what cruise line goes to atlantis

If you are planning or have been on a cruise, then you are probably aware that one of the major stops for many Caribbean cruises is Nassau in the Bahamas. We were fortunate enough to go on another cruise that stopped in the Bahamas on our recent trip, and one thing I overheard was that there isn’t a whole lot to do in Nassau for kids. I might have agreed with that sentiment prior to this trip, but one surefire thing to do that kids will enjoy is visiting Atlantis.

You may have heard about Atlantis in the past but you may not entirely be sure what there is to do there. For those who are visiting as part of a day trip on a cruise, the biggest attraction is the Aquaventure Water Park. According to Atlantis’ website, the water park is spread out over 141 acres, much of which is lined with beaches. The park has a number of water slides as well as a “rapids river”, which is a combination of a lazy and not-so-lazy river.

Getting there from the cruise port is pretty straightforward. There are a number of taxis waiting just outside of the gate after you leave the port. We didn’t have any issues whatsoever with either of our taxi trips, and if you use one of the services that combine passengers from multiple cruise ships the price is only $5 per person each way. We liked that there were about 8 – 10 passengers with us each way, as it made us feel just a little bit safer in a foreign country. If you do feel like you want an additional amount of security you might check out Cheryl’s Taxi Service. We saw that they were highly recommended and had excellent reviews from various sites. I felt like the taxis waiting at the gate were absolutely sufficient, and I think there was an extra element of ease with their operation. We didn’t have to meet up or stay in contact with a particular service. The distance to Atlantis is approximately 2 miles from the port if you feel up to a hike. I would definitely NOT recommend this as the day trip is already short and there would be the least amount of safety with this route. Doing research on how to get there before you leave for your cruise is recommended. There is of course the option of going as a port adventure with your cruise, which will make the travel portion a whole lot easier, but it will also cost an additional amount per person and may restrict your time at the destination.

There was a little bit of a line waiting to purchase tickets to get into Atlantis. If you aren’t going as part of a port adventure with your cruise, buying tickets ahead of time would be recommended so you can skip this line. You can purchase tickets directly on their website so that there are no additional fees tacked onto the tickets by third parties. The website was a little confusing as to where to book the Aquaventure Day experience. It is currently located under Experience > Aquaventure and then scroll down to Aquaventure Day Pass Booking.

Once we got inside the resort there was a little bit of a walk to get to Aquaventure. There were people that helped guide us to the water park. There were also lockers available at Aquaventure for us to keep our belongings in, and we didn’t have any issue purchasing or securing these.

The water park itself is large so finding our way around was a slight learning curve. We finally locked down a beach chair that was between the Mayan Pyramid slides, the near-Pandora looking slides and the Rapids River. This made it easier for everyone to find each other at a somewhat central location.

I think the favorite activity among our family was definitely the Rapids River. It had a mix of calm, slow moving water and spots where you would go down rapids. The rapids weren’t too much for anyone in our group, and I would think that ages 8 and up would be great at a minimum. We also enjoyed the water slides but didn’t make it to the most challenging ones. There was also an awesome water slide among the Mayan slides that ended by going past a bunch of sea life through a clear tube.

A multitude of lunch options were available at the park itself, including grilled burgers, jerk chicken and adult beverages too. There were also restaurants inside the resort such as a pizzeria and mediterranean cuisine. If you are jonesing for Starbucks you can get that here as well.

Lastly, we did walk through a casino as we made our way in and out of the resort. We did not stay to play any of the games, but it was a large casino with slot machines, cards, roulette and the works. This part is definitely not for kids but if any adults are looking for a little gambling time on your cruise, this certainly fits the bill.

All in all it was a great day. We got to see parts of Nassau on the way to and from the resort and cruise port, and our family had a really enjoyable day. It is absolutely a worthwhile visit and one that can either be done as a port adventure through the cruise activities or on your own.

3 Thoughts on “Tips for Visiting Atlantis in Nassau (from a Cruise)”

This was helpful, can we walk?

I wouldn’t recommend walking from the boat to Atlantis as it would take up a good part of your day. It is possible to do however.

Also thank you for the compliment 🙂

But, you don’t need to be a guest at the resort to visit this mega-resort. From information on the top attractions to details about how to get there (and which day pass to reserve), read on for your ultimate guide to day-tripping to Atlantis Paradise Island.

