The Ngong Ping 360 Cable Car - Travel Tips, Tour Plan

This 25 minute, 5.7 kilometers long Ngong Ping 360 cable car is a visually spectacular bi-cable elevated car. It is one of the longest cableways in Asia. It takes people conveniently from Tung Chung Station near Hong Kong International Airport up to Lantau Peak, and it is quite popular.

It is so popular in fact that lines get so long around lunchtime that it is quicker and perhaps more enjoyable to take a bus or taxi. We at China Highlights want you to enjoy your trip, so our half-day tour plan and information will help you have an optimal experience.

In our Ngong Ping 360 half-day tour plan below, we provide recommendations for riding the cable car including prices and hours, and we give some suggestions about what to see and do on Lantau Peak and travel and transport information.

What is the Ngong Ping 360?

  • Length: 5.7 kilometers (3.5 miles)
  • Altitude: From about 20m (70 ft) to 420m (1380 ft)
  • Duration: 25 minutes
  • Wait time: almost none at opening some mornings. But on busy holidays and weekends, the lines last more than an hour and a half.
  • 2 kinds of cable cars: glass bottomed gondolas (cost a little more, lines are shorter), regular (standard) car

The Ngong Ping 360 Cable Car is popular and provides riders with good high views of the sea north of Lantau Island , the green mountains, Hong Kong International Airport and the small city of Tung Chung. It is one of Lantau Island's prime sightseeing options. It links Tung Chung with Nong Ping Village adjacent to Po Lin Monastery on Lantau Peak.

Lantau Peak is Lantau Island's tallest mountain and the second tallest mountain in Hong Kong. It is noted for the large beautiful country park area that extends from Lantau Peak to around Sunset Peak across the middle of the island. This area is one of the most beautiful parkland areas of Hong Kong with excellent hiking and scenery.

The cable car is good transportation for those who want quick access to the Peak area and the country parks in the mountains.

Road transportation between the populated northern side of Lantau and the middle and southern area of Lantau is somewhat difficult because there is a ban on most private vehicles. The roads through the mountain areas are circuitous and thankfully limited.

It is an ideal transport method especially for pedestrians and hikers.

Our Ngong Ping 360 Half-Day Tour Plan

For an optimal ride and touring experience on Lantau Peak coming in from the Hong Kong mainland or the airport, here are our recommendations about accessing the cable car, getting tickets, when to go and etc. and also suggestions about what to do once you get to the top.

You'll experience Lantau Peak's best scenery, nature, culture and experiences for a varied and enjoyable visit.

Morning Arrival - Going Up

  • Morning: MTR over Tsing Ma Bridge to Tung Chung Station
  • Ngong Ping 360 Cable Car
  • Lantau Peak/Ngong Ping Village/Po Lin Monastery

Go to Tung Chung's Ngong Ping cable car: To start the day optimally, avoid the morning rush hour crowds and traffic. So go after 8:30, and try to be there when it opens around 10 am on weekdays and 9 am on weekends and holidays.

Chinese crowds arrive around 11, and the line can get very long. So to avoid the lines and the pushy crowds, try to be there before the gate opens and definitely avoid the busy holidays and weekends. Try to purchase your tickets directly online or through agents before you go.

Transport: For public transport, we recommend taking the MTR to Tung Chung Station. It will take you about 5 minutes to walk over to the cable car from Exit B. If you take the train, you get the added bonus of going over Tsing Ma Bridge. See the Transport information below.

Transport from the airport: The airport is hundreds of meters away. The simplest way to get there is take a taxi for a few minutes (7 USD). See Transport below for bus transport information. We recommend Ngong Ping 360 as a refreshing break during a Hong Kong stopover .

Our travel advisors can help with tour arrangements and private transport. We could facilitate a tour of Lantau and the region or accommodate you in assisting your Hong Kong visit in other ways according to your plans. We take care of the tickets and transportation.

