The 44 Most Anticipated Tours of 2024: Taylor Swift, Bad Bunny, Olivia Rodrigo, and More

By Pitchfork

Mitski Burna Boy Olivia Rodrigo and more

It’s looking like a busy year for some of the world’s biggest touring artists, with packed schedules from Taylor Swift, Bruce Springsteen, Madonna, Bad Bunny, Foo Fighters, the Rolling Stones, Red Hot Chili Peppers, U2, Green Day, and many more. A few touring institutions, meanwhile, are just wrapping up, from Adele’s time in Las Vegas to Billy Joel’s Madison Square Garden residency and Bob Dylan’s seemingly never-ending Rough and Rowdy Ways trek. Some things, however, just never seem to change: You can expect the Ty Segalls and King Gizzards of the world to feature on these roundups till kingdom come, with reliable indie-rock staples like Destroyer, Wednesday, and Alvvays still out in force fighting for the cause, too.

After a residency that has spanned the best part of a year and brought hundreds of thousands of Adele fans to Las Vegas, the Tottenham superstar is closing the run with dates from January through June. “This residency, these shows have changed my life. I desperately needed to fall back in love with performing live again, and I have,” she said in the announcement. “It’s just made me realize how much I really enjoy being on stage, that I’m bloody good at it and that it is 100% where I belong! So let’s go one last time before I turn into a showgirl forever!” –Jazz Monroe

Before they play a European festival circuit next summer, Alvvays will head out on a series of U.S. tour dates in spring 2024. Fresh off their first-ever Grammy nomination (a Best Alternative Music Performance nod for their song “Belinda Says”), Alvvays are hitting venues across the country and ending the run in May in Tucson, Arizona. –Hattie Lindert

Alvvays: US Spring Tour 2024

Turns out 2022’s El Último Tour del Mundo wasn’t actually Bad Bunny’s last world tour. The Puerto Rican superstar is back on the road for the 47-date Most Wanted North American tour, in support of his October 2023 album Nadie Sabe Lo Que Va a Pasar Mañana . The run begins in February and concludes in May with three back-to-back nights in Miami. –Hattie Lindert

Right at the top of 2023, Belle and Sebastian shared a surprise album: Late Developers presented an array of playful indie-pop, and a companion of sorts to the previous year’s A Bit of Previous . In the meantime, Murdoch announced a memoirish novel and the band appeared on The Simpsons . –Jazz Monroe

This year marks the end of Billy Joel’s storied Madison Square Garden residency: the New York staple is set to retire his franchise with the venue after his 150th show in July. Since announcing the series in 2013, Joel has kept it a steady engagement, only taking off 18 months for the pandemic. While the residency is coming to a close, Joel does not yet plan to retire. –Hattie Lindert

Stephen and David Dewaele are rebooting Soulwax in 2024 for the duo’s first tour in five years. The Dewaeles co-produced Charlotte Adigéry & Bolis Pupul’s Topical Dancer in 2022, but haven’t released an LP of their own since 2018. The tour begins in Amsterdam in January, and will also stop in France, Germany, the Netherlands, Spain, and England. –Hattie Lindert

Taylor Swift

The hottest concert ticket of 2023—subject of the biggest concert film of all time—continues its reign throughout 2024. Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour is crisscrossing the globe. It’s Japan and Australia in February, Singapore in March, and then Europe and the United Kingdom from May to August. The shows return to North America in October and November with multiple dates in Miami Gardens, New Orleans, Indianapolis, and Toronto. If you’ve read through this paragraph, you might have noticed: that’s most of the months! –Evan Minsker

Tool haven’t released new music since 2019’s Fear Inoculum , but they’ve remained busy on the road. Following headlining and festival dates last year, the band has stadium and arena shows in January and February. Wondering what wild outfit Maynard James Keenan will wear this time? Will it be a blonde wig, red lipstick, and prosthetic breasts? A leather jumpsuit and a wild mohawk? Might as well go to one of these shows and find out. –Evan Minsker and Matthew Ismael Ruiz

With her new album, What an Enormous Room , out January 26, Mackenzie Scott is spending January to April on the road. Torres starts the year with January dates across the United States with Aisha Burns. For the first two weeks of February, she’s over in Europe and the United Kingdom for a bunch of shows, and then she’s back in the United States in late March and early April with shows alongside Liza Anne. –Evan Minsker

One can never be sure exactly what to expect from a Ty Segall show, especially here in the post–Freedom Band era. His sets can be electric and wild, acoustic and intimate, maybe a bit psychedelic. With his 2024 dates behind the new album Three Bells , you can likely expect him to lean into his prog rock impulses. After some West Coast dates in February, he’s heading across North America in April and May. –Evan Minsker

Tyler Childers

Kentucky’s Tyler Childers is a real champion of country music, honoring its history while expanding the genre’s palette and challenging the dominant attitudes of the industry’s principal players. Soon, he will play some of the biggest venues of his career on his Mule Pull Tour, including New York’s Madison Square Garden and Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena. Hayes Carll, 49 Winchester, Sylvan Esso, and Allison Russell will join Childers at different stops of the U.S. run. –Allison Hussey

During a Super Bowl musically dominated by the long-awaited return of Rihanna, U2 shared a commercial featuring a baby’s face in an orb. That mystical child heralded the band’s Las Vegas shows, where they’ve performed their 1991 album, Achtung Baby , from September into the first months of 2024. U2:UV Achtung Baby Live at the Sphere marked the opening of the MSG Sphere at the Venetian, which seats 17,500. With Larry Mullen Jr. taking time away from the band to recover from surgery, Bram van den Berg is playing drums at the shows. In a statement accompanying the announcement, the Edge used the phrase “the beauty of the Sphere” (speaking of the venue and not the baby from the Super Bowl spot). –Evan Minsker

Wednesday—whose singer, Karly Hartzmann, has openly chronicled the hurdles for indie bands to break even on tour—take to the road again in early 2024, still revving the gas behind their shaggy triumph Rat Saw God . In October, Wednesday shared a deeper peek at their lives together with the half-hour documentary Rat Bastards of Haw Creek , directed by their longtime friend Zach Romeo. They’ll begin in their native North Carolina in January, playing dates with Hotline TNT and They Hate Change through the next month, followed by another springtime leg with Draag in the western half of the United States. –Allison Hussey

“I really like how we didn't need a signal since we were out of range, and also how it knew where we were and gave us info for the things right in our view!”

— Laurie G.

