The 10 Best Cuba Cruises

Norwegian’s four- and five-night Cuba-bound voyages out of Florida bundle in a full open-bar on each sailing.

Courtesy of Norwegian Cruise Line

[Editor’s Note: Due to Trump administration-imposed travel restrictions to Cuba as of June 2019, cruise ships have been effectively banned from bringing American travelers to the island nation. The Associated Press reports that would-be cruisers who have already booked their trips prior to the policy change will still be permitted to travel, though details on the process remain murky; check in with individual operators for the latest updates.]

There’s perhaps no sweeter travel proposition than taking that proverbial bite out of once-forbidden fruit . . . and juicy Cuba , with its vibrant culture, lively locals, rich history, and transporting tropical setting, is ripe for the picking. However, despite it being the largest of the Caribbean islands—situated a mere 90 miles from the United States—the destination can feel frustratingly out of reach, thanks to the logistical hoop-jumping required of American travelers , even with thawed U.S.-Cuba relations in recent years.

Happily, cruising makes a Cuba vacation a breeze, seamlessly bundling lodging, transport, and excursions and managing all of the required red tape for guests, because the trips are aligned with current U.S. government travel requirements (for travelers, that means going on preapproved cultural/educational exchanges, via a “people-to-people” visa).

Indeed, cruise lines have seized upon this convergence of eased regulations and pent-up traveler demand to service Cuba, with available itinerary options skyrocketing in recent years. Their recipe has had resonance: Cruising lets you get around the large island in ease, from a comfortable home base, with plentiful excursion options while offering relative affordability compared to land-based vacations.

Of course, this ain’t your typical sun-and-surf Caribbean cruise (although it’s got plenty of that, too). Maybe you’ve got your heart set on history-rich Havana (it turns 500 years old in 2019), with its time-warp 1950s classic cars, crumbling colonial buildings, and storied night spots (such as the Tropicana or Buena Vista Social Club). Or perhaps you want to see the country’s second-largest city and Cuban Revolution–cradle at Santiago de Cuba or visit Cienfuegos, with its UNESCO-protected city center. Whatever your interests, there’s a cruise to match.

SeaDream Plush mega-yacht line SeaDream kicked off its Cuban presence in early 2019, with a portfolio of eight “Cuba Collection” voyages aboard its 112-passenger SeaDream II ; the line offers an additional eight sailings to Cuba in 2020, aboard its 112-guest SeaDream I . The seven- to nine-night immersive itineraries sail between Havana and Cienfuegos (and vice versa) with an exclusive focus on Cuban ports along the island’s western coastline, including some lesser-visited locales like Trinidad, Cayo Largo, Isla de Juventud, and María la Gorda. Excursion highlights include a night out at a Cuban cabaret in Havana (with transfers via a classic car) or a snorkeling trip on the pristine coral reefs of Bahía de Corrientes. Sailings from January through March 2020; rates from $4,599/person; seadream.com

Virgin Voyages The most buzzed-about new cruise line on the horizon is Richard Branson–brainchild Virgin Voyages, carving out an industry niche with its stylish, adults-only, party-hearty cruise model. When the line debuts its first ship, the 2,770-passenger Scarlet Lady , in April 2020, its maiden voyage will feature an overnight stop in Havana. The ship goes on to host a season of four- and five-night Cuban voyages from Miami , all inclusive of an overnight call in Cuba’s capital, as well as a stop in Bimini in the Bahamas . Excursion and onboard programming details are forthcoming, but the ship is a welcomed retreat with sweet features like 20-plus dining options, ocean-facing cabanas, a vinyl shop, and the first tattoo studio at sea. Sailings from April through October 2020; rates from $1,500/person; virginvoyages.com

Oceania Cruises Luxe Oceania runs a robust range of Cuba-inclusive itineraries, including a slate of convenient seven- to 11-night voyages round-trip out of Miami, aboard the recently revamped 684-passenger Insignia or Sirena . Itineraries vary slightly, but typically include overnights in Havana, as well as calls in Cienfuegos and Santiago de Cuba (a few of the longer itineraries feature rare-for-the-industry overnight stays in those two cities, too, for fuller immersion). Choose from excursions like an arts tour of colonial Cienfuegos or a farm-to-fork culinary outing in Havana. Sailings in July 2019 and from September 2019 through March 2020; rates from $1,499/person; oceaniacruises.com