Get an Octopus card: Hong Kong is fairly unique in the world because you can purchase a card that you can swipe to pay for MTR and bus fares, and it might also be used to pay for many other things such as purchases at supermarkets, convenience stores, and restaurants.

The card allows people to travel without standing in line to buy tickets. Cardholders simply swipe their cards, and their fares are deducted electronically. You can buy these cards at the MTR station ticket windows and then use them to conveniently pay for things all over Hong Kong.

No ID is required to buy one, and you can add money as you wish and return the card to a station window for some money back.

Alternative - Ride It Going Down

For the same views but with much less waiting in line in the mornings and early afternoon, you can go up by another method and then come down on it.

You could get up to Ngong Ping by Bus 23 from Tung Chung MTR in about 47 minutes (about 17 HKD (2 USD) except on Sundays and public holidays 27 HKD), taxi in about 25 minutes (about 5 USD), or by hiking up the Tei Tong Tsai Country Trail in about 2 or 3 hours.

The hiking up option is a good option when the weather is good. The scenery is quite beautiful, and path crosses streams with frogs and little fish. The route starts at Shek Mun Kap Road that is about 2 kilometers south of the Tung Chung MTR Station. You could reach that starting point by walking south on Yu Tung Road or catching a taxi. However, if you are planning to hike on the peaks, it might be better to skip the walk up since peak hikes are strenuous.

What to Do on Lantau Peak?

Tour ngong ping village.

The cable car terminal is in Ngong Ping Village that isn't a real village. It is was built recently as a tourist area and has shops and restaurants. If you are hungry, we recommend Honeymoon Dessert for the novel mango desserts and Thai sticky rice. Other restaurant options include a Subway.

Po Lin Monastery is a 15 minute walk away. You'll find taxis, public bathrooms, and a small bus station in the area.

Bus Transportation: Bus 23 goes to Tung Chung (17 HKD weekdays), and Bus 2 goes to Mui Wo for a ferry back to Central. See the Transport section below. The Pui O/Mui O area is recommended for restaurants and beaches too.

Po Lin Monastery

Po Lin Monastery : It is a Buddhist worship area and tourist area with one of the world's biggest metal Buddhas.

  • Tian Tan Buddha is one of the world's largest seated outdoor bronze Buddha statues.
  • It has a popular vegetarian restaurant.

The Lantau Island and Po Lin Monastery 1-Day Seat-in-Coach Tour is an option.

Climbing the Peaks

Hike up Lantau Peak: If you are fit, from the Po Lim area you could hike up Lantau Peak in about an hour. It is a memorable adventure.

But be careful if it is a rainy since the rocky steps are slick when they are wet. The rocks are also sort of unstable. It is a fairly hard rough stair climb for an hour. The climb up is the most difficult near the top. For more information, see the Lantau Peak section of Lantau Island Hiking Guide .

Hiking the Lower Mountain Areas

Hike lower down: However, you don't need to go all the way to the top to enjoy the scenery on Lantau Peak. You can stop along the way, enjoy the views and turn back.

Alternatively, you can walk the Lantau Trail to Pak Kung Au in about 2 and a half to 3 hours. Pak Kung Au has a little bus station where you can catch the 3M to Pui O and Mui Wo or in the other direction to Tung Chung. Or catch a taxi.

Since you are going downhill to Pak Kung Au, the walk down might not prove strenuous for you. Pak Kung Au is in between Sunset Peak and Lantau Peak.

If you have the energy, you might want to continue on and walk the Lantau Trail up towards Sunset Peak. Depending on your condition, walking a full round trip from Pak Kung Au to the top of Sunset Peak and back down to the road takes about 3 to 5 hours.

The Peaks and Parklands to Explore

Lantau Peak is the second highest summit in Hong Kong with an elevation of 934 meters (3,064 feet). The climb, starting from Po Lin, takes about an hour and a half. It is one of the best spots to catch the sunrise .