“Holy cow! Just got back from my Death Valley trip and I can't believe how great the app was along the journey. Not only did it guide us to hikes and places we might have (easily) overlooked, but gave us perspective of the park that allowed us to appreciate it on a whole new level (history, points of interest, flora/fauna, etc.).”

Taylor Swift's The Tortured Poets Department is here, but it could be a logistical nightmare for the Eras Tour

A black and white photo of Swift holding up The Tortured Poets Department, and peering through the transparent vinyl

Get ready for another Taylor Swift era.

The Tortured Poets Department (TTPD) is the superstar's 11th studio album and is being released around the world today.

It'll be dropping the second the clock hits midnight on the east coast of America, which will be this afternoon in Australia.

  • 2pm AEST : ACT, New South Wales, Queensland, Tasmania, Victoria
  • 1:30pm ACST : Northern Territory and South Australia
  • 12pm AWST : Western Australia

So far, we know the album is a whopping 16 songs (not including bonus vinyl tracks) and features multiple collaborations, including with Florence + The Machine.

We also know the first single will be Fortnight featuring Post Malone, with a music video dropping tomorrow morning as well.

Despite no singles being released in its lead up, clues point to TTPD seemingly being inspired by the five stages of grief : denial, anger, bargaining, depression and acceptance.

Plus, many fans have speculated that the album title is a reference to the name of a group chat Swift's ex was part of – The Tortured Man Club.

And while The Tortured Poets Department could very well set new streaming records, it also poses a logistical nightmare for Taylor Swift's Eras Tour: how do you include yet another album into a show that is over three hours long?

Below, two ABC reporters and Swifties weigh up the likelihood of how the megastar might adapt her sell-out tour when it recommences in Europe next month.

We could lose some songs from every era to make room

Jessica : This seems like the most likely course of action. To put things into perspective, the Eras Tour includes songs from nine albums, but their airtime varies wildly. Lover, Folklore and Midnights have at least six songs, while Speak Now gets just two. So this might be a chance to balance things out?

Georgie : It would make the most sense to me. I can't imagine a tour that doesn't spend at least some time on the freshest music. But, this is a unique scenario. You have an artist who is essentially doing a greatest hits tour at the age of 34 while she is still churning out new music.

If she does cut music to make room for Tortured Poets, it will be very divisive. Every fan has their favourite era. But, I think if she was to I would hope she cuts songs she has already toured. You have to remember she put out four (now five) albums since her last tour and I imagine it would make the most sense for her to give more air time to Lover, Folklore, Evermore, Midnights and TTPD.

Jessica : If you were in charge of Taylor Swift's setlist, which songs would you cull? I'd ditch The Archer from the Lover era so it ends with, well, Lover. I'd be ruthless and cut most of the songs from the Red era as nothing compares to All Too Well (10 Minute Version). But keep the Reputation portion as is! It's perfect.

What if smaller eras, like Fearless and Speak Now, got cut altogether?

Taylor Swift performs in a glittering lavender ballgown.

Jessica : I love chaos so I would not bat an eye if Taylor Swift dropped the entire Speak Now era from her tour. (But Enchanted is such a core memory for a lot of fans.) I know this might be a wild concept but there's not one song from her self-titled debut album in the Eras Tour (justice for Our Song!), so make of that what you will.

Georgie : I think this will cause a major generational divide. The beautiful part about the Eras Tour is you have fans new and old coming together. Taylor has been making music since 2009 and the Eras Tour has been a chance for people in their twenties and thirties to dress up in glitter and be teenagers again while sharing the new music with teenagers today. I'm a folklore girl through and through so I am hoping if any eras get sacrificed it's the older ones. But I can't lie, it's pretty special to belt out Love Story with thousands of other people.

Could we lose the two surprise songs for a few Tortured Poets hits?

Georgie : Controversial opinion but I would be ok with this. Although, take this as you want because I have experienced the Eras Tour. But the section is a gamble anyway. You never know what she's going to play and someone is always disappointed or their top pick is played another night. If you cut this section, no-one gets hurt. Maybe she subs it out for three best songs from TTPD?

Jessica : I missed out on tickets for the Eras Tour altogether so I was taken aback seeing fans who did score tickets complaining about which night got "better" surprise songs. You can't please everyone! I agree, this would level the playing field and take the comparison factor out of the tour… but I wonder if that uniqueness is a marketing factor as some super fans attend multiple concerts in the same city.

Sabrina and Taylor smile at each other on stage at a piano that’s decorated with painted flowers

Imagine if she just… didn't play her new album

Georgie : Don't say it or it might come true!

Jessica : I think this would be the riskiest option. Imagine the disappointment on the first night when the tour recommences in Paris on May 9. But some fans, especially in America, who witnessed the Eras Tour last year before this album was announced feel it's unfair if other countries get a different experience. But that's what happens with the passage of time!

Georgie : I see your point but you have to remember we're in an age where many people have watched the Eras Tour happen through TikTok and the cinema release. So is it really missing out when it's been inescapable for over a year? This could be a chance for the people who have waited so long for the Europe leg – who have basically watched the tour on streaming and all over TikTok – to have something unique and worth the cash.

Or she could just include the new album and make the show nearly *four hours* long?

Jessica : I think this option would please the most fans, but I genuinely don't know how she performs for hours on end each night and then travels through different time zones. Oh,  to be a billionaire with a whole team taking care of everything all the time.

Georgie : I don't see this happening. Costs would skyrocket and many stadiums have a noise curfew. That's new costumes, sets and dance routines.

Jessica : But I would eat up new costumes, sets and dance routines! A four-hour concert is outrageous, which makes me think she might very well pick this option. Time will tell.

Georgie : I'm obviously a Swiftie but when I found out about the new album and what that might mean for the tour I just felt… overwhelmed. I'm still processing the release of four albums and two Taylor's Versions in four years. And now she's putting out new music? It's simply too much! The concert is a marathon but if I did have to go to a four-hour show, I'd do it for Ms Swift.

The worst option: Swapping All Too Well (10 Minute Version) for the radio edit to save time

Jessica : Sacrilegious.

Georgie : The people would riot. Jake Gyllenhaal would be thrilled though.

Final thoughts

Jessica : With everything going on in the world, I think this is a fun problem to ponder, and an interesting one for Taylor to tackle. I wish her well in whatever form the Eras Tour takes, because fans are going to have strong opinions either way.

