The excellent VIP tour at Warner Bros provides a great opportunity for fans of WB TV shows and movies to see where the magic happens. Every corner of the 110 acre site is covered in the extensive 2 hour 25 minute tour. It begins with a short compilation of clips from Warner Bros movies, classic and new.

As well as the ‘regular’ VIP tour, there’s also a Deluxe VIP Tour available, which lasts 5 hours and includes lunch. This tour is obviously more expensive but allows for much greater access and more depth from your tour guide.

The WB Transportation Department was originally housed in a small room, which was theatrically lit, and very impressive, but very small.

By 2013, it had moved to a larger warehouse, adjacent to the transportation workshop. When I visited, the Batman vehicles were being moved around, and we actually saw the ‘Tumbler’ being driven!

VIP Tour Museum

Opened in 1996, this museum is a memorable stop on the VIP tour. Although you’ll only have a short time in the museum, it’s packed with artefacts from Warner Bros movies going back to the early days of the studio. The upper floor of the museum is a must-see for younger visitors as it’s full of props and costumes from the Harry Potter series. Unfortunately photography is not allowed in the museum.

Warner Bros. Studio Tour Hollywood - All You Need to Know BEFORE You Go (2024)

The VIP Tour Of Warner Bros. Studios

One of the reasons we were so excited to visit LA for the first time was to take a tour of the Warner Bros Studios. Home to many of our favourite TV shows including Friends and The Big Bang Theory, as well as countless hit movies, we couldn’t wait to get a behind the scenes tour of where the magic happens!

The best way to really experience the studios is by taking the VIP tour of the studios. This tour includes:

  • A walk through of a few different TV show sound stages
  • Driving through the back lots and exterior sets of different TV shows
  • A tour of the WB prop department
  • Access to  the archive – which includes two floors of memorabilia including authentic props and costumes from the Harry Potter and Batman films
  • A tour of the  Picture Car Vault  which was transformed into the Batcave and home to all the incredible Batmobiles
  • And of course, a visit to the infamous Central Perk on the Friends set that has been permanently set up

A little bit about Warner Bros. Studios

During our visit, Warner Bros. Studios had a total of 10 back lots and 30 sound stages, which have been home to some of the most iconic performances in history. It’s home to some of the biggest shows on television right now, including The Big Bang Theory, 2 Broke Girls, Ellen and Pretty Little Liars.

The prop department  is also home to more than 450,000 registered artefacts that have been used across so many TV shows and movies, and not just one produced by Warner Bros. either. We saw props that were being held for a future filming of Modern Family and props that had been used in heaps of the biggest blockbuster movies over the last few years.

Apparently, any show, movie or studio can borrow items from the Warner Bros. Prop Department, so in Hollywood it seems like sharing really is caring.

VIP Tour Highlights

During our visit, all the outside sets at the studio were set up to film CW’s TV Show  Hart of Dixie with Rachel Bilson. We were very excited because this is a show that we actually watch and love, and it was amazing to see the town of Bluebell where so much of the show is based. We didn’t see any scenes being filmed, they were still working on setting up when we drove through, but it was still so cool to be driving through a show that we recognised and watched at home!

In the archive, the  Harry Potter Exhibit is currently on display, which includes countless costumes and props that were used in the actual Harry Potter movies! You can check out the Sorting Hat, quidditch uniforms, outfits worn by Professor Snape and Professor McGonagall, as well as uniforms and outfits worn by Harry, Ron and Hermione. It’s a great exhibit and tribute to the iconic movies series, and it’s amazing to see so many authentic pieces from the movies.

Check out the best places to stay around LA

Visiting Central Perk

The last stop on the Warner Bros. VIP Tour is a visit to  Central Perk  from the set of Friends. The set was moved from it’s original sound stage to the back of the props department when Friends finished filming, sot hat it could be saved and visited by countless friends of the show.

It’s incredible to be walking into the actual Central Perk, a place everyone knows and loves from one of the most iconic TV shows in the world. It’s absolutely perfect and looks exactly like you expect it to from watching the show! There are so many tiny intricate details around the set that just bring everything in the cafe to life, it’s incredible.

