yourself needing to swap a blown RV tire for a spare, you’ll need the following tools: 

• Your RV may or may not have one. They are less common on Class A RVs due to the weight of the vehicle and the dangers of changing a tire on the side of the road. 
• If you don’t, call Good Sam Roadside Assistance to get you back on the road.
• DO NOT USE your RV’s built-in hydraulic or stabilizing jacks to lift your RV. 
• A lug wrench or torque wrench
• Impact driver with the correct size socket for wheel lugs
• Wheel chocks
• Tire inflator or air compressor with the appropriate fittings

With those tools in hand and your RV parked in a safe location, follow these steps: 

• Retrieve your spare tire. 
• Place wheel chocks in front and back of tires you aren’t changing to keep your RV from moving. 
• Use your lug wrench to loosen all lug nuts holding the tire in place.
• Place the bottle jack under your RV’s frame.
• Extend the bottle jack until the tire is completely off the ground. I f the tire is blown, you need to extend it high enough for the inflated spare tire. 
• Use your impact driver and socket to remove wheel lugs. 
• Remove the blown tire and set it aside. 
• Center the spare tire on the lug threads.
• Replace wheel lugs by hand (at least get them started by hand to avoid cross-threading).
• Initially tighten lug nuts with the impact driver.
• Retract the bottle jack to lower the tire onto the ground. 
• Tighten lug nuts entirely with your torque wrench.  All manufacturers recommend lug nuts be tightened to a specific torque setting.
• Use your tire gauge to check the pressure in your spare tire. 
• If necessary, inflate your tire to the recommended PSI.
• Remove wheel chocks. 
• Store the blown tire safely until you find a tire or service center to acquire a new spare. 
• Store all your tire-changing tools. 

Driving your RV without a spare in tow isn’t recommended. If you’ve had to install a spare, you should replace the original tire as soon as possible before continuing on your RV road trip.

How to Change a Trailer Tire

This process is largely the same for travel trailers . But there are a few additional pointers to remember. Follow the same steps as above, with these safety tips in mind: 

• Ensure your trailer’s stability. Even if your trailer is hitched to your tow vehicle, you should place wheel chocks in front and back of the tire(s) you aren’t changing to prevent the trailer from shifting and potentially falling off your bottle jack. You may consider extending your trailer’s stabilizing jacks once your bottle jack is extended. This provides a backup to keep your trailer elevated if the bottle jack fails or slips out of place.
• Inspect the wheel hub after removing the old tire. This should be done for RV and trailer tires. Visually inspect the hub for cracking, buckling, or other signs of damage. If you notice any major signs of damage, contact roadside assistance before moving your RV. 
• Find a replacement spare. Don’t travel far without a spare tire for your travel trailer or fifth wheel . Tires for smaller trailers can be harder to come by, but contacting your nearest Camping World Service Center is a good place to start when looking for the best trailer tire providers in your area. 

How Much Are RV Tires?

Tire prices fluctuate depending on size, brand, weight capacity, and quality. But the average RV tire costs somewhere between $250 and $300.  

Tires for Class A RVs tend to be more expensive than car tires or tires for Class C RVs because they are larger and heavier. Owners of Class B RVs will usually pay less per tire because they require smaller and lighter tires, but your cost may be higher if you decide to invest in higher-quality tires made for off-roading. 

How Much Are Trailer Tires?

Most travel trailer tires are smaller than tires for motorized RVs. Their average cost is likely to fall between $100 and $200. But, of course, that cost can fluctuate depending on the exact brand, tire size, load range, tread pattern, and construction you’re looking for.

How to Identify RV and Trailer Tires

Trailer tires are usually identified by an ST or LT rating. ST stands for ‘special trailer tire,’ and LT stands for ‘light truck’ tires These ratings will be at the start of the tire’s label, such as ST 205/75 D14. Here’s a quick breakdown of the rest of that label: 

• 205 denotes the tire width measured in millimeters. 
• 75 states the tire’s height-to-width ratio (i.e. height = 75% of width in this case). 
• D stands for ‘diagonal’ but also denotes a bias ply tire (R would denote a radial tire). 
• 14 tells you the tire’s diameter in inches. 