Georgie: I worry that Taylor needs a holiday but, as you said, she's a billionaire now so I think she'll be fine. I hope she tours future albums but I also support her having a rest. Go chill with the cats and Travis. You've danced in high heeled boots for two years.

The Kyiv City Ballet to Tour the US in an American Premiere

The US tour will include a full-length Swan Lake (choreography by Marius Petipa, Lev Ivanov and Ivan Kozlov), and a second mixed repertory program of three ballets.

The Kyiv City Ballet, under the artistic direction of Ivan Kozlov, announced today a U.S tour from September 16 to October 24, 2022. The Fall tour is a US premiere and marks the Kyiv City Ballet's first United States performances ever. The day before Ukraine was invaded in February, The Kyiv City Ballet unknowingly took one of the last flights out of Kyiv. The company flew to Paris to begin a long planned tour. They have not returned home. The country of France sheltered them and the company has been performing throughout France, and now Europe, since the invasion began. The US tour will include a full-length Swan Lake (choreography by Marius Petipa, Lev Ivanov and Ivan Kozlov), and a second mixed repertory program of three ballets: Thoughts (choreography by Vladyslav Dobshynskyi) a contemporary ballet, Tribute to Peace (choreography by Ekaterina and Ivan Kozlov) a neo-classical work, and Men of Kyiv (choreography by Pavlo Virsky) a Ukranian folk dance. "We are honored to share the beauty of ballet with US audiences, through Ukranian artists" said Ivan Kozlov, Artistic Director. "Touring the States for the first time with a range of ballets makes an important global statement. It demonstrates the resilience of the Ukrainian people." The Kyiv City Ballet's mission is to bring joy to audiences through ballet by bringing exemplary artists to theatres around the world. In the past decade, the company has successfully toured throughout dozens of countries on four continents. Two of Ukraine's prima ballerinas: Krystina Kadashevych and Oksana Bondarenko will perform with the company on their US tour. The company's principal dancer is Vsevolod Maevskiy, a former soloist of the Mariinsky Ballet and Kozlov's former student. "We are humbled that Rhizome has been asked to produce and strategically support the Kyiv City Ballet on their very first tour to the United States," said producer Kristopher McDowell . "That major cultural arts centers across the country are coming together to open their doors and their hearts is extraordinary. It is very clear this company and their artistry will have great appeal to non-dance and dance audiences alike." Additional tour dates will be announced over the summer. The Kyiv City Ballet's confirmed 2022 US tour schedule is as follows:

‘I’m Just Going to Vibe With It’: Nelly Korda One Shot Back at Chevron Championship

Korda enters the week on a four-event winning streak, and she’s in prime position at the first women’s major of the year.

  • Author: Jeff Ritter

With all due respect to recent Masters champion Scottie Scheffler , the hottest player in golf is competing just outside Houston this weekend.

And through 36 holes, she’s in position to ring up a fifth straight victory.

Scheffler has been incredible on the PGA Tour, but on the LPGA no one has beaten Nelly Korda for four consecutive events . On Friday at the Chevron Championship, the first women’s major of the year, Korda didn’t play her cleanest round but still shot a 3-under 69 to move to 7 under for the event, leaving her in prime position heading into the weekend: one shot back.

“It takes a lot of patience to win. At the end of the day the person that makes the least amount of mistakes or recovers the best from their mistakes ends up usually winning,” she said.

Korda actually opened her second round with a double bogey that would shake the confidence of a player who doesn’t happen to possess supreme confidence entering that moment. Korda, as one might expect, was unfazed.

“I actually didn't feel bad at all,” she said of her opening double. “Sometimes when you start to make mistakes you just don't really feel confident or you don't feel that great. But I just kind of told myself that it's the first hole of the tournament today. Even though I may have made a double, I wanted to save a bogey. There is still so much golf to be played and there is still a good bit of gettable par-5s.

“So that's usually what I think about, is just the opportunities that I have ahead.”

After her opening wobble, Korda made birdies on 2 and 4, and after a bogey on 7 she bounced back with birdies on 8 and 9. She went bogey-free on the back nine thanks in part to a nice par escape on 14, when she drove it into thick grass right of the fairway, hacked out and drained a 12-footer that took a 360-degree trip around the rim before dropping.

. @NellyKorda absolutely grinding it out for the par-save She maintains her co-lead position at -6 💪 pic.twitter.com/q3cwSaR1Yy — LPGA (@LPGA) April 19, 2024

Korda is the first American to win four straight LPGA events since Nancy Lopez won five in a row during her nine-win rookie season in 1978.

Jin Hee Im and Atthaya Thitikul share the 36-hole lead at 8 under. Hae Ran Ryu is 6 under and solo fourth, two back of the lead and one behind Korda. Thitikul could be the most formidable of that group, as she entered the week No. 10 in the women’s world rankings and was the 2022 Rookie of the Year.

But for now all eyes remain on Korda as she chases he 13th career title, fifth in a row and second major.

"I'm just at the halfway point right now. The amount of golf that I've played, I still have that to go. There is still a lot of golf left and anything can happen,” she said.

“Just going to stick to my process and vibe with it, is what my coach says.”

People who haven’t visited Kiev perceive it as a distant Eastern European city with close ties to Russia, a lot of apparent corruption and frequent protests going on.

The thing is that – as Bradt travel writer Michael Palin once said  – few stories in English romanticize Kiev and, for the last few years, with all the violent demonstrations and the ongoing war against Russia , many people from the West are even questioning the city’s safety and potential appeal.

Nevertheless, despite all these negative views, your perception of the capital changes radically as soon as you step into the city, because what you find is an extremely vibrant, energetic and beautiful capital with so much going on.

Kiev is, in fact, one of my favorite cities in the world, but I only discovered that upon my arrival, because Kiev is a city that, unexpectedly, tends to wow all its visitors.

There is just so much to do here, from visiting Baroque-style buildings to a large WWII Heritage, loads of Soviet things to see, a great bar scene and, basically, something going on in almost every corner.

Traveling to Kiev won’t disappoint you.

I spent two weeks in the city and this guide contains everything you need to know to visit Kiev , including transportation tips, the best places to stay and, of course, the best things to do in Kiev in a 4-day itinerary, including off the beaten track stuff.

How to prepare your visit when you travel to Kiev

Kiev is big, like damn big.

In area, it is almost as big as Berlin and definitely bigger than Madrid or Paris, so it might easily be the 3rd or 4th largest city in Europe.

Despite its size, however, it only has 3 metro lines.

