How to prepare your RV for shipping

We ask that you carefully prepare your RV or travel trailer. Following these simple steps will help make sure that there are no safety incidents or delays during transport.

Check your trailer lights

Check your trailer lights to ensure they are working properly. ( brake, turn, clearance, license plate etc.) Trailer Wheels & Axles: Inspect the wheels and axles on your trailer for proper lubrication. It is recommended that bearings, bearing seals and bearing cups on a trailer be greased every 12 months or 12,000 miles.

Check your trailer’s weight rating

Do NOT overload your RV trailer. Check the gross trailer weight rating (GTWR) of your trailer to prevent overloading. Overloading your RV trailer can lead to tire blowouts, resulting in damage to the trailer.

Secure personal items

Any personal items inside your trailer or RV must be properly secured. Make sure cabinet doors are closed, locked if possible, and any items that are not mounted, be removed or placed in a secure area in the trailer.

Disconnect power supply

Disable your trailer’s power supply to prevent any accidental activation of electrical components or battery drainage. Unplugging appliances and disconnecting the battery are two ways to effectively shut down the power supply.

Remove hazardous materials

Second, you aren’t just taking the word  of the transport company that they will do a good job. You can check reviews and licensing. They are insured if something should go wrong. On average it costs a little over $1 per mile to have someone move your travel trailer across the country. For instance, going from San Francisco to Omaha, NE will cost around $1600. This is assuming you are flexible with your dates and you don’t need any special services.

It is also assuming you are going long distances. Short moves cost a little more per mile. The average is about $2 per mile for private party and about $3 per mile for a professional transportation service. Meaning a move from LA to Las Vegas will cost around $600 to $900 depending on how you have it shipped.

Why so much more per mile for the short haul? It’s because you are also paying for the return trip for the driver. The shorter the distance, the less likely the chance for a shipment going the other direction.

You’ll also want to add in the cost of storage. In some cases you can have your RV held for later shipment or store it once it arrives. Either way, the moving company will charge a storage fee. This is around $100 per month on average.

There might also be extra insurance costs. Transporting RVs is dangerous work. Accidents can happen. You will want to contact your RV insurance company. Additional coverage may be required. Most professional RV moving companies have $750,000 in insurance. However, it might not cover specialty equipment.

As the RV owner, just make sure you are covered. 

Overseas RV Shipping Costs?

Getting your trailer to another country has a few added steps. There are special licenses, paperwork, and tariffs. There is getting it loaded onto a cargo ship. Plus, if you are not in a port city, you will need to have it moved cross country first.

Let’s assume you already have it in a port state such as California or New York.  Most cargo containers are 8’ wide by 7’10” tall inside, so unless your travel trailer is small it will most likely be driven onto the ship. This leaves destination as your only real variable.

Once it’s on a ship, distance doesn’t seem to make much difference. Things like tariffs and port charges will be the biggest factor. For instance, an RV shipping from California will cost about $1200 to go to Germany but about $3600 to go to the UK.

The lowest rate was around $1000. While the highest was around $4000 . Based on an average sized RV. You’ll need to use the domestic shipping costs for getting your RV to a port. Plus, some ports charge a fee of $275 to $350. Then you have transportation costs upon delivery unless you are planning on picking it up at the foreign port.

What About Hawaii?

Shipping your travel trailer to Hawaii is sort of a combination of overseas and domestic transportation. You don’t have to deal with extra tariffs. However, you do have port fees and the transportation by cargo ship to pay for. On average, it was about $2000 from California, plus whatever it costs to get the RV to the dock. So, plan on a minimum of around $2500.

JERUSALEM (AP) — A U.S. Navy ship and several Army vessels involved in an American-led effort to bring more aid into the besieged Gaza Strip are offshore of the enclave and building out a floating platform for the operation that the Pentagon has said will cost at least $320 million.

Sabrina Singh, Pentagon spokeswoman, told reporters the cost is a rough estimate for the project and includes the transportation of the equipment and pier sections from the United States to the coast of Gaza, as well as the construction and aid delivery operations.

Satellite photos analyzed by The Associated Press on Tuesday show the USNS Roy P. Benavidez about 11 kilometers (6.8 miles) from the port on shore, where the base of operations for the project is being built by the Israeli military. The USAV General Frank S. Besson Jr., an Army logistics vessel, and several other Army boats are with the Benavidez and working on the construction of what the military calls the Joint Logistics Over-the-Shore, or JLOTS, system.

Satellite images from Sunday and Monday by Planet Labs PBC showed pieces of the floating pier in the Mediterranean Sea, alongside the Benavidez. Measurements of the vessel match known features of the Benavidez, a Bob Hope-class vehicle cargo ship operated by the Military Sealift Command.