Radial or Bias Ply Tires?

Many RV owners don’t know they have options regarding the types of tires for their RV or travel trailer . Radial tires are more common, but bias ply tires are a reasonable alternative for certain uses. Here are some quick definitions: 

• Radial tires are built with steel belts inside the tire running at a 90-degree angle to the tread center line. 
• Bias ply tires are constructed with nylon belts running at a 30 to 45 degree angle to the tread center line. 

The general consensus is that radial tires provide a smoother ride, less trailer bounce and sway, longer tread life, wider footprint, tougher overall construction, and the ability to run cooler. 

Bias ply tires are generally less expensive and offer stronger sidewall construction. They also have the advantage when it comes to carrying heavy loads, as they offer a uniform number of plies to support weight in both the tire’s tread and sidewall. 

The best tire type for your trailer is indicated on your trailer’s information label (D = bias ply, R = radial). Generally, radial tires are recommended for trailers used regularly for longer trips. Bias ply tires are recommended for tandem axle trailers used for shorter, less frequent trips.

What PSI Should My RV Tires Be?

RV tires have their maximum pressure stated on the tire’s sidewall. This maximum pressure should never be exceeded. That said, the RV manufacturer will usually state the recommended tire pressure for your RV, not necessarily the tire manufacturer. 

The RV manufacturer’s recommended tire pressure rating can be found on your vehicle information label or in your owner’s manual. But it’s important to recognize that this pressure rating is for cold tires (i.e., when your RV or travel trailer has been parked for at least three hours). 

Should Trailer Tires Be Inflated to Max PSI?

The dangers of over-inflating trailer tires include more difficulty braking and a higher likelihood of tire blowouts. Over-inflated tires also wear out quicker, don’t provide as much traction on wet roads, and can alter your fuel efficiency. 

To avoid over-inflating, fill your tires to their recommended pressure when they are cold. As the air temperature inside your tires increases, the pressure also increases.

What to Park RV Tires On

While RV tire covers reduce tire wear and tear, you can keep your tires healthy by parking on friendlier surfaces. Using leveling blocks or tiered tire ramps helps you level your RV right the first time and gets them up off unforgiving terrain.

Do Trailer Tires Need to be Balanced?

The standard for travel trailer ride quality differs slightly from passenger vehicles. Trailers and fifth wheels are designed to carry cargo and equipment instead of passengers.

That being said, regularly balancing your trailer’s tires can improve performance, increase your tire’s lifespan, and ensure the safety of your trailer and its cargo. Unbalanced tires can create damaging vibrations and premature wear. 

They will also heat up more rapidly, increasing the odds of a tire blowout. In the worst case, they can damage your axle bearing, damaging other nearby parts or allowing your wheel to come off when driving at high speeds. 

Most trailer manufacturers recommend service intervals for tire balancing, but the industry standard recommends balancing your travel trailer’s tires every 3,000 miles.

First, it’s almost always a good idea to replace the factory tires on any RV. This is because manufacturers tend to use very low-quality tires on motorhomes and trailers. These tires have a tendency to blow out easily, something you definitely don’t want to experience in your RV. 

2. Understand the reason for replacement

Besides replacing original tires, there are three reasons a tire might need to be replaced: age, wear, and damage.

If you’re replacing your tires because they are old and expired, that’s a good thing, as it means you did an excellent job caring for your tires. Or are you replacing your tires because they’re worn? As long as the wear is even, this is okay as well.

However, if you find yourself replacing your RV tires due to uneven wear or damage to the tires, you might need to change something up. Uneven wear is a sign that your motorhome is in need of an alignment. Meanwhile, if your tires are suffering from sun damage, you might want to consider covering your new set of wheels.

Radial vs Bias Tires

Radial tires are more durable and offer both better fuel economy and a better ride, but they are significantly more expensive. Bias tires have a shorter life span but also a smaller price tag; plus, they can handle heavier loads.

Weight rating

When it comes to buying RV tires, weight rating is incredibly important. Ensure the cumulative maximum load capacity (meaning, the tires’ weight capacities added together) meets or exceeds the total gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the RV. 