It also has an extensive tram and city bus system but, when you have to make a connection, it just takes forever to reach some places.

Visit Kiev on a guided tour CLICK HERE TO SEE ALL AVAILABLE TOURS IN KIEV

Moreover, many things to do in Kiev, as well as bars and restaurants, are scattered all around the city, so you can’t just leave where you are staying and expect to find everything along the way.

This means that visiting Kiev requires a bit of preparation and planning ahead, so that is why, in the itinerary section of this post, I thought it would be helpful to split all the places to visit in Kiev into area and day by day.

Kiev or Kyiv? The first day I posted something about Kiev on my Instagram Stories , I got a message from a young Ukrainian lady who was kind of upset because I spelled it Kiev instead of Kyiv. The fact is that Kyiv is the Ukrainian way of writing it and Kiev is the Russian transliteration, so given the current (and past) relationship between both countries, Ukrainians are a bit sensitive regarding this topic and, in any case, their spelling is the correct one, as the city was named after one of the three city’s founders, Kyi . As for me, in the article I am using Kiev because this is the term English-speaking people search for and, by any means, I don’t want to get political about it. In private, however, I will always spell it Kyiv.

How to move around Kiev

Metro – As I said above, Kiev has two metro lines and one ticket costs as little as 8UAH, which is the equivalent of 0.30€. Something that surprised me about Kiev’s metro is that it is always very busy, no matter the time of the day.

Trams and city buses – Slower option but both tram and bus can take you literally everywhere. Google Maps can easily tell you which bus or tram number you should take when planning your route.

Taxi – It is easier if you download a taxi app and Bolt seems to be the most popular one.

Best places to stay in Kiev

Wherever you stay, I strongly recommend you stay close to a metro station and, if possible, near the center.

Otherwise, getting back home every day can be a time-consuming experience.

Where to stay in Podil area

Podil is the fashionable neighborhood where you can find the old pre-Soviet architecture. It is attached to downtown, is very well-connected and here you will find a wide array of bars, restaurants, and cafés.

Backpacker Hostel – Dream Hostel Kiev – Top backpacking hostel in the city, with a great traveling atmosphere and great location. A really good place.

Budget Apartment – Danchenko’s Apartment – In Kiev, booking an apartment is a popular thing to do.

A good hotel – Bursa Hotel – A nicely decorated hotel with a trendy style in the heart of Podil.

Where to stay in Pecherski (downtown)

This is the area around Independence Square and where you can find some of the most famous landmarks such as Saint Sophia Cathedral.

Backpacker Hostel – Friends Forever – A great hostel at the heart of downtown.

Mid-range Hotel – Ukraine Hotel – Surprisingly, the famous hotel that overlooks Independence Square isn’t expensive at all.

Things to do in Kiev in 4 days

These are, in my opinion, the unmissable places of any Kiev itinerary.

Map of what to see in Kiev in 4 days

Each pin color refers to a different day of your Kiev itinerary

Day 1 – Things to do in Kiev around Pecherski

This is basically downtown and the first place you need to visit in Kiev is Independence Square, the most central square and from where you can do a loop while stopping by a couple of landmarks.

Independence Square

Or Maidan Nezalezhnosti in Ukrainian is one of the most beautiful and impressive squares I have ever visited in Europe , and one of the most symbolic as well, as Maidan has witnessed quite a few particularly violent and important revolutions, the last one being the Euromaidan , a series of demonstrations that lasted for several months back in 2014, when many people were murdered by the police.

You may remember these events because it was all over the news.

Today, at least during my visit, there is a permanent outdoor exhibition with photos and memorials from the protests.

As I said, I suggest you come here first but this is also one of the best places in Kiev to see the sunset.

Maidan Nezalezhnosti is definitely, one of the best things to see in Kiev.

Saint Sophia Cathedral

This gorgeous cathedral was the first place in Ukraine to be declared a UNESCO World Heritage site. As in many places around Ukraine , you need to purchase a separate ticket for each place within the complex, including general entrance, getting inside the cathedral, going up the bell tour, visiting museums, etc.

I think the general entrance cost me around 65UAH (2.40€) – which was already enough for me – but if you want to visit everything, you may need to spend nearly 10€.

Food tip – Between Saint Sophia and Golden Gate you will find the Milk Bar , a Ukrainian café specializing in fancy dairy products and traditional pastries. Everything they serve is amazing, seriously, and I recommend you order Ukrainian Syrniki , which are some sort of cottage cheese pancakes with sour cream and honey. Delicious.

Kiev itinerary

Golden Gate

This place is advertised everywhere as one of the best things to do in Kiev but, in my opinion, it’s pretty boring.

Basically, these are the last remains from what used to be Kiev before the Mongolian invasion in the 13th century. What I liked, however, is that there was always a street musician playing in front of the gates.

National Opera

A Viennese style building constructed in 1901. You can’t get inside unless you purchase tickets and you can check all the events on this link .

St. Volodymyr’s Cathedral

One of the most important Orthodox churches in Ukraine is the Little Prince-themed Volodymyr Cathedral, completed in 1896.

St. Volodymyr's Cathedral Kiev

Bessarabsky Market

This is one of the busiest markets in Kiev, and a cool place to take a break because inside there is a craft beer place and a pretty authentic Vietnamese food stall run by actual Vietnamese.

Bessarabsky Market Kiev

Day 2 – What to do in Kiev around Shevchenkivskyi

The area around Shevchenkivskyi and Pechersk Lavra is my most favorite place to visit in Kiev, as it contains a large variety of very different sights to check out.

Hydro Park (Island)

Nobody comes here but I seriously recommend you stop by.

Hydro Park is the island located in the Dnipro River right in front of the Lavra, and one of the top places to go in Kiev.

On the shores that overlook the Lavra, there is a restaurant serving beer and Khachapuri Megruli , and I swear it was the best Khachapuri I ever had outside of Georgia, and you can trust my judgment because I lived in Georgia for 7 months .

We were sitting under the sun, with a beer, an excellent khachapuri, the best views of the Lavra and there wasn’t anybody else around!

what to see in Kiev

Arsenalna metro station

According to the locals and Wikipedia , Arsenalna is the deepest metro station in the world (105m) but, according to other sources like World Atlas , there is an even deeper one in Pyongyang, North Korea (110m).

In any case, unless you travel to North Korea, Arsenalna is the deepest metro station you will ever see. To get out, you need to stand on the two escalators for nearly 4 minutes (I timed it).  By the way, this is the closest metro station to the Lavra.