Attractions and Things to Do at Atlantis Paradise Island

There are 85 gaming tables, 21 restaurants, and 19 bars and lounges at Atlantis Paradise Island. However, while throwing down some cash on the craps tables or roulette wheel may satisfy some visitors, others—especially families—are drawn to the Atlantis' aquatic allure; specifically the resort's spectacular "lost world" themed water park, dolphin encounter program, beaches, and the underground mysteries of The Dig, a walk-through exploration of the Lost City of Atlantis. Day tickets for all of these activities can be purchased at Discover Atlantis Sales Centers located throughout the property.

Given the hordes of visitors to the Atlantis daily, it's not surprising that the resort limits access to some of these attractions—notably the Aquaventure pool and water park area—to preserve a premier experience for hotel guests. However, that does not mean that day-trippers can't visit the Atlantis attractions, including Aquaventure; you'll have to pay a bit for the privilege (and expect a significant markup on these prices if you buy through a cruise line).

  • Dolphin Cay at Atlantis: Day visitors can swim and play with Atlantic bottlenose dolphins at the state-of-the-art, 14-acre habitat.
  • Discover Atlantis Tour: This tour is best known to day-trippers, in part because it is sold as an excursion on cruise ships. Expert "Navigators" guide visitors through the ancient city streets of Atlantis during a visit to "The Dig," a faux-but-believable archaeological exploration of an 11,000-year-old lost continent. The attraction is full of interesting artifacts, along with great water effects and glimpses of exotic sea life, including piranha, moon jellyfish, venomous lionfish, and a resident manta ray. A Discover Atlantis Tour wristband allows visitors to explore The Dig and its exhibits as well as the Ruins, Predator, and Water’s Edge Lagoons—but not the waterpark.
  • Atlantis Beach Day: The Atlantis Beach Day program provides all-day access to the Atlantis resort's exclusive white sandy beaches, with lounge chairs and towels provided. It also includes access to marine habitats and lunch at an outside venue.
  • Atlantis Aquaventure Package : Day-trippers can purchase an Atlantis Aquaventure package that provides all-day access to pools, beaches, and Aquaventure, a 141-acre waterscape containing over 20 million gallons of water with water slides, and a mile-long river ride with high-intensity rapids and wave surges. The passes are only available to guests staying at partners of the Atlantis Resort. They can be purchased (on a restricted basis) at the Atlantis Adventures Desk at the clock tower in front of The Coral.

How to Get There

Paradise Island (formerly Hog Island) is a 685-acre island off the northern coast of Nassau, the capital of the island of New Providence. There is no public transport to take you to Paradise Island—the local bus system, the "jitney," will only take you as far as the ferry terminal, so your best bet is either to take a ferry or a taxi.

To access Paradise Island by water, hop aboard a 15-minute ferry ride from Nassau to Paradise Island. The ferry departs from Nassau Cruise Port from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and costs $3 for a one-way ticket. On your boat ride to Paradise Island, a guide will also give you a brief history lesson of the island and its many attractions. Once you've arrived on Paradise Island, it's a 10-minute walk from the ferry dock to Marina Village in Atlantis.

If you decide to rent a car, note that there is limited free parking available on Paradise Island (and limited spots are found near the public beach). The best alternative is to valet your vehicle at the cost of $16.75 per day. Whether you're driving or opting for a taxi, be prepared to pay the northbound one-way $1 bridge toll. In taxis, this will be on top of your metered fare—and the average cost for a one-way trip from Lynden Pindling International Airport to Paradise Island is about $35. Another alternative is to be dropped off along the coast of New Providence to walk across the bridge (an activity that is toll-free). Once you've arrived on the island, there's no need to rent a car, as visitors can easily walk the grounds and explore everything the hotel has to offer on foot.

Day passes are mandatory for all non-hotel guests at the Atlantis to experience Dolphin Cay, the waterpark, the marine habitat, and the beaches. The passes can be purchased (on a restricted basis) at the Atlantis Adventures desk, situated at the clock tower at The Coral. These passes have been known to sell out, so it's imperative to book online in advance. World Travel Holdings also sells day passes to Aquaventure, Atlantis Dolphin Cay, and the iconic British Colonial Hilton. These passes are marketed primarily to cruise visitors but can be an excellent add-on for anyone visiting Nassau.

