Awesome View! Great way to start our vacay!

The ride up to Ngong Ping Village was about 20mins. And the views of the buildings, water and mountains were so amazing. It was so serene and peaceful! I recommend taking a crystal cabin at least one way to get the full experience!

Good and costly, one side and one time ride only

The ride is awesome, they took photo and created two souvenirs out of it, sadly I didn’t buy because it was overpriced. Overall good ride would recommend only 1 side trip and other side should be from bus.

The Future of Travel and Tourism with 360 Cameras and Video

A technology that’s set to redefine the way we travel is 360 videos with a 360 camera. This powerful tool can capture a full 360-degree view of its surroundings, creating immersive experiences that are revolutionizing the tourism industry.

The travel and tourism industry is one of the most vibrant and dynamic sectors worldwide. It’s always evolving, always innovating. Let’s take a look! 🌎

Here is one of my examples of a 360 video tour when I went to Tokyo, Japan. The best ways to watch these are on a VR headset, but its easy to watch on your phone or computer as well.

360 Videos : The New Travel Brochures

Remember flipping through glossy travel brochures, imagining what it would be like to visit those picturesque destinations? Well, 360 cameras are taking that concept to a whole new level. Travel agencies and tourism boards can use these cameras to create 360 degree virtual tours of destinations, allowing potential tourists to explore cities, landmarks, and natural wonders from the comfort of their homes.

These virtual tours aren’t just panoramic photos; they’re fully immersive experiences. You can “walk” down the streets of a foreign city, “climb” a mountain trail, or “dive” into crystal-clear waters, all through your screen. It’s not just about seeing a destination; it’s about experiencing it.

This is what I do when I shoot with my Insta360 X3 while travelling, so you can see before you go!

Take a look at my article on using Insta360 X3 camera while travelling.

Insta360 X3 360 camera, best travel camera or for shooting 360 tours

360 Hotel Tours: Know Before You Go

Choosing the right accommodation can make or break a vacation. With 360 cameras, hotels and resorts can offer virtual tours of their rooms, facilities, and surroundings. This gives travelers a realistic view of where they’ll be staying, helping them make informed decisions. No more relying on carefully angled photos or vague descriptions; you can see exactly what you’re getting before you book.

I’ll be shooting 360 photos and videos of where I stay when I travel so you can see if you want to book the same location when you travel there.

My article on tips on best ways to watch 360 videos.

360 Experiences: Try Before You Buy

From theme parks to museums, attractions are a big part of travel. But how do you know if an attraction is worth your time and money? Enter 360 cameras. Attractions can use these cameras to create virtual experiences, giving potential visitors a taste of what they can expect. This could include a 360-degree video of a roller coaster ride, a virtual walkthrough of a museum exhibit, or a immersive view of a live performance.

I also have videos of tours and theme parks I have visited while travelling the world so you can check them out before you book.

Here is an example of a 360 tour using 360 photos when I went to Budapest, Hungary.

The Future is Here

360 cameras are not just changing the way we choose our travel destinations; they’re changing the way we experience travel itself. In the future, we might see even more immersive travel experiences, like VR vacations or augmented reality tours.

But even as technology advances, the essence of travel remains the same. It’s about exploration, discovery, and connection. And while a 360-degree video can’t replace the thrill of stepping off a plane into a new city, it can enhance our travel experiences, making them more informed, more immersive, and more exciting.

So next time you’re planning a trip, why not take a virtual tour first? You might be surprised at how close you can get to your dream destination, without even leaving your home.

How to Create a 360 Virtual Tour

tourist info 360

Creating a 360 virtual tour is a simple yet powerful step towards enhancing your business or selling a home.

In this guide, we will explore the benefits of 360 virtual tours, discuss the importance of staging, and provide step-by-step instructions on how to create impressive virtual tours. Whether you are a real estate agency or an entrepreneur looking for a lucrative business opportunity, this guide will equip you with the knowledge you need to leverage the potential of 360 virtual tours.

To further enhance your understanding and expertise in the world of creating 360 virtual tours, it is highly recommended to delve into a wealth of knowledge available on this subject. By exploring these topics below, you can gain valuable insights and acquire the skills necessary to take your virtual tours to the next level.

tourist info 360

Benefits of 360 Virtual Tours

Let's explore the key advantages:

Enhanced Visual Experience:

360 virtual tours provide an immersive and interactive visual experience, allowing potential buyers or clients to explore properties or businesses from the comfort of their homes.

Broadened Reach:

With virtual tours, you can attract long-distance buyers or clients who may find it challenging to visit properties in person. This expands your reach and saves time by narrowing down potential leads to those genuinely interested.

Time and Cost Savings:

Virtual tours eliminate the need for numerous in-person property visits, saving both real estate agents and potential buyers valuable time and resources. It streamlines the process and allows you to focus on more qualified leads.

Staging Homes for Success:

What is the role of staging in creating a compelling virtual tour? Staging plays a crucial role in making properties look visually appealing and inviting to potential buyers.

tourist info 360

How to Stage a Home?

Before showing a home in any capacity whether in-person or a 360 virtual tour it is important to take several aspects into account. Cleaning is the easiest way to achieve a more visually pleasing space. Furnishing and remodeling can be expensive, but decluttering and clearing the space is a free option; a simple step towards reaching buyers.