Salute Hotel

The coolest Soviet thing to see in this part of Kiev is an old hotel with an extravagant cylindrical shape. It must be a pretty awesome hotel to stay for a few days, and it is not very expensive.

soviet architecture in Kiev

Holodomor Memorial

Holodomor, better known in the West as the Great Famine , was a famine that took place in the 30s when several million Ukrainians starved to death.

This unfortunate event, however, wasn’t a coincidence but it was a real genocide organized by Joseph Stalin himself in an attempt to eliminate Ukrainian nationalism.

There is so much to say about it and I recommend you read the full story here .

One of the most sobering, yet interesting, things to see in Kiev is visiting the Holodomor Memorial, which is also a museum where you can read several absolutely crazy stories from survivors of the Great Famine. A must-see.

Food tip – Before Salute Hotel, there is a traditional Ukrainian restaurant named Varenichnaya Katyusha that serves all sorts of local food and is always packed with Kievans. They have all types of Ukrainian dishes but their specialty is varenyky , which are the local dumplings.

Holodomor Memorial Kiev

Pechersk Lavra

The top tourist attraction in Kiev, Pechersk Lavra, is a massive Christian Complex and the headquarters for the Ukrainian Orthodox Church.

Composed of several churches and cathedrals with white walls and shiny green and gold rooftops, Kiev Lavra is gorgeous, and spiritual. Most buildings you see here were built between the 11th and 18th centuries.

The general entry ticket costs 80UAH and it allows you to climb the bell tower, as well as visiting the cave. I think this is more than enough but, if you are interested in visiting the museums and entering other churches, you will have to purchase separate tickets for each.

Pechersky Park

This was something I wasn’t expecting.

On my way to the Great Patriotic Museum, I bumped into a military exhibition.

Well, not one, but a few so if you are into military tanks, planes, and helicopters, Pechersky park has several outdoor exhibitions containing all types of military arsenal. Pretty cool.

Some of the weaponry belongs to WWII and Soviet times but there are a couple of tanks (partially destroyed) that have been used during the ongoing war against Russia and each one has a plaque that tells the story of the tank and the soldiers that were riding in it. Some of the stories were pretty sad.

Great Patriotic War Museum and Motherland Monument

Soviets refer to World War II as the Great Patriotic War because it was a real conflict and struggle to protect their motherland, the Soviet Union, and the massive titanium statue that overlooks Kiev, wearing a sword and a shield with the hammer and sickle, represents precisely that.

If you can only visit one museum in Kiev, it should be this one.

Day 3 – Places to visit in Kiev around Podil

Podil area is the most European part of town.

Zhytniy Soviet Market

The best way to start your day is to check out this local market located in a Modernist Soviet building . It was built in 1982 and the interior is characterized by its peculiar roof.

Interesting to see in this market are all the salo stalls. I have never seen so many together. Salo is like slices of pork fat, very salty, and Ukrainians either have it as a snack or with borsch, the local beetroot soup. I found it pretty disgusting but for Ukrainians, it’s like a delicacy. Anyways, Zhytniy Market has tens of food stalls and the ladies will invite you to taste it.

things to see in Kiev

Chernobyl Museum

Extremely disappointing.

I don’t recommend you visit this museum because there is nothing to see, not even to read, and if you want to know about the nuclear disaster just book a tour to the exclusion zone . CLICK HERE TO BOOK A TOUR TO CHERNOBYL

Kontraktova Square and around

Podil’s center and where you find a lot of bars and restaurants.

Beer Tip – In Kontraktova Square, there is a beer store called Hop Hey that sells several types of craft draft beer to take away, a concept which I haven’t seen anywhere else. I think they have several shops across the city but, if you want to skip the overpriced beer of Kontraktova, Hop Hey is a great alternative (drinking in the street is allowed in Kiev).

Podil, Kiev

St. Michael’s Golden-Domed Monastery

The place where this pyramid of bright domes is built dates from the 11th century but it was demolished under Stalin’s command in 1937 and rebuilt afterwards shortly after independence.

This is one of the most important religious places to visit in Kiev.

By the way, this monastery and the next places from the list are located in the upper part of Podil and to get there, you can get the funicular located right next to Poshtova Ploshcha metro station.

best things to do in Kiev

Ministry of Foreign Affairs

I like Ukraine because today, religious places get mixed and camouflaged among Soviet stuff, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine is a clear example because this is an impressive concrete Soviet building placed right next to an important Christian site, St. Michael’s Golden-Domed Monastery.

Saint Andrew’s Church

This Baroque-style church is one of the most emblematic things to do in Kiev, especially because from there, you get breathtaking views of Podil’s district. Check this great photo I took with my drone.

things to do in Kiev Ukraine

Kiev’s Old Town

Saint Andrew’s Church is the beginning of Kiev’s Old Town, a set of narrows alleys full of art galleries and painters that reminded me more of Paris than an Eastern European city.

Day 4 – Off the beaten track things to do in Kiev

If you are into quirky stuff, on your last day you may want to add the following places in your Kiev itinerary.

Tank Factory

Don’t get excited, not yet.

Around 20km from Kiev’s downtown, there is a functional tank factory but, as you may imagine, visits are not allowed.

The factory, however, has a tank graveyard which you may find if you are lucky because the industrial complex is huge. I personally walked all around the area and couldn’t find but I did find the tank road, which was a 500m muddy path full of tank marks that lead directly to a factory backdoor.

Doing what I did was illegal so be aware of that and, if you want to try your luck, this is the location: 50.420848, 30.702709. There is a metro stop (Chernovyi Khutir) 2 or 3km away.

Kiev Crematorium

A great example of Soviet Modernism, Kiev Crematorium is one of the most unique Soviet buildings in Ukraine. As you may imagine, it is located in the middle of a cemetery, a pretty big one.

When we visited it, there were two funerals and it was a bit awkward, so we left pretty quickly.

If you like weird stuff, don’t forget to check the 7 most offbeat things to visit in Belarus

Underground Kiev

To be very honest, I didn’t take this tour but one of the coolest things to do in Kiev is visiting its underground tunnel system and checking out a nuclear bunker from the Cold War.

Kiev Circus and Obelisk Hero City

Not that offbeat because it is not far from downtown, but if you are interested in Soviet stuff, you can check out the Soviet Circus and the Obelisk Hero City, which commemorates the defense of the city during WWII and which has a Gold Star on its top, a symbol of heroism in the Soviet Union.