  • The Aquaventure pass includes admission to Aquaventure and The Dig, lounge chairs, and towels.
  • Dolphin Cay experiences include a shallow-water interaction with dolphins.
  • The British Colonial Hilton pass includes all-day access to the resort's pristine private beach and pool, snorkeling and kayaking, lounge chairs and towels, and a food and beverage credit.

Tips for Visitors

  • There's more to Paradise Island than just the Atlantis, so be sure to explore the rest of the island. We suggest hiking to the Nassau lighthouse for gorgeous seaside views along the coast. Of all the waterpark attractions, the underwater shark walk is not to be missed—imagine a turquoise tunnel full of predators. (It's as scary and thrilling as it sounds).
  • There is no visitor information center in Paradise Island, so make sure to consult downtown the tourist information available for visitors in downtown Nassau.
  • If you're planning on staying for dinnertime, make a reservation in advance, as restaurants can become busy, especially in the colder months. Additionally, the resort will limit attractions during the peak busy season to preserve hotel guests' experience—a hindrance that won't be an issue for you if you're visiting during the off-season. If you're visiting in the off-season (summer and fall), expect fewer crowds—for the waterslides and the bars and restaurants, alike.
  • If you're taking the ferry to Paradise Island, remember to bring cash. Although exact change isn't necessary, it's helpful as you will be expected to tip your tour guides, who provide colorful commentary and historical insight into the past and present-day iterations of Nassau and Paradise Island.

Everything About Riding the Ferry from Nassau to Paradise Island (Atlantis)

Headed into Nassau for a cruise? If so, you’re no doubt looking for something fun to do.

While there are a number of things to do in Nassau , one of the most popular things is to take the ferry to head to Paradise Island.

Located across the channel from the cruise piers, you’ll notice Paradise Island right away. Dominating the island is the Atlantis Bahamas resort. The mega hotel features a casino, shops, restaurants, a waterpark, and a dolphin encounter.

Nassau ferry to Paradise Island

But Atlantis isn’t the only reason people take the ferry to get to Paradise Island.

The island has some of the closest and most beautiful beaches to the cruise ships. Cabbage Beach is a popular destination thanks to its powdery, white sand and electric blue water. Also on the island are a number of beach clubs, restaurants, a golf course, and more.

If you want to get to Paradise Island, then you have two choices — a taxi cab or the ferry. Both cost about the same, but in our opinion the ferry is the more memorable experience.

If you’re wanting to take the boat across, here’s everything you need to know about the cost, where to catch it, and what to expect.

The Ferry to Paradise Island Costs $7 Each Way

what cruise line goes to atlantis

One of the great things about taking the ferry? It’s actually pretty cheap although rates have risen in recent years. Rates are $7 per person each way, or $14 round trip. Be sure to bring cash, and it’s ideal that you bring exact change. If you don’t have exact change, don’t worry, as they can make change for small bills. We certainly wouldn’t bring $50 or $100 cash to pay for the fare.

U.S. dollars are accepted. There’s no need to change money.

Catch the Boat Inside the Port Area

Map showing route of Paradise Island and Nassau ferry

In years past, you had to leave the cruise terminal area to catch the ferry. Now you can get a ride right near the ships.

When you exit the cruise ship in Nassau, head to the middle docks (often where Carnival ships dock). You’ll see a small booth advertising “Water Ferries to Paradise Island” on the side opposite of the ships. Trouble finding it? Just ask one of the many information attendants helping to direct traffic around the dock.

Once paid, you’ll enter the marina area and walk down to the boat to board or to wait until a boat arrives.

In total, it’s only a five-minute walk from most of the cruise ships.

The Ferry Ride Takes About 10 Minutes

As you’ll see from the cruise ship, Atlantis and Paradise Island aren’t that far away. In total, the trip to the island only takes about 10 minutes.

As you leave, you’ll go out around the cruise ships, giving you a great photo opportunity of the ships from all sides. You’ll then cut through the middle of the channel, right beside Atlantis, and finally dock underneath the causeway bridge between Nassau and Paradise Island.

The Boats Are Open-Air (and Slow Moving)

what cruise line goes to atlantis

Don’t expect luxury or a speed boat when you buy your ticket. The ferry boats are older and just cruise along; this isn’t a thrill ride.

Passengers come on board and sit wherever they can find a seat. If the ship you are on has two levels, then the shaded spots on the lower deck fill up fastest. We’d estimate that most ships hold between 30-50 people.