The type of terrain you plan to travel on matters as well. Keep this in mind and choose tires with the proper tread for your planned activities.

4. Learn the date of manufacture

Did you know tires expire? They do, and it’s important that you replace your tires before this happens. Generally speaking, tires should be replaced six years after the date they were made. Therefore, it only makes sense that you wouldn’t want to purchase a tire that was made more than a year ago. 

Check the date of manufacture on tires before you buy them to ensure they will last five years or more before needing to be replaced.

5. Don’t forget the spare

If you’re purchasing a new set of tires because of age, your spare likely needs to be replaced for the same reason. Be sure to lift that spare tire cover and look for damage (as well as a manufacture date) to see if you should be replacing the spare tire along with the rest.

6. Pay for the warranty

Generally speaking, tire warranties are worth paying for. This is especially true when it comes to RV tires, as they tend to be quite expensive. A good warranty will cover you for quite a while after your purchase, so you needn’t worry about getting a dud tire or accidentally running over a screw.

7. Know how to care for your new tires

Once you have a new set of tires installed, you will want to make sure to take good care of them. This will ensure the tires last as long as possible, saving you money and the hassle of shopping for new RV tires and having them installed.

Without the Tire & Lube center, a Walmart store cannot actually install or work on your tires. They can only sell tires for you to take and install elsewhere.

So it‘s critical to verify your local Walmart can provide tire installation before purchasing from them. Otherwise you‘ll have to take the tires somewhere else for mounting, which defeats the purpose!

You can check for tire installation services at your nearby stores using Walmart‘s store finder and selecting the "Tire and Lube" filter.

How Much Does Tire Installation at Walmart Cost?

Walmart offers competitively priced tire installation starting at $15 per tire. Here are the details:

For tires purchased at Walmart:

• Mounting/balancing: $15 per tire
• Lifetime balancing: +$10 per tire
• Tire disposal fee: +$2 per tire
• Lug nut replacement: +$2 per lug nut
• Road hazard warranty: +$10 per tire

For tires purchased elsewhere:

• Mounting/balancing: $25 per tire

So for a basic install of 4 new tires bought at Walmart, you would pay around $60 total.

With all the extras like lug nuts and hazard warranty, your 4-tire install cost could max out around $140.

Still, that falls way under what many independent tire shops charge for installation:

When investing in new tires, warranty protection provides important peace of mind. Here are the warranties included when you buy tires at Walmart:

Manufacturer‘s Warranty

• Covers defects in materials/workmanship
• Lasts 3 years or 36,000 miles usually

Walmart Road Hazard Warranty

• Adds protection from road damage
• 2 years or 24,000 miles
• $10 per tire

Keep in mind the road hazard plan only applies to tires bought and installed at Walmart.

Snow tires are also non-returnable, even when unused. So choose your winter treads wisely!

You have some flexibility to return or exchange new tires within 45 days as long as they have no vehicle wear and damage.

But again, snow tires are excluded so make absolutely sure before buying.

So should you have Walmart install your next set of tires?

If you have access to a Walmart Tire & Lube Express, you can likely save a good amount on high-quality tires, installation, and warranties.

Will Walmart Install Tires? (Yes! But Read This First)

One of the impressive things about Walmart is that you can get many services done for you when you get to one of its centers.

Not only does Walmart sell automobile products, some of its centers – Walmart Super Centers – have a dedicated “Auto Care” section where you can get some basic automotive maintenance and care services done for you, and that includes tire installation. But will Walmart install tires?

Yes, whether you buy the tires from them or not, Walmart will help you fix them in your car, however, at a fee.

Walmart Auto Care centers offer a number of basic automotive services at pretty affordable prices – much cheaper than what you may get at other car care workshops. This article explains how Walmart handles car tire installation.

Will Walmart Install Tires?

The simple answer is YES. Walmart can change your car tires with the new set you bought from their store or brought in from another store. But Walmart tire installation service is not done at all Walmart centers; it is done in Walmart Auto Care Centers that offer Tire & Lube Express services.