Soviet Crematorium Kiev

Best day trips from Kiev

The capital of Ukraine is also an excellent base for doing a few cool day trips.

Chernobyl Exclusion Zone

You already know about Chernobyl , so I won’t go into details, but the exclusion zone is 150km north of Kiev and, if you want to visit it, you must go on a tour (you can’t visit it independently).

Strategic Missile Museum

Seriously, this was one of the best places I visited in the whole Ukraine, an old Soviet nuclear missile launch facility today turned into an awesome museum where, besides checking out all the military nuclear arsenal, you can also get into one of the silos and the underground control room. Really worth the trip and my full review is on its way.

144km northeast of Kiev you find Chernihiv, a UNESCO World Heritage city and one of the most beautiful in Ukraine, containing beautiful churches and old architecture.

Despite being so close to Kiev, not many travelers decide to take this day trip but I personally think it is an unmissable attraction to visit from Kiev.

Hard to take anything you say seriously after stating in the very beginning that Kyiv has only two metro lines.. haha

You are right, it was a small mistake. It has 3, not 2. After Kiev, I flew to Minsk, which only has 2 metro stations, that’s why the confusion. In any case, it doesn’t change anything. The city is too big for just having 3 metro stations.

I was just wondering. If you have any guided tours.? Any of these places you go?

Thank you for such a deep and wide view of Kyiv. After reading this article, I’m inspired to explore some new places of this vibrant city you’ve mentioned, that I didn’t know about, despite being a Ukrainian.

Thanks Iryna! It was a pleasure meeting you in Lviv 🙂

Thanks for the helpful article (and your blog, generally)! Regarding the Strategic Missile Museum, how did you get down here? Is there public transit, and any memory of how much it would cost? Thanks.

Hey! It was around 15USD per person, more or less. I went there from Kharkiv, doing several train/bus/hitchhiking combinations. It took me 2 days!

Ohh! Thank you so much for these warm words and a review of Kyiv city! As a tour guide in Kyiv, I am happy to read pleasant words, not only critique..Kyiv can definitely impress those who come for the first time and almost all my guests always want to come back, and explore more of it!

This is such a great, helpful article! Kyiv is such a special city that I loved, and what’s happening in Ukraine right now is horrific and I’m praying it’s over imminently. The people are warm and friendly and I cannot wait to visit this beautiful city and people again one day.

I can’t believe how an update on 13th September 2023 can fail to mention the war! Which was what I was interested in. An earlier review on TripAdvisor mentioned how crowded buses were and the difficulties finding a seat on long haul routes such as to Warsaw. A much more useful review would contain practical information instead of just being another puff piece. So 5 out of 10 for highlighting places to visit.

Morgan Hoffmann’s comeback attempt just took a giant leap

Morgan Hoffmann opened 65-64 at LECOM Suncoast Classic to get into contention. (Andrew Wevers/Getty Images)

Second-round 64 has him one back at Korn Ferry Tour’s LECOM Suncoast Classic

Change Text Size

Morgan Hoffmann was on the 16th hole at Lakewood National Golf Club, home of the Korn Ferry Tour’s LECOM Suncoast Classic, when he looked at the leaderboard.

There was his name, right at the top.

He turned to his caddie. “This is what we play for,” Hoffmann said. “This is what we live for.”

One day after shooting a season-best 65, he would sign for a second-round 64 to reach 13-under par. Although he fell one off the lead thanks to Brandon Crick’s 62, it was a positive sign for Hoffmann, a one-time PGA TOUR fixture who was diagnosed with facioscapulohumeral muscular dystrophy in 2016.

“It’s huge progress,” Hoffmann said. “You know, I’ve been knocking rust off, I guess, since the beginning of the season. I haven’t played the last two years. It feels really good to be back out here competing again.

“This course really fits my eye and I feel good,” he added.

Hoffmann reached world No. 1 as an amateur and was an All-American at Oklahoma State before playing the PGA TOUR from 2013-17. He never won – it’s still on his to-do list – and began feeling unwell around the time he realized his right pectoral muscle had begun to atrophy. He searched high and low for a diagnosis before doctors told him he had muscular dystrophy and there wasn’t much he could do.

Frustrated with the limitations of western medicine, Hoffmann turned to psychedelics, yoga, surfing, veganism, breathwork, and even a grape cleanse. He went from Nepal for ayahuasca (hallucinogenic medicine) to buying a home in Costa Rica for its healthful Blue Zone attributes.

He also started Greyson Clothiers with Ralph Lauren designer Charlie Schaefer in 2015.

After largely disappearing from public view, Hoffmann returned to the PGA TOUR in 2022, saying he wasn’t ready to be a weekend golfer. Playing on a medical extension, he missed three cuts in five starts. That was of a piece with many of his results at the game’s highest level since 2019. Progress was slow.

The story had been much the same in five Korn Ferry Tour starts this season, as he had missed the cut three times, but on Friday he attributed much of that to poor putting. With a new putter this week, and having put a new set of irons in the bag three weeks ago, Hoffmann has been transformed at the LECOM Suncoast Classic.

“I’m very grateful to be here,” he said. “The last two years have been a lot of ups and downs, working on health still. My wife and I had a baby girl, she’s 1 (year) and 4 months now, and she’s got my heart on a string. Rai. She’s a little ball of light. It’s awesome.

“I want to be there for her,” he continued. “It’s different having a family; going home is very important and healing and rejuvenating for me. I don’t feel as much pressure to be out here grinding non-stop. I think that’s really fulfilling me more and keeping a smile on my face.”

He still talks to his friends on TOUR, and he aspires not just to rejoin them but to win. If and when that happens he will have a legitimate claim to having gone to the greatest lengths to do so. Hoffmann described his hallucinogenic ayahuasca treatment in a lengthy article in Golf Digest, recalling a “geometric butterfly” and a moth feeding him a vine, dirt, trees, and berries, after which the vine was pulled from him, an elephant appeared, and black smoke started pouring from his mouth. “It felt like the disease was coming out of me,” he said.

Unafraid to chart his own course, Hoffmann and his wife, Chelsea, have designs on opening a solar-powered healing center in their adopted home of Costa Rica. When he’s in the States, he has made his home in Jupiter, Florida, playing out of the Bear’s Club. Now he’ll be in the final group on Saturday at the LECOM Suncoast Classic.

2024 Paris Olympics: Gold Medalist Nelly Korda Looking Forward to Olympic Games With Just Under 100 Days to Go

Grad update heading into the weekend at the chevron championship.