One thing to note is that the ferries are not accessible to those in wheelchairs or having mobility issues. In fact, you may have to climb over a short wall at the pier or step over ropes to get onto the boat. If you or your traveling partner needs more than a handhold to get on the ship, they would be better off catching a taxi cab.

There’s a Tour Guide on Every Boat

Don’t expect to just have a quiet ride over to the island or back to the cruise pier. On each ride there is a “tour guide.” While the captain drives the boat, the tour guide gives a running commentary telling you a number of facts and history about the Bahamas, Nassau, and Paradise Island. He will point out the sights along the ride, including the “Michael Jackson” suite at Atlantis that costs $25,000 a night… with a four-night minimum stay.

Truth be told the tour is pretty interesting the first time you hear it, but you’ll hear the same one if you head back on the ferry to the cruise ship.

At the end of the ride the tour guide will ask for tips. A buck or two is a nice gesture.

Ferry Boats Run Every 30 Minutes From 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

If you need a ride, then the schedule is pretty easy to remember. Boats run every half hour between nine in the morning and six in the evening. This includes Sundays and holidays.

In our experience, they actually run more often than that. In fact, we’ve never waited more than 10-15 minutes for a boat to arrive.

Still, one thing you don’t want to test is the time of the last boat to the mainland. If you are on Paradise Island and want to take a ferry back to the ship, we’d recommend arriving at the dock no later than 5 p.m. to ensure that you get back well before the last ship departs.

Returning to the Cruise Ship is a Similar Process

Ferry landing on Paradise Island

Ready to head back? In this case you’ll just make your way back to the spot underneath the bridge where you were dropped off.

Once there, you can head to one of the blue booths to buy a ticket back. Sometimes they will simply ask you to pay as you board the boat instead. On the ride back you’ll get the same “tour” and the trip takes about 10 minutes, with great views of the cruise ships.

Thirsty? Want to do some shopping? There are a couple of small souvenir stands and drink stands where you get pick up something before you leave.

Can you take the ferry from the Atlantis to Junkanoo Beach?

Not to my knowledge. That would entail going around the entire island as the beach is on the other side.

Why are there NO images of the ferries that will be transporting tourists from Nassau to Paradise Island?

There are several in this article?

How far is the walk from the ferry landing to Atlantis hotel?

About 10-15 minutes or so.

Do not trust this ferry service. They stopped running before 4:15 PM despite already accepting payment for a return trip. We were forced to take a taxi after only being told at 5:00PM that no more ferries were coming.

Sure, that shouldn’t be an issue.

Is there a fewer from Baha mar to paradise Island. Wanting to go to straw market and bay at and not sure how I would get there. Thank you in advance

No, the ferry goes from right near the cruise port to Paradise Island. You’d need a taxi.

Atlantis for the day from Carnival Cruise Line

Wow. This place fulfilled all expectations! Everything looks exactly like it is advertised. So many great options to choose from in the water park! Firstly, I looked everywhere for a better deal than what was given by the carnival cruise for the day pass to the Aquaventure Water Park...Unfortunately there wasn't many other options. So in the end I payed almost $200 a person to stay the day at Atlantis. Yes it is a lot of money, but realistically when I am every going to have another chance? I came on vacation to have a good time, lets not stress about money. It is worth it in the end. They have so many different types of pools and water slides perfect for anyone at any age and families as well. I am also glad I took the excursion with carnival cruise line in the end because they take you there and back (with busses waiting outside at all times) to the boat, plus you get a lunch voucher. You also have access to the beaches that line the resort! Its Huge! I didn't even get to do everything and I was there since it opened. I would definitely go back if I could. The hotel inside is amazing! Don't forget to look at the aquariums before you leave (which is included)!

We split our time between Aquaventure and the beach and loved them both! Get there early (pools open at 9 slides at 10) for pool seating and towels. Grab your tubes and hopefully get through lines! We never waited more than 10 min getting there at 10 and got through all slides at both Mayan temple and Power Tower within 2 hours with Current river rides in between. Once the cruise ships come there is a huge difference in the crowds and lines. Back at the pools there are many options to grab food and drink service comes to you. Memories made that will last forever with my family traveling with teens!