A U.S. military official confirmed late last week that the Benavidez had begun construction and that it was far enough off shore to ensure that the troops building the platform would be safe. Singh said on Monday that next will come the construction of the causeway, which will then be anchored to the beach.

The U.S. military’s Central Command early Tuesday published images of the floating pier’s construction online, after the AP’s publication of the satellite photos.

“The pier will support USAID and humanitarian partners to receive and deliver humanitarian aid to the people of Gaza,” the statement on the social platform X said.

U.S. and Israeli officials have said they hope to have the floating pier in place, the causeway attached to the shore and operations underway by early May. The Pentagon said on Monday the operation will cost at least $320 million. The cost was first reported by Reuters.

Under the plan by the U.S. military, aid will be loaded onto commercial ships in Cyprus to sail to the floating platform now under construction off Gaza. The pallets will be loaded onto trucks, which will be loaded onto smaller ships that will travel to a metal, floating two-lane causeway. The 550-meter (1,800-foot) causeway will be attached to the shore by the Israeli Defense Forces.

The U.S. military official said an American Army engineering unit has teamed with an Israeli military engineering unit in recent weeks to practice the installation of the causeway, training on an Israeli beach just up the coast.

The new port sits southwest of Gaza City and a bit north of a road bisecting Gaza that the Israeli military built during the current war against Hamas . The area was the territory’s most populous before the Israeli ground offensive rolled through and pushed more than 1 million people south toward the city of Rafah on the border with Egypt.

Now Israeli military positions are on either side of the port, which initially had been built — as part of an effort led by World Central Kitchen — out of the rubble of buildings leveled by Israel. That effort halted after an Israeli airstrike killed seven World Central Kitchen aid workers on April 1 as they traveled in clearly marked vehicles on a delivery mission authorized by Israel. The organization says it is resuming its work in Gaza.

Aid has been slow to get into Gaza, with long backups of trucks awaiting Israeli inspections. The U.S. and other nations also have used air drops to send food into Gaza. The U.S. military official said deliveries on the sea route initially will total about 90 trucks a day and could quickly increase to about 150 trucks daily.

Aid organizations have said several hundred such trucks are needed to enter Gaza every day.

In the aftermath of Hamas’ Oct. 7 attack on Israel, which killed 1,200 people and saw 250 others taken hostage, Israel cut off or heavily restricted food, water, medicine, electricity and other aid from entering the Gaza Strip. Under pressure from the U.S. and others , Israel says the situation is improving, though United Nations agencies have said much more aid needs to enter.

Gaza, slightly more than twice the size of the city of Washington and home to 2.3 million people, has found itself on the brink of famine. More than 34,000 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza since the fighting began, local health authorities say.

On Sunday, Israeli military spokesman Rear Adm. Daniel Hagari said the amount of aid going into Gaza would continue to scale up.

“This temporary pier will provide a ship-to-shore distribution system that will further increase the flow of humanitarian aid into Gaza,” he said in a statement.

However, high-ranking Hamas political official Khalil al-Hayya told the AP last week that the group would consider Israeli forces — or forces from any other country — stationed by the pier to guard it as “an occupying force and aggression,” and that the militant group would resist it.

On Wednesday, a mortar attack targeted the port site, though no one was hurt.

Whether your trailer is a big semi trailer or little camper trailer our safety guide will work.   Our drivers are trained to do a walk around inspection on the trailer before hooking up to it, during travel and after the delivery has been made.   We start out by looking at the overall appearence of the trailer.   1.  Look at the appearance of the trailer:  Look for the obvious: loose siding or panels, broken or missing lights, or anything out of the ordinary. 2.  Tires: Check the tire pressure of the trailer tires.  Kicking the tires is not the best way to check for proper air pressure.  Use an air gauge!  Look foor dry rot, cracks, rips or buldges on the tires.  When I tire blows it can cause damage to your trailer, slow your trip down and also pieces of your tires could hit another vehicles on the road.  When in doubt, change your tires. It will save you money in the long run. 3.  Lights: Trailers are required to have lights on all sides.  The back lights, the side marker lights and the lights at the top front of the trailer called the center lights.  Every state, city, county lights on trailers are mandatory.  Clean the the light caps, replace bulbs if needed. Check wiring.  You want all lights working. 4. Brakes: Electric Brake Trailers must have a break away switch on them. Before driver pulls away the driver should make sure the break away switch works. US military ships are working to build a pier for Gaza aid. It's going to cost at least $320 million

JERUSALEM (AP) — A U.S. Navy ship and several Army vessels involved in an American-led effort to bring more aid into the besieged Gaza Strip are offshore of the enclave and building out a floating platform for the operation that the Pentagon has said will cost at least $320 million.

Sabrina Singh , Pentagon spokeswoman, told reporters the cost is a rough estimate for the project and includes the transportation of the equipment and pier sections from the United States to the coast of Gaza, as well as the construction and aid delivery operations.