Book your tickets to Warner Bros. Studios HERE

Before you go, be part of a live audience

Warner Bros. Studios is still a working studio and there are heaps of shows that are filmed here each and every day. Heaps of these shows also include a live audience and if you plan in advance you can grab tickets to be part of a live audience and get involved in the magic of Hollywood. We were lucky enough to grab ourselves tickets to a taping of 2 Broke Girls after our VIP Tour around the studio. We were hoping to see The Big Bang Theory but unfortunately they had a week of filming while we were in LA. It’s also super hard to get tickets to The Big Bang Theory, often selling out in only a couple of minutes!

It was so interesting to watch the episode of the show literally coming to life in front of our eyes. You can grab tickets to heaps of different shows for free from the TV Tickets website. Make sure to get in quickly though, because they sell out very quickly! Tickets come out 30 days before the taping of the show, and the website is updated at 8:30am Monday – Friday LA time. It’s a good idea to visit the website in advance to see what shows are going to be filming during your stay, then make sure you’re online as soon as they come out to avoid disappointment.

Tickets for the Warner Bros Studio Tour start from $54 per person. You can see more about the tour and book your tickets  here .

In 2021, the Warner Bros. Studio Tour created new interactive exhibits focused on the company’s recent history, unveiling areas dedicated to the DC Comics universe and the “Harry Potter” franchise.

This week, the popular Studio Tour in Burbank is doubling down on its more distant past.

Warner Bros. is now offering a Turner Classic Movies-branded version of its studio tour that will bring guests to previously off-limit areas of the lot, including vintage animation buildings, a mini rose garden and an apartment that once housed James Dean. The 90-minute tram portion of the jaunt — about 30 minutes longer than the studio’s standard tram excursion — will allow guides to go deeper into the history of the studio’s catalog to deliver factoids related to such films as “Casablanca,” “My Fair Lady,” “Rebel Without a Cause,” “Auntie Mame” and many more.

“We’re off the leash,” says Brad Taylor, a 15-year tour guide veteran with Warner Bros., noting that the TCM excursion will include time for guides to chat with visitors about their favorite films.

The TCM hosts are seen on on the Warner Bros. backlot.

“We get to talk to the guests and really hang out with people who have the same passion that we do,” Taylor says. “I find that ‘classics’ guests are less about behind-the-scenes and more, ‘I can’t believe this is where we are.’ It’s just the look on their faces when they realize ‘Casablanca’ filmed here, or James Dean stood right here.”

The launch of the TCM tour arrives during the network’s 30th anniversary and close to 12 months after classic film fans were given a scare. In June, Warner Bros. announced that layoffs would hit TCM, including some of the network’s top executives, prompting concern from prestige directors such as Steven Spielberg, Paul Thomas Anderson and Martin Scorsese. After garnering national attention, key cuts were reversed and Warner Bros. sought to assure fans that TCM would continue to be handled with care.

Fears about TCM’s decline

Long live TCM! Our culture would be worse off without movies on TV

Without Turner Classic Movies and other channels for movies on TV, we’d lose the instructive pleasures of the happy accident, the unexpected discovery.

Aug. 1, 2023

TCM network hosts — Eddie Muller, Jacqueline Stewart, Ben Mankiewicz, Alicia Malone and Dave Karger — recorded new video segments for the outing. The tour will take guests into the lot’s Property House, an area not visited by the standard tour. Here, visitors can get glimpses of materials for a full set, including items for a complete Oval Office setting, but expect guides to highlight vintage items, such as a throne from the Errol Flynn pirate film “Captain Blood.”

Danny Kahn, vice president-general manager of the studio tour, says there have been numerous requests over the years from guests to delve a little deeper into the studio’s animation history. That’s why the TCM tour will for the first time take visitors to an area of the lot once known as “Termite Terrace,” which from 1955 to 1964, says Taylor, housed the animation department, a building with a sloped roof designed to capture sunlight. Animation legend Chuck Jones, says Kahn, had an office in the Termite Terrace area in the 1990s despite Warner’s moving animation production elsewhere.

How the Universal Studios tram tour defined the modern theme park

The most important theme park ride ever created? It may just be the Universal Studios tram tour, which dates to the silent film era. Once primarily a behind-the-scenes tour, the trek has evolved to define the modern theme park.