Hi Passportlove09, Thank you for joining us at Atlantis! It sounds like your time with us was worthy of five-stars and for those reading this review, the Power Tower is the tallest feature of Aquaventure at 120 feet fall, and home to four adrenaline- inducing water slides including The Abyss, The Drop, The Falls, and The Surge. Surrounding the Power Tower is Aquaventure’s complex river ride system, driven by waves that push inner-tube riders through the scenic landscape. The Current is Aquaventure’s longer, mile-long river loop fueled by three million gallons of water and high-intensity waves. See you again soon. - Atlantis Management Team

If you're planning to visit the Bahamas and are traveling with kids 48" or more tall, this is a great place to visit. If you are staying at Atlantis properties, or Comfort Suites, plan your day around cruise ship visitors to avoid crowds. If you are planning on a cruise excursion, look online for lower price Aquaventure entry options. We've done both and enjoyed ourselves each time. To max out, we suggest you start your day early to secure a locker or shaded "home base for the day". Rides open around 10AM but there's plenty to do if you arrive at 9AM, including the beach, "The Dig" (aquarium), and areas where kids see stingrays and sharks. Lines will be long for some rides so strongly suggest checking out the reviews, videos about specific rides posted online before your visit...

We just returned from our stay at The Cove. My daughters, who are older teens enjoyed their time in the park. We all did the River Rapids, it was fantastic. I do think if they had been younger they would have spent more time there.

Hi gentry42016, Thanks for sharing your experience at Aquaventure! It sounds like you had a blast on our 18 water rides and 2 river rides fit for guests of all ages and for those reading this review, Atlantis has two river rides, a lazy river near Beach Tower, and The Current, which is a rapids river ride. We look forward to welcoming you back to paradise. - Atlantis Management Team

I just want to say the entire resort is amazing. We used Bahamas Day Pass with no issues. (Which is a 3rd party vendor that sells tickets) We took our confirmation directly to the ticket window and we were provided with our meal vouchers as well as our wristbands for entry into the water park. This waterpark is phenomenal. The rides were thrilling and the lines weren't too long, Very well managed and clean. Food was great. The best part is the beach is right next to the waterpark. Each waterslide provides spectacular views of the resort. Very spacious and the layout was easy to get where you are going. I would recommend visit this resort any time you come to the Bahamas. There is nothing overrated about this resort at all. Trust me. Bring your family.

Hi Bri K, Thanks for telling us about your amazing experience at Atlantis! It sounds like you had no shortage of fun during your time in paradise and we do value your recommendation to other families. See you again soon on future trips. - Atlantis Management Team

The park was beautiful but not worth paying $150.00 per person (family of 5)for four rides! The food itself was also expensive and the drinks were ok! The only thing my family and myself enjoyed was the pool. They did provided a changing room with amenities if you choose to shower. My advise for everyone is to wear water shoes, since the ground is extremely hot. Make sure to bring your own towels, since is only for guests from the hotel.

Hi mpacheco0214, Thanks for joining us in paradise. We are disappointed that you don't feel that your time at Aquaventure was worth it and please know, we do recommend packing water shoes to explore Aquaventure water park. We hope that you will consider joining us again so that we can deliver a truer Atlantis experience. - Atlantis Management Team

Atlantis in the Bahamas

Atlantis from Mayan Temple

By:   Jen Travis , a Marvelous Mouse Travels agent

Did you know that Atlantis in the Bahamas allows cruise passengers to visit the resort when their ship is docked in Nassau? That’s right...cruise lines such as Norwegian and Disney Cruise lines offer excursions to Atlantis but what exactly can you do there?

This 100 acre oceanfront waterscape features 35 restaurants, rock climbing, water park and an open-air marine habitat with over 50,000 marine animals with over 250 species represented. There are several lagoons featuring a vast array of animals including sharks, stingrays, and more. They also have on property a dolphin rehabilitation center called Dolphin Cay where they take care of rescued bottlenose dolphins, sea lions, and manta rays.

Atlantis Grotto Pool

From the Port of Nassau you are about 15 minutes from the Atlantis property. When you arrive you will check in and are then given a wristband that allows you access to the property. A cool perk to this excursion is that they also provide towels and life jackets so you do not need to bring any with you from the ship. You do want to try to go and scope out chairs as they do go fast! Pro-Tip, a good spot to lounge or grab a chair is the Grotto Pool area. You are in close proximity to pretty much everything, the beach, pools and waterslides. Plus there are food options, bathrooms and first aid fairly close to this area. It is a win-win!

