Review: Mophie's 3-in-1 MagSafe Charger is Great for Travel

Mophie in January introduced the 3-in-1 MagSafe Travel Charger , an official MagSafe accessory that directly competes with Apple's ‌MagSafe‌ Duo. Unlike the ‌MagSafe‌ Duo, Mophie's Travel Charger can charge three devices at once rather than two, plus it comes with an included power adapter, USB-C cable, and carrying case.

When unfolded, it's just over three inches wide and 12 inches long, and when folded up, it's about an inch and a half thick and about three and a half inches wide. The carrying case that it goes into is about seven inches long and four and a half inches wide, so when in the case, it is a good bit larger. You can carry it without the case if you want, but the case is handy to have for the cable and the power adapter.

Bottom Line

If you travel a lot and hate dealing with cables, Mophie's 3-in-1 Travel Charger is convenient, and it's also the best portable ‌MagSafe‌ charger on the market. I much prefer it to Apple's own ‌MagSafe‌ Duo because it has an extra charging spot and comes with the charging cable and USB-C power adapter that I need to charge at full speed.

It's not the best looking charger, but it's perfectly serviceable and worked well in my testing. On the downside, it's expensive at $150, but it is priced competitively with other multi-device ‌MagSafe‌ charging solutions that are on the market and worth considering for those who have a need that it meets.

This really is an expensive solution to a problem that only exists because people create it for themselves because they just have to use wireless charging. A wall charger that fits multiple cables takes up less than a third in volume, which is what I would really care about when travelling. Stationary on a desk is a different story.

Modern travel involves a nest of cables and chargers coming along with you to keep your devices topped up during your trip, so the thought of a single charger and cable doing it all sounds like the stuff of dreams. Enter the Mophie 3-in-1 travel charger with MagSafe.

Despite its cumbersome name, for Apple fans, it can dramatically reduce your packing drama with everything you need fitting in the included felt travel bag with spaces for the also included 30W power adapter that Apple never gave you, the USB-C to USB-C cable, and of course, the diminutive tri-fold charger itself. What’s the catch? The $149 price tag. 

It’s not a bad value when you factor in what you are getting, but it’s hard not to have a little sticker shock. Read on and see if the convenience and build quality of the Mophie 3-in-1 travel charger with MagSafe can win you over.

Pricing is the toughest pill to swallow when considering the Mophie 3-in-1 travel charger with MagSafe — $149 seems steep. However, for that price, you are getting a device that wirelessly charges your iPhone , Apple Watch and AirPods , and includes a 30W USB-C PD wall adapter, a USB-C to USB-C cable, and a travel case to hold it all.

When you compare it to Apple’s own $130 MagSafe Duo, which only charges your Apple Watch and one other Apple device (and doesn’t come with a power adapter), Mophies’ option starts to sound more affordable. 

It would be great if it were less expensive, but relative to other options on the market, the Mophie 3-in-1 travel charger with MagSafe is reasonably priced. And what you are paying for is convenience and reliability as Mophie is using genuine Apple parts for the MagSafe charger for the iPhone and the Apple Watch, ensuring fast charging speeds.

I’ll get to the nifty tri-fold design of the 3-in-1 travel charger itself in a moment, but when you first open the package, you’re greeted with a couple of extra goodies. It feels like a treat in the modern era of minimal packaging that typically just contains your device and a cable.

The first of these is a felt travel pouch in Mophie’s traditional heathered grey that is held shut with an elastic band that snaps around a button. A small stitched faux leather patch with the Mophie logo is the only other detail on the simple pouch. Flipping it open reveals two dividers that create dedicated spots for the cable, power adapter and travel charger. It’s nothing fancy, but it has a nice clean look and makes it easy to keep track of everything you need to keep your Apple devices topped up on a trip.

We’ll look at the charging speeds delivered by the nondescript black 30W USB-C power adapter in the next section, but if you haven’t picked up a fast charger for your iPhone 12 or iPhone 13 yet, this is an added bonus for you as it can deliver full fast charging with their included USB-C to lightning cable. 

The final “bonus” item is the 1m (~3ft.) USB-C to USB-C cable. Again it’s nothing notable with just the Mophie logo on the ends to identify it. A braided cable would give it more of a premium feel, but I’ve yet to have a Mophie cable fail me, so despite the basic look, it should hold up well.

Now for the main event; the 3-in-1 travel charger with MagSafe is remarkably small on its own, roughly 3.1 x 3.1 x 0.9 inches. Mophie’s aesthetic is consistent with a heathered grey finish to the fabric exterior, although it’s slightly lighter than the travel case — and has the dimpled texture common to fabric-wrapped devices. If you’re already a Mophie fan, you’re likely familiar with the understated look. It would be nice to have at least one colorful option available, but that’s just not in the cards with Mophie.

The tri-fold charger is held shut with magnets and you pop it open by pulling on the faux leather tab with the Mophie logo. Unfurled, it’s 11.7 x 3.1 x 0.5 inches, so it should easily fit on even the smallest of bedside tables. The inside is a bit of a disappointment compared to that stylish exterior with plain-black plastic dominating most of it, including the indented charger for your AirPods. The MagSafe charger for the iPhone in the middle and the magnetic charger for the Apple Watch are the traditional white. It all seems durable enough, and it doesn’t feel like terrible cheap plastic, but laid out this way, it doesn’t look like a $150 product either.

