His second single “Friends,” an homage to the people who became chosen family, followed the release of “Yours” in 2020, an introspective look at the different roles he’s played throughout his life. Then there’s “Kiss The World Goodbye,” the third release from the forthcoming album. Soft piano gives way to an impressive vocal performance. Soul translates everywhere. Whether in front of a computer microphone, in the driver’s seat of a car, sitting up on a couch, presiding over a sold out venue, or in front of a television camera, Jamie Miller packs raw conviction into every performance. Often inches from tears, yet intensely confident, the Wales-born and Los Angeles-based singer, songwriter, and artist leaves everything on stage and on tape. Putting up nearly 20 million views across various platforms and earning praise of everyone from P!nk to Jennifer Hudson to Kelly Clarkson, he transfers this emotion into his upcoming debut on Atlantic Records in 2020.

“If you watch a video of me singing on Instagram by myself or see me in-person at a show, I always give it my all,” he affirms. “Every time I sing, it’s an opportunity to show people who I am, so I try to do 110%. I’m at peace knowing that.”

Growing up in the working-class city of Cardiff, Jamie publicly shied away from his natural talent. Worried about what his rugby and football player friends might think, he downplayed his passion and ambition. At the same time, he harbored an obsession for gospel, R&B, and soul fostered by mom and dad. His parents introduced him to Motown classics and the catalogues of Donny Hathaway and Michael Jackson at home — even though he often hid under the table in choir class, “so no one could see I was there from the outside,” he admits. After high school, Jamie took a job in a call center as he quietly honed his voice and listened to Bruno Mars, Sam Smith, and more.

“I knew I wanted to do music forever,” he goes on. “I never had a ‘Plan B.’ I come from a really small town. If you walk down the street, you’ll know everybody. It’s one of those places where you keep to yourself though. People have office jobs; they don’t become singers. I kept it a secret, because I was afraid of what everyone might think.”

Nevertheless, in 2017, at 18 years old, he mustered up the courage to leave home, temporarily move to London and appeared for the first time on broadcast TV in the UK, which led to an explosive online presence and viral displays of his incredible talent. Signing to Atlantic Records soon after, he relocated to Los Angeles and dove into writing and recording new music. A change of scenery, just the right amount of culture shock, and countless sessions shaped his signature soul-pop style.

“My sound crystallized when I moved to L.A.,” he admits. “When I was living in the UK, I was in my comfort zone. I knew my surroundings. I never really experienced anything I was afraid of. When I got here, I was in the studio every day. I had to write about my feelings. I didn’t know many people at the time, so I put everything into my music. I figured out what I wanted to do as an artist. I was such a shy and nervous kid. I’d put myself down. I didn’t really feel like I deserved the opportunity because of where I came from. L.A. can be a tough place, but it made me realize dreams do come true. It feels like home now.”

In the end, Jamie’s truth shines anywhere and everywhere as much as his voice does.

“I want everyone to know my music comes from a real place,” he leaves off. “It’s my life. I aim to give them three minutes of happiness. I came from a town where there wasn’t much opportunity, but I was willing to get out and move to the other side of the world. I’ve gotten strength from the journey. I hope to share it in the music.”

Jesse McCartney  brought his  New Stage  Tour to New York's Irving Plaza on Tuesday, May 17. The tour is in support of his latest album  New Stage,  which dropped in October of 2021. McCartney's New York stop featured a jam-packed setlist with his newest songs like "Discovering You" and his classic hits like "Leavin'." In a swoon-worthy moment, McCartney brought a fan onstage and serenaded her with one of his new songs "Party For Two." Fans have been patiently waiting for live performances from the heartthrob since he had to postpone the original 2021 dates, and McCartney definitely made it worth the wait.