Aug. 3, 2023

Another unique tour locale is the exterior of the Dean apartment. When Dean resided there during filming of “East of Eden,” it was actually across the street from the lot, the apartment nesting above a pharmacy. But gradual studio expansion has led to the area now being on Warner Bros. property.

“That was an actual drugstore with apartments, and the studio rented it for him,” Kahn says. “I think it was to keep an eye on him and keep him on a short leash.”

The tour will also give tram riders a look at executive life at the studio, allowing them to briefly walk around a rose garden. The manicured spaces once held a tennis court as well as offices and personal screening rooms for the likes of studio mogul Jack Warner, with many of the structures dating to the 1920s. “It’s a really historic area of the lot that hasn’t really changed a lot in all these years,” says Kahn, noting the area is still in use by studio principals. “Jack Warner, when he ran the studio, privatized the first floor. That was a massage parlor that he had beneath his office.”

Staples of the tour, such as a journey around the backlot city streets, a visit to the “Friends” set and cafe and recent additions highlighting the studio’s modern franchise films are included in the TCM trek, as is a pre-tour reception with beverages and pastries. All told, expect the tour to last about 3½ hours. A tour spokesperson says the first TCM-branded outing is scheduled for Wednesday, with trams expected to depart daily after that date. Adult tickets are $95, but there is a Southern California resident discount available for $75.

“It feels so good to have TCM here,” Kahn says. “People understand that the TCM brand is synonymous with classic film.”

New Warner Bros. Studio Tour 2024

By: Author Sarah Auerswald

Posted on Last updated: March 30, 2024

Updated for 2024

The Warner Bros. Studio Tour Hollywood is a wonderful chance to peek behind the curtain and see how movies and TV shows are made, and visiting the Warner Bros. lot means you’ll get a big dose of Hollywood history while you’re at it.

The tour was totally redesigned in 2021, having been completely upgraded with never-before-seen experiences and interactive exhibits sure to delight fans of Warner Bros. movies and TV shows. And for the first time, the tour is welcoming kids ages 5 and up.

From the new Welcome Center and expanded Studio Store, you’ll get to experience the new Storytelling Showcase, a new Action and Magic interactive exhibit featuring the DC superheroes and characters from the Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts series, an expanded Central Perk Café and Friends Boutique, and quite a bit more as a guest on the Studio Tour.

Characters from Harry Potter and the Fantastic Beasts movies greet you as you enter the new Action and Magic section of the Warner Bros. Studio Tour

What’s New on the Warner Bros. Studio Tour

The first new thing you’ll experience on the Warner Bros. Studio Tour is the Welcome Center. This is where you’ll check in for your tour and where you can shop at the expanded Studio Store as well. Note that the store is open to the public even if you’re not taking the tour. It’s filled with merchandise from both classic and contemporary Warner Bros. movies, as well as their beloved TV series.

There’s a Starbucks in the Welcome Center, just in case you need some coffee, and you’ll be greeted by an impressive oversize sculpture from the Triwizard Tournament (from Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire ), and both Daffy Duck and Bugs Bunny (in bronze statue form).

Storytelling showcase.

This experience is where you’ll learn about the history of Warner Bros., from its origins in 1923 through its nearly 100-year journey making the entertainment we’ve all enjoyed. You’ll see a sampling of the studio’s film, TV and animation titles, as well as some of the technological innovations. Take a selfie with a replica of the iconic WB water tower, see mini versions of the famous Sound Stages, and walk on an aerial view of the sprawling studio lot printed on the floor.

Janice (Maggie Wheeler) from Friends stopped by and sat on the Central Perk couch in the new Friends Boutique

Central Perk Café and Friends Boutique

Friends fans may never want to leave this sprawling re-creation of their favorite show’s sets. Sit on the famous couch at Central Perk, lounge in Joey and Chandler’s recliners and watch clips from the show, or hang out in Monica and Rachel’s apartment. And you can do all of this while enjoying delicious food from the Central Perk Café next door. Before you leave, you’ll want to shop at the Friends boutique, which has some fan merchandise found nowhere else.