Sunset Mountain is the third highest peak in Hong Kong at a height of 869 meters (2,851 feet). From Sunset, you can hike to Mui Wo. The beautiful sunset is the best reward for your effort.

The Lantau Trail

The Lantau Trail traverses Lantau Peak. It circuits through three large country parks, goes over low mountains that you can hike to the top of, and passes by good beaches. It connects with other hiking paths.

Cheungsha Beach is about 2 kilometers long, and it is relative

The Best Time for a Visit

The best time to visit Lantau Peak is from October to December when it is cool and dry. Rainy, cloudy weather usually commences in January. Then clouds and fog might the view.

The summers are beautiful, warm, and sunny, but there are occasional tropical storms.

Travel Essentials for Planning a Trip

The Ngong Ping 360 Tung Chung Station is outside CityGate Outlets Mall and the Tung Chung MTR Station on Lantau, about 20 kilometers (13 miles) due west of Central on Hong Kong Island.

How to Get There

Flights: Hong Kong International Airport (HKG) is a few hundred meters away. It is very convenient for international travelers. Taxis take a few minutes and the fare is about 7 USD. You can also take a bus to the Tung Chung MTR Station area (there are several buses that run every 5 or 10 minutes for about 1.50 USD).

Metro: From Central, you can get on the Tung Chung line in Hong Kong Station below the IFC Mall. The journey takes about 34 minutes and costs about 3.50 USD.

Ferries: A slow ferry service is available between Mui Wo and Central's Pier 6 with a transportation time of about 55 minutes. The cost is 14.5 HKD for regular class. The fast ferry takes about 40 minutes and costs about 29 HKD. Prices are higher on both types of ships on Sundays and public holidays.

We recommend the slow ferry. It takes about an hour, but the excellent scenery and relaxed ride is a good way to rest, unwind, and be refreshed. The fast ferry will get you back in about 40 minutes, but sometimes the ride is so bouncy people get seasickness.

A 24-hour ferry service connects Pier 3 in Central and Discovery Bay. The transportation time is 25 minutes plus about 10 minutes to walk across the pier.

Nearby Attractions

  • Victoria Peak : As the highest peak on Hong Kong Island, it is the best spot to have a bird's-eye view of Victoria Harbour. Half of it is parkland, and the other half is mall. A popular tram can take you to the top.
  • Noah's Ark Resort: It is a family friendly theme park designed after Noah's Ark especially for children. The hotel provides good accommodations, and the restaurant, beach, and park facilities make it a good family resort.
  • Disneyland Hong Kong - Intro, Tips, and Tour Plan (Updated 2019): It is part of the Disney chain of theme parks. It is on the east side of Lantau.

Attractions near Ngong Ping Village

There are lots of things to see around Ngong Ping Village.

The Big Buddha near Ngong Ping 360

You cannot finish your trip to the Ngong Ping village without visiting the Buddha Temple Hong Kong.

It is also popularly known as the Big Buddha or Tian Tan Buddha.

The World’s second-largest outdoor bronze statue of seated Buddha sits on the peak of the Mount Muk Yue and faces North towards the capital of China, Beijing.

From Ngong Ping Village, the Big Buddha Hong Kong is only 10 minutes by walk. It is right next to the Po Lin Monastery.

As you climb the 283 steps to reach the Buddha, you will see breathtaking views of the boundless South China Sea and the terrific scenery surrounding Lantau and the Buddha.

In the three-story exhibition hall inside the pedestal, you will see the holy relics of Buddha.

The Po Lin Monastery facing the iconic Big Buddha in the Ngong Ping Plateau came into being in 1906.

Back then, it was called ‘The Big Thatched Hut.’ It got its current name in 1924.

It is one of the most revered and renowned Buddha establishments in the entire World.

If you are looking for some peace and inner tranquility, this is the place for you.

The Po Lin Monastery is a ten minutes walk from Ngong Ping Village.

If you believe in spirituality and are looking to do some soul searching of your own, make sure to visit the Wisdom Path, located at the foot of the Lantau Peak.