Here's how to stage a home effectively:

A visually pleasing space starts with thorough cleaning. Decluttering and clearing the space are cost-effective options that instantly enhance the visual appeal. For those wanting to spend more money on staging, an option is to hire an interior designer and refurnish.

Furniture and Design:

Consider hiring an interior designer who specializes in home staging, or take a DIY approach by arranging furniture in a way that creates a sense of space and allows potential buyers to envision themselves living in the home. When doing so, the goal is not to make the home personalized. The purpose of design is to impact potential buyers or to create space buyers see themselves living. An interior designer specializes in home staging, however, staging can be done easily for free.

Creating a 360 Virtual Tour

360 virtual tours are easy to create and extremely beneficial in selling a home or property. Learning how to create a 360 virtual tour not only enhances the likelihood of selling a home but can make you a unique asset. How can you create a captivating 360 virtual tour? Follow these steps:

The first and most significant step is staging the home. When doing so, make sure to declutter and clean. Take care of any noticeable flaws such as painting and fixing any damage. Right before creating the tour, double-check that everything is in place, all drawers are closed, and nothing is left on the floors.

Lighting makes all the difference when creating the most successful and aesthetically pleasing virtual tour. Before capturing the panorama, turn all the lights on in the home. Make sure to take advantage of natural lighting as well; natural lighting is perfect in creating a bright and inviting home. Walk through the home and open all the blinds to access as much natural light as possible.

Place a 360 Camera on a 360 panoramic camera stand. When placing the camera on the stand make sure the camera is firmly screwed in and the camera stand is stable. A great 360 camera for creating 360 tours is a 360 Insta 1x camera. The 1x is the older model, the newer models may have better features depending on budget.

Camera placement is crucial for the outcome. The rule of thumb is to set the camera stand to 5 ft. If the camera stand is too high or too low the shot will not be ideal. The camera must also be placed at the same height for every shot, including other rooms in the tour. Make sure to always place the camera in the center of the room for the best results.

Check camera settings, every camera is different, but the goal is to make sure the camera settings are on panorama so that the camera takes a shot of the whole room. On the 360 Insta camera, the setting will be called “optimal 360 tours.” Most cameras will have the option to delay the camera from capturing the panorama, use that setting to make sure there is time to exit the room.

How to Create a 360 Virtual Tour from your Phone

Creating a professional virtual tour does not require expensive equipment or hardware. Like most things, creating a 3D virtual tour can be done on a phone. With a simple app download, selling a home can be made quicker and easier.

The CloudPano mobile app is free to download and intuitive for users. Utilizing the app makes creating a 3D virtual tour accessible, without having to buy a 360 camera or a camera stand.

How to Create a 360 Virtual Tour with CloudPano App:

Download the CloudPano app.

If further instruction is needed the top right corner of the app has step-by-step directions on how to use the app. The app is very simple to use, and with practice, great results will follow.

When creating a 360 virtual tour on the app the camera must be vertical, fortunately, the app will notify if the camera is not vertical. Similar to using a camera and camera stand, it is best to aim for the same height in every room. Again, the rule of thumb is 5ft. The best way to achieve consistent height is by creating a reference point such as shoulder height.

The fourth step is fairly simple, just tap anywhere to start.

Take notice of the Yin and Yang symbol. The Yin and Yang should be separated, Slowly turn the camera, until the Yin and Yang are connected. Pause briefly once the Yin and Yang meet then continue turning until the whole room is captured. On another note, there is a light that will turn green if everything is running smoothly.

The panorama will automatically save to your camera roll and move on to the next room until complete.

Looking for a new travel camera? Get epic shots with a 360 action camera

Nov 24, 2020 • 5 min read

An invisible selfie stick can make any shot look epic

Using a 360-degree camera for your action footage can make for some epic travel videos © Courtesy Insta360

Provided by

The right travel camera can make any trip look amazing, whether you’re just taking a weekend trip close to home or checking an international destination off your bucket list. That’s what a 360 camera can deliver.

Check out this video shot by video creator Kyler Holland of his road trip to Utah using the new Insta360 ONE X2 camera. From one-wheeling down mountainous roads to rafting, it’s loads of fun and all shot on a 360 camera.

A 360 camera might seem excessive if you’re not planning to share 360-degree content. But there are a lot of hidden benefits to a 360 action camera compared to a standard action camera or digital camera. Here’s why you should consider picking one up for your next trip.

Shoot first, point later

The best thing about a 360 camera is that you don’t have to point the camera when you’re shooting. Since the camera captures in 360 degrees all around you, everything is caught on camera—no matter what. You never have to worry about whether you caught a special moment of your travels on camera.

You don’t actually have to use a 360 camera to shoot 360-degree content. When you’re settling down at the end of the day, you can “reframe” the video to focus on whatever you want to show. Just swipe around the 360 footage on your phone until you find the best angle and export the video to fit any social media platform.

The Insta360 app makes reframing even easier with “Auto Frame”. This AI algorithm analyzes your footage for you and provides you with a collection of the best angles. Just pick the one you like best and you’re done.

The invisible selfie stick

The most fun part about a 360 camera is hands-down the Invisible Selfie Stick feature. Selfie sticks might get a bad rep, but an invisible one can make any shot look epic.

How does it work? Because a 360 camera has two lenses, the selfie stick falls in the blind spot between them, making the selfie stick appear invisible in your final footage. There aren’t any magic tricks to making it disappear—just shoot with it like you would any other selfie stick. The selfie stick will automatically appear invisible when you look at your footage later.