Mayan Temple

You get to the Aquaventure area but what is there to do?

Atlantis Main Pool

Let me tell you there is no shortage of things to do at Atlantis in the Bahamas! There are over 11 pools on property. The Mayan Temple is one of the most popular areas on property as it features a series of water rides including a near vertical plunge! There is also the Power Tower which has 4 water slides. There is also a Rapid which you will need an inner tube for but this is a lot of fun on a hot day! Also if you are not a pool person they have an absolutely GORGEOUS beach! Another Pro-tip, get on the rides early as they get busy later in the day. Also after 4pm is another good time to try out some of their amazing water slides.

Once your ferry is docked, it’s a 10-minute walk to the entrance of the Marina Village and Atlantis. Here’s what to do:

From the ferry, follow the crowd. We docked to the left of Margaritaville and then walked under the toll bridge that connects Nassau with Paradise Island.

Walking to Atlantis Resort from the ferry boat dock on Paradise Island.

Just follow the sidewalk (and the crowd) until you reach the traffic light. Cross straight ahead, turn right and cross again. The entrance to Marina Village will be on your left, about 200-ft ahead.

Atlantis Paradise Island Bahamas cruise port

Region Bahamas - Caribbean - Bermuda

Local Time 2024-04-30 08:44

Paradise Island (Bahamas) has total area approx 1 mi2 (2,8 km2, or 277 hectares / 685 acres) and is located close to Nassau (just offshore New Providence Island's northern tip). Just 3 mi (5 km) to the east is Rose Island .

Paradise Island is privately-owned (resort and residential property). It is best known for the Atlantis Resort - a huge leisure complex with Aquaventure (water park), exclusive beach, several premium hotels, restaurants, shops, casinos. Both islands (New Providence and Paradise) are connected via two bridges over Nassau Harbour. Passenger ferries provide regularly scheduled service from Nassau to the surrounding islands, and mainly to Paradise Island.

Until 1999, Paradise Island had its own airport that served the carriers (now defunct) Paradise Island Airlines and Chalk's International Airlines, as well as US Airways Express (linking to Fort Lauderdale's Hollywood Airport). Today, the airport's area is occupied by the 18-hole Paradise Island Golf Course. The top-luxury golf course is surrounded by the "Ocean Club" - one of The Bahamas wealthiest residential areas, with the top-properties priced from ~USD 40 million.

Initially named Hog Island, the isle's development started in 1959 following the island's purchase by George Huntington Hartford II (owner of A&P - US chain of grocery stores, 1859-founded, 2015-bankrupted). Hog Island was previously owned by Axel Wenner-Gren (Swedish entrepreneur, one of the world's wealthiest men during the 1930s). Paradise Island was officially opened in 1962. In 1984, Paradise Island was purchased by Merv Griffin (US TV show host). Island's current market value (2020) is ~USD 2 billion.

Royal Beach Club Bahamas (Royal Caribbean's property on Paradise Island)

In mid-March 2020, RCCL-Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd announced plans to build a second (after St Johns Antigua ) Royal Beach Club (private resort property) at Paradise Island's western end. The complex is exclusive (for RCI-Royal Caribbean International cruise ship tourists only) and visited as a "beach day" shore excursion option via private tours from Nassau.

Royal Beach Club Bahamas will be developed with premium beaches and RCI's signature beachside resort amenities and services. In February 2020, RCG purchased land from private landowners ("multiple real estate parcels"/13,5-acres/5,5-hectares) on Paradise Island's western coast, at the cost of ~USD 50 million (~EUR 42 million). Additional 7 acres/2,8 hectares were leased by The Bahamas government.

Royal Beach Club has max capacity 3500 (cruisers plus staff) and consists of two dining pavilions (sized 35000 ft2/3252 m2 each/ with max guest capacity 1500 each), a resort-style swimming pool (sized 26000 ft2 / 2415 m2), splash pad for children (sized 4000 ft2 / 371 m2), beach facilities (14 bars, restrooms, cabanas for rent, large swimming pools) and dining/entertainment (Bahamian food, beach-style barbecues, live music and dancing by local performers). The facilities are supported by a reverse osmosis plant (for water desalination), wastewater plant and waste management facility, fuel storage, storage building.