Satellite photos analyzed by The Associated Press on Tuesday show the USNS Roy P. Benavidez about 11 kilometers (6.8 miles) from the port on shore, where the base of operations for the project is being built by the Israeli military. The USAV General Frank S. Besson Jr., an Army logistics vessel, and several other Army boats are with the Benavidez and working on the construction of what the military calls the Joint Logistics Over-the-Shore, or JLOTS, system.

Satellite images from Sunday and Monday by Planet Labs PBC showed pieces of the floating pier in the Mediterranean Sea, alongside the Benavidez. Measurements of the vessel match known features of the Benavidez, a Bob Hope-class vehicle cargo ship operated by the Military Sealift Command.

A U.S. military official confirmed late last week that the Benavidez had begun construction and that it was far enough off shore to ensure that the troops building the platform would be safe. Singh said on Monday that next will come the construction of the causeway, which will then be anchored to the beach.

The U.S. military's Central Command early Tuesday published images of the floating pier's construction online, after the AP's publication of the satellite photos.

“The pier will support USAID and humanitarian partners to receive and deliver humanitarian aid to the people of Gaza,” the statement on the social platform X said.

U.S. and Israeli officials have said they hope to have the floating pier in place, the causeway attached to the shore and operations underway by early May. The Pentagon said on Monday the operation will cost at least $320 million. The cost was first reported by Reuters.

Under the plan by the U.S. military, aid will be loaded onto commercial ships in Cyprus to sail to the floating platform now under construction off Gaza. The pallets will be loaded onto trucks, which will be loaded onto smaller ships that will travel to a metal, floating two-lane causeway. The 550-meter (1,800-foot) causeway will be attached to the shore by the Israeli Defense Forces.

The U.S. military official said an American Army engineering unit has teamed with an Israeli military engineering unit in recent weeks to practice the installation of the causeway, training on an Israeli beach just up the coast.

The new port sits southwest of Gaza City and a bit north of a road bisecting Gaza that the Israeli military built during the current war against Hamas . The area was the territory’s most populous before the Israeli ground offensive rolled through and pushed more than 1 million people south toward the city of Rafah on the border with Egypt.

Now Israeli military positions are on either side of the port, which initially had been built — as part of an effort led by World Central Kitchen — out of the rubble of buildings leveled by Israel. That effort halted after an Israeli airstrike killed seven World Central Kitchen aid workers on April 1 as they traveled in clearly marked vehicles on a delivery mission authorized by Israel. The organization says it is resuming its work in Gaza.

Aid has been slow to get into Gaza, with long backups of trucks awaiting Israeli inspections. The U.S. and other nations also have used air drops to send food into Gaza. The U.S. military official said deliveries on the sea route initially will total about 90 trucks a day and could quickly increase to about 150 trucks daily.

Aid organizations have said several hundred such trucks are needed to enter Gaza every day.

In the aftermath of Hamas' Oct. 7 attack on Israel, which killed 1,200 people and saw 250 others taken hostage, Israel cut off or heavily restricted food, water, medicine, electricity and other aid from entering the Gaza Strip. Under pressure from the U.S. and others , Israel says the situation is improving, though United Nations agencies have said much more aid needs to enter.

Gaza, slightly more than twice the size of the city of Washington and home to 2.3 million people, has found itself on the brink of famine. More than 34,000 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza since the fighting began, local health authorities say.

On Sunday, Israeli military spokesman Rear Adm. Daniel Hagari said the amount of aid going into Gaza would continue to scale up.

“This temporary pier will provide a ship-to-shore distribution system that will further increase the flow of humanitarian aid into Gaza,” he said in a statement.

However, high-ranking Hamas political official Khalil al-Hayya told the AP last week that the group would consider Israeli forces — or forces from any other country — stationed by the pier to guard it as “an occupying force and aggression,” and that the militant group would resist it.

On Wednesday, a mortar attack targeted the port site, though no one was hurt.

Walmart to shut all health centers in US over lack of profitability

Walmart plans to close all 51 of its health centers across five states in the U.S. as well as its telehealth operations, the company said on Tuesday, citing lack of profitability in those businesses.

Illinois Tool Works raised its annual profit forecast on Tuesday and beat market estimates for first-quarter profit, even as revenue dropped 1%.

JERUSALEM — A U.S. Navy ship and several Army vessels involved in an American-led effort to bring more aid into the besieged Gaza Strip are offshore of the enclave and building out a floating platform for the operation that the Pentagon has said will cost at least $320 million.

Sabrina Singh, Pentagon spokeswoman, told reporters the cost is a rough estimate for the project and includes the transportation of the equipment and pier sections from the United States to the coast of Gaza, as well as the construction and aid delivery operations.