The result? Mind-blowing aerial and third-person perspectives that look like they were shot on a drone. For solo travelers, it’s like your own personal cameraman. Never worry about asking someone for a photo again.

360_camera_2_Selfie_Stick.jpg

Unreal stabilization

Most 360 cameras also have advanced electronic image stabilization to keep your videos super steady. 360 cameras often have even better stabilization than many action cameras, because the wider field of view provides more room to stabilize the footage without cropping or losing image quality.

Heading skiing or snowboarding? Just mount the camera to your helmet or on your backpack with the selfie stick. Taking a long bike ride or motorcycle ride? Mount it to your helmet or the handlebars. Even if you’re just walking or hiking, image stabilization will make your shots look super smooth. No extra gimbals or other equipment needed.

Not only do 360 cameras correct shaky camera movements, they also correct unwanted rotations as well. Even if you turn the camera completely upside down, the video will stay upright the whole time with a level horizon.

What to look for in a 360 travel camera

So how do you pick the best 360 camera? Here are a few things to look for when you’re shopping around.

Portability Like any kind of travel gear, portability is of the essence in a travel camera. Look for a 360 camera that you can hold comfortably in your hand and slip easily in your pocket, like the Insta360 ONE X2.

Durability Most 360 cameras have two circular lenses on either side of the camera body, which might give you some anxiety about keeping the camera safe while traveling. But these cameras can be tougher than they look.

Insta360 ONE X2 is waterproof to 10 meters, with no exterior case needed. Perfect for a day at the lake, rafting down the river, or even surfing at the beach. There are also lens protectors available to keep the lenses protected while you’re on the go, or a dive case for capturing underwater content. It also boosts a high-performance battery to keep you shooting all day long.

360_camera_4_Waterproof.jpg

The companion app

The last thing you might want to do after a long day of traveling is sift through all of your footage and edit it before you can share it. A clunky, frustrating editing workflow can really turn a great day into a bad one.

The Insta360 app is packed with AI editing features to make editing easier than ever. Want to just tap once and be done? Look no further than the app’s Shot Lab, which hosts a collection of one-tap templates using the latest and greatest editing techniques. All you need to do is import your footage and then Shot Lab turns it into something epic. And it’s continuously updated with new templates all the time to keep your edits fresh.

Dolly Zoom and Stop Motion templates make cinematic effects as easy as a tap. You can even clone your body with templates like Clone Trail. Or tired of people blocking your shot in crowded tourist traps? The Ghost Town template will take your 360 timelapse and remove the people from it, outputting an unobstructed photo.

It’s all super easy and makes editing super fast when you’re on the go. With a camera like Insta360 ONE X2 , you can let the camera do the work and you can just focus on having fun.

Lessons from tourism economies that serve the community

Tourism revenue doesn’t always benefit the local people and economy. It’s time to change that.

Tourism development should serve the community and not just travellers. https://www.flickr.com/photos/shankaronline/7395438912?fbclid=IwAR2t7lAZ8Vp2Ybe_AzH1y6DguJtjSF2UgWtUID7KfZhrp88543yaBrrK1ts : shankar s./Flickr CC BY 2.0

Tourism looks to be back with a vengeance this year. International arrivals will reach about 70 percent of the pre-pandemic level and some places are even struggling with the increased demands. But it wasn’t long ago global organisations advocated for financial support and suggested the crisis was an opportunity to rethink tourism — to make the industry stronger, more sustainable and more resilient in the aftermath.

As tourism emerges out of the pandemic, we should reconsider how to make the sector more responsible toward the people it affects. Unchecked tourism development and overtourism are likely to return to pre-pandemic levels unless regulations are put in place.

If tourism wants to develop in a manner that pays back to the community, lessons are already available from many places around the world. Applying a tourist tax is just one of several ways to rebuild the industry for the better.

For example, Bhutan’s “High value, low volume” tourism development strategy required tourists to fork out at least US$200 a day through its Minimum Daily Package Rate before the pandemic. Of that sum, $US65 was for a sustainable development fee, while the rest was for services provided by the tour operator, including accommodation and meals.

The industry is now going through a “ reset ” as it emerges from the pandemic. The sustainable development fee is now US$200 and the daily package rate has been abolished. Visitors will still need to use the services of a tour operator to enter the country but now these operators can decide on what to charge for their services, on top of accommodation, meals and administration. Revenue from the fees will be used to care for the environment, improve infrastructure, provide training to employees in the industry and improve services.

In Singapore, the tourism board receives government support, but its main source of funding is through a 3 percent tax charged directly to guests staying at hotels. Being well-funded, the tourism board not only works on attracting visitors, but also oversees the development of attractions, infrastructure and amenities. All of which also serve the community and not just tourists. These include festive lighting in popular tourist spots as well as rebranding and marketing local neighbourhoods.

Many tourist products often support nation-building messages , contribute to local cultural development and engage with community groups. For instance, the tourism board was central in the renewal of Singapore’s ethnic enclaves — Chinatown, Little India and Geylang Serai. These places became accepted as authentically Singaporean by residents as a result, in line with the government’s multicultural social engineering program. While there are criticisms of the touristification of Singapore — in terms of its culture and heritage — tourism itself has now become a part of Singaporean culture.

In many countries, the attempt at finding balanced tourism development for residents and travellers is thwarted by different stakeholders and their vested interests.