Royal Beach Club Bahamas has 3 primary zones - Family Beach, Serenity Beach, and Activity Zone (with pools).

RCI's Royal Beach Club admission is all-inclusive, covering water taxi transportation (to/from the resort), all food and beverages (including alcoholic), beach access (chairs, umbrellas), non-motorized watersports activities (swimming, snorkeling, kayaking, paddle boarding).

Royal Beach Club Bahamas now totals 17 acres/~7 hectares, including 13 acres of RCG-owned land and 4 acres of Crown Land. This is a public-private venture that includes 51% RCG ownership, with the remaining 49% equity being owned by Bahamian businesses and entrepreneurs.

Construction works were scheduled to start in October 2021 and to be completed by May 2023. However, due to the COVID crisis, the project was postponed. The construction was officially started on April 22, 2024, with completion in 2025. The groundbreaking ceremony was attended by Jason Liberty (RCG's President and CEO), Michael Bayley (RCI's President and CEO), as well as Philip Davis (The Bahamas’ Prime Minister) and Chester Cooper (Deputy Prime Minister).

The development project will be built based on Royal Caribbean’s sustainability principles and proven practices, and fully compliant with The Bahamas' environmental requirements. These include the 100% elimination of single-use plastics, the use of compostable packaging and biodegradable cutlery, biodigesters (for processing organic waste), partnerships with Bahamian recycling companies, using renewable energy sources (solar, wind, hydro), as well as protecting the marine environment by avoiding dredging of the seabed, not building overwater cabanas, and installing the best wastewater treatment plant.

A Bahamian company will conduct environmental monitoring during construction and operation, with public reporting of the results.

By this project, Royal Caribbean will also restore Paradise Island's western end by removing invasive plant species and adding native plants and vegetation.

More details on the project are expected in the coming months.

Paradise Island Atlantis Resort

The world-famous resort was officially opened in 1968 (as Paradise Island Hotel & Casino) and renamed (to Atlantis Paradise Island) in 1998. The property was initially owned by Resorts International (one of Merv Griffin's companies). In 1994, the resort was purchased by Kerzner International Ltd (a company of Solomon Kerzner - the founder of South Africa's largest hotel chains - Southern Sun Hotel Group, and Sun International). In 2007 were two large, top-luxury hotels - The Cove (600-room) and The Reef (497-room). Today, the Atlantis Resort is owned and operated by Brookfield Property Partners LP (2013-founded real estate company, subsidiary of Brookfield Asset Management). In 2014, the Resort became a member of Autograph Collection Hotels (independent premium hotels within Marriott International Inc's brands).

Besides The Cove and The Reef hotels, the Atlantis Resort also includes The Beach Tower (casual hotel), The Coral Tower (600-room, with resort pools and swim-up bar), The Royal Tower (one of the world's most expensive), Harborside Resort (392 villas, seafront restaurant, swimming pool area), The Marina (yacht/boat berthing facility where can dock even world's largest superyachts), Marina Village (shopping center).

The Aquaventure waterpark's signature attractions include Mayan Temple Slides (6-stories high structure with water rides, including a near-drop slide plunging into a shark-filled lagoon / via transparent submerged tunnel), Rapid River (1 mi / 1,6 km long artificial river with waterfalls, waves, rapids, steam and lighting effects), Power Tower (height 120 ft / 37 m, with 4x waterslides), The Dig (Atlantis-themed complex with 14x artificial lagoons and 50,000+ marine animals / 250+ different species), Ocean Club Golf (18-hole golf course sized ~63900 ft2 / 6000 m2, with restaurant and clubhouse bar).

Atlantis Resort guests can charter boats for exclusive tours to nearby islands (including Rose Island). Resort-owned luxury tour boats also do scenic cruising around Paradise Island and in Nassau Harbour.

The Bahamas Is Requiring All Visiting Cruise Passengers Be Vaccinated And Cruise Lines Are Changing Their Policies To Comply

The policy will be in effect through at least Nov. 1.

Cruise passengers heading to the Bahamas will soon have to show proof of vaccination before docking at a port including on a cruise line’s private island.

Starting Sept. 3, cruise ships will not be able to dock in the Bahamas unless all passengers 12 and older supply proof they are fully vaccinated, according to an emergency order issued Thursday and posted to the Bahamas Customs & Excise Department website. The order will be in effect through at least Nov. 1.