Once you get your devices on it, things look up; the official Apple MagSafe charger will grab ahold of your iPhone and make sure it doesn’t slip off. The Apple Watch charger flips up for Nightstand Mode, allowing you to easily glance at the time. While the assumption is that you will have AirPods or AirPods Pro , the final spot is a basic Qi charger, so it will work with almost any wireless earbuds that support wireless charging. 

While things get a little utilitarian on the inside, overall I like the design of the Mophie 3-in-1 travel charger. It folds down to an easily packable size and it looks good when you’re traveling with it. Once all of your devices are on it, just go ahead and flip it shut when you aren’t using it and you’ll never really face that plastic interior.

As I already mentioned, Mophie is using genuine Apple parts for the MagSafe charger and the Apple Watch charger, this is also why they are white rather than black like the rest of the interior. The upside of this is that you get the full 15W fast wireless charging for your iPhone (12W for iPhone 12 mini and iPhone 13 mini) instead of the 10W many non-Apple Qi chargers deliver. 

The Apple Watch and AirPods charging is limited to 5W, but given the smaller batteries in those devices, it still tops them up pretty quickly.

All three devices are able to charge simultaneously, so you just need to plug in the 30W adapter to the USB-C port that is housed in the section for the Apple Watch charger and you are all set. 

Bottom line 

While there are more affordable 3-in-1 wireless chargers for use in your home, I haven’t seen anything that challenges the Mophie 3-in-1 travel charger with MagSafe when it comes to charging all of your mobile Apple devices on a trip. The $149 price tag is justified with its durable build, stylish exterior, and most importantly, pares down your effects to a  single charger and cable when you pack.

If you are all in on the Apple mobile ecosystem with an iPhone, Apple Watch and AirPods, this is the best solution out there right now to keep them all charged up when you travel.

Though I haven't traveled since last summer, I know that I prefer to consolidate what I carry when traveling. After all, it is a hassle to keep track of everything and if you can have more multipurpose products, the better. I actually have a packing cube stowed away in my luggage that already has my spare power adapters, Lightning cable, Apple Watch charger, and a Nintendo Switch USB-C adapter and cable so that I don't need to do that before packing for a trip. But even still, that's several different loose items — what if I could reduce a few of those into a single product?

Enter the mophie 3-in-1 Travel Charger with MagSafe. This appears to be mophie's own version of Apple's MagSafe Duo Charger but with one more charging area for your AirPods. It even one-ups Apple's charger in other ways, like including a power adapter, cable, and a carrying case.

The mophie 3-in-1 Travel Charger with MagSafe is available directly from mophie at Zagg and you can also find it at the Apple Store, either in-person or online. It only comes in one color, which is black. It retails for $150.

The mophie 3-in-1 Travel Charger with MagSafe is pretty much the travel charger that Apple should have come up with. Both the charger and carrying case that it comes in are wrapped up in stylish, premium fabric. The case feels like a felt wool material, while the charger itself is more of a cloth fabric with what feels like a canvas finish, which adds a bit of no-slip grip to it to prevent it from sliding around. The interior lining of the charger is a soft-touch material that gives it a premium aesthetic. On the case, you have a large button with an elastic cord closure and there are dividers to keep the charging cable, power adapter, and charger separated.

This is the travel charger that Apple should have made.

Since this is a 3-in-1 charger, it folds up neatly into a compact little square, kind of like a trifold wallet. It even has a magnetic closure on the end with the AirPods charger to make sure it stays folded up when not in use. The cable plugs into the port on the Apple Watch charger section and it will power up all three charging areas.

Since the mophie 3-in-1 Travel Charger with MagSafe has MFi certification from Apple, it actually charges your iPhone 12 or iPhone 13 with 15W output through MagSafe. This gives the product an advantage over other magnetic wireless chargers because without the actual MFi certification, maximum output is halved at 7.5W. If you have an older iPhone without MagSafe , the mophie charger still works as a wireless charging pad.

Since it's MFi certified, you get 15W fast charging for iPhone.

While mophie does not state the exact charging speed for your favorite Apple Watch or AirPods , it feels like it matches up closely with Apple's original chargers. Unfortunately, if you are using an Apple Watch Series 7 , then the mophie 3-in-1 Travel Charger with MagSafe does not fast charge it — this is a regular Apple Watch charging puck designed for Apple Watch Series 6 and older. The Apple Watch charging puck in the mophie 3-in-1 Travel Charger with MagSafe is magnetic too, so your favorite Apple Watch should stay securely in place while charging. The puck also flips out to charge your watch at an angle, making it perfect for Nightstand Mode.

Though it's designed specifically for Apple devices, the spot for AirPods does charge other wireless earbuds, as long as it fits in the grooved area. If your charging case is larger than that, it may not work.

As much as I love the mophie 3-in-1 Travel Charger with MagSafe, it's not perfect. For one, each spot is only for its designated device. So if you wanted to use this travel charger for charging two iPhones, that won't be possible. Each spot will only work for the device it was made for, so that's only one Apple Watch, one iPhone, and one pair of AirPods.

Also, mophie claims that the charger will only work with Apple devices but I was able to use the AirPods spot to charge my Anker Soundcore Liberty 3 Pro earbuds. And since you could technically use the iPhone spot to wirelessly charge an iPhone without MagSafe, I don't see why it wouldn't work for other smartphones. Of course, the mileage may vary here, but I do not have a non-Apple smartphone to test this part out.

Each charging spot is only for the designated device.