For instance, a city and a village should have different tourism development strategies due to their different demographics and interests. Developments that attract a larger pool of interest can destroy the character and fabric of the destination. You can see this in ‘over developed’ spots such as Bali’s Kuta Beach, Indonesia, or Las Vegas, United States where local members of the community are not often consulted.

Many residents who are not working in the industry may not feel they benefit from the visitor economy. They may also experience the inconveniences , and become an unwilling part of the tourism destination product as they suffer from overcrowding, inflation and less affordable housing. For instance, in Lombok Island , Indonesia, many residents have less access to water, sanitation and hygiene than tourists.

Tourism development plans should evaluate new attractions and consider whether they are something the community needs first. The community is the host to visitors, they are part of the tourist experience. Which is why it’s crucial to consult them and gain their support for the industry to become socially sustainable. Currently, it’s more common for community groups to approach tourism businesses for support. This can lead to local groups lacking bargaining power and becoming disenfranchised. Protesting residents will not make visitors feel welcome, for example.

Many big hotels, as part of their corporate social responsibility, voluntarily give back to community projects such as sponsoring events at a local sports club. The challenge is corporate social responsibility-washing  — good deeds that are used to improve reputation for marketing purposes rather than altruistically serving the community.

But community-serving demands can be placed on major tourism projects when there is political will. For the Olympic games, for instance, bidding cities must show that their games will bring a lasting legacy to the community. The games should not just be a vanity, profit-driven project.

Tourist developments, like mega shopping centres and big resorts, can be required to provide permanent art spaces for local artists, take on the responsibility of maintaining a natural park or support the running of a cultural institution. In this way, these tourism businesses can be shown to be contributing directly to the community. Bigger developments should not only consider the community, they will contribute directly to society, despite the added costs that could incur.

At the height of the pandemic, tourism-dependent communities rallied around local tourism and hospitality businesses. But such strong community support for the industry is not limitless. Which is why post-pandemic tourism should aim to be sustainable for host communities. As society changes, so can an industry. And there’s no better time to start.

EXPERIENCES TO BE LIVED

tourist info 360

How many times have you yearned to enjoy a fully relaxing holiday, to contemplate a beautiful landscape while breathing in clean air and sipping a good glass of Etna DOC?

To stroll through a piazza with open-air bars and get lost in a maze of narrow streets, with your nose in the air, wandering between flowery windowsills and bell towers, noble palaces and rounded balconies, peering into courtyards?

Dreams and desires can come true: it’s time to visit Sicily’s beautiful villages.

These small towns by the sea, surrounded by greenery, nestled in the hinterland or perched on the mountains will offer you what you are looking for, with small curiosities and new discoveries, such as houses carved out of the rock that were inhabited until the last century, or the most famous film set of all time.

In each of the nine Sicilian provinces, you will find the right village for you and, nearby, many other places that may be less renowned but will remain forever in your heart.

These people-friendly places and holidays can be experienced in company and in safety, where the watchword is “unspoiled”, just like your chosen village.

Unmissable flavors

The flavours, shapes, scents and colours of Sicilian food have become symbols of overwhelming pleasure all over the world.

The outstanding desserts include cannolo   and cassata , which bring out the freshness and authenticity of local ricotta. Granita , which does not include ice here, reveals itself in all its creaminess. It can be difficult to choose between the many flavours and it is so delicious it can even give the best homemade ice cream a run for its money. Never alone: it should be accompanied by an aromatic hot brioche , and strictly with a “tuppo” (nobble).

Almonds , another of the island’s points of pride, are used to make the paste that is often chosen as a sweet souvenir by those visiting a distant friend. It is also the basis for a thirst-quenching and sumptuous milk and the choreographic creations of martorana fruit , which add life to the windows of the pastry shops and amuse tourists and passers-by.

In Sicily there are many delicacies rooted in tradition and faith , which become beloved symbols before they being consumed.

Bridging sweet and savoury, the juiciest red oranges  come from the countryside most beloved by the sun, while the most famous pistachios , those from Bronte, now dominate the culinary scene thanks to their gastronomic flexibility, which ranges from their use as sweet cream in desserts to the intense pestos that bring together ancient grains [link to Sicilian Ancient Grains] in the form of inimitable first courses.

A treasure trove of flavours: from Bronte’s green gold to the finest red gold , Saffron , which seduces the palate and inspires you to dream. And digging in the undergrowth, precious jewels and nuggets emerge: mushrooms and truffles .

An icon of Sicilianness, arancin*  has a name that divides people but its taste brings everyone together: it is a rice-based wonder, an essential fried delicacy and the pinnacle of Sicilian street food .

Sicily is the cradle of the Mediterranean diet , which has always been the healthiest and most varied approach to food. It also brings out the best of fish and vegetables through caponata and parmigiana , as well as pickles and infinite speciality dishes, in which the Pachino tomato reigns supreme .

In Sicily, the dinner table becomes a “stage” for exhilarating flavours: one case in point is pasta alla Norma , made with tomato sauce and fried aubergines, and so named because it is considered sublime like the work of the same name by the “Swan”, the composer Vincenzo Bellini.

Meat from historic farms, such as the Nebrodi black pig, rounds off rich and surprisingly impeccable menus.

The price of Sicilian wines is rising rapidly, as the product becomes increasingly sincere, intoxicating and versatile. It serves as an invitation to savour this island in small sips, with a glass in your hand and lightness in your heart.