Stage 48: Script to Screen Experience

Have you ever wondered about how on-screen magic is made? You’ll get a taste of what’s involved when you check out the Script to Screen section, which includes a special Post-Production interactive area. Learn about Foley Artists, Sound Mixers, Film Editors, and ADR Mixers. ADR, which stands for Automated Dialogue Replacement, is the process of replacing the actor’s voice that was recorded during production with a new version.

Sometimes when crews are filming, there’s extraneous noise that makes an actor’s dialogue unusable, or sometimes a new line is written and needs to be recorded. Whatever the reason, the way new dialogue is recorded and added to the film is something you can try for yourself. Stand in the booth, choose a scene, and you’ll get to record your voice coming out of a movie star’s mouth!

Action and Magic Made Here

Whether you’re a fan of the DC superheroes , the Harry Potter series , cool costumes and movie sets, or if you just like to be delighted, the Action and Magic Made Here experience is going to be your favorite part of the tour.

Wonder Woman fans get the treat of posing with her wings from WW84 , or from squeezing her lasso for a special surprise. They also get to see many costumes from the Wonder Woman movies, and even the classic Lynda Carter TV series look.

Not to be outdone, Aquaman, Superman, Batman, and Shazam are well represented for their fans (and fans of their villains), and you’ll find costumes, props, and vehicles from their movies, as well as larger than life posters and sculptures.

Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts

We predict Harry Potter fans are going to love this section of the tour. There are several interactive experiences they can choose to try, like taking a lesson in wand choreography, sitting on Harry’s bed under the stairs, mixing a few potions in Professor Snape’s classroom, or possibly the best one: letting the Sorting Hat choose which house you belong to at Hogwarts.

There are other great photo opportunities and interactives just within the Harry Potter section, and as a bonus, if you download the free Harry Potter Fan Club App, keep an eye out for the Enchanted Keys placed throughout the exhibit, and scan them when you see them, you’ll unlock hidden surprises.

More About the Studio Tour

The Studio Tour has a one hour Guided portion, and about two hours of unguided, self-directed time in total. The Guided portion of the tour is spent largely on the Tour Carts, riding throughout the studio lot with a tour guide to explain and answer questions. The rest of the tour is made up of time you’ll spend dining, shopping and exploring the interactive experiences. You’ll be able to complete this on your own time, and it may take you less than two hours.

The Warner Bros. Studio Tour is available in English and Spanish.

Daffy Duck and Bugs Bunny statues welcome you to the new Warner Bros Studio Tour

The Warner Bros. Deluxe VIP Tour

Note that the Deluxe VIP tour has not resumed in 2021. Stay tuned for updates. What follows is based on the tour as it was in 2012.

The VIP Deluxe Tour begins with a movie overview of some of the classic films and TV shows that were filmed on the lot, and it makes for quite an impressive resume. Beginning with The Jazz Singer in 1927, and continuing with films like The Maltese Falcon , A Streetcar Named Desire , The Music Man , What’s Up Doc , The Matrix Trilogy and all the versions of Ocean’s Eleven , Warner Bros. has been responsible for many great films – too many to name here.

Plus, dozens and dozens of our favorite TV Shows come from Warner Bros., like ER , Friends , Pretty Little Liars , Ellen , The West Wing ,  The Drew Carey Show , and so many more. You’ll see clips of many of them in the presentation – and immediately wish you had them all in your Netflix queue.

Academy Awards for Everyone!

On your tour, you’ll get to do something only members of the Motion Picture Academy usually get to do: hold an Oscar ! It’s surprisingly heavy, just like all the actresses say when they win – and it’s like a little dream come true when you get your photo taken. At least it was for me .

After that, your tour guide greets you and your group and leads you out to your “private” golf cart which will ferry you around the 10-acre lot for the 5-hour Tour. Photography is permitted in most places on the lot, however, some spots are off-limits and your tour guide will keep you informed.

Celebrity sightings are not uncommon on tours during the week (but rare on the weekends), and of course these can be a highlight of the experience, but since this is where the actors are at work, tour attendees are encouraged not to yell or accost the stars they may see. Photos with celebrities are not unheard of, though, especially if the rules are followed, so keep your eyes peeled and your fingers crossed.

The tour takes you through the backlot, which has doubled for every major city in the world over the years, and the “jungle”, which plays home to the exterior scenes of Pretty Little Liars and True Blood currently, but many others over the years as well.