Lastly, the mophie 3-in-1 Travel Charger with MagSafe is a bit pricey at $150. However, if you travel frequently, then this product is worth it just for the convenience. It's three chargers in one and mophie gives you the charging cable and adapter, and everything is packed neatly into a nice carrying case. It's about $20 more than Apple's MagSafe Duo Charger but you get one more charging spot, along with the carrying case and a — gasp — power adapter. If you were ever considering the MagSafe Duo, it would be better to pick this one up instead.

I've already mentioned it a few times, but the very obvious competitor here is Apple's MagSafe Duo Charger. Both of these are chargers that fold up for convenience when traveling, but Apple's is expensive, only has two charging spots for iPhone and Apple Watch, and doesn't come with a power adapter or carrying case.

Another great choice for a 3-in-1 MagSafe charger is the Belkin BoostCharge Pro 3-in-1 . This charger acts as a stand for your MagSafe iPhone 12 or iPhone 13 and Apple Watch and has a spot to top off your AirPods. It also has up to 15W output speeds for your iPhone. However, it's definitely not as travel-friendly as the mophie. But if you just want something to use at home, then I highly recommend the Belkin BoostCharge Pro 3-in-1.

You should buy this if ...

If you're a frequent traveler who is all-in on the Apple ecosystem with the best Apple Watch, iPhone, and AirPods, then the mophie 3-in-1 Travel Charger with MagSafe is perfect for you. The charger itself is incredibly small and compact since it folds up like a trifold wallet and it even comes with a convenient carrying case that also fits the power adapter and charging cable inside. Since it's officially MFi certified, you'll get 15W charging speeds with MagSafe, like the official Apple MagSafe Charger . And the Apple Watch charging puck flips out, allowing you to use Nightstand Mode if desired.

However, there's no denying that this is an expensive travel charger at $150. It's also not the best option if you don't have all three devices that it's charged for, which are the Apple Watch, iPhone, and AirPods. If you only have the Watch and iPhone, then you could save some dough and just pick up Apple's MagSafe Duo instead. Or, if you just have the iPhone 12 or iPhone 13 and some AirPods, there are plenty of MagSafe charging stands with a spot for earbuds. But again, if you like convenience and travel often, it's honestly hard to beat the mophie 3-in-1 Travel Charger with MagSafe.

Bottom line: Charge your Apple Watch, iPhone, and AirPods with this compact travel charger. It even comes in a convenient carrying case with a power adapter and charging cable.

Roll out the mophie 3-in-1 Travel Charger with MagSafe and it’s ready to juice up your iPhone, Apple Watch and AirPods. Just drop the devices on their appropriate wireless charging mat. And, to make it easier to take on the road, the accessory comes with a carrying case.

I used the original 2022 model, and mophie introduced a new version in late 2023. I retested the multidevice travel charger to see how quickly it wirelessly powers up a variety of Apple products and how easy it is to carry around. Here are my updated results.

I rarely leave the house without an iPhone, Apple Watch and AirPods. And I certainly wouldn’t go on vacation without them. That makes a way to recharge each of them while I’m on the road a necessity.

I can throw a couple of cables and wall power adapters in my bag, but I always end up wanting to everything at the same time so the collection of cables and chargers gets bulky, and they clutter up my luggage.

The mophie 3-in-1 Travel Charger with MagSafe is an all-in-one solution. It’s a mat with a single USB-C cable and adapter that charges three Apple devices at the same time. And it can handle your MacBook and iPad in a pinch.

With the release of a new 2023 model, I retested the latest version. The small changes in appearance are noted below. For those who already own the 2022 version, the only functional change in the refresh is the addition of Apple Watch fast charging.

The mophie 3-in-1 Travel Charger with MagSafe starts out as a 3.1-inch by 3.3-inch by 1.0-inch rolled-up package that’s 0.4 pounds. This is held magnetically closed.

Unroll the device to expose the three charging mats: one for AirPods, one for iPhone and the third for Apple Watch.

The exterior of the charger is fabric in a professional-looking dark grey. The interior is more utilitarian: plastic charging mats on a black surface. It’s not something you’ll want permanently on your desk or nightstand, though it’s fine for a business trip or vacation.

The center of mophie’s 3-in-1 Travel Charger is an iPhone wireless charging mat with MagSafe. An iPhone 12, 13, 14 or 15 will cling to this magnetically and charge at up to 15W. Many rival chargers top out at 7.5W.

Any iPhone or Android that supports wireless charging can also use this mat. They won’t get the advantages of MagSafe , though.

I did real-world testing with my iPhone 15, and the charger was able to raise the handset’s battery level 19% in half an hour, and 37% in a full hour. That’s slower than other MagSafe-compatible chargers I’ve tested, and about the same speed as Apple’s own version.

On the right side of mophie’s travel charger is the Apple Watch charging mat. The wearable clings to this magnetically, and the mat is on a hinge so you can tilt it up. That makes the Watch screen easily viewable at night.

In my real-world test, the mat raised the battery level on the Apple Watch Series 3 by 28% in half an hour. That’s the standard charging rate for the wearable. If I had a new model of the wearable, the accessory would be able to fast charge it.

The third major component of the Mophie 3-in-1 Travel Charger with MagSafe is a slightly concave mat designed to hold a Wireless Charging Case for AirPods. The mat provides the standard 5W of power.

The iPhone/Apple Watch/AirPods charger comes with a 30W USB-C PD wall adapter. That’s enough juice to power all three wireless charging mats simultaneously. I tested this to be sure.

