How to apply for a Spain visa from Oman

How to apply for a Spain visa from Oman

What is a Spain visa and requirements for Oman citizens

  • The Schengen Spain visa is for Oman citizens and residents who need a visa in order to enter Spain and the Schengen area. In order to be approved for the Spain visa from Oman, applicants should fulfill all the Spain visa requirements for Oman citizens and residents . These include the payment of Spain visa fees, submission of a complete application for the correct Spain visas and types, and attendance of a visa appointment (where other in-person requirements are fulfilled). Approved applicants stay for 90 days in Spain. In addition, they can move throughout the Schengen area; a zone consisting of 27 other European countries.

Step 1—Research Spain visas and types for Oman passport holders

  • Before you begin to apply for your visa, consider all the requirements and the time frame for lodging an application. Once you are confident you can meet the requirements, you should proceed with your application.

Step 2—Plan  when  to apply for your Spain visa for Oman citizens

  • When to apply for the Spain visa from Oman depends on your travel plans: if you are planning a trip far in advance, you don’t have to apply right away. However, if your trip is imminent—in under two weeks, for example—you may not receive your visa in time. Ideally, you will apply 60 days before you need to leave Saudi Arabia (60 days is the longest time the Spanish embassy can take to process an application). However, it’s also possible to apply 15-30 days before your trip (it’s not, however, possible to apply more than six months before).

Step 3—Plan  where  to apply for your Schengen visa from Oman

  • A Spain visa from Oman is obtainable from the Spanish Embassy in Muscat. When you apply for a Spain visa from Oman, your documents will be processed by Spanish consular entities within the country. For help locating the Schengen visa application destination in Oman, contact us .

Step 4—Select your  type  of Spain visa from Oman

  • The Spain visa from Oman comes in various types, each of which refers to the main purpose of the journey you’re taking. Omanis who are traveling to the Basque region for the purpose of dining throughout its Michelin star-starred restaurants (for example) should apply for a “Tourist” Spain visa from Oman.
  • See all of Spain visas types Validity and decide which is the best for you.

Step 5—Select your  entry category  of Spain visa from Oman

  • The Spain visa from Oman comes in several entry categories (single, double, and multiple), each of which refers to the number of times the  Spain Schengen visa holder can enter the zone. Single-entry holders can enter it one time, double-entry holders can enter it twice, and multiple-entry holders can enter it as many times as they like. You can travel back and forth between Oman and Spain on a multiple-entry Schengen visa throughout the 90 days your visa is valid. A double entry holder could also fly back to Oman (he or she could enter Spain, stay there for several weeks, fly back to Oman, and re-enter Spain—however if they left Spain a second time, they would not be allowed back in). Single-entry holders cannot return to the Schengen zone after leaving it—for whatever reason. You should therefore only apply for a single-entry Schengen visa to Spain if you are confident you can accomplish the objective of your trip before you need to leave the zone.

Step 6—Fill out your application for how to apply for a Spain visa from Oman

  • The application for the Spain visa from Oman consists of a main application—the basic Schengen visa form, which is available through this link .
  • The Spain Schengen visa form should be printed out and signed. When you fill it out, please do so in either Spanish or English.

Step 7—Assemble the rest of your Spain visa from Oman application

  • Omani/other country passport
  • Two passport pictures
  • Evidence of accommodation in Spain/the Schengen area
  • Evidence you will ultimately depart Spain/the Schengen area
  • Evidence of travel medical insurance
  • Evidence of financial soundness
  • Also required from applicants are supplemental documents, which are specific to the particular visa type you are pursuing. If you selected “Tourist” as your visa type on your Schengen visa, for example, you will need to submit different documents than if you applied for a medical visa. If you are an Arabic speaker, please contact schengenvisas.com for arranging translations of Arabic-language documents.

Step 8—Schedule the visa interview for how to get a Spain visa from Oman

  • Once you have filled out your main application form and assembled the rest of your required documents for your Spain visa from Oman , you may proceed with making a visa appointment.
  • A Schengen visa is for Omanis who pass an interview (which takes place in person at the application destination). To schedule a Schengen visa for Omanis, please contact us.