If the Walmart in your neighborhood does not have an Auto Care Center, there’s nothing to worry about – simply look up Walmart location with an Auto Care Center, then select the one closes to you and book for tire installation.

For example, when you place an order for new tires from the Walmart.com website – you can choose the closest Auto Care Center to your location and select it as the place you want the tires to be delivered, so you can have your car’s tires changed there, too.

This does not mean you cannot have your car tires changed elsewhere after you buy them from Walmart.

Also, tire installation at Walmart costs a fee, whether you bought the tires from the store or another store. The price is between $15 and $17 per tire if you bought from Walmart or between $25 and $27 per tire if you got the tires from another store.

This might not be the lowest price you can get for a tire change, but that’s pretty much cheaper than what most of Walmart’s Auto Car Center’s competitors charge.

Interestingly, Walmart tire installation is done in “packages.” The prices quoted earlier are for the “Basic Installation Package,” which includes tire installation, lifetime tire rotation and balance at 7,500 miles – plus other enticing perks. The second package costs more; it is called the “Value Tire Installation Package.”

The Value Tire Installation Package includes tire mounting, lug re-torquing at 50 miles, the valve stem/TPMS service pack, a lifetime tire rotation and balances at 7,500 miles, and Walmart’s Road Hazard Protection Warranty (costs $10 as a standalone service).

It is always advised to pick up Walmart’s warranty because it actually comes in handy on different occasions; for example, when your brakes fail or the newly installed tire(s) gets punctured; in any of these scenarios, the Walmart warranty allows you get the tire replaced or repaired for free.

Furthermore, asides from tire installation, Walmart does other tire care services, including checking and replacing the TPMS and checking different aspects of the wheel hub to ensure effective tire balance.

However, Walmart does not offer wheel alignment services. You may want to check out the entire services offered in Walmart’s Auto Care Centers.

Walmart Tire Services

While these may not look many, they are the tire services you can get done for you in a Walmart Auto Care Center.

Any other tire service outside of these ones is not done in Auto Care Centers, you will have to check another automotive maintenance workshop to have that done for you. Notwithstanding, generally, Walmart Auto Care Centers offer more than thirty (30) different car maintenance services.

How Long Does Walmart Tire Installation Take?

It depends on how many tires need to be changed on your car – if it’s just one tire, it won’t take up to 10 minutes, but if you’re changing all the tires at a go, it could take up to 30 minutes or more, depending on many factors, which include the wheel hub assembly pattern.

But then, these are mere estimations – your new tires could be completely installed in lesser or more minutes than hinted above. The amount of time you’d spend in a Walmart Auto Car Center for a tire change is seemingly the same as you’d spend when you visit other shops.

How Much Does Walmart Charge To Put On Tires And Balance Them?

When you pay for a Walmart tire change service, it comprises a number of services, which include mounting the tires and balancing them.

The basic installation package is sold at $15 per tire in most Walmart Auto Care Centers (for tires bought from Walmart) and $25 for tires you bring in from another retail vendor.

Do You Need An Alignment After Replacing the Tires?

A lot of car owners are cajoled to believe that doing wheel alignment is compulsory after installing a new set of tires. Well, that’s not true; while going for an alignment after installing new tires is recommendable, it is not compulsory.

If you had a professional do the tire change, there’s most likely no need for an alignment . But, if you changed the tires yourself, ensure to go for wheel alignment.

Does Walmart Do Free Tire Installation?

No. even if you bought the tire from the Auto Care Center, you’d be charged $10 or $11 to install each new tire.

So, if you’re changing the entire four tires in your car, that’s about $40 or $44 in total. Walmart does not offer free tire installation; you can only get discounts during any Walmart sales event.

With AAA predicting 37 million people will travel during the holiday weekend, hassle-free service will certainly be king of the road.