A 39-inch USB-C to USB-C cable is also included. It’s long enough to teach from a wall socket to a nightstand.

Or you can use the wall charger and USB-C cable for your Mac or iPad instead. USB-C is USB-C.

One of my favorite features of the mophie 3-in-1 Travel Charger with MagSafe is its carrying case (shown above). The new 2023 version is a dark-gray felted material and is held closed with a zipper. It is made with up to 50% recycled plastic bottles.

There’s enough room inside for the multidevice charger, the wall adapter and the cable. There’s even a discreet AirTag pocket. This is a convenient way to keep all the pieces of the accessory together when you’re traveling.

Getting to a destination and realizing you’ve forgotten the cable(s) you need to charge your devices is a bad feeling. I recommend anyone who travels regularly keep what you need permanently packed in your suitcase. A multidevice charger like mophie’s makes that easy. Drop the convenient carrying case in your bag and it’ll be waiting.

I like everything about the product… as long as you need all three types of chargers. It’s a bit bulky if you plan to only use two.

Should you buy the Mophie 3-in-1 Travel Charger with MagSafe?

Within the realm of tech, there are few topics I lament more than the dismal battery specs that haunt the Apple Watch . Eight generations in, Apple has yet to surpass its 18-hour claim (which, fortunately, is really more like 24 hours in hand). For this reason, a charging routine is crucial to getting the most out of your wearable, and that requires a reliable charger .

The Mophie 3-in-1 Travel Charger aims to alleviate Apple Watch charging woes, plus do a little bit more. The pad’s multi-device design can power up your watch, iPhone, and AirPods all at once. It features proprietary Apple charging modules to offer fast wireless charging up to 15W and compatibility with all MagSafe-enabled iPhones. In short, it can turn any surface in striking distance of an outlet into an instant power hub. It even comes with a 30W USB-C wall adapter.

All that said, the Mophie 3-in-1 Travel Charger is not cheap. I mention this early because the follow-up is that it’s also not necessary for everyone. This is not the best-looking multi-device charger nor the most powerful one in terms of charging speeds. What you pay for (and what I can confirm you do get) is a very convenient travel companion.

Unlike heavier, platform-style charging pads, the Mophie 3-in-1 Travel Charger is thin, lightweight, and foldable. When you’re done charging your devices, you can trifold the pad into a neat, roughly 3.5-inch square. In just one week, it joined me while house-sitting, working remotely at a coffee shop, and waiting thirty minutes to be called into a doctor’s office. It also made the rounds plugging into every feasible reading corner in my house. The charger’s portability is extremely convenient. While I wasn’t booked for any trips during my Mophie 3-in-1 Travel Charger with MagSafe review period, it easily earned a future spot in my carry-on.

Further streamlining travel, the device ships with a felt carrying case with dedicated slots for the charging pad, one-meter cable, and power adapter. The case is made from heathered gray felt with a loop and button closure. At nearly seven inches long, the carrying case is bulky but it’s still light and easily fit into my backpack. I considered ditching the case on one outing to save space, but the fact that it corrals the charger’s cable is worth the real estate. Unfortunately, the charger doesn’t include any form of cable management.

Like some of its competitors, the Mophie charger does boast an adjustable Apple Watch station. You can lay your watch flat or charge it upright to utilize nightstand mode. This is a nice detail, especially considering you may not have a visible bedside clock while traveling.

Unfortunately, the charging puck is a standard Apple Watch charger rather than a fast charging module. My Apple Watch Series 8 took two hours and forty minutes to reach a full charge, which is less than ideal in an on-the-go scenario. My Apple Watch Ultra took well over three hours. If you are charging overnight, these specs might not be as inconvenient, but then you miss out on sleep tracking.

If you opt to charge by daylight, you’ll likely also notice the relatively cheap look of the interior of the charging pad. Folded up, the travel charger displays a refined gray fabric. A hidden magnet keeps the pad in its pleated yoga-like configuration. Unfolded, the charger loses its elegance and you’re left with a far less elevated plastic. Sprawled out the charger looks economical and even a little sloppy. This isn’t a deal breaker if you’re strictly after a travel accessory, but I wouldn’t personally make this my staple platform at home. The overall impression is not nearly as neat as other options.

What are the best Mophie 3-in-1 Travel Charger alternatives?

With the popularity of certain fruit-forward tech products, it should be no surprise that Mophie isn’t the only name in the Apple charging game. These alternatives give the Mophie 3-in-1 travel charger plenty of competition.

• Belkin BoostCharge Pro 3-in-1 wireless charging pad  ( $139 at Amazon ): Though less ideal for travel, the Belkin 3-in-1 charging pad offers a more aesthetically pleasing charging hub with MagSafe and fast charging capabilities for the Apple Watch.
• Belkin BoostCharge Pro Portable charger  ( $59 at Amazon ): Belkin’s portable charger for the Apple Watch won’t help your iPhone and AirPods’ battery life, but it does offer fast charging, cable management, a travel-friendly form factor, and a much lower price point.
• Anker 3-in-1 cube with MagSafe ( $149.99 ): The Anker cube features a unique form factor that’s also compact like Mophie’s design, but allows users to charge an iPhone at a convenient viewing angle.

A Foldable Design Full of Magnets

I love a tidy, well-organized tech pouch with the essential cables and dongles I need when I travel. Despite my irregular traveling schedule, I’ve spent a lot of time getting that pouch to be as small as possible. That’s why I glammed onto Apple’s 2-in-1 MagSafe Duo pretty soon after it was released at the end of 2020. It was a vibe.