The path is a landscape of 38 wooden columns inscribed with words from Heart Sutra in beautiful calligraphy.

The Heart Sutra is a very popular sutra from the Mahayana Buddhism translated into Chinese by master Sinologist Professor JaoTsung-I.

The Sanskrit title of the Heart Sutra reads “Sāhasrikā-prajñā-pāramitā,” which roughly translates to “The Heart of the Perfection of Wisdom.”

The Sutra is revered all around the World by followers of Buddhism, Taoism, and Confucianism.

It is 20 minutes away from the Ngong Ping Village.

You need to walk to the Ngong Ping Piazza and follow the directions to reach the Wisdom Path.

Tai O Fishing Village is one of the most popular nearby attractions to visit during your trip to Ngong Ping.

It is the oldest fishing village in Lantau and is a fantastic place to enrich your knowledge of the history of Lantau.

To visit Tao O Village, you need to buy the Tai O Pass .

Before the inauguration of Ngong Ping Cable Car in 2006, the Tai O fishing village was not easily accessible.

Now it is easy –

1. Board the Tung Chung Cable Car for a 25-minute ride to Ngong Ping Village

2. Then head to the Ngong Ping Terminus, which is 5-minutes of walking from the Ngong Ping Village.

3. From the Terminal get on to New Lantao Bus #21 for a 20-minute journey to Tai O Bus Terminus

Tai O Boat Excursion

A significant landmark on the main street of Tai O village is the iron footbridge, renovated from a ferry raft.

Select one of the boats anchored under this bridge and start on your 20-minute ride.

As the boat glides its way over the waterways of the fishing village, you get to see Tai O’s stilt houses.

As part of the boat tour, you will also head to the General’s Rock, a seacliff of the North-Western part of Tiger Hill, Lantau and see Tai O Heritage Hotel, which was earlier the fishing village’s police station.

Every visitor to Tai O village goes on this boat excursion (and that’s why it is included in the Tai O Pass )

If you are lucky, you might catch a glimpse of the Chinese White Dolphins as well.

They are beautiful, rare, and most mesmerizing creatures are also known as Chinese pink dolphins because of their unique pink color.

Their presence in the Hong Kong waters dates way back to the 17th century.

The Tai O celebrates the Tai O Deities Parade on the fifth day of the fifth lunar month every year.

It is a centuries-old ritual and is also known as Tai O Dragon Boat Water Parade.

Tai O villagers take deities from their four temples and place the statues on small boats and parade through the waterways.

If you want to be a part Tai O parade, you must plan since it does not happen on the same date each year.

In 2020, the parade will take place on 25th June.

The Ling Yan Abbey stands in the Keung Shan Village in Tai O surrounded by mountains from three sides and covered with lush vegetation.

It is a four-column style building with stone walls and wooden doors.

It is a perfect place for you to experience beauty and calm at the same time – the sound of water from the nearby streams mixed with the Buddhist chants soothe your energies.

The Abbey is also known for its amazing vegetarian meals and is definitely worth the trip.

To reach the Abbey, take the New Lantau Bus #11 from downtown Tan Chung and get down at the Lin Yang Abbey station.

The Abbey is within 10 minutes of walking distance from the station.

View from Ngong Ping 360 Cable Car

During the 25-minute journey, you will enjoy stunning views on all sides of the Cable Car.

We list everything you will see in the order they appear, once you start from Tung Chung Cable Car Terminal.

The moment your Cabin leaves from the Terminal, you see the aerial view of the well-developed new town called Tung Chung.

It used to be known as “Tung Sai Chung” and is a part of the new development project of the Lantau North.

The city is close to the Hong Kong International Airport and therefore a vital passageway to Hong Kong.

You next see the Tung Chung Bay, which with its unique combination of seagrass and wetland is quite a sight.

Tourists often visit the Bay for clam digging and fishing.