The retailer has rolled out a variety of improvements that make buying and installing tires easier than ever. Using Walmart.com or the Walmart app, customers can now search for tires that are a match for the year, make and model of their vehicle and book an appointment to get them installed — all from the comfort of their home. For customers who prefer the help of an Auto Care Center expert, we’ve also launched a new interactive shopping experience on Walmart.com called Walmart Tire Finder . The new experience is powered by eko, our partner in shoppable and customizable video development. It allows customers to virtually interact with Scott, a 25-year Walmart Auto Care Center expert, as he helps guide customers through the tire-buying process based on their weather, warranty and budget preferences.

“We know selecting tires can be complicated, so we’ve made the intimidating process easy,” said Jon Freshman, vice president of digital services at Walmart U.S. “We’re giving our customers convenient digital options that bring our auto care center expertise right to their fingertips, helping them make smart decisions from anywhere. • Find Tires: Enter the year, make and model to browse tires that fit any vehicle. Customers who prefer the help of an expert can use the Walmart Tire Finder experience on Walmart.com, where a Walmart Auto Care Center expert will guide them through the tire-buying process.
• Book an Appointment: Select “Pickup” at checkout to book an appointment to get the tires installed at a local Walmart Auto Care Center. Tire installations start as low as $15 a tire.
• Track the Service: Track the status of a vehicle while it’s being worked on using the auto care center in the Walmart app.
• Get Notified: Receive text updates when the service is complete.

Walmart For Mounting--Things I learned

I just received my order of Bighorns from Rocky Mountain ATV for $373 delivered and a $50 instant cash reward. I have a 2010 850 Touring EPS. I had heard that Walmart is the place to go for tire mounting. If you go to the website you can see the tire service prices. I seemed to remember reading in this forum that you could get all 4 tires mounted for $25. This seemed reasonable to me but when I looked it up on the website today the price was $2.50 per wheel. What a deal! So I pop the ATV on the Trailer and load the Bighorns on my Tundra and head off to Walmart. So far so good. I arrive and tell the man I want ATV tires mounted on my ATV. "I don't think we do that he says"--He asks another guy who says "yes we do". Whew !!! So he enters my data on his handheld gizmo and says that will be $22.50 before tax. I whip out the copied web page and he chokes--but swallows hard and gives me the "Discount". I can see it is hurting him awful bad. Then either my ignorance is revealed or they got revenge--you guys tell me which. They said "We won't mount them on the ATV' you have to bring in the rims off the ATV." What? I reply. "How am I going to do that?" "That is your problem"--Anyway I end up going home and jacking the ATV--blocking of course, doing first the rear then the front. Took two more trips to Wal-Mart to Mount the rear on my Rims--travel home mount them on the Bike, lower the jack, tighten, jack the front, remove the wheels, travel back to WM repeating the process. All done now--but did I get snookered or should I have known that ATV tire Mounting does not mean the same thing as it does with a car?  

That's the craziest thing I've ever heard ! If I woud have had a lug wrench I would have taken them off myself right there in the parking lot!  

Why would you have to make two separate trips? A separate trip for the front and one for the back?  

Yeah, that's how it works around here as well. You have to take the wheels off the ATV to get the cheapest price. Mounting them is your issue unless you want to pay more. Can't really complain when you get four tires mounted for 10 bucks!  

Yes, That is my take after the initial surprise. I'm not really a mechanic so I had to make do with a crummy car jack, some blocks and an old spinner lug wrench. But for $10 whoo hoo!! But I still think people in this forum should know what they mean by "Mount" .

It sounds reasonable for the price. Unfortunately with law-suits these days there is probably a liability reason that they can't do it for you. Typically when you take your car/truck in they can put it on a lift, something they probably can't do with your atv. Besides would you really want the guys at Wal-mart over/under tightening your lug nuts, most service shops I see use an impact wrench, with them doing the mounting you may have had stripped or busted wheel studs.  

yes it sounds like a liability thing, thats what i thought of right away. I have heard sams club will not mount any tire that is not the factory size tire of the vehicle it came on. Happened to my old man he was pissed so he loaded up the tires he bought from sams club and took them to sears to get them mounted what a deal huh!!!! Sorry to go off!!! Enjoy the new tires, i am still dragging my feet for my new ones.