When we’re ready, we open up at just the right time and share who we are with the world. Maintaining a career marked by platinum success, performances for two U.S. presidents, sold out shows worldwide, a quarter-of-a-billion streams, and dozens of film and television appearances, Jesse McCartney opens up more than ever on his 2021 fifth full-length album, New Stage. The New York-born and Los Angeles-based singer, songwriter, artist, and actor deconstructs his signature style with no-frills instrumentation, eloquent songcraft, and heightened lyrical vulnerability. In fact, the record represents the convergence of numerous personal and professional strides as well as natural artistic progression. “The album reflects on the journey through my late teens and twenties,” he explains. “In many ways, it was very therapeutic. I got to discuss some of my own insecurities, let my guard down, and be vulnerable—which was difficult for me in the past. For the first time, I felt okay being honest with myself and the audience. I was able to pull back the curtain and reveal pretty much everything. The album talks about what it’s like to have an all-consuming career and also what it’s like to be madly in love. It’s everything from the last few years of my life.” Over the past few years, he underwent a conscious evolution. After a bout of writer’s block, he stole away to Nashville for a songwriting camp. At the camp, he experimented with different genres such as country and more. The experimentation rekindled his passion for songwriting as he eased into the pocket without personal attachment and stepped outside of himself. Ultimately, he drew inspiration from the experience. Upon returning to Los Angeles, he started to assemble what would become New Stage, incorporating the lessons from the trip and adopting a fresh perspective. “I immediately got the bug and wanted to make an album,” he states. “The trip was really the catalyst. I didn’t have a blueprint, but it was very special. Country music is all about storytelling. That was what I fell in love with. I decided to apply this style of writing and storytelling to the pop world. I wanted to do a feel-good record with timeless and classic elements.” In order to do so, he anchored the sound with straightforward guitar, piano, organ, and percussion “with no tricks or gimmicks.” The music doubled as a conduit to transmit feelings at their purest. Take the first single “Yours.” Backed by solo acoustic guitar, the track gives way to candid confessions. His voice instantly enchants as he admits, “Yeah, I’ve been a singer, yeah I’ve been a smoker, yeah I’ve been the face in every bedroom on a poster…there’s another side of me no one ever gets to see...” “I wanted to come out of the gate with a song that’s reflective and hopeful,” he goes on. “It looks forward, yet it’s cognizant of what I’ve gone through and what it means to be an artist who also happens to be obsessed with his fiancé. It’s a wild ride to be in this relationship with somebody who I truly love and admire. Of all the things I’ve done in my 34 years, the most enjoyable moments are with her. I wanted to distill that down to three minutes in a true story.” Elsewhere, “Friends” sends a dedication to his close circle of buddies with a buoyant chant, “Thank God, I got my friends,” above a Latin-style beat. Over this swaggering swing, he tackles a new style of love song—just dedicated to his friends this time around. Then, there’s “Kiss The World Goodbye.” Soft piano gives way to an impressive vocal performance. Handclaps build towards a heavenly hook inspired by his future wife. Jesse McCartney: Entering a New Stage

Pop singer/songwriter and actor Jesse McCartney is based in Los Angeles, but today he’s calling from Delray Beach, Florida, where he will perform one of his first shows in front of a live audience since the COVID-19 pandemic began. “Honestly, it feels like recovery—it feels like the world is healing,” he says. “It’s just so nice to see everyone’s faces in the audience, and people cheering and singing. It’s a sense of normalcy that so many of us have been hoping for so long.”

There will be many more shows—McCartney has a full U.S. tour set for May through June 2022 to support the October release of  New Stage , his first studio album in seven years. He says this long delay wasn’t intentional, but rather because “[he] was having so much fun!” In between albums, he took on acting roles, including a significant turn in the television show  Fear the Walking Dead , as well as voice-over work for films such as  Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Road Chip  (2015). But, he says, “Obviously the biggest thing worth mentioning is the fact that I was in a serious relationship, and now we’re engaged, so I was just enjoying that part of my life.” 

All of this life experience eventually led McCartney back to music. “I realized there’s a lot of good material here, a lot of great stuff to talk about and share, and so that was when I decided to go in the studio and start writing again,” he says, “and out came this project, the  New Stage  album. So it’s been nice, and I’m really proud of it and think that it talks about some really important things. I’m just excited to hear everybody’s reaction.” 

This album is titled  New Stage  because McCartney feels like he’s entered the next major phase in his life. “I’m going to be this married guy—it’s like all the sudden I blinked, and I’m a grown-up, doing grown-up things and making grown-up decisions—it just feels like I’m in chapter two of my life at 34 years old, and I’m really happy about it,” he says. “Overall, I think that the message on this album is, I’m just so grateful for all that I’ve been given.” 

McCartney says he’s especially excited for people to hear the track “ Party for Two ,” which he wrote as an engagement gift for his fiancée, Katie Peterson. “It has a very classic tone and energy to it. It’s got kind of a bossa nova feel. I played it live now twice, and I can already see it connecting with the audience. It’s nice to see that,” he says. 

Besides his engagement, other topics that inspired McCartney for this new album included looking back on his first taste of fame as a teenager, travel, and his life in the Laurel Canyon area of Los Angeles. He keeps his songwriting ideas organized in a straightforward way: “I have endless amounts of voice notes on my iPhone, and as basic as it sounds, I use the Notes application,” he says. “I make a punch list of all the things that I definitely want to talk about for the project, and I try to write a few songs around these topics. Then I’ll sing a melody on the mic and try to write lyrics to that melody. It’s not reinventing the wheel, but it works for me.” 

For his lyrics, McCartney tries to focus on the moments in life that other pop performers may overlook. “I think there’s something very special and meaningful and vulnerable about having songs that could literally be about having dinner one night,” he says. “People connect with that, and I think they see a lot of themselves in music like that, especially now that the fans are getting older. Maybe they, too, are married or engaged and having kids. I feel like they’re sort of growing up with me and they get to share that.” 

McCartney first discovered the joy in sharing music when, at two and half years old, he sang “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star” for his parents, “and my mom and dad were like, ‘He’s singing it in perfect pitch!’ I could just hear songs and then sing them back in the very same key that they were performed.” 

From there, McCartney says, “I listened to a ton of musicians and singer/songwriters growing up, a lot of which were my parents’ favorites: James Taylor, Carole King, Stevie Wonder, Billy Joel, Michael Jackson, and Prince. Elvis Presley was the first album I ever pulled out of my parents’ album collection when I was like four years old, so I discovered [him] on my own. I thought, ‘This guy is really cool—I want to be like him.’” 