Walking along the nostalgic paths of taste  you will find that even dipping bread in oil  proves why you will never have enough of Sicily.

Visiting the local markets will be the best way to deeply discover the tasty, spicy and most authentic flavours of Sicilian street food. Sicilian street food is among the most celebrated, and its main symbol is the arancin * of contention, which is loved and appreciated all over the world.

Sicily is the cradle of the Mediterranean diet and will surprise you witha thousand combinations of poor ingredients that enrich vegetarian menus.

And if you are wondering whether Sicily is the right destination for you, you will find the answer in a glass of local wine .

Discover all the flavours of your happy island.

Traveling you learn

In Sicily, you can visit the majestic volcano Etna , the Valley of the Temples , the Greek Theatre of Taormina and the one of Syracuse . You can learn more about Quasimodo, Verga, Il Gattopardo and the Rape of Persephone . Close your geography, science and art history books. Forget everything you learned at school and get ready to live a new experience.

You can follow the verses and passages of the greatest writers in world literature, from Sciascia to Camilleri, from Tomasi di Lampedusa to Pirandello . Travel along the literary routes that will lead you to discover an unusual side of Sicily.

Discover the roots of the fascinating myths and legends . These stories take inspiration from an extraordinary nature whose shapes and colours influenced the course of history itself. All tales reveal one truth: Sicily has always been a place loved by the Gods .

Travelling through Sicily, you can learn what rare botanical wonders live around the island. You can visit corners of paradise such as the Bioparco di Sicilia , or you can choose to follow the footsteps of Charles V around Sicily’s most beautiful cities . Spend some time watching hundreds of colourful kites soar through the sky, then taste and discover the history of real Aztec chocolate .

Travelling is the best way to learn something new and unique about Sicily.

Tourism Commitment

There are stories of men , perspectives, voices and hands that come together and, with commitment, give life to new hopes. They are the symbols of a Sicily that rises from its ashes.

Discover the Sicily that doesn’t give up.

The part of Sicily that does not want to be forgotten creates memorials. Palermo Ecomuseum promotes projects related to shared social responsibility, participatory care of the territory and sustainable tourism. The local community plans cultural, touristic and educational initiatives.

A terrible earthquake destroyed the town of Gibellina . Today its existence echoes through the work of its rebirth: Burri’s Cretto . There is a part of Sicily that shouldn’t be forgotten and abandoned. In Favara , from the greyness of a neighbourhood destined to decay, Florinda and Antonio created the Farm Cultural Park . Today it is one of the world’s most vibrant cultural centres. With Fiumara d’Arte, Antonio Presti has proclaimed the salvific power of beauty, creating one of the largest and most evocative land art parks in Europe. The inhabitants of the small and enchanting Borgo Parrini transformed the town into one of the most evocative places on the island, a virtuous example of urban regeneration.

There is another part of Sicily that does not surrender to fate. It pursues its dreams and reaches for the stars. One example is the shepherd poet Lorenzo Reina , who shapes the Andromeda Theatre in Santo Stefano Quisquina with his bare hands.

We cannot mention the part of Sicily that does not surrender to the Mafia . With infinite gratitude for the men who gave their lives to protect their land, it keeps their memory alive and educates the new generations to fight with messages of peace.

Discover the beautiful stories that Sicily has to tell. Prepare yourself for an exciting journey that will enrich your soul: this is what committed tourism is all about.

Sicily is the perfect and unique destination for those who want to spend a holiday surrounded by art, history and culture.

Let’s discover the cities and small towns of Sicily. Noto is the capital of Sicilian Baroque. In Caltagirone , we will be surprised by the blaze of colours of its ceramics. Syracuse is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and a walk through its streets will take you back in time. In Modica , the Duomo di San Giorgio’s great beauty (the Baroque icon in Sicily) will leave you speechless. In Marsala , you can admire the most beautiful sunset in the world, which makes the atmosphere of the Stagnone surreal. We then arrive in Piana degli Albanesi , a tiny Albania in the heart of Sicily, ready to welcome you with its lake teeming with life.

You will get to know such a wide and varied territory that you may wonder whether you are still in the same Region. Sicily seems to be the gateway to another dimension. Heaven and hell make peace in the Etnean landscape. Gods and nymphs weave love stories, unbridled passions and jealousies through forests, rivers and springs. But don’t forget to visit the smaller islands.

In Lipari , you can taste the worldwide famous Malvasia. Panarea is the most exclusive and popular destination. You can explore the Island of Alicudi on the back of a donkey. Don’t miss visiting the characteristic Island of Vulcano , renowned for its mud baths. Stromboli is pyrotechnical, while, in Salina , you can see the home of the poet Neruda, set of Massimo Troisi’s unforgettable movie “ Il Postino ”.

Then there are the Egadi Islands , Pantelleria , Ustica , Linosa and Lampedusa . They are all surrounded by a wonderful sea, and each Island has its palette of reflections, from deep blue to the turquoise sky. You will be completely captivated by the colours and atmosphere of these places.

There is too much to see, and it is hard to choose where to start. Do not waste time then: get ready to go. Sicily is waiting for you!

Spirituality

There is increasing demand for holidays that take us away from crowded places and daily stress, where the body and mind can find rest and meditation.

Excursions lead us to places where nature and silence reign, with monasteries, hermitages and shrines where it is possible to find religious devotion by retracing the paths of Saints and beatified people, as well as a secular moment of serenity.