You got the correct deal. I did it (and I posted that experience on here). I knew upfront what the deal was and for 2.50 per tire it is a DEAL. Also, got to talk to the guy that is going to do the work and be sure understands the correct mounting, inflation process. Too much pressure can ruin a good tire, right NOW.  

Right on Phil. They know cars much better than ATVs. You need to be proactive. They read the side walls and It said 33 pounds--TO SET THE BEAD. I had to insist on only seven pounds. I hope that is right. I also had to tell them to align the valve stem with the little marker circle that the BHs use. Also learned that on this forum.There was no inflation information with the tires so I just used what I heard here--which was slightly more than the five pounds I used on the OEM Bias ply. Is 7 okay?  

7 is fine. in the summer i usually run around 7-8 in the rears on the fields. right now they're down to 4 though for the winter.

No, you carry in the existing OEM tires mounted on your wheels and bring in the new unmounted tires. They take the old tires off and mount the BHs on the wheels and you take the new tire/wheels and old tires back home. BTW I just rode the new tires for a few minutes and I immediately noticed the improved ride of the radials. There is a lot of chatter about the "Best" ATV all-around tire. BH have been around for a good while and stay near the top of the recommended list while other new tires rise in popularity--but some soon fade. At least that is my impression. If you are into trails and comfort riding the BH will be fine along with a couple of other excellent choices.  

thanks for the review, from what i've read bighorns are one of the few GOOD all around cross trainers. I do not think you got screwed or whatever. I mean it's walmart common... and for $10, i would really like to hear someplace else that mounts tires for that cheap!  

The Walmart I went to started to make a fuss about the tires being a different size than stock also. I argued with them and they diid it tho, Dumb.....  

the walmart in east texas where im a service mgr charges 5.00 per mound on specialty tires.. so ur lucky they still got old prices there...  

They are not "old" prices. They are advertised on their web site. It's a pretty good bargaining tool. Just print up the ad, bring it in and when the tire folks argue, ask for a manager. Just went through that scenario - the manager would not argue and I got the tires mounted for 2.50 each.  

I finally had some time to get mine mounted today, so I called Walmart and they said they didn't mount ATV tires. I said your website says you do. He said they didn't do them. So I went to Discount Tire and they mounted them for $5.00 per tire. Took them 15 minutes.  

i think it depends on the store if they have the stuff to do it.. like at my store i cant do snow tires or stud them..  

That's exactly right Phil. You have to go to the store web site and print out a copy of their price list. If they have an auto service department and do tire service, you will find the $2.50 price on the site. It IS true that they will not mount the tired ON the ATV--that is the point of this whole thread. The $2.50 price is a "carry in" price. So when the manager says "we don't do ATVs he is partially right"--They only do AVT wheels off the bike.--Buy again the history of those of us who get this price is that we have to overcome resistance and denial on the part of WM employees. The $ 2.50 is a losing price so I understand their reluctance--but this is business. You can't advertise a come-on price and then waffle on those that take them up on it. Having said all this, if I could have had them mounted on the ATV at $5, where they do all the work, I would have done that in a heartbeat. This was the only option in my town.  

I printed the prices off of Wal-marts site and brought it with me to the local Discount Tire store as I had purchased the tires from Discount Tire Direct. Long story short they happily matched the price as I already had new valve stems in the wheels, and I was on my way in about 15 minutes. I was very pleased on a few levels. A) give a little money back to DT since they gave me a great deal on the tires. B) DT is only about 5 minutes from my house vs Wal-mart that is 20-25 minutes away. C) I didn't support Wal-mart, I despise this company and all they stand for, I have had multiple bad experiences dealing with them.  

I just looked atlake area the page lol wow im glad i stumbled across it so i can report it at work since its down loaded into out system from home office in AR.. lol gives me something to show lol... at our store we have thetools to lawn n garden atv etc since were near a lake area.. i would deftnly print n save for that deal....

Same here Fishy, I'm going to be paying like $50 to have my new tires put on at the dealer. I rather pay more that give wal mart my $$$$.  

Id rather do the work and remove the rims and put them back on, I wouldnt trust them to drive my atv most of them have no idea how to drive a stick shift car.