Seabourn Cruise Line Swank Seabourn is making way for an inaugural season in Cuba in late 2019. Book one of five 11- to 25-night sailings running round-trip out of Miami (or between Miami and San Juan, Puerto Rico) aboard the 458-passenger Seabourn Sojourn (featuring a Thomas Keller–backed dining venue on board). Itineraries differ but include overnight stays in Havana, Cienfuegos, and occasionally Santiago de Cuba, as well as calls in Isla de la Juventud and/or Antilla, along with other Caribbean stops sprinkled in (such as the Cayman Islands , Jamaica , or the Dominican Republic ). Sailings in November and December 2019; rates from $4,999/person; seabourn.com

Havana turns 500 years old in 2019, and visiting is a step back in time, complete with ubiquitous 1950s classic cars.

Viking Viking’s ocean arm runs weeklong winter cruises to Cuba round-trip out of Miami. Sail the 930-guest, all-veranda Viking Sky on immersive itineraries that include four full days docked in Cuba via an extended three-day port call in Cienfuegos; excursions from that city can be arranged for a tour of colonial Trinidad or an overnight hotel-based excursion to Havana. The ship also includes a one-day stop in Santiago de Cuba. Back on board, luxuriate in one of two pools (including an infinity pool at the ship’s stern) or at the Scandinavian-inspired LivNordic Spa. Sailings in January, February, and November 2020; rates from $2,599/person; vikingcruises.com

[Editor’s Note: Following the engine failure of the Viking Sky in Norway in March 2019, a Viking spokesperson assured AFAR of the following:“The safety and well-being of our guests and our crew is always our first priority. An initial independent investigation into the incident identified a potential oil lubrication issue, as a result of this we have adjusted our policies and procedures to ensure that this issue could not be repeated.”]

Norwegian Cruise Line Norwegian offers carefree, quick-hit voyages to Cuba out of Miami (on the 2,004-passenger Norwegian Sky ) and Port Canaveral (aboard the 1,936-guest Norwegian Sun ), with four- and five-night trips that bundle in a full open-bar on each sailing (yes, mojitos are included!). Choose from itineraries that pair an overnight stay in Havana with stops in Key West or Norwegian’s private Bahamian island at Great Stirrup Cay. Shore excursions include tours of Havana in classic American cars, performances at venues like the Tropicana or Buena Vista Social Club, or art outings to hip contemporary arts venue Fábrica de Arte Cubano . Upgrade a sailing on either of the recently renovated ships with a suite-level stay for extra perks like priority embarkation/disembarkation, free Wi-Fi, and specialty dining passes. Year-round sailings; rates from $249/person; ncl.com

Silversea Cruises Newly launched in early 2019, the small ships of all-inclusive, butler-serviced Silversea now sail to Cuba, with a series of winter voyages running round-trip out of Fort Lauderdale. Choose from some dozen sailings in 2020 aboard the recently refurbished, 298-passenger Silver Wind . Voyage details vary but may include an overnight in Havana and a call in Santiago de Cuba (sometimes overnighting there), or (more rarely) Cienfuegos, plus visits to spots like Key West or Bimini. Choose from 34 shore excursions: Take in jazz at a Havana club or visit Cojímar, the seaside village that inspired Hemingway’s The Old Man and the Sea. Sailings from January through March 2020; from $3,330/person; silversea.com

Variety Cruises Greece-based Variety Cruises (in partnership with “people-to-people” Cuba program specialists Beyond Cruises) offers fall and winter sailings aboard its 49-guest three-masted sailing ship Panorama . On seven-night routes between Cienfuegos and Havana (or in reverse), itineraries incorporate less-trafficked Cuban locales like Trinidad, María la Gorda, and Isla de la Juventud. On-the-ground small-group excursions emphasize cultural immersion via encounters with local artists and artisans: Meet with musicians behind the Buena Vista Social Club or with an artisan in a woodcarving studio in Trinidad, for instance. Sailings in November 2019, January 2020, and February 2020; rates from $2,717/person; varietycruises.com