McCartney also remembers drawing significant inspiration from contemporary singer/songwriters: “I remember trying to emulate Craig David, who I idolized. And Daniel Bedingfield, who I think is one of the greatest pop vocalists. Those two gentlemen, for me, really started shaping my early sound.” 

McCartney’s parents were supportive of his budding creativity, and encouraged him to audition for a community theatre production of the musical  Oliver!  that was being put on in the town just north of New York City where they lived. “I was scared at first, but I saw the other kids getting up auditioning and in a confident way, [as a] precocious little seven-year-old, I thought, ‘I can do better than that.’” And he could: he got the lead role of Oliver. 

Performing in that musical theatre production was life-changing for McCartney. “That was this moment where I realized, ‘This is everything to me. This is so much fun! I feel so comfortable here.’ So I just kept chasing that feeling,” he says.  

Singing and performing may have come naturally to McCartney, but things got much more challenging when he started writing his own songs when he was thirteen years old. “I think it was called ‘Star-Crossed Lovers,’ or something ridiculous,” he says with a laugh, recalling his first songwriting attempt. “I had just seen Leonardo DiCaprio and Claire Danes in [the 1996 film]  Romeo + Juliet  and I remember thinking, ‘That’s so cool—I want to write a song about that.’ And it was like the worst song ever written. I remember that song being a teachable moment where it was like, ‘Okay, I’m going to have to practice this if I want people to hear my original songs.’” 

After confronting that dauntingly steep learning curve himself, McCartney has words of wisdom to offer other songwriters who may be facing the same obstacle: “I think if you are just starting out, my biggest piece of advice is just to finish a song when you’ve started it. See it through to the end. Don’t hang something up because halfway through you think it’s not good enough. Maybe it won’t be, but finishing is such a huge accomplishment, and it gives you the sense of, ‘I can do this.’ Some of my best work came after I’d finished a song that I didn’t think was good enough, and I went back and rewrote it or edited it, and then it became a huge song.” 

This determination to follow through on songwriting eventually resulted in significant success for McCartney. His 2004 debut album,  Beautiful Soul , which was recorded when he was still in his mid-teens, has achieved platinum sales status. Now several albums into his career with  New Stage , he’s continued to attain chart success for himself, as well as writing hit songs for others, such as co-writing (with OneRepublic’s Ryan Tedder) the multi-platinum single “ Bleeding Love ” (2007) for Leona Lewis. He’s also headlined his own tours, as well as opening for Backstreet Boys and New Kids on the Block. 

Even with all that success, McCartney admits feeling a bit intimidated when he was asked to perform for a U.S. President—a feat he has done twice: first for George W. Bush, and then for Barack Obama. “I don’t care who you are and how accomplished or seasoned of a performer you are, you still get nervous in those moments,” he says. “Performing for Obama, I was ready for it, but still, seeing him sitting three arm lengths away, it was pretty wild. But he was super cool. He was smiling and dancing and having a good time. Presidents love good music, too.” 

Even though he already has an accomplished career, McCartney says he intends to continue striving. “I just want to be able to look back and be fulfilled and know that I did everything I could and tried everything that I wanted to try, and have a life worth talking about later on in my older years,” he says, “and I really get so much joy out of making people happy and changing people’s mood, even for three and a half minutes. I know I’ll always be making music. I’ll never turn off the microphone. My favorite place to be is up on stage, so I don’t think I could ever give that up.”

Jessie McCartney is bringing his All’s Well tour to House of Blues Orlando this week.

The concert will begin at 8 p.m. on Thursday, April 18, at House of Blues Orlando located at 1490 E Buena Vista Drive. Doors open at 7 p.m.

McCartney is an actor, singer, and songwriter. He was a member of the boy band Dream Street and eventually branched out into a solo music career.

McCartney’s released his debut album, Beautiful Soul , in 2004. Leavin’, a single from his third album, Departure (2008), reached the top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and is his best-selling song to date.

In 2021, McCartney released his most recent album, New Stage . 

Additionally, McCartney has appeared on shows such as Law & Order: SVU, Summerland, and Greek. He is also known for voicing Theodore (Alvin and the Chipmunks) and JoJo McDodd (Horton Hears a Who).

OUR MINISTER

Dr. Joseph Lozovyy was born into a Christian family in Elektrostal, Moscow Region, and was raised in a pastor’s home. From the age of fifteen, he began actively participating in the music ministry of the Baptist Church in Mytishchi, where his father served as a pastor, and also played in the orchestra of the Central Moscow Baptist Church. From 1989, he participated in various evangelistic events in different cities of Moscow Region and beyond. From 1989 to 1992, as a member of the choir and orchestra “LOGOS,” he participated in evangelistic and charitable concerts, repeatedly performing on the stages of the Moscow State Conservatory, the Bolshoi Theatre, and other concert halls in Russia and abroad. In 1992, his family moved to the United States. In 2007, after completing a full course of spiritual and academic preparation, Joseph moved to Dallas, Texas, to engage in church ministry. In 2008, he founded the Russian Bible Church to preach to the Russian-speaking population living in Dallas, Texas.