Step 9—Submit your application and learn how much does a Spain visa cost

  • When the day of your visa appointment arrives, you should be fully prepared to submit all your basic and required documents for the Spain visa from Oman. In addition, you should expect to meet additional Spain visa requirements for Oman citizens (remit payment of your Spain visa fees, submit your biometrics, and photos and sit for an interview).
  • The cost of the Spain visa from Oman is—for most Omanis—80 EUR. You will likely need to pay in USD or EUR (alternatively, you may be able to pay the exchange rate in Omani Riyals). For guidance on paying for your Spain visa from Oman, contact us .
  • Biometrics for the Spain visa for Oman citizens and residents include photos and fingerprints, which are entered into the Schengen zone security system (SIS) to keep track of applicants.
  • The interview for the Schengen visa for the Oman citizens and residents is short (typically 15 minutes) and consists of questions pertaining to your upcoming trip.

Step 10—Processing time for Spain Schengen visa

  • The processing time for the Spain visa from Oman is 15-60 days (typically closer to 15 than 60). You should anticipate ultimately receiving your Spain visa from Oman in your Omani passport, which will be returned to you at the conclusion of the processing period.

Step 11*—Appeal or reapply for a rejected Spain visa from Oman

  • Rejections for the Spain visa from Oman do occur. Applicants who do not adequately prove their intent to leave Spain before their visa expires, those who fail to demonstrate financial soundness, and anyone who is thought to present a security risk to the Schengen area will be rejected. Reapply for your visa or submit an appeal by contacting us at schengenvisas.com

National visas

Third-country nationals require a national visa when they are going to stay in Spain for more than 90 days (in any 180-day period) for the purposes of work, study or establishing their residence. They also need a national visa when moving to Spain to work for a period of under 90 days.

Citizens of the European Union or of the States of the European Economic Area or Switzerland do not need a visa to establish their residence in Spain or for long-term studies or to work. However, once in Spain, they must be entered on the Register for Citizens of the Union. Family members accompanying them, and who benefit from the right to free movement, must apply for a residence permit in Spain. If they need a stay visa because of their nationality, they must obtain a visa for family members of a citizen of the Union (see section " Visas for family members of a citizen of the Union ").

The national visa allows the holder to travel to Spain and to transit through and move around the territory of any Schengen State for a maximum of 90 days. However, it does not automatically entitle them to enter the Schengen area. The border authorities can refuse entry if not all entry requirements are met (See section "Conditions for entry into Spain").

Already planning to see the next solar eclipse in 2026? What travelers need to know.

Umbraphiles feeling the post-eclipse blues should start checking the expiration date on their passports.

The next total solar eclipse is set to happen on Aug. 12, 2026, over Greenland, Iceland, Spain, Russia and a small part of Portugal, according to NASA .

In North America, only a partial eclipse will be visible, so if April’s event made you an eclipse chaser and you want to see totality, you’ll need to head overseas.

Start the day smarter. Get all the news you need in your inbox each morning.

Here’s what you’ll need to know before packing your bags:

Do you need a passport or visa for the best destination?

The path of totality for the 2026 eclipse mostly goes through places Americans can travel visa-free with their passport, so long as they’re planning to stay for less than 90 days.

Spain, Portugal, Iceland and Greenland all allow visa-free tourist travel for U.S. passport holders.

Spain, Portugal and Iceland are also members of the Schengen Area, which allows for visa-free travel in much of Europe, meaning if you decide to make a multi-country trip out of your eclipse adventure, you won’t need to clear customs if you’re coming from much of the rest of Europe, either.

One major change for travelers to Europe from the U.S., however, is that electronic preauthorization will become a requirement beginning in mid-2025. The European Travel Information and Authorization System (ETIAS) requirement will apply to all four open countries in the path of totality.

Depending on the state of the Ukraine war, travel to Russia may or may not be an option for most Americans by 2026, so it’s unclear what the paperwork requirements will be by then.

Is it better to see it from the beach?

Beaches can be a great place to see the eclipse because there are few natural obstacles blocking observers’ views of the sky. The 2026 path of totality passes over beaches on Spain’s northern and southeastern coasts, as well as over islands in the Mediterranean Sea including Mallorca, Menorca and Ibiza. The eclipse will also pass over coastal areas in Greenland and Iceland, according to the National Solar Observatory .

Cruising Altitude: What it was like to see the eclipse from a plane

Will there be eclipse cruises or flights?

Almost certainly, although most operators have not announced specific plans yet.

Cruise lines will also offer more viewing opportunities. Princess Cruises “has created a bespoke itinerary aboard Sky Princess to position the ship near Spain on that date,” according to a spokesperson for the line. The cruise will open for bookings on Princess’s website on May 23.