Carnival Cruise Line Carnival—best known more for its splashy, mass-market “fun ships”—is notable in the Cuban market for sheer numbers: The line has over 100 Cuba sailings scheduled through 2020, running from more U.S. homeports than any other cruise line, including Miami, Fort Lauderdale, Port Canaveral, and Tampa, with soon-to-launch options out of Charleston, New York , and Norfolk. The range of three- to nine-night itineraries incorporate either full-day or overnight calls in Havana, coupled with stops in other Caribbean-region ports like Cozumel, Key West, and Nassau. On board the five 2,052- to 3,006-passenger ships servicing the region ( Carnival Sunshine will be the largest ship to call on Havana when it starts the first-ever Cuba cruises from Charleston in November 2019), guests can expect Cuban-themed music, deck parties, lectures, and salsa dance lessons, too. Year-round sailings; rates from $309/person; carnival.com

Pearl Seas Cruises Pearl Seas Cruises offers 11-night Cuba cruises that sail round-trip from Fort Lauderdale aboard the 210-passenger Pearl Mist . The itinerary incorporates overnight calls in Havana and Santiago de Cuba, as well as in Cienfuegos, Trinidad, and the more rarely visited seaport town of Casilda, taking in all the requisite outings en route (cruising Havana in a classic car, trailing Hemingway, listening to steel drums). Sailings from October through December 2019; rates from $5,335/person; pearlseascruises.com

Cuba Cruises

UPDATE: As of 6/5/2019, cruises to Cuba are no longer available due to travel restrictions imposed by the United States. However, you can STILL visit Cuba with our Land Tour operators!

To learn about alternative cruise vacations, including land tours, please call 1-800-377-9383.

Learn a little more about what to expect when sailing to Cuba, if/when cruising returns to Cuba:

For the first time in several decades, US tourism is returning to Cuba. Culturally and technologically speaking, much of Cuba has been stuck in the 1950s since revolutions and political turmoil led to a series of trade embargos. This means Cuba is still catching up with the rest of the world, but that’s part of the experience when cruising to Cuba! Be one of the firsts to explore this unique nation before it loses any of its unique nostalgia. Depending on your itinerary, you might be able to tour cities like Havana, Trinidad and Santiago – each of which features wistful combinations of old and new. Take in the bustling streets full of laughing children, spicy Caribbean rhythms and vintage cars, or head to untouched (and uncrowded!) beaches for a peaceful retreat.

Things to Do on a Cruise to Cuba

Take in the bright colors while dancing through the streets of Havana, tour a cigar factory or spend the day at an isolated beach. These are just a few of the memorable experiences available to you on a cruise to Cuba:

Cuban Beach

  • Step back in time with an architectural tour of Havana, a city that appears straight out of the 1950s. Visit the expansive Revolution Square and stroll along cobble-stoned streets lined with vintage cars.
  • Spend a day at one of Cuba’s picturesque white sand beaches. Right away you’ll notice that the beaches in Cuba are much less crowded but no less beautiful than those found in the more visited Caribbean islands.

Cuban Cigars

  • Tour an authentic Cuban cigar factory and learn about the country’s fabled cigar history. You’ll leave with a huge appreciation for the craft after seeing all the work that goes into one of Cuba’s famous hand-rolled cigars.
  • Visit the National Museum of Fine Arts to view a vast collection of Cuban art spanning multiple styles and time periods. This will help paint a broader picture of Cuba as a whole, and you’ll enjoy a break from the Cuban heat!

Morro Castle in Havana, Cuba

  • Walk along the fortified walls of the Morro Castle, a former Spanish military complex that now features museum exhibits and one of the finest views of downtown Havana.
  • Walk the lively streets of Havana at night for a totally different Cuban experience. Follow the beat towards an impromptu musical performance or step into any number of night clubs for a refreshing drink.