ER was a major player on the Warner Bros. lot for the 15 years of its run, and so there are many spots on the tour that turn out to have been filmed as part of the show.

Danny Ocean rap sheet from Ocean's Eleven George Clooney

Related: Best Live Audiences to be part of in Los Angeles

The Tour Guides are all extremely knowledgeable about the history of the lot and about all the shows that are currently filming there. Each one brings their personality to the job – one they clearly relish. They really make the Tour special and worth every penny.

The tour continues with visits to the Prop department, where you’ll see replicas of the Maltese Falcon, the Wardrobe department where they construct the specialty costumes, and the Transportation and Picture Car department with cars on display like the Scooby Doo van, the Batmobile and the flying car from Harry Potter .

Plus there’s a special Green Screen photo opportunity there as well, where you can pretend you’re waiting for the Hogwarts Express, and there’s a fun stop at the preserved set of Central Perk from Friends .

Central Perk set from

There’s a visit to the sound department to see how special sound effects are made, some still “by hand”, even in this digital age.

Of course there are set visits, although not to those where there’s a crew actually working. Still, it’s amazing to see the rooms up close that you’ve only seen on TV or on the big screen. The attention to detail is fascinating.

One of the highlights of every tour is visiting the Warner Bros. Studio Museum . Some of the most famous costumes and props from their most popular movies and TV shows are on display. On any given day, you might see Ingrid Bergman’s suit from Casablanca or Voldemort’s cape from Harry Potter . Oh and for the serious Harry Potter fans: you can sit under the Sorting Hat and find out which house you belong to!

And did I mention lunch? Lunch at the Warner Bros. Commissary is included with the price of the tour. The setting is elegant and the food is terrific.

All in all, the Warner Bros. VIP Deluxe Tour is a wonderful way to spend the day.

Warner Bros. Unveils a Revamped TCM Classic Film Tour and New Investment in the Network | Exclusive

"This is the definitive Hollywood movie studio," TCM host Ben Mankiewicz says while hanging out on the Warner Bros. Discovery backlot. "MGM had the glitz, this place had the grit, and we always say, 'Grit over glitz.'"

Mankiewicz, as well as fellow on-air personalities Eddie Muller, Alicia Malone and Dave Karger, are present on the lot to film promo material for the newly announced TCM Classic Film Tour that will show fans various Old Hollywood spots on the Warner backlot.

It's a moment of renewal for the classic film-centric network, coming close to one year after Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav stoked the ire of film fans by laying off several key members of the Turner Classic Movies team and cutting the network's already meager budget. In that time, the network has rehired two of those creatives initially laid off — program director Charlie Tabesh and festival programmer Genevieve McGillicuddy — and put Warner Bros. Pictures heads Pamela Abdy and Michael De Luc a in charge of oversight of the network alongside a board that includes Martin Scorsese, Paul Thomas Anderson and Steven Spielberg.

"This is a rare moment when I think that corporate-speak makes sense," Mankiewicz told TheWrap during an exclusive interview on the backlot. "This is the kind of synergy that works." Part of that synergy is this new tour, which is all part of a reinvestment in the network and its mission to protect classic films. The new TCM-centric tour of the backlot comes with all-new branded trams, evoking the Art Deco spirit of the network, while dedicated tour guides show off locations with classic film appeal, like the studio's Rose Garden, the last remaining set from 1942's "Casablanca" and the Property Department.

The new tour also comes with a cheeky ad campaign, playing on rotation on the TCM network, that sees the hosts recreating the "chicken fight" from the 1955 feature "Rebel Without a Cause."

Mankiewicz, who TheWrap previously reported was a key figure in getting TCM back on solid ground, humbly refuses to take credit for getting Zaslav to support the station. "It was a thrill to be a very small part of what went on," he said. "I don't think there's anybody here who would say we're not in a better place than we were a year ago."

Much of that, as Mankiewicz and Muller explain, is because of the directorial board made up of Spielberg, Anderson and Scorsese, whose impact has been immediately felt by fans. "The biggest difference is it feels like TCM's profile has been raised in the mainstream because of their involvement," Muller noted. "What started out as a negative thing, we managed to turn into a very positive thing and that was largely due to — we now refer to them as the board of directors."