Unfortunately, Apple’s solution uses a Lightning cable and doesn’t fast-charge an Apple Watch, despite charging an iPhone at 15W. The Duo has been discontinued and was getting long in the tooth even before that. That’s why this 3-in-1 Travel Charger from Mophie is tempting.

Mophie’s travel charger is thicker than the MagSafe Duo but is more modern in every other case. It will fast charge an Apple Watch—the (2023) distinction—and uses a USB-C port for power. Its MagSafe charger accommodates iPhone camera bumps, for another thing.

At a superficial level, Mophie’s charger is compact enough and doesn’t have any significant flaws. But in use, there are several things to nitpick.

For example, the exterior fabric of the Mophie Travel Charger is soft to the touch, which is nice, but also attracts debris. After laying it down on a seemingly clean nightstand, I noticed pieces of dust stuck to it when I rolled it back up. It wasn’t super easy to brush clean, either.

I could imagine setting the charger down on a hotel nightstand and worse items than dust being attached to the back of it. I wonder about the long-term viability of the fabric backing material.

When folded, the charger stays put with strategically placed magnets. It’s how these types of products roll. For detail-oriented people, be aware that the little end flap sticks up and flops around. I couldn’t get it to lay flat. It didn’t impair functionality, but it somehow drew my attention every time I looked at the product, which I found annoying.

Does the Mophie 3-in-1 Travel Charger Work Well?

The point of this device is for travel. It’s right there in the name. So it’s nice that the charger comes with a small pouch it tucks into, along with the USB-C cable and 30W power adapter. There’s even room for an AirTag and an extra cable or two, so if you’re a minimalist, this Mophie pouch could be the only bag of accessories you might need. I’m thinking of my wife here, who only brings a watch charger, Lightning cable, and a two-port power adapter.

For me, however, the charger's case is just a little too small to pack all the other items into. The pouch is also too big to fit in the Aer Slim Pouch I use for my cables and adapter. That’s fine because I also didn’t care for the felt-like material the Mophie case is made out of. It seems destined to be destroyed by some medium to heavy travel eventually.

The Mophie 3-in-1 Travel Charger itself did fit into my Aer case just fine and was able to take the place of the MagSafe Duo without skipping a beat.

The three charging spots are only meant to lay flat on a table. I did find that it could be bent and propped up in a way that could display StandBy mode if you really want it.

My biggest gripe with the unit is that it’s a little too much in most ways. What I mean is that the Qi spot, meant for AirPods, went unused most of the time. A third of the surface area could have been eliminated. My best guess is that the capability was only there to differentiate from Apple’s official travel charger. If the Qi spot wasn't there, the unit could also have been less expensive, presumably.

If you need all three spots at once, they work great. I’m just not sure all three are really critical to most people’s needs, though.

Price and Availability

The Mophie 3-in-1 Travel Charger (2023) is available from Apple directly, among its other retail locations.

A previous version of this charger had intermittent charging problems in June 2023, which needed to be resolved with a firmware update kit from the company. That appears to have fixed the problem for existing owners, but I would be wary of purchasing an older version of this product.

I didn’t notice any charging issues, but any intermittent issues will be hard to detect without prolonged use.

Should You Buy Mophie 3-in-1 Travel Charger (2023)?

I like the form factor here for a travel charger. The Mophie 3-in-1 Travel Charger is relatively compact for a backpack or accessory pouch. It takes the problem of too many unwieldy cables and adapters and melds them together.

The solution, however, is an expensive one. No name-brand solutions on Amazon solve this same issue for well under $100. Apple’s solution retailed for $129 when new. Mophie’s $149 price tag pushes the envelope for how much value this product ultimately delivers.

For anyone on the road frequently, I do think it will be a time saver and eliminate charging-related headaches. For someone only making occasional trips, cheaper options are probably worth considering first.

Mophie made the ultimate 3-in-1 travel charger for Apple devices

The 3-in-1 MagSafe compatible charger juices up an iPhone, Apple Watch, and AirPods all at once. And it folds up for travel.

Here’s another excuse to stay firmly within Apple’s ecosystem. Mophie just released its 3-in-1 MagSafe compatible travel charger for those of us who are already completely committed to our Apple devices. As the name implies, the charger has dedicated spots for charging your iPhone , Apple Watch , and AirPods at the same time. The design feels a lot like Apple’s own MagSafe Duo charger that was seen as too expensive, but the Mophie charger adds an extra slot for even more wireless charging.

Like the MagSafe Duo, the best part of the Mophie charger is that you can fold it up into a small square. Even better though, you can pack Mophie’s new charger and everything it comes with into its carrying case. The compact design was obviously tailored for those of us who travel a lot, but even if you’re not traveling, the foldable design lets you tuck this thing away to cut down on desk clutter.

Apple’s AirPower charging mat may be long dead , but foldable chargers like this Mophie one are good substitutes. It’s baffling Apple hasn’t released an updated MagSafe Duo with three charging pads and an updated puck to support the Apple Watch Series 7 ’s faster charging.

MFi certification — The Mophie charger is an officially certified third-party MagSafe accessory and was built with the official MagSafe charging puck from Apple. Since it has the Apple MFi certification, the Mophie charger can offer up to 15W of wireless charging power for your iPhone, whereas competitors without MagSafe compatibility usually top out at 7.5W.