The Sacred Paths are routes that have been travelled by pilgrims since ancient times, and have now become itineraries with great attraction for tourists. Some are a few dozen kilometres long, others hundreds. Discover the itineraries along the ancient roads of the Via Francigena or along the most beaten religious paths, and get ready to walk through the most enchanting places in Sicily.

Sicily is ready to offer an interesting network of religious routes that allow you to discover bright gems that are still little known, alone or with the help of local nature associations.

Spa and Wellness

Sicily offers a wide range of natural treatments to regenerate the body and mind.

If relaxation, sensory well-being and immersive pleasure are your top travel priorities, when you visit Sicily, you will discover that it is an amazing open-air spa .

It is not a matter of destination or length of your holiday: you will find out that the simplest and most natural things have extraordinary power over your health.

Breathe deeply and find your balance using the wisdom of the centuries-old forests and the energy of the frozen waterfalls . Surround yourself with sunshine and beauty. Relax on the salt crust in the unique setting of the Stagnone . Explore and rest in the natural caves , places of the Gods in the minor islands .

To treat yourself to some relaxation, spend a day in Vulcano’s mud baths . They are a true elixir of life. The thermal waters scattered throughout Sicily supply some of the best facilities in Italy .

Let your wellness journey begin. You deserve the best: you deserve Sicily.

Sea in Sicily

A quick look at the beaches, lidos and coves on the wonderful Sicily sea, with surprising transparency and richness of colours.

We’ll start from the coast on the south of this incredible island, going from Capo Passero in Syracuse to Capo Granitola in Trapani , which proudly reveals its golden sand with an exotic flair.

Marina di Ragusa, Pozzallo, Punta Secca in the territory of Ragusa , the Torre Salsa Reserve near Sciacca, the island of Lampedusa and the Scala dei Turchi in Agrigento have very long beaches that are usually not crowded, and which blend the “off-grid” harmony and relaxation we all seek.

This sandy coast extends to Mazara del Vallo and Marsala and continues with the Via del Sale, the Stagnone Reserve and Mozia in Trapani . Here we find out how salt is produced in the museums dedicated to it. Riserva dello Zingaro and the white, fine sandy beach of San Vito lo Capoe need no introduction and open up to the Tyrrhenian coast, characterised by a succession of beaches and cliffs.

The island of Ustica , Cefalù and Mondello in the Palermo area, the Aeolian Islands , Capo d’Orlando and Tindari in the province of Messina and the Egadi Islands in the Trapani region all overlook the Tyrrhenian Sea, where the blue of the sea is intense and snorkelling is very enjoyable.

The eastern coast starts after Messina with the lava rocks and pebble beaches of Taormina and Giardini Naxos, the Acireale Timpa Nature Reserve and the cliffs of Aci Trezza. The sand then returns in the Gulf of Catania , Syracuse , the Vendicari Reserve , going up to Marzamemi and the Isola delle Correnti, the precise point where the Ionian Sea and the Mediterranean Sea meet.

Also discover the child-friendly beaches and those that have been awarded the blue flag in 2023 !

The climate and landscapes allow you to pursue many outdoor sports activities in Sicily, combining wellness and fun: you will be spoilt for choice.

If you love the sea, you can dive and snorkel, experiencing the thrill of contact with the most awe-inspiring fauna and flora and discovering the “Divers’ paradise” on the bottom of Ustica, in the heart of Italy’s first marine reserve. You will behold images and colour combinations that you thought were pure science fiction with your own eyes.

On the surface, however, the sea works together with the wind to playfully push you towards kitesurfing: try it in the beautiful setting of Stagnone in Marsala!

The Sicilian natural scenery offers an original and fully comprehensive solutions for any level of fatigue, for all ages and for previous background of physical activity, from those who want to get fit to those who want to push their limits. Choose between a walk with your children   and the extremes of climbing and ski mountaineering. There are challenges with a very wide range of difficulty levels, from golf, which you can play in both the west and east of Sicily, to a highly evocative bike trip, from a day spent feeling truly free on a sailing boat to a horseback ride on Etna or crossing the Argimusco.

The hinterland of Sicily is the heart of the island, it is a little-known area. Here time flows naturally, and the contact with the locals is wonderful. It is a land rich in cultural expressions, millenary traditions, archaeological, architectural and naturalistic treasures. Many places make you want to stay forever.

Let’s discover the slopes of Mount Etna or the Simeto Nature Reserve : this area is rich in lava caves, waterfalls, rapids and small lakes. The Piana degli Albanesi Lake , on the other hand, is an area teeming with life. From the Bosco Della Ficuzza , we find ourselves in the heart of the Parco delle Madonie , dotted with small towns where time flows slowly and quietly.

Enna is the highest town in Italy, and from here you can enjoy a panoramic view over the whole island. Caltanissetta has a historical centre full of Renaissance and Baroque monuments.

Sutera is one of the most beautiful villages in Italy. The Teatro di Andromeda in Santo Stefano Quisquina is a magical place surrounded by the pastoral landscape of the Monti Sicani .

Despite being in the centre of Sicily, far from the coast, you can enjoy the incredible and unique view of the Aeolian Islands . You will feel like you have just completed a journey into the most unusual and authentic Sicily.

Families and Children

Sicily is the perfect place to spend a carefree and fun holiday with your family and children.