Background on Cuba’s cruise industry

The cruise industry in Cuba has a long and colorful history. Prior to the Cuban Revolution in 1959, Cuba was a favorite destination among American tourists, with luxury liners like the SS United States and the RMS Empress of Canada regularly making stops in Havana. However, after the revolution, the relationship between the United States and Cuba became strained, leading to a decline in tourism and a halt in cruise ship visits.

It wasn’t until 2016 that the Cuban government, under the leadership of President Raul Castro, decided to open its ports to cruise ships once again. This move was a part of the government’s strategy to boost the country’s tourism industry and promote economic development. The decision to allow cruise ships to visit Cuba was met with great enthusiasm from both cruise industry stakeholders and travelers eager to explore this previously restricted destination.

Since then, the cruise industry in Cuba has experienced a rapid expansion. A number of major cruise lines, including Carnival Corporation, Royal Caribbean, and Norwegian Cruise Line, have introduced itineraries that include stops in Havana and other Cuban ports. These cruise lines have worked closely with the Cuban government to ensure compliance with the necessary regulations and to create unique experiences for their passengers.

One of the reasons behind the popularity of cruising to Cuba is the convenience it offers. Traveling by cruise ship allows passengers to visit multiple destinations in Cuba without the need for constant packing and unpacking. Cruise lines often offer a variety of shore excursions, allowing passengers to experience the highlights of each port of call. From cultural and historical tours to beach outings and culinary experiences, there is something for everyone.

Another factor contributing to the growth of the Cuban cruise industry is the allure of experiencing the country’s unique culture. Cuba is known for its vibrant music, dance, and art scene, and cruise passengers have the opportunity to immerse themselves in this cultural richness while exploring the local markets, visiting art galleries, and attending live performances. Additionally, the Cuban people are renowned for their warmth and hospitality, making interactions with the locals a memorable part of the cruise experience.

Cuba’s cruise market opening

The opening of Cuba’s cruise market in recent years has been a game-changer for both the country and the cruise industry. The Cuban government’s decision to welcome cruise ships has not only created new opportunities for economic growth but has also offered travelers a unique and exciting way to explore this captivating destination.

The easing of travel restrictions between the United States and Cuba in 2015 was a significant driver in the opening of Cuba’s cruise market. Previously, American citizens were only able to visit Cuba through specific authorized travel categories. However, with the relaxation of these restrictions, American tourists were given the chance to experience the beauty and culture of Cuba more freely.

Major cruise lines quickly seized this opportunity and began to develop itineraries that included stops in Cuba. With its proximity to Florida, Cuba became an attractive and accessible destination for cruise travelers, particularly those departing from ports such as Miami, Tampa, and Fort Lauderdale.

The Cuban government saw the potential of the cruise industry in boosting its tourism sector and generating revenue for the country. They worked closely with cruise lines to establish port agreements and develop the necessary infrastructure to handle the increasing number of cruise ships calling at Cuban ports.

With the opening of its ports, Cuba experienced a surge in cruise arrivals. In 2017, approximately 620,000 cruise passengers visited Cuba, a remarkable increase from previous years. This influx of tourists has had a positive impact on the local economy, providing opportunities for small businesses, tour operators, and local artisans to thrive.

The Cuban government has also taken steps to ensure that the benefits of the cruise industry extend beyond the major cities and tourist hotspots. Efforts have been made to promote secondary ports like Cienfuegos and Santiago de Cuba, offering visitors the chance to explore lesser-known but equally captivating destinations.

While the United States had initially placed restrictions on American citizens’ ability to cruise to Cuba, these restrictions were eased, allowing cruise lines to resume sailings to the island. However, it’s important to stay informed about current travel regulations and any potential changes, as these can impact cruise operations to Cuba.

Overall, the opening of Cuba’s cruise market has been a win-win situation for both the Cuban government and the cruise industry. Travelers now have the opportunity to discover the beauty and culture of Cuba while enjoying the convenience and comfort of a cruise vacation.