  • Nelly Korda

Nelly Korda

You’ll be relieved to know that Nelly Korda’s gold medal is no longer living in a sock.

That was how the reigning gold medalist traveled with one of the most coveted prizes in all of sports after she first won the Tokyo Olympics in 2021, often begging TSA agents to be as careful as possible not to scratch it when they had to inspect the large metal object in her luggage at airport security.

The 12-time LPGA Tour winner now has it displayed in her office at home, a perfect reminder of all that she accomplished in 2021, arguably her breakout season on the LPGA Tour.

That is until 2024 rolled around.

Three years ago, it felt like Korda was well on her way to superstardom, as she won four times during the 2021 season, one of which was a major championship, the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship at Atlanta Athletic Club.

Add a gold medal and her first-time ascension to No. 1 in the Rolex Women’s World Golf Rankings into the mix, and Korda’s dominance couldn’t be argued, even with Jin Young Ko winning five times in the latter half of the season. And while it was chock full of some of the greatest accomplishments of her career, it’s a year that is now a little fuzzy in Korda’s mental photo album.

“I think I won like five times, including the Olympics, so it was such a blur of a year,” said Korda earlier this season at the FIR HILLS SERI PAK Championship. “There are memories that I created that (will) last a lifetime. One of the best things that year was winning in Florida for the first time and winning in front of my parents, an LPGA event for the first time, too.

“There are so many great things that went on in 2021. Hopefully, I can get some of that good juju in 2024.”

And that wish has definitely been granted this year for Korda, who has now more than established her dominance in professional golf. After a T16 finish at the season-opening Hilton Grand Vacations Tournament of Champions, she won the LPGA Drive On Championship in her hometown of Bradenton, Fla., the next week, outlasting Lydia Ko in a two-hole playoff at Bradenton Country Club.

She took seven weeks off, electing to skip the LPGA Tour’s three early-spring events in Asia, and returned to competition at the FIR HILLS SERI PAK Championship, winning that tournament in a playoff over Ryann O’Toole and re-ascending to the top spot in the Rolex Rankings.

Korda then made a quick jaunt over to the Ford Championship presented by KCC in Gilbert, Ariz., collecting her third straight LPGA Tour title after firing a 7-under 65 in the waterlogged final round to win by two shots over Hira Naveed at Seville Golf and Country Club.

At that point, three in a row would’ve been more than enough wins for any other LPGA Tour player, an early-year performance on which one could have easily hung their hat for the rest of the season. But the always-hungry Korda kept on playing.

She teed it up in Las Vegas at the T-Mobile Match Play presented by MGM Rewards, adding another tally to her win column when she handily defeated Leona Maguire 4 and 3 in the championship match at Shadow Creek. It was then that Korda really leaned into the history she was making, cutting up and laughing with reporters in her winning press conference as she joked about the celebratory In-N-Out Burger she’d have later with her team.

It felt like Korda could finally let herself think just a little bit about what this kind of performance meant for women’s golf and who her name was now written alongside in the LPGA Tour record books.

“Kathy (Whitworth)'s really good friend actually texted me last week a photo of me being compared to Kathy on social media,” said Korda in her winning press conference in Las Vegas. “I wrote her back that it's an honor to be alongside her. I used to play in her event growing up, The Kathy Whitworth Invitational in Texas, and meeting her, and getting to talk to her was always the highlight of my year. She was always so nice, so getting compared to Kathy Whitworth is a huge honor.”

Her recent tear of victories has all but guaranteed Korda a spot on the United States Olympic team, and it shouldn’t matter too much what she does in the next few events before the end of the qualification period in June. She should be competing in France.

But even though she’s playing the best golf of her career right now and is arguably the hottest player in the world, male or female, Korda is unwilling to think of winning another medal in August at the Olympics as the bright lights of Paris beckon in the distance.

Just like she has with every single one of her victories this season, Korda is instead focusing on what’s right in front of her and has decided to worry about medals and podiums when that time comes later this year.

“I'll start thinking about that when I'm on the team. Still haven't secured my spot,” said Korda. “Any time I get to represent the Red, White and Blue it's a huge honor. That would be another thing I would be extremely grateful for.”

It’s a here-and-now mentality that’s served her well in recent months. And considering that her 2024 performance is eerily reminiscent of the strength she showed in 2021, it’s not a stretch to think that it could be an Old-Glory-draped Korda who once again has gold around her neck at Le Golf National.

She just might end up needing another sock.

Witnessing greatness. 🤩 @NellyKorda continues to dominate on the @LPGA with her fourth consecutive victory. #OlympicGolf | #Paris2024 pic.twitter.com/jEODGPUJl4 — Olympic Golf (@OlympicGolf) April 8, 2024

At Auditorium, Kyiv City Ballet brings youthful zest to the grand Russian classical style

Not just a salute to a war-torn nation, the troupe’s sampler program showcases precise movement and ukraine’s dance traditions..

The Ukrainian dancers of Kyiv City Ballet have not been in their homeland since war broke out in February.

The Auditorium Theatre was packed Saturday night for the first of two performances by Ukraine’s Kyiv City Ballet. With Russia’s invasion of Ukraine still raging, gold and blue Ukrainian flags hung in the lobby and the colonnade leading to the Auditorium.

But inside the theater itself, the atmosphere paid the highest compliment possible to a visiting ensemble. It was the first night of the Auditorium’s 2022-23 season, and the audience included devoted Auditorium and ballet fans as well as fervent Ukrainian Americans. Since opening in 1889, the Auditorium has welcomed the world’s finest artists, including the Chicago Symphony Orchestra before it moved to the newly built Orchestra Hall in 1904.Saturday’s program, repeated Sunday afternoon, was not a sentimental, rally-round-the-flag salute to beleaguered dancers stranded in Paris since war broke out Feb. 24 in their homeland. It was an evening showcasing a young ballet troupe, founded in 2012, that deserves attention. Chicago is its fourth stop on a U.S. tour running through late October.

The evening’s sampler program, performed to recorded music, was a Ukrainian-style dance smorgasbord. A contemporary ensemble piece, “Thoughts,” by company member Vladyslav Dobshynskyi, opened the performance. Next came “Tribute to Peace,” a lighthearted work set to snippets of familiar music by Edward Elgar. Its two choreographers — Ivan Kozlov, Kyiv City Ballet’s founder and general director, and his wife, Ekaterina Kozlova, associate director — created it for the U.S. tour.