Cunard Line has sailings on its Queen Mary 2 , Queen Victoria and Queen Anne vessels that will put passengers in prime spots to watch .

'The ship can move': Why you should watch next solar eclipses from a cruise ship

Holland America Line is also planning multiple sailings around the event, though details are still to be announced. “Guests have reacted positively to our 2024 eclipse cruises and with the next full eclipse in 2026 we plan to have three sailings in Europe that will align with the path of the eclipse,” Paul Grigsby, the line's vice president of Deployment & Itinerary Planning, previously told USA TODAY in an email.

Spain to scrap 'golden visa' scheme for non-EU citizens in blow to British expats

The measure is unlikely to affect the property market since less than 0.1% of 4.5 million homes sold from 2013 to 2022 were purchased under the scheme, according to property website Idealista.

Spain is to scrap a "golden visa" scheme that grants residency rights to foreigners who make large investments in real estate.

Ending the scheme would help make access to affordable housing "a right instead of a speculative business", Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez said.

Money blog: Latest updates

The programme awards non-EU citizens investing at least €500,000 (around £429,000) in Spanish real estate - without taking out a mortgage - a special permit, allowing them to live and work in the country for three years.

Mr Sanchez said: "Today, 94 out of every 100 such visas are linked to real estate investment... in major cities that are facing a highly stressed market and where it's almost impossible to find decent housing for those who already live, work and pay their taxes there."

From the start of the golden visa scheme in 2013 to November 2022, Spain issued almost 5,000 permits, government figures show.

Chinese investors top the list, followed by Russians who invested more than €3.4bn (£2.91bn), according to a 2023 Transparency International report.

Spain is also one of the most popular destinations for British emigrants in Europe.

The UN estimated in 2020 that 303,000 British nationals lived in Spain.

The scheme allowed British people with holiday homes in Spain to circumvent rules limiting non-EU citizens to a 90-day stay in EU countries without needing a visa.

The measure is unlikely to affect the property market since less than 0.1% of 4.5 million homes sold during that period were purchased under the scheme, according to property website Idealista.

A spokesperson for the website said Spain's housing crisis was not caused by the scheme but by a lack of supply and a spike in demand.

"The measure announced today, which focuses on international buyers rather than encouraging new homes to come onto the market, is yet another misdiagnosis," they said.

Spain's housing problem particularly impacts its younger population who find it "difficult to transition from education to the labour market" and this, coupled with a lack of affordable housing, means many Spaniards remain at home with their parents at an older age compared to other young Europeans, an OECD 2023 report found.

Portugal has recently revamped its own "golden visa" scheme and excluded real estate investment to tackle its housing crisis.

The European Commission has long called for an end to such programmes, citing security risks.

Insider Today

A cruise ship carrying 1,500 passengers was stuck in port in Barcelona after Spanish authorities investigated 69 Bolivian passengers.

The police believed that the Bolivian passengers' visas were fake and are investigating, Spanish police authorities told news agency Efe .

The MSC Armonia cruise ship set off from Brazil and was due to continue through the Mediterranean, with some passengers switching over in Barcelona, Efe reported.

Related stories

The delay has meant that planned stops in France, Greece, and Croatia have been canceled which has caused some disgruntled passengers to leave the boat early, Reuters reported.

Barcelona was meant to be the final destination for the Bolivian passengers. However, the ship had to stay in port until the situation was resolved.

In a statement shared with Business Insider, MSC Cruises confirmed that the cruise would resume sailing on Thursday.

"Thanks to the cooperation with the Spanish authorities, the group of Bolivian guests has been disembarked and will now follow the immigration process as required by law. We are fully assisting with this process," they said.

The spokesperson confirmed that the passengers' visas were found to be not valid for entry and that the Spanish authorities are investigating.

The passengers' will be held on another boat while Spanish authorities decide whether they will be deported or granted asylum, Reuters reported, citing the government's regional delegation in Catalonia.

Solange Duarte, a Bolivian diplomat in Barcelona, told the AP that she had received reports that some of the Bolivian passengers had been duped into obtaining fake visas.

MSC Cruises is one of the world's largest cruise lines, known for its long luxury trips that can set sail for months at a time.

Its new four-month-long world cruise, which will set off in 2026, is expected to cost passengers between $15,800 and $38,210 per person, depending on their cabin.