To comply, ship captains must submit the passenger manifest with the passenger’s vaccination status, including when a ship stops at a cruise line’s private island in the country.

The order does not apply to crew members, children under 12, or anyone who is ineligible for the COVID-19 vaccine due to a medical reason.

Royal Caribbean which saw several guests test positive for COVID-19 on cruises sailing from the Bahamas last month will require all guests 12 and older be fully vaccinated on cruises visiting the island nation starting Sept. 3, including those leaving from Florida, according to the company . Previously, Royal Caribbean required all guests 12 and older to show proof of vaccination before boarding nearly all cruises except those leaving out of Florida.

For its part, Norwegian Cruise line extended its vaccination mandate through the end of the year.

They Will Want To Go To Their Private Islands

Dionisio DAguilar, the Bahamian minister of tourism and aviation, told Tribune Business that he intended to encourage cruise lines to come back to the Bahamas once cruising resumes. Obviously, when they start cruising again, they will not want to come to the population centers, he said. They will want to go to their private islands, because they can control the environment.

He went on to say that as minister of tourism, he would encourage to come to the population centers, because thats where they will make the most economic impact.

This is a major turnaround for DAguilar, who has spent the past several years complaining that cruise line guests dont spend enough money.

Three years ago, he complained to the same newspaper about what he called an imbalance in the relationship between cruise lines and the Bahamas. Youre not going to come to this destination and be greedy and get it all for yourself, he said at the time.

So many great options to choose from in the water park!Firstly, I looked everywhere for a better deal than what was given by the carnival cruise for the day pass to the Aquaventure Water Park…Unfortunately there wasn’t many other options. Mostly found on the Andros and Exuma Islands, you will most likely have to take a day tour from Nassau in order to see these graceful creatures.

It is still possible to see the reptiles out in the wild, but you must know where to look with guidance from an experienced tour expert.

Day Trips To The Swimming Pigs Nassau

Take one of our Swimming pigs tours ! The Bahamas Swimming pigs are perhaps the most well-known Bahamas attraction heard about worldwide. Surely, you have seen these cute little pigs in the ocean on Instagram before.

The original pigs in the Bahamas are found on Big Major Cay on Pig Beach. Very few tours will take you to the original spot of the swimming pigs which means they are bringing you to a location where somebody has brought the pigs to an unknown habitat for tourism profit.

To ensure you are taken to the original location, Bahamas Air Tours will fly you to the Staniel Cay airstrip where we will take a short ten-minute boat across the way to Pig Beach. Once there, you will have ample time to play with the Exuma pigs and relax in the sun.

If coming by ferry or speedboat, your time with the pigs will be limited as usually the route via the sea takes over three times longer than the air route.

You can book your day trip from Nassau to Swimming Pigs Bahamas through Bahamas Air Tours today!

Shorex Online Or On Your Own

As most cruise passengers that have booked shore excursions onboard will tell you, the great advantage of doing so is the peace of mind guaranteed by the cruise line. You will not have to look for transportation to Atlantis, negotiate prices with taxi drivers, and when you will be taken back to the ship on time. But you may want to look into other ways of exploring Atlantis.

Taking A Cruise But Want To Go To Atlantis

Atlantis Bahamas Resort. P.2. (Nassau)

my family of four are going to nassau on carnival cruise lines..a shore excursion is very expensive and feel we will come out cheaper getting tickets online.Im just scared if we do this we may miss our ship bc they will not wait on us if we dont book the shore excursion thru them.we get to port at 8 am and leave at 5pm.plz any advice on how we should get there please let me know.

It might be best to book a room at Atlantis or Comfort Suites for one day. No need to stay in the room. Just check in and tell how many ppl are in your party.

Atlantis is VERY strict about giving wristbands to only the amount of people registered to that room.

The latest information is the only way to get on to the property is via the cruise line purchase or booking a room at the resort or Comfort Suites–you can no longer just show up and get tickets. Yes you used to be able to get tickets online or at the resort but not anymore. So check out staying at Comfort Suites as it may be the least expensive option–as poster above said you don’t have to stay there–just go check in and then head to the resort– and get your wrist bands. Just note that the pools don’t open till 10am. Give yourself plenty of time to get back to the cruise line as traffic can be bad–if your cruise leaves at 5 make sure you know the latest you can get back to the ship and leave yourself at least an hour or slightly more.