Shan Tau wetlands, a site for Special Scientific Interest is also part of this Bay.

If you are lucky, you might even see air crafts flying by you.

The HK International Airport is one of the largest airports in the World and has won the title of the best airport 60 times.

The Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge is a 50 Km (31 Miles) long bridge connecting Lantau, Macau Peninsula and Zhuhai in Guangdong province.

The beautiful bridge in the forefront and the vast ocean and the blue sky as the backdrop makes for stunning visuals.

After the long bridge, you will spot dense vegetation, which is the Lantau North Country Park.

Local hikers love the massive Park (22 sq km / 8.5 sq Miles) for its numerous hiking trails.

Next, you get to witnessNei Lak Shan, Hong Kong’s sixth tallest peak, from your cable car.

Suspended 751 meters above the sea level, you will be having the most unbelievable sights of the entire South China Sea along with the Hong Kong-Macau-Zhuhai bridge in the distance.

If you are lucky and the sky is clear, you might even see Macau from a distance.

As your Ngong Ping 360 cable car nears its destination, you will spot the world-famous Big Buddha.

Mountains surround the 34 meters (112 feet) tall Big Buddha which makes for a beautiful sight just before you touch down.

At the end of the journey, you will spot Ngong Ping village from your cable car.

The Village is one of the most popular destinations for locals as well as tourists because of its beautiful reflection of Ngong Ping’s cultural and spiritual integrity.

Moscow metro tour: architectural styles of the subway.

ping tour bus

Duration: 2 hours

Categories: Culture & History, Sightseeing

This metro tour of Russia’s capital and most populous city, Moscow, is your chance to get a unique insight into the beautiful and impressive architecture of the city's underground stations. Admire their marble walls and high ceilings representing Stalin's desire for glory after World War 2, and see first-hand how the interiors change with the rise of new political eras. Your guide will lead you through the complex network, which is one of the most heavily used rapid transit systems worldwide, with over two billion travelers in 2011.

Opened in 1935, Moscow’s underground system, now 190 miles (305 km) long with 185 stations, is today one the largest and most heavily used rapid transit systems in the world. On this Moscow metro tour, discover the impressive architecture of Moscow’s underground stations and learn how they reflect the Soviet era.

Getting around by metro, your local guide will take you through parts of Moscow’s infamous history. Stop at stations built during the time of the USSR (Soviet Union) that are praised as one of the most extravagant architectural projects from Stalin’s time. After World War 2, he was keen on establishing Stalinist architecture to represent his rising regime and a recognized empire. Learn how when his successor started the de-Stalinization of the former Soviet Union in 1953, the extravagancy of the architecture was toned down.

Discover how the unique character of each station reflected several different eras. While stations like Kievskaya and Slavyansky Bulvar have pompous halls and high stucco ceilings brimming with extravagant decorations, those built later, like Volzhskaya, are lightly adorned with sparse furnishings. Architect Alexey Dushkin and painter Alexander Deyneka were just two of the many artists who made these magnificent landmarks possible.

Revel in Moscow's glory days, as well as the years of scarcity, on this fascinating Moscow metro experience. Conclude your tour at one of the central stations in Moscow. If you're lucky, you may even find the secret entrance to the unconfirmed Metro-2, a parallel underground system used by the government -- a mystery which has neither been denied nor confirmed today.

This is the least confronting of our tour range. Transport used on the trip is either private or a very comfortable public option, the activities included are usually iconic sites and locations that are not all too confronting.

The comforts of your home town and the environment you are used to are more of a rarity. Expect some challenging transport options, visits to local sites and areas that don't resemble anything at home.

To help you choose the trip that's right for you, we've broken all of our trips down into four service levels. Measuring the comfort level of the accommodation and transport. Moscow Metro

The Moscow Metro Tour is included in most guided tours’ itineraries. Opened in 1935, under Stalin’s regime, the metro was not only meant to solve transport problems, but also was hailed as “a people’s palace”. Every station you will see during your Moscow metro tour looks like a palace room. There are bright paintings, mosaics, stained glass, bronze statues… Our Moscow metro tour includes the most impressive stations best architects and designers worked at - Ploshchad Revolutsii, Mayakovskaya, Komsomolskaya, Kievskaya, Novoslobodskaya and some others.