The company showed off its 19th century classical style in “Classical Suite,”flashy, familiar pas de deux from three story ballets: “Paquita,” “La Bayadere” and “Don Quixote.” “Men in Kyiv,” a rambunctious finale added as a last-minute surprise, set the audience cheering.

Kyiv City Ballet is young in more ways than one. Many of its 30-plus dancers are in their late teens and early 20s, just beginning their careers. Since Feb. 24, they have found a temporary home for ballet classes and rehearsals at Paris’ fabled Theatre du Chatelet. (The company had expected to be in France for two weeks, touring the country with “The Nutcracker” before moving on.)

But it is obvious the young dancers have thoroughly absorbed the grand Russian classical style, brightening it with youthful zest and buoyancy. Ballet has deep roots in Ukraine; the National Ballet of Ukraine celebrated its 150th anniversary in 2018. Despite the current hostilities between Russia and Ukraine, Russian ballet style is justly revered around the world. Any young ballet company should be proud to channel it.

In “Classical Suite,” the effort behind those endless, whipping fouetté turns and flashy, racing leaps occasionally showed. But throughout the evening, the dancers displayed something equally important as rock-solid technique. They looked at home and relaxed on the Auditorium’s vast stage, dancing with fierce precision and elan. From the corps’ gently curved, fluid arms in “Classical Suite” to their insect-like bent legs in “Thoughts,” they filled the air with sharply etched movement.

Though heartfelt, the choreography in “Tribute to Peace” was a trifle, a series of cliched vignettes of everyday life. Young couples danced happily, and haughty ladies spurned would-be lovers. But the Kyiv dancers know how to create vivid characters, and we couldn’t help but chuckle as the dandy wooed his indifferent lady with increasingly valuable gifts. Flowers? No. Bonbons? Oh, please. Diamond necklace? Now you’re talking.

The most intriguing work was “Thoughts,” danced to a largely electronic score by various composers. Depicting a man (Dobshynskyi) hounded by unwelcome thoughts (the corps as an ever-shifting, aggressive mass), it had its own share of dance cliches. An elusive woman (Maryna Apanasenko) represented the man’s salvation, and the corps and Dobshynskyi spent a lot of time in agonized lunges and anguished twists. But every gesture, often frozen for a second in space, was powerful. Creating indelible images, they cut against the deep black backdrop like an artist’s X-Acto blade.

Kyiv City Ballet member Vladyslav Dobshynskyi opened the Auditorium Program with his piece “Thoughts.”

The performance ended on just the right feel-good note with “Men in Kyiv,” an unabashed tribute to Ukraine’s centuries-old folk dance tradition. Sporting the colors of the Ukrainian flag, two teams of the troupe’s men — one in blue T-shirts, the other in gold — tore through the acrobatic runs, hops and spins of the Gopak.

Dating back to Ukraine’s 16th century Cossacks, the dance is familiar around the world thanks to folk troupes like Russia’s Moiseyev Dance Company and countless versions of the Russian Dance from “The Nutcracker.” But the Gopak was born in Ukraine, and its high-spirited, lightning-fast faceoff between friendly competitors is considered the country’s national dance. In choreographer Pavlo Virsky’s version, it was a showcase for the Kyiv City Ballet’s men, every one of them brimming with exuberance, skill and sheer joy in dancing. Propelled by rousing folk tunes familiar to any Ukrainian, they made it clear that Ukraine is indeed a distinctive nation, proud of itself and confident of its place in the world. The cheering audience heartily agreed.

Stranded Abroad, Kyiv City Ballet Announces Its First American Tour

The dance company has been staying in Paris since the Russian invasion of Ukraine

Ukrainian ballet dancers

On February 23, the  Kyiv City Ballet arrived in Paris to perform a children’s version of The Nutcracker . The tour was supposed to last two weeks. But the next day, Russia invaded Ukraine —and the company has remained in Paris ever since.

As the war drags on, the dancers’ future remains uncertain. In the meantime, though, the company has announced that it will make its first United States tour this fall, the  New York Times ’ Kalia Richardson reports. Starting in September, the tour will visit 13 cities, among them Chicago, New York, Detroit and Charlotte.

“Touring the States for the first time with a range of ballets makes an important global statement,” says artistic director Ivan Kozlov in a  statement . “It demonstrates the resilience of the Ukrainian people.”

Featured performances will include  Swan Lake and three other repertory works, per the Times. (The ballet lists on its  website   Giselle ,  Sleeping Beauty , and  Romeo and Juliet as some of the classical ballets it frequently performs.) The troupe will also participate in New York City Center’s upcoming Fall for Dance Festival .

When news broke of the Russian invasion, “everyone was on their phones, everyone was allowed to bring their phones onstage so they could stay [in touch] with their families,” Kozlov tells Lisa Bryant of  Voice of America (VOA). “Everybody was shocked. Everybody didn’t know what to do.”

Some members of the troupe tried to go back to Ukraine to enlist in the army but were turned away due to lack of experience, Kozlov tells the Times . Paris’ City Hall granted the dancers artistic residency at the  Théâtre du Châtelet and has housed them at a suburban hotel, per VOA.

“You can only create when you are free, and we need to hear what they are expressing,”  Anne Hidalgo , the mayor of Paris, told the  Times ’ Aurelien Breeden and Marina Harss in March. “They will be here for as long as it takes; I am absolutely not setting any deadline.”

The company only brought the costumes it needed for its Nutcracker tour. All of the troupe’s other possessions—music, videos, documents—were left behind in Kyiv.

“We were totally unprepared for this,” director Ekaterina Kozlova told National Geographic ’s Madeleine Schwartz in March. “We basically just psychologically said goodbye to everything that we have.”

Donations have supplied the company with tights and leotards, and a grant from the  Trust for Mutual Understanding has covered travel costs, per the Times. Kozlov says that the dancers want to share both their art and their spirit of strength in the face of war on the tour and are hoping to share Ukrainian stories with American dancers through workshops and classes.

The troupe performs ballet in addition to traditional  Ukrainian dances , which feature vibrant costumes, broad gestures and bouncing movements. While classical ballet is considered to be one of Russia’s greatest art forms and has been used as a display of nationalism by various regimes, it was also used as a  political tool during the Soviet Union to subtly speak out against the era’s leaders.

Many Ukrainian and Russian ballet students train at the same schools. Koslov has many friends in Russia, he told the Times in March: “They are telling me that they would love to say or do something, but they cannot because they are afraid.”