Mophie has designed other 3-in-1 wireless chargers in the past, but it’s a first for something this travel-friendly. Previously, the company released its 3-in-1 wireless MagSafe compatible stand charger that was better suited to be plopped down somewhere that’s a designated charging spot. Mophie even put out a 3-in-1 design that didn’t offer MagSafe compatibility and could only offer 7.5W of wireless charging.

Mophie isn’t the only third-party vendor offering these wireless charging pads either. Belkin recently released its own 3-in-1 charger that also has MagSafe compatibility. But like Mophie’s earlier chargers, it’s just not as portable as this latest travel charger.

Available through Apple — Mophie’s 3-in-1 travel charger will cost $149.95 and will come with a detachable USB-C cable and a 30W wall adapter, all of which can be stored within the carrying case. Currently, you can only preorder the new Mophie charger through the Apple Store website , which expects deliveries to start in mid-February. Mophie is also expected to list the 3-in-1 charger on its own website in the coming weeks.

I’ve been able to charge my iPhone 15 Pro Max , Apple Watch Ultra and AirPods Pro 2 all at the same time and easily fold away the charger when I need to move locations. It comes with a nice, eco-friendly fabric case so I can quickly pack up the lightweight wireless charger as well as its included USB-C cable and charging brick. In addition to the pouch in black, there’s a new ‘Cherry Blossom Festival’ mophie 3-in-1 travel charger design on sale, giving you one more option in 2024.

Its MagSafe charging pad has a strong magnetic cling to it so my iPhone feels secure, and the Apple Watch charging puck can turn 90° to enable Night Stand mode. I tested it on my Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra , Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Google Pixel 8 Pro as well as my Sony WF-1000XM5 earbuds, and all of those charged too.

At an MSRP of $150, this triple-threat Qi-enabled charger is only $20 more than Apple’s MagSafe Duo Charger and can charge three devices instead of just two. Moreover, the latest version of this 3-in-1 charger, launched in late 2023, can juice up newer Apple Watch models at full speed, beating Apple’s own Duo charger.

There are a lot of cheap 3-in-1 chargers on Amazon right now that I’ve also tested, but buyer beware: they tend to offer slower charging speeds as you plop down more devices and can even stop working altogether just after your warranty expires. Trust me, I’ve experienced that firsthand. This is the one to go with as of early 2024.

Not only does it eliminate the need for three different cables (you only need one USB-C to plug in this tri-fold charging pad), but it charges three devices at full speed. That means up to 15W for an iPhone and 7.5W for the Apple Watch and AirPods. You can buy a seemingly similar 3-in-1 charging pad for as low as $28 (good luck), but the speeds and reliability greatly diminish.

⌚ Fast Charge Apple Watch. When Apple launched its Watch 7, it dramatically improved charging speeds by 33%. But most charging pads out there don’t support this faster speed – including Apple’s own MagSafe Duo. What I’ve noticed is that a lot of knock-offs will advertise 15W charging, duping consumers into thinking that the Apple Watch also charges quickly. Caution: that 15W is just for the iPhone. Among travel chargers, mophie’s 3-in-1 is the only charger that has lived up to the hype.

🪶 Lightweight foldable design. I love the quick charge-and-stow design of this sleek foldable travel charger. It's made of durable plastic on one side (surrounding the charging pads) and textured fabric on the other. Unfurled, I’ve been able to use it on an airplane (at least when my seat is upgraded) and always have it in my hotel room. And when I am truly on the go, I switch over to a 20,000mAh power bank, as seen in my mophie powerstation review . The combo has me covered when traveling.

🛅 A case that actually works. I’m usually anti-case-within-a-case when it comes to packing. They tend to take up more room than it’s worth, so I’m one to throw my stuff in my backpack. But mophie’s minimalistic fabric case is so well designed with space for just the essentials that I feel like it keeps me organized more than it takes up extra room. The latest 2023 version of this travel charger even has space for an Apple AirTag and extra cable or – in my case – an international converter.

🔌 Beats cables in one key way. I have a silly habit of checking my iPhone before I go to bed at night – multiple times. If it’s plugged in, I tend to unplug it at some point, especially when I’m in a hotel room and don’t have enough reach. The next day, I’m without a full charge (“Ugh! I didn’t plug it back in!”). With wireless charging, I don’t have that problem. I can pick up and put down my phone as many times as I’d like.

🤼 Better than MagSafe Duo. I had been waiting for Apple’s MagSafe Duo to be updated ever since the Apple Watch 7 launched. I refused to buy it since it has slower Apple Watch charging speeds, though I’ve been tempted when it’s on sale. Now I don’t need to wait as I’m fully content with the mophie 3-in-1 Travel Charger instead, and able to charge three devices at once instead of just two.

⌚ Apple Watch Nightstand mode. The watch charging puck stands up 90°, which enables Apple’s Night Stand mode. But you can also leave the watch flat. Both of the orientations feel secure, but when I used my titanium Apple Watch Ultra with the Milanese Loop it sometimes wanted to slip away from the charger, and laying the watch flat wasn’t an option with this band. So I just had to be mindful of that.

🪢 The USB-C port could be better placed. What I mean by this is the USB-C port for this charger is located under the Apple Watch puck. It’s fine, but the Apple Watch bands tend to spill over (unless you close the loop on your watch band every time in the 90° orientation). If there was one thing I could change about the design it would be to locate the port underneath the AirPods charging mat where there’s no hangover.

mophie’s popular 15W MagSafe 3-in-1 travel charger updated with Apple Watch fast charging

mophie today is updating one of its more beloved charging accessories . The 3-in-1 travel charger is one of the company’s most popular MagSafe offerings, and now on top of the 15W tech inside, it’s getting updated with Apple Watch fast charging and a more sustainable design.