Outside of the increase in directors and performers like Olivia Wilde and Spike Lee jumping on the network to talk movies, the directors are a daily presence in meetings on network programming. Mankiewicz said that, in one instance, it was Anderson himself who asked that TCM restore the "what's up next" spoken menus, read by long-time "voice" of TCM, Robin Bittman. "Paul Thomas Anderson said, 'You guys used to have the menus in-between the movies where they tell you what was coming up. Can we bring that back?"

Anderson's reps did not respond to TheWrap's request for comment.

"The interaction with the directors has been amazing from my perspective, they really like TCM's approach, values and reverence for film," Tabesh told TheWrap. "We've created interstitial pieces based on concepts they've brainstormed, and their involvement has led to more talent becoming available to the network."

More than anything, though, Muller is happy to talk about movies with the impresarios of filmmaking. "It's pretty amazing to be on Zoom calls with these guys," he admitted. "You can only imagine talking about movies and they geek out. That's where we knew they were real because they waste a lot of time just talking about movies."

Famous Hollywood directors, they're just like us.

Taylor Swift The Eras Tour

Lloyds Bank is aiming to help Taylor Swift fans in the UK avoid a cruel summer. The bank has issued an “urgent warning” over ticket scams for the upcoming UK leg of the superstar’s Eras Tour, finding that Swifties are being “targeted by a wave of concert ticket scams flooding social media.”

The institution further estimates that industry-wide across the UK there are likely to have been at least 3,000 victims since tickets went on sale, with over £1 million ($1.25 million) lost to fraudsters so far.

More than 90% of reported cases start with fake ads or posts on Facebook, which includes Facebook Marketplace, according to Lloyds, with dozens of unofficial groups set up specifically for people looking to buy and sell tickets for Taylor Swift concerts.

Lloyds warned, “With all UK dates now sold out, many more fans are likely to fall victim to ticket scams in the coming weeks and months, both leading up to the tour and once the concerts begin in June.”

In its research, Lloyds found that the number of reported scam cases relating to concert tickets more than doubled last summer compared to the same period a year earlier (up by 158%). Among the other major artists most commonly targeted last summer were Coldplay, Harry Styles and Beyonce.

Liz Ziegler, Fraud Prevention Director, Lloyds Bank, said, “For her legion of dedicated Swifties, the excitement is building ahead of Taylor’s Eras Tour finally touching down in the UK this summer. However, cruel fraudsters have wasted no time in targeting her most loyal fans as they rush to pick up tickets for her must-see concerts. It’s easy to let our emotions get the better of us when we find out our favorite artist is going to be performing live, but it’s important not to let those feelings cloud our judgement when trying to get hold of tickets.”

Ziegler suggested, “Buying directly from reputable, authorized platforms is the only way to guarantee you’re paying for a genuine ticket. Even then, always pay by debit or credit card for the greatest protection. If you’re being asked to pay by bank transfer, particularly from a seller you’ve found on social media, that should immediately set alarm bells ringing.”

Warner Bros. Pictures’ longterm head of physical production Kevin Trehy has exited the company after 21 years, Variety has exclusively learned.

The U.K. production team is being led by Jay Rosenwink and Samar Pollitt who have both been with the studio for many years.

Trehy, who was based at Warner’s Leavesden Studio just outside London, joined the company as a line producer in 2003 before working his way up to EVP for physical production. He has worked across dozens of the studio’s blockbusters including “Wonder Woman 1984,” the Harry Potter film series and Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy.

Popular on Variety

Warner Bros. Discovery announced last year that DC Studios’ primary production hu b would move to Leavesden, which is set to expand capacity by 50%. WBD is planning to break ground this year with the project expected to be completed by 2027. DC Studios co-chairmen and CEOs James Gunn and Peter Safran were planning to consult with the Leavesden expansion team to “ensure that their ideas are incorporated” into the new facilities.

Among the productions shot at Leavesden over the past few years were “Barbie,” which was said to have given the U.K. economy a $100 million boost, and “Wonka.”

Leavesden is also home to the Harry Potter Studio Tour, which gives fans a chance to step onto some of the sets used in the movies.