Here you can travel and walk with children in total comfort and safety , discovering beautiful and unexpected natural settings . You can travel on foot, by bicycle or on the back of friendly donkeys . There are many ways to discover a land rich in hidden treasures, observing fauna and flora of rare beauty.

We recommend the best beaches to enjoy the wonderful Sicilian sea and spend your days among sandcastles, velvet seabeds and curious little fish. If you are lucky enough, you may even see a specimen of Caretta Caretta turtle !

In the Valley of the Temples , children can become budding archaeologists. They will be provided with the right equipment and guided by experts in discovering ancient remains. The Ludum is the first science museum in Sicily where you can learn what laws regulate the Universe.

You can discover the rare botanical wonders hidden around the island together with your family. You can visit corners of paradise such as the Bioparco di Sicilia . Or you can test your courage in the Adventure Parks , suspended in the air amidst the greenery.

Another unforgettable experience is driving along the writers’ road . Follow in the footsteps of Charles V on a historical route. Have fun with the children by flying colourful kites and tasting Aztec chocolate . Be inspired and choose the experience that perfectly suits you and your family.

Art and Culture

Some treasures do not need to be touched to perceive their rarity. However, in this triangular and evocative region, you will constantly come across the signs left by history, the passage of man and his creativity.

Get ready to discover how Sicily can amaze you. Sicily will surprise you when you least expect it. As you stroll along the streets, you will come across the works of contemporary street art : it is intense, immediate and universal. Looking out, over the infinity of the Sicilian hinterland, from the Andromeda Theatre, you will see a mystical and ancestral place. You will feel like floating in sidereal space. You have the chance to visit artisan’s workshops , guardians of traditions handed down from father to son.

Some customs are very ancient, such as the working of obsidian or the unique and precious Mediterranean coral . These traditions keep alive arts and knowledge of inestimable value, they are World Heritage Site. This heritage also includes the Sicilian puppets , protagonists of the Opera dei Pupi . Or the art of dry stone walls that embellish landscapes with their ancient beauty.

And what about archaeological sites ? Of Sicily’s 7 UNESCO sites , some are among the most beautiful archaeological sites of all time. Examples, Pantalica , the Valley of the Temples  and the magnificent Theatre of Taormina . They all bear witness to a glorious past in bright colours just waiting to be discovered. In Sicily, you will find countless places of culture , beautiful theatres and museums, artistic routes and endless opportunities to breathe in art en plein air. You will cherish this journey in the depths of your heart, along with your most precious memories.

Tourist scam alert: Miami Beach police nab alleged serial fraudster targeting vacationers

Ryan Mackey , Digital Journalist

MIAMI BEACH, Fla. – Under the glittering allure of Miami Beach’s shores, an unsuspecting tourist found herself ensnared in a web of deceit spun by a fraudster earlier this year, according to police.

While sitting near the 700 block of Miami Beach around 5 p.m. Jan 15, police said the victim was reading her book, at which time James Jayson Plitsas, 25, of Miami, and an unidentified male approached her, claiming to be club promoters who could grant her entry into any nightclub in the area.

Following a brief conversation, Plitsas asked the victim for her cellphone under the guise of adding his Instagram page to her account to send nightclub flyers, according to an arrest report.

The victim willingly handed over her unlocked cellphone for this sole purpose. However, during this exchange, Plitsas and his accomplice continued to engage with her while his accomplice took possession of the victim’s phone to add his Instagram page as well, the report stated.

After a short period, police said the victim became suspicious that both individuals were attempting to distract her while Plitsas’ accomplice still had possession of her phone.

After being asked about the phone, the accomplice claimed he was simply following people and returned the phone to her after a minute before promptly leaving the area, the report stated.

Police said the victim checked her email and discovered a notification from her bank indicating that a new payee had been added to her Zelle via her Chase account a minute earlier. Suspecting unauthorized access, she contacted her bank, which later confirmed someone had gained access to her Chase Bank application and changed the password, subsequently conducting a $1,500 Zelle transfer.

Miami Beach detectives later identified Plitsas as the suspect, according to the report.

Police said a photographic lineup was also presented to the victim by detectives on March 28, and she identified Plitsas as one of the subjects involved.

Further investigations revealed that Plitsas had been previously arrested for two similar crimes in Miami Beach, where police say he targeted unsuspecting victims on the beach, posing as a club promoter and conducting unauthorized financial transactions through victim’s cellphones, resulting in financial losses of $1,500 and $3,500.

Investigators confirmed all victims in these cases were tourists visiting Miami Beach.

Jail records show Plitsas is facing one count each of organized scheme to defraud and third-degree grand theft.

As of Friday, he was being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, where his bond has not been determined due to a Nebbia hold for a previous charge.

Anyone who feels they may have been a victim of Plitsas is urged to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-8477.

When an Editor’s Job Is to Follow the Moon

As North America prepares for the total solar eclipse on April 8, Michael Roston, an editor on the Health and Science desk, prepares The Times.

  • Share full article

An illustration of people in a shadowed path on Earth’s surface, representing the total solar eclipse’s path of totality. The people use telescopes and protective glasses to look toward the sky.

By Emmett Lindner

On April 8, millions of people will look toward the sky for the total solar eclipse, the first to be visible in North America since 2017. The moon will cross directly in front of the sun, blocking light and casting a shadow on Earth as it makes its journey north from Mexico, over the United States and into Canada. For the more than 30 million people who live inside the path of totality — and the many more who are traveling to optimal viewing spots — daylight will momentarily disappear. In other areas, it will dim.