Since mophie revealed its 3-in-1 travel charger for the first time back in 2021, a lot has changed with Apple’s ecosystem. So today, the company is taking a chance to update the portable iPhone accessory with some more recent specs that’ll ensure it fits in better with some of the newer chargers in the ZAGG family.

The big update this time around is that there’s now Apple Watch fast charging support. It’s a staple that has been making the cut on more and more chargers since the Apple Watch Series 7 launched with a feature a few years back. And now, mophie is giving some love towards one of its most popular releases so that adopters of the latest wearables from Apple will be able to take full advantage of faster refuels.

Another thing that ZAGG is changing with the mophie 3-in-1 travel charger is how it’s made. The device is now comprised of an eco-friendly fabric which the company notes is made from up to 50% recycled plastic bottles. It’s a nice touch on a product that isn’t seeing the most drastic of changes from the original.

Otherwise, you’re looking at the same design as before. The charger is meant to tag along with you on overnight trips, long vacations, and really anywhere you’d like to refuel that isn’t at home. It folds up when not in use, and then unfurls to reveal all of the actual charging tech. There’s still a main 15W magnetic pad for iPhone 15, as well as a secondary Qi pad for AirPods and other earbuds. Then on the righthand side is the Apple Watch charger and its newfound spec upgrade.

The new mophie 3-in-1 travel charger is now available for purchase direct from the official ZAGG site. It sells for $149.95 , and is now shipping at the same price as the original model.

I met with ZAGG and the mophie team earlier this fall before the iPhone 15 accessory launch, and I was a bit shocked to hear that the 3-in-1 travel charger was one of the company’s best-selling releases. So it makes complete sense why we’d end up with a more minor upgrade versus something entirely new. It’s the same approach that Belkin went for with its 3-in-1 desktop charger, but at least mophie is adding some added sustainability into the mix.

The ideal travel charger for an iPhone user has to do a few simple things. First, it has to fully support MagSafe , so that wirelessly charges your iPhone (assuming it’s an iPhone 12 or later) as fast as possible, at up to 15 watts. Second, it has to be able to wirelessly charge our other Apple devices, because we don’t travel just with our iPhones. And third, it has to fold up nice and compact, so that it’s easier to pack.

Best All-in-One Travel Charger for iPhone

And there are really only two travel chargers that check those three boxes: Apple’s MagSafe Duo ($129) and Mophie’s 3-in-1 Travel Charger with MagSafe ($150) .

Both of these travel chargers can wirelessly charge multiple devices, they fully support MagSafe, and they both fold up nicely. The kicker is: Apple sells both. So what’s the difference? And which one is best?

Mophie’s travel charger can charge more devices

The most obvious difference between Apple’s and Mophie’s travel chargers is the number of devices that they can charge. The MagSafe Duo can only charge two devices at a time, an iPhone and an Apple Watch or the new AirPods Pro; Mophie’s travel charger, meanwhile, can charge three. It has an extra Qi wireless charger specifically fitted for AirPods (so long as their case supports wireless charging).

Unfortunately, neither of these travel chargers has an extra ports for a wired charging connection (in case you wanted to charge a device the traditional non-wireless way). Also, neither can fast charge an Apple Watch (Series 7 or later) as they don’t have the updated charging puck. Which is a bit of a bummer.

Mophie’s travel charger comes with a wall adapter; Apple’s doesn’t

Another big difference between the two travel chargers is that Apple doesn’t include the necessarily wall adapter for it to work right out of the box. This isn’t an uncommon trait for the brand, as it’s part of a lot of big tech’s environmental initiative; Apple thinks people already have enough wall adapters at home, so a lot of today’s smartphones, headphones and other gadgets don’t come with one. Apple recommends pairing it with a 20-watt USB-C adapter — the same one used with an iPad Pro or iPad Air — which is going to cost you an extra $19.

Mophie includes a 30-watt USB-C adapter in the box with its travel charger, which is nice. It also evens the price between the two travel chargers; if you have to buy the wall adapter for the MagSafe Duo, then the two travel chargers are almost the exact same price.

Mophie’s travel charger comes with a carrying case

That’s right. As well as including the wall adapter, Mophie also includes a neat little travel case with little compartments to hold the charger, the cable (USB-C to USB-C) and the wall adapter. It’s made out of this felt material that looks and feels really nice (even if it is a little bit of a magnet for lint and pet hair).

All in all, it’s just a really simple yet thoughtful solution for keeping all your travel charger’s necessary components together. The MagSafe Duo, meanwhile, doesn’t come with any kind of travel case.

Apple’s travel charger feels a bit more premium

Both Apple’s and Mophie’s travel chargers feel well-made. They’re made out of soft-touch materials, and magnetically fold together in a way that feels really tight and neat. However, Apple just does it ever-so-better with the MagSafe Duo.

It has a stronger magnetic connection when it folds in on itself (not holding the iPhone via MagSafe, where the strength is about the same for both), and the silicone-like material feels a bit nicer. Also, when you open Mophie’s travel charger up, the inside is made plastic and is flimsy; it just feels a little less premium.

So, which MagSafe travel charger for iPhone is best?