What is the kremlin in russia?

The guide will not only help you navigate the metro, but will also provide you with fascinating background tales for the images you see and a history of each station.

And there some stories to be told during the Moscow metro tour! The deepest station - Park Pobedy - is 84 metres under the ground with the world longest escalator of 140 meters. Parts of the so-called Metro-2, a secret strategic system of underground tunnels, was used for its construction.

During the Second World War the metro itself became a strategic asset: it was turned into the city's biggest bomb-shelter and one of the stations even became a library. 217 children were born here in 1941-1942! The metro is the most effective means of transport in the capital.

There are almost 200 stations 196 at the moment and trains run every 90 seconds! The guide of your Moscow metro tour can explain to you how to buy tickets and find your way if you plan to get around by yourself.

You will be redirected to your dashboard shortly. We will also call you back in 24 hrs .

Fun facts from our Moscow Metro Tours:

From the very first days of its existence, the Moscow Metro was the object of civil defense, used as a bomb shelter, and designed as a defense for a possible attack on the Soviet Union.

At a depth of 50 to 120 meters lies the second, the coded system of Metro-2 of Moscow subway, which is equipped with everything you need, from food storage to the nuclear button.

According to some sources, the total length of Metro-2 reaches over 150 kilometers.

The Museum was opened on Sportivnaya metro station on November 6, 1967. It features the most interesting models of trains and stations.

Coffee Ring

The first scheme of Moscow Metro looked like a bunch of separate lines. Listen to a myth about Joseph Stalin and the main brown line of Moscow Metro.

Zodiac Metro

According to some astrologers, each of the 12 stops of the Moscow Ring Line corresponds to a particular sign of the zodiac and divides the city into astrological sector.

Astrologers believe that being in a particular zadiac sector of Moscow for a long time, you attract certain energy and events into your life.

Paleontological finds

Red marble walls of some of the Metro stations hide in themselves petrified inhabitants of ancient seas. Try and find some!

  • Every day each car in  Moscow metro passes  more than 600 km, which is the distance from Moscow to St. Petersburg.
  • Moscow subway system is the  5th in the intensity  of use (after the subways of Beijing, Tokyo, Seoul and Shanghai).

Ping adds 6 new designs to 2024 putter line: Everything you need to know

Ping is expanding their core putter line in 2024 with 6 new tour-proven models.

With the sustained success of their core putter line , which features classic designs like the Anser and Kushin 4, Ping is adding six new Tour-proven models in 2024, including the Anser D and Fetch.

The technology

The 2024 putters from Ping offer the ideal combination of feel and forgiveness by combining trusted designs with proven technologies to give golfers options ranging from classic blades with milled faces to high MOI mallets with inserts to provide a softer feel at impact.

Beyond options to fit for feel and stroke type, the focus has also been placed on alignment to offer a variety of choices to fit player preference and include single alignment lines, multiple lines, and geometric shaping depending the on model.

“The Ping putter line combines modern design advancements with the proven technologies that have helped Ping set the standard in putter design 65 years ago,” said John K. Solheim, PING CEO and President. “In this line, our engineers took a more individual approach with our most popular models, applying variations of our score-lowering innovations like perimeter weighting and optimized center of gravity placement while further differentiating them through face technology and alignment features.”

To further enhance the appearance, the 2024 Ping putter line also comes in two distinct finishes; a glare-reducing raw blast, and a durable black PVD to create a more striking contrast when addressing the ball.

The 2024 Ping putter models include the Anser 2, Anser D, B60, and Tyne H with shallow milling, along with the Fetch and Ketsch G mallets with a Pebax insert.