It will be the last time a total solar eclipse will be visible in most of North America for 20 years.

To cover a spectacle with such a wide scope, reporters across The New York Times banded together. Journalists from different desks, including Science, Weather Data, National and Travel, have written about what to expect ; the importance of protective gear for safe viewing; the cloud forecast ; and how different U.S. towns have prepared for large swaths of spectators .

The Times’s effort is largely coordinated by Michael Roston, a senior editor on the Health and Science desk. Over the past few months, he has assigned and edited numerous articles about the event, hosted brainstorming meetings and ensured The Times has been producing a robust collection of content.

On the day of the eclipse, Mr. Roston and other editors will lead 30 journalists reporting on the event for The Times’s live blog. In an interview, he discussed how The Times covers the moon … covering the sun. This interview has been edited and condensed.

How did you formulate The Times’s coverage plan?

Fortunately, this isn’t my first time with an eclipse. This will be the third time I’ve worked with reporters from the approximate beginning to end of an eclipse, and I’ve worked on a couple of other solar eclipse events that were a bit more mild mannered and didn’t require as much coordination.

You have some muscle memory. One of the most important things is to think, What is it that the readers want? We want to have an understanding of what they need and what they’re asking. That’s why we foreground some things, like a weather map. For the August 2017 eclipse, the weather, for the most part, was pretty good. In April, you’re more likely to have cloudy skies, which is why we’ve been reporting on visibility and the cloud cover forecast.

We also understand that there are people who just want to understand where the eclipse is. So we presented a pretty simple, straightforward map.

After an eclipse, a lot of people will say, “I missed this,” or “When can I see it next?” We asked a Graphics editor to produce something that gives you several eclipses into the future that people actually have a prayer of seeing.

How do you coordinate the efforts of reporters in the United States, Canada and Mexico?

I spent a lot of time in January talking to different editors and reporters about what they had in the works or what they were thinking about. After I had covered all that terrain, I had a lot of notes. If I just kept the notes in a notebook or in my brain, they were not really going to be very helpful to anybody else. So I tried to get it all into this format — an organized Google sheet — that makes it very clear what articles are coming, who is working on them and when they’re going to be published.

A piece of it is understanding all the different stories that have been assigned. There’s a piece of it in understanding where all the different reporters are going to be on eclipse day. And there’s a piece of it where we’re just trying to understand the schedule in which things are being published, because we don’t want lots of different stories from different desks publishing on the same day, overwhelming readers. By staggering that, we serve readers’ actual attention span for this stuff.

Several articles explore communities as they plan for influxes of tourists. Do you focus on those areas ahead of time or as they gain attention?

The New York Times fortunately has a lot of correspondents all over the place. When they’re talking to people in Texas, the South, New England or Western New York, these things are coming up. Sarah Maslin Nir on the Metro desk did such a great job writing about what’s going on in Buffalo (the total eclipse will pass directly over the city) and how excited everybody is. The National desk picked up on the fact that people in Maine are anxious because they just don’t know if they can logistically handle the influx of people.

That’s an exciting thing about the breadth of this place — it’s not like I have to ask a Science reporter to write a logistics and infrastructure story. That’s not to say that it’s something they couldn’t do, but we have reporters who are very good at specializing in different aspects of the eclipse.

This eclipse seems to have more buzz than eclipses in the past. Why do you think that is?

There’s definitely more buzz around this one than there was about the October 2023 Ring of Fire eclipse , as it’s covering so much more of the country and it’s going to be a total eclipse. What I’ve noticed for both the 2017 eclipse and for this one is that there are a lot of people who are really excited about it.

I started picking up on people in my world, outside of journalism, who were planning for this eclipse much earlier. People were talking about this last summer because they wanted to make sure that they had a good place to visit, like upstate New York. I’m hoping the weather will reward their investment.

The difference between this eclipse and the 2017 total eclipse is that this one is close to New York City, so if somebody wanted to, they could get in their car and drive six hours to the west, and they’d be in the eclipse zone. That wasn’t true in 2017, at least for the Eastern Seaboard. I think that’s a difference as well.

Our Coverage of the Total Solar Eclipse

Dress for the Occasion:  What should you wear for the eclipse? Our fashion critic weighs the options , including an unexpected suggestion from scientists.

Free to View:  Six inmates in upstate New York prisons who sued the state won their lawsuit to view the eclipse , arguing it “is a religious event.” But a statewide prison lockdown during the eclipse will remain in place.

Hearing the Eclipse:  A device called LightSound is being distributed to help the blind and visually impaired experience what they can’t see .

Sky-High Hotel Prices: One Super 8 hotel in the eclipse’s path is charging $949 a night . Its normal rate is $95.

Animal Reactions : Researchers will watch if animals at zoos, homes and farms act strangely  when day quickly turns to night.

A Rare Return:  A total solar eclipse happens twice in the same place every 366 years on average. But people in certain areas will encounter April 8’s eclipse  about seven years after they were near the middle of the path of the “Great American Eclipse.”

No Power Outages:  When the sky darkens during the eclipse, electricity production in some parts of the country will drop so sharply that it could theoretically leave tens of millions of homes in the dark. In practice, hardly anyone will notice  a sudden loss of energy.