What Cruise Lines Travel To Cuba? (Find Out)

American cruise ships began visiting the tropical paradise of Cuba in 2016 and more sailings continue to be added each year.

While cruise lines have been sailing the Caribbean for many years it is only recently that there has been an interest in cruise lines that stop off in Cuba.

What Cruise Lines Travel to Cuba (Find Out!)

Traveling to Cuba has become more difficult and in 2019 due to government policy changes Americans are no longer permitted to travel to Cuba on Cruise Lines.

This seriously affected the cruise line business and many Americans lost out on their opportunity to take in the beauty of Cuba.

In 2022 sanctions against Cuba are starting to ease which means that soon again cruise lines will once again be able to stop off in Cuba.

Below we look at what cruise lines travel to Cuba so you can plan your time in the sun and take in the vivid colors of the culture-rich country of Cuba soon!

History Of Cruise Lines From The United States To Cuba

Relations were first eased between Cuba and the United States in 2014 but it took a number of years to work through the logistics of establishing cruise routes between the two countries.

In 2016 the first American-owned cruise vessel sailed from Miami to Havana and from 2016 to 2019 it became a hugely popular destination that most people sought in their cruise itineraries.

Between 2016 and 2019 cruise lines such as Royal Caribbean, Carnival, and Norwegian created special routes to stop at Cuba.

The routes stopped at Havana, Santiago de Cuba, and other Cuban ports to give visitors an authentic experience of Cuba.

There were also a number of small and luxury cruise lines that established routes that included Cuba within their Eastern and Western Caribbean itineraries.

Many smaller companies were deeply affected by the policy change in 2019 and are no longer operating, leaving a market for other companies to establish routes to cater to demand.

Virgin Voyages Cuba Cruises

In 2020 businessman Richard Branson established Virgin Voyages with a route specifically bound for Cuba for the company’s first ship Scarlet Lady.

The change of government policies in 2019 affected this potential voyage and so the company had to redirect the route to other Caribbean destinations such as the Bahamas, Bimini, and the Dominican Republic.

Virgin Voyages hope to establish a route with Cuba at the centerpiece of the itinerary again soon since restrictions are now easing and the interest in such a route is still very much there for American cruise lovers.

Americans Traveling To Cuba

For Americans, there are still certain restrictions on traveling to Cuba and it is still not yet possible for American-owned cruises to port in Cuba.

If you are planning to take an international cruise it is extremely important that you consult with the company to check that you will be able to legally visit Cuba as an American on the company’s cruise.

Americans can now travel to Cuba as long as the purpose of their journey is related to one of twelve specific categories.

The most common category for the Cuban visa that enables Americans to travel for tourist purposes is the Support for the Cuban People category of travel.

By selecting this category the US citizen traveling to Cuba is promising that they will do things that support everyday Cubans during their time in the country.

This would mean that you would eat in Cuban-owned restaurants and shop in local shops and markets.

Certain cruise lines will be able to facilitate travelers under this travel clause but it is best to seek clarification before purchasing your cruise line tickets.

Cruise Lines Traveling To Cuba

All of the below cruise lines are American-friendly and will comply with People-to-People regulations, which are stipulated under travel category 12.

What Cruise Lines Travel to Cuba (Find Out!) (1)

Royal Caribbean International

The Empress of the Sea is the liner from Royal Caribbean International’s impressive fleet that travels to Cuba.

This line is suited to budget-conscious travelers who only have a short period of time that they can designate for a cruise.

This route does follow a very strict itinerary and so those who would rather have more time to wander around the island of Cuba may not be suited to this line.

There is now a huge range of routes available with this cruise line that gives great choice from where cruise holidaymakers wish to set off from, the length of the cruise, and where they get to experience.

Regent Seven Seas Cruises

If you want to experience a more luxurious cruise that is all-inclusive and allows you to explore Cuba properly then the range of cruises offered by the Regent Seven Seas is perfect for you.

This luxury line carries up to 700 passengers and includes a number of excursions that will allow you to fully experience the rich culture of Cuba, through art tours, rum, and cigar excursions, and much more.