Admittedly, there is no clear winner here — as it ultimately comes down to your personal taste and what you need. Mophie’s travel charger is probably the better value, even if it’s a little more expensive; the fact that it comes with the necessary power adapter more than makes up for that price difference, plus it can charge one extra device comes the carrying case is an unnecessary but more-than-welcome addition.

If you’re an Apple enthusiast, however, the MagSafe Duo is probably still going to be your go-to travel charger. It snaps together wonderfully, and feels nicer to the touch. Plus, the fact that the newest AirPods Pro can charge on the Apple Watch puck or the MagSafe charger — so you can use whichever spot is open — means that you likely won’t care as much not having the extra wireless charger.

3 travel apps you need before your next flight to keep you out of long TSA lines

Programs like TSA PreCheck and Global Entry can help travelers, but there are also ways that tech can help you prepare for your journey and stay aware of the curveballs that might come your way.

Airline app 

Download your airline’s app! 

It keeps all of your travel information in one, easy-to-access place. 

Turn on notifications to get immediate alerts when it's time to check in so you'll know if there are any delays or gate changes. 

Once you have a boarding pass, save even more time by adding it to the digital wallet on your smartphone.

The lines at airport security can be very unpredictable. Sometimes there is no wait, other times, the line extends into the check-in area. 

The Transportation Security Agency’s (TSA) app, MyTSA, tries to make the wait a little more predictable and helps you determine what to expect, especially if you’re traveling from one of the busiest airports in the US.  

The app provides a real-time look at your selected airport's wait time, any FAA delays, and which TSA PreCheck lanes are open. 

The app also uses historical data to help you plan ahead. So, even if your flight is three days away, the app can show you what you’re likely to encounter that day based on previous experiences. 

It’s also a useful resource if you’re unsure about what you can or can’t pack in your carry-on and checked luggage.

Mobile Passport Control

If you’re traveling abroad, the Mobile Passport Control app makes your return through U.S. customs much faster. 

The app is a digital version of the Customs and Border Patrol Declaration Form that anyone entering the U.S. is required to fill out.  

You can save up to 12 profiles in the app, and only one form is needed per family, per residence. 

The app doesn't work at every airport, so check  the CBP website to see where you can use it.

Touring the Top 10 Moscow Metro Stations

Hidden underground, in the heart of Moscow, are historical and architectural treasures of Russia. These are Soviet-era creations – the metro stations of Moscow.

Our guide Maria introduced these elaborate metro stations as “the palaces for the people.” Built between 1937 and 1955, each station holds its own history and stories. Stalin had the idea of building beautiful underground spaces that the masses could enjoy. They would look like museums, art centers, concert halls, palaces and churches. Each would have a different theme. None would be alike.

The two-hour private tour was with a former Intourist tour guide named Maria. Maria lived in Moscow all her life and through the communist era of 60s to 90s. She has been a tour guide for more than 30 years. Being in her 60s, she moved rather quickly for her age. We traveled and crammed with Maria and other Muscovites on the metro to visit 10 different metro stations.

Moscow subways are very clean

To Maria, every street, metro and building told a story. I couldn’t keep up with her stories. I don’t remember most of what she said because I was just thrilled being in Moscow.   Added to that, she spilled out so many Russian words and names, which to one who can’t read Cyrillic, sounded so foreign and could be easily forgotten.

The metro tour was the first part of our all day tour of Moscow with Maria. Here are the stations we visited:

1. Komsomolskaya Metro Station  is the most beautiful of them all. Painted yellow and decorated with chandeliers, gold leaves and semi precious stones, the station looks like a stately museum. And possibly decorated like a palace. I saw Komsomolskaya first, before the rest of the stations upon arrival in Moscow by train from St. Petersburg.

2. Revolution Square Metro Station (Ploshchad Revolyutsii) has marble arches and 72 bronze sculptures designed by Alexey Dushkin. The marble arches are flanked by the bronze sculptures. If you look closely you will see passersby touching the bronze dog's nose. Legend has it that good luck comes to those who touch the dog's nose.

3. Arbatskaya Metro Station served as a shelter during the Soviet-era. It is one of the largest and the deepest metro stations in Moscow.

4. Biblioteka Imeni Lenina Metro Station was built in 1935 and named after the Russian State Library. It is located near the library and has a big mosaic portrait of Lenin and yellow ceramic tiles on the track walls.

5. Kievskaya Metro Station was one of the first to be completed in Moscow. Named after the capital city of Ukraine by Kiev-born, Nikita Khruschev, Stalin's successor.

6. Novoslobodskaya Metro Station  was built in 1952. It has 32 stained glass murals with brass borders.

7. Kurskaya Metro Station was one of the first few to be built in Moscow in 1938. It has ceiling panels and artwork showing Soviet leadership, Soviet lifestyle and political power. It has a dome with patriotic slogans decorated with red stars representing the Soviet's World War II Hall of Fame. Kurskaya Metro Station is a must-visit station in Moscow.

8. Mayakovskaya Metro Station built in 1938. It was named after Russian poet Vladmir Mayakovsky. This is one of the most beautiful metro stations in the world with 34 mosaics painted by Alexander Deyneka.

9. Belorusskaya Metro Station is named after the people of Belarus. In the picture below, there are statues of 3 members of the Partisan Resistance in Belarus during World War II. The statues were sculpted by Sergei Orlov, S. Rabinovich and I. Slonim.

10. Teatralnaya Metro Station (Theatre Metro Station) is located near the Bolshoi Theatre.