Choose from three different boats to choose the best cruise for you with Regent Seven Seas Cruises.

Ponant is a small French cruise line that has included Cuba in its sailing itineraries since 2017.

If you want an intimate trip you will be sure to experience it with Ponant as the three-masted schooner, Le Ponant, which is bound for Cuba carries just 64 passengers.

Ponant is also popular with those who want to visit less tourist-centric port towns to see different sides of Cuba.

This cruise trip does differ from others as passengers fly to Havana where they board the boat. Most other cruise lines start outside of Cuba.

One thing worth mentioning is that due to the size of the boat it is not suited to anyone who may suffer from motion sickness as the small boat will leave guests feeling more movement and motion than a larger boat would.

Pearl Seas Cruises

This is a fantastic choice for anyone who wants to enjoy detailed and in-depth tours at each of the stops on the cruise’s journey.

Cruises to Cuba take place on the Pearl Mist which can carry 200 passengers.

The Pearl Seas is a sister company to American Cruise lines and so they both attract similar clientele, being those who are happy to splurge on their cruise.

There is not a lot of downtime on this cruise as the itineraries are bursting with activities and tours.

This cruise is favored by older passengers who prefer more port than sea days and are happy to enjoy numerous tours over the course of their cruise.

Other cruise lines worth noting include:

  • Oceania Cruises
  • Norwegian Cruise Line
  • M&C Cruises
  • International Expeditions

Most other cruise operators that have a route running to Cuba are not American-friendly and focus on attracting clientele that can enter Cuba without additional visa requirements.

Final Thoughts

Although there are several international cruise lines that still run cruise lines that port in Cuba it can be difficult for American travelers to be a part of these cruises.

It is hoped that in the next few years the cruise line routes connecting the United States with Cuba will reopen again allowing for American holidaymakers to once again have the opportunity to experience Cuba and all that the country has to offer.

Major Cruise Lines Hired Cuban Agencies To Provide Tourism Services Despite Ban

At the height of the enthusiasm sparked by President Barack Obamas historic restoration of relations with Cuba, several cruise lines rushed to secure a piece of the islands untapped market under newly eased regulations promoting people-to-people engagement.

The cruise companies knew that traveling to Cuba for tourism was illegal. So, instead of sipping mojitos at Varadero beach, Americans going to Cuba were supposed to participate in humanitarian and social-impact initiatives to help Cubans gain independence from the state, the cruise lines pledged.

But a recent trove of unsealed documents from related lawsuits filed in Miami federal court shows that behind the scenes, four major cruise lines Carnival, Royal Caribbean, Norwegian and MSC Cruises made deals with Cuban Ministry of Tourism agencies to provide tourist services to their passengers, despite the long-standing U.S embargos ban on tourism to the island. The services included excursions to cabarets and beaches that arguably did not comply with the travel rules at the time.

Heads Up, Americans: Cruises Could Sail Back to Cuba in 2021

Set sail to this picturesque Caribbean island, famed for its striking colonial architecture, magnificent powder-soft beaches, and fascinatingly diverse culture.

With miles upon scenic miles of white sand beaches, beckoning Old World architecture and majestic mountain ranges, Cuba is quickly becoming a popular vacation destination, and one of the best ways to explore this vibrant Caribbean island is with a Cuba cruise.

Very little has changed in Cuba in comparison to neighboring Caribbean islands, due in large part to an economic embargo that has lasted for more than half a century. As a result, passengers disembarking from a Cuba cruise will notice that some of the major cities, such as Havana, appear to be stuck in a time warp: the colonial architecture, though visually stunning, are in need of repair, while antique Fords, Buicks and Pontiacs are easily spotted cruising the streets in clouds of smoke. However, these storied surroundings are what make Cuba such a fascinating place to visit.

The best time to go on a Cuba cruise is from December to March, when the weather is delightful and rain is sparse. From May to October the temperature can reach unbearable levels, but if you can withstand the heat and humidity, try to book your Cuba cruise in July so you can be a part of the effervescent Carnival festival that occurs every year in Santiago de Cuba.

Cuba Cruises Travel Tips

  • Cuba has two currencies, one for the locals and one used by foreigners you have to be able to differentiate the two because banknotes of both the currencies may look similar. It is good to carry some extra cash with you as sometimes power cuts on ATMs can leave you with no cash.
  • Since June 2019 it has become difficult for Americans to take a cruise to Cuba, so you ought to be careful before planning your trip to Cuba.
  • Cuba is a relatively safe country, apart from some occasional thefts, crime rates are quite low. But to be on the safe side always count your money every now and then to check that you have not been a victim of some theft or scam.
  • It is always good to enjoy the moment, but in Cuba, there are some internet connectivity issues that will force you to finally leave social media and be a hundred percent present.
  • In Cuba, you can also live in a beautiful colonial home because locals tend to rent their houses to foreign tourists. So if you search extensively you might find a good colonial house available for rent.

Coast Guard Suspends Search For Man Who 'Jumped Off' Cruise Ship In Front Of Family

O n April 1, a 20-year-old man set sail from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, alongside his father and brother aboard the famous Royal Caribbean.

The four day cruise was just coming to an end when an incident took place involving the man and his father, who allegedly engaged in a shouting match that resulted in the young man throwing himself overboard. The family was left horrified after the harrowing incident, which took place on Thursday, per the Daily Mail .

The U.S. Coast Guard scrambled to save the distraught man who allegedly jumped due to a drunken argument with his father.

"His dad was fussing at him for being drunk, I guess," another passenger, Bryan Sims, claimed in a statement obtained by the Daily Mail . "When we got to them, he said to his dad, 'I'll fix this right now,' and he jumped out the window in front of us all."

The unidentified man reportedly jumped off the 11th deck of the Liberty of the Seas ship, sailing between Cuba and the Bahamas when the harrowing situation occurred.

Featuring 18 stories and over 3,000 people on-board, the luxury ship slammed into a halt as crew members frantically began searching for the missing passenger. Even fellow cruisers scanned the horizon and seas for any evidence of the passenger's survival.

"The early morning was definitely somber as so many people came out of their cabins to stare at the sea, hoping to be able to aid in finding the person,' fellow cruiser Amy Phelps Fouse stated.

Business Insider reported that it is extremely rare to fall off a cruise ship, with a study showing that only 10 out of 31 million passengers went overboard in 2023. Two of them survived.

Per the news outlet, a spokesperson for Cruise Lines International Association maintains that "the vast majority of cases are either reckless behavior or some form of intentional act," adding that "even one incident is too many."

As of April 9 — eight days after the incident — the Coast Guard officially concluded the search for the missing 20-year-old, without success.

Cruise safety tips include traveling with a buddy, avoiding excessive alcohol, and being aware of the ship's safety guidelines.

The United States Coast Guard is no longer searching for a 20-year-old man who jumped overboard on a Royal Caribbean cruise , the military branch reportedly said.

The Coast Guard began scouring the seas last Thursday, but has since called off its unsuccessful search for the unidentified passenger, the Daily Mail reported Tuesday.

The incident happened on the Liberty of the Seas luxury cruise ship of Royal Caribbean.

The vacation became a tragedy for one family when their loved ones helplessly saw the young man jump over the side of the deck, which some onlookers said appeared to be an impulsive leap.

The 18-story Royal Caribbean Liberty of the Seas was sailing between Cuba and the Bahamas’ Grand Inagua Island during the shocking moment.

One passenger previously told The Post the man was pretty drunk before jumping and appeared to be bickering with his father.

The Coast Guard has called off the search.

“As we were walking from the hot tub back to the elevators, his dad and brother were walking towards us. His dad was fussing at him for being drunk, I guess,” Bryan Sims said. “When we got to them, he said to his dad, ‘I’ll fix this right now.’ And he jumped out the window in front of us all.”

The federal branch quickly looked for the man starting last Thursday.

Royal Caribbean said last week its crew quickly began looking for the man along with the Coast Guard before the federal government took over the search.

The Post has sought comment from the Coast Guard.
